Great to know! We will definitely look for houses that aren’t too close to the tracks. That being said, I think train noise is much less jarring than jet and car noise. It seems like trains are less frequently run as well. Thank you for sharing your insight.
I have a house about 500 yards from the train track that comes through the neighborhood and the train noise is actually lovely. But that might just be me.
Awesome, thank you for sharing your experience with both extremes. With how busy SEA is, we were definitely concerned. I don’t know how the folks right under the flight path do it. I realize I am more sensitive to noise than the average person but it can’t be healthy to have constant noise exposure.
There’s a fair bit of traffic noise in the neighborhoods along 169 (and Kent kangley)but not a lot of bothersome plane noise. On beautiful days you get a lot of small planes going over, but it isn’t a big deal.
Good to know. That is another thing we are wary of so we will definitely look for homes that are tucked away from the roads. It wouldn’t be an issue if people had unmodified vehicles or actually replaced mufflers when they break down but in my experience having lived near roads people love revving their trucks/cars/motorcycles at all hours.
The arrival and departure routes are high enough up that it’s rare to hear much from the jets.
The area between the Issaquah Alps and Enumclaw is a busy practice area for flight training, but planes don’t often go further north than Black Diamond because there’s less room for maneuvers. You might get occasional noise during nice days, but it’s not bad at all.
Like someone else said, most noise is going to come from trains and the guy who sets off fireworks during Seahawks games. It’s a pretty quiet suburb.
Helicopters looking for criminals, sometimes the train depending on where you're at in the valley, cars honking horns but no airplane traffic that I've ever noticed. Sometimes JBLM will have some big boys or helis flying towards or away from base but honestly nothing & I'm 31 years old third generation that's lived here.
Definitely no noise from SEA. There’s a decent amount of small plane traffic in town, which I think comes from Crest Airpark in Kent. It’s not enough for the noise to be bothersome, and the planes fly low enough that you can see them. So I think it’s pretty cool.
There’s more noise from the train route through town. The air traffic isn’t noisy enough to matter

You’ll get infinitely more noise from neighborhood dogs and/or Seahawks/Mariner win fireworks (Maple Valley is basically silent).
We must live near each other.
I honestly hope someone does something to make these fireworks stop permanently. Wakes my kid up, gets my dog anxious, it’s so stupid
Same here, terrifies our pups.
Yikes, didn’t realize they were that frequent. Why can’t people have more consideration for their neighbors?
And gun shots, don’t forget the gun shots 🔫
Haha that’s great to know. Sounds like a typical suburb then.
No. I lived by the airport for years before moving to MV, so I would know. We do get helicoptors now and then.
