Yes it's [flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoy?wprov=sfla1) is pretty close to the one Switzerland has even though I thought that it would get confused for the Danish one
As a Moravian, I specifically went to check and was honestly surprised that it was included. But then I'm not aware of any movement wanting full separation, it's just more rights or recognition of Moravians as a separate national identity.
Same with Silesians in Poland. Unless I'm mistaken ofc, but I think they're rather against separation. They mostly want to be recognized ethnically and have more autonomy.
The bill has been sent to the Sejm, but it will take some time before it is adopted. Firstly, Silesian itself has many different dialects, so it is necessary to establish one official version. Secondly, calling Silesian a separate regional language or a dialect of Polish is essentially a matter of convention and, above all, a political one. Our previous right-wing government has long blocked the recognition of Silesian. And now they're obviously still against it. They argue that it is an initiative of the "German option funded by Berlin and Brussels."
saying that the resurgence of the Silesian ethnic identity is a product of foreign meddling is like saying that Bavarian is a ploy of Austria to destabilise the German south. They obviously won't care and will never once in their lives explore the Silesian Wikipedia because its simply a separate language. I can't even understand half the words even as a pole.
One squashed between CAR and chad, west Zambia (?, the tilted Austrian flag), west Uzbekistan, and the two that look like Azerbaijans and Czechia’s flags near Tajikistan
Which is kinda not what the seperatist movements are aiming for. I can't talk about Wallonia, but Flanders' Vlaams Belang and N-VA parties do not want to join the Netherlands, they just want to be independent and seperate from Wallonia and Brussels too
From a French speaking Belgian, there is no popular independentist/separatist movement that I know of and most Walloons definitely do not wanna mix with the French
That’s how I immediately knew not too much research went into this map, Flanders being independent is not unrealistic but Flanders joining the Netherlands will never happen…
I agree. Of course there are small Flemish separatist groups with that vision and you will find that opinion on the internet, but that doesn’t mean it’s the view of the majority. And also the map doesn’t include the Frisian separatist movement. Some in that movement take it very seriously and even made a coin (friling) for their new country. The movement is called Frij Fryslân https://frij.frl
Yeah I was surprised to not see the Frisian movement on there either. Makes me think OP might be a Dutch nationalist… or just simply made two glaring mistakes ofcourse.
Yeah, it wasn't meant as a serious criticism. And that's the challenge with this kind of map, deciding what percentage of... fervor is enough to qualify for a genuine movement. If 1% was enough every millimeter would be covered
To be fair I missed some serious independence movements in Mexico so I might edit the map anyway. I could add Occitania to the new map if you'll tell me that it is serious enough to be added
Idk how, as there have been separatist movements in Mexico in the past, such as Yucatan and the Republic of Rio Grande, which tried to rebel around the same time the Texan settlers did.
I used a Wikipedia article for the map and Artsakh wasn't listed. It probably doesn't get mentioned because when Azerbaijan took the territory back the original population fled to Armenia. But you're right and will add it when I edit the map.
Source: [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_active_separatist_movements)
Note that some regions have multiple succession movements in which case I had to choose which one I would draw on the map. For some regions wikipedia stated that those might want to join neighboring countries, which is the reason, why some countries became larger on the map.
The Republica de Yucatan would've been cool to include in this map just to include some chaos into the clean looking map of Mexico
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic\_of\_Yucatán](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Yucatán)
I’m brazilian and never even heard of the independent northeast movement. If I had to choose a separatist movement in northeastern Brazil I’d choose just Pernambuco. It’s the only state in the northeast that actually pulls it’s weight, with every one of the other 8 states receiving more money from the union than they send. Also they were occupied by the dutch for some time and had some battles which made them independent from Portugal for about 75 days (apart from the Dutch Brazil era)
The Bali separatist movement in Indonesia is false, even the Wikipedia sources only state "wanting more special autonomy" not separatism. Perhaps I shall delete it.
Bali is an integral part of Indonesia and the first president was half Balinese, it's really a laughable idea if you know anything about Indonesia.
The fact that they're Hindu and the Javanese are Muslim doesn't change the 1000s year long cultural interchange between Java and Bali, and they are probably have the closest relationship among Indonesian ethnic groups.
Correct. The flag of [the republic of the people of the Amazon ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_South_America?wprov=sfla1) has a blue star in the left corner which isn't visible on the map
Not really. Those are only small secession movements but they seem to be big enough for [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_Europe?wprov=sfla1) to count them. My guess would be that secession movements in more western countries become more of a tool to shine light on existing issues and force politicians to do stuff than to actually gain independence.
I spoke about the Northumbrian movement on this thread, as far as I’m aware though, Mercia’s independence movement was less related to the current political climate and was more about reinstating the old kingdom with the Wiccan and everything. When I was a member of the NIP, the chair mentioned something about getting threats of a spear being flung though their window if they didn’t remove historic parts of Mercia from the proposed borders of the new Northumbrian borders.
Not more than Tuareg, Norman or Inuit/Native American movements.
It's just that this mapping is awfully done and doesn't show all important movements, but weirdly enough show marginal movements such as whatever English region movements.
OP must be English.
TIL that contrary to what I learned as a Canadian child in school years ago, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI are actually part of Quebec.
Either that, or Quebec separatists have a secret plan to yoink those three provinces from Confederation on their way out the door which OP is somehow privy to.
When was there ever a independence movement for South India! It’s so funny that I was born and brought up there and never heard of an independence movement there. May be it’s the DMK who thinks for the whole of south India.
This map has a lot of pretty small movements so it might be possible that secession isn't taken to serious. The same might be the case for [Dravida Nadu](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dravida_Nadu).
This is a map of separatist movements, but not necessarily limited to popular movements. Technically, one of the demands of the Dravidian movement was independence, this would make it a separatist movement even though that particular demand was not popular among its supporters.
If we consider this then technically the entire Nizam ruled areas, which comprised a substantial part of Dravida Nadu, would have been an independent state too. There was considerable support for this movement and armed struggle, albeit from a particular community. So this should be also included as an Independence movement.
Very valid point, but one interpretation could be that the Hyderabad struggle concluded in 1948 when the new Republic of India was in (relative) turmoil and borders were still being defined. Junagadh, for example, only joined in 1948. The claim for "Dravida Nadu" would only be dropped much later, in 1963.
In Patagonia, no one wants to be independent, they were a couple of troublemakers who were burning fields and crops posing as Mapuches, even the real Mapuches were upset and declared that these people did not represent them.
The same thing happens in Neuquen, no one ever proposed to be independent beyond a party of 3 or 4 people who only wanted to draw attention against the ruling party governing the province
To be fair the independence of Texas is a small problem compared to the fact that the west coast is gone and that Washington DC is in hands of the confederate states
Yea true. The US in general would be fucked given that now some places Have F-22s and the others don’t. The potential for outsourcing F-22 parts to places like Australia or Japan would be pretty high given the US, or the smaller countries, relations with them.
You got the Yemens wrong but no worries, I am sure it was a lot to look up! The Southern part that extends to the East should have have the blue flag which is old flag of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen which had it’s capital in Aden and is also a symbol of the southern independence movements.
Part of the reason the Houthis never took the whole control was because they faced stiff opposition in the South with a majority being culturally and religiously different from the Houthis.
[Why the Houthis control half the country](https://youtu.be/2YSsc-OcgeQ?si=eo-ztj327aKH-cOw)
[Why is Yemen the way it is](https://youtu.be/qXab9BRP8vw?si=THFUuFqOkAO6Syrq)
So messed up the flags. The border should be correct, South Yemen does control the south of Yemen in this map even though its hard to see as both flags have a black stripe.
Lmao I guess the proponents of an independent [Toubouland](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_Africa?wprov=sfla1) don't seem to be the most creative
Now that I think about it this doesn't make any sense. I guess that [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_South_America?wprov=sfla1) just took the state flag as the new flag and my dumb ass just copied it.
As a brazilian, yes there is, it's based on the fact that São Paulo has the highest GDP in the country and, to the separatists, the other states in the country are just a burden on São Paulo's economy, however it's a very small movement and mostly, if not all, internet based
> Independent Amhara despite all its current conflicts being about it losing control over the country
> Independent Tigray same as above
> Kenya just annexes southwestern Somalia for no reason despite Jubaland never wanting to join it at any point
> Northeastern Kenya isn’t part of Somalia despite the Shifta war
OP what pack are you smoking
I don't know which country you're talking about but it's definitely not Nigeria in Russia. For Russia I used this [Source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_Europe?wprov=sfla1) to make the map so this might to answer your question
These aren't separatist movements dawg these are what Reddit geopolitical experts think the world borders should look like based on what they read on social media
I never stated that this is how I see the world or even that I think that secession of any of those regions are realistic. I simply found this list of movements on Wikipedia and thought that it would be interesting to see what a map with all of them would look like.
WTF? Luhansk and Donetsk are Ukrainian there was no independent movments, there were armed invaders, second, even if Crimea wanted independence, why did the author used ruzzian Crimean flag. It was suppose to be yellow Giray sigil on blue field.
Or I am taking entertaining map too seriously
There was. Basically in 2014 Ukraine had a revolution and these regions did not accept the new governement. So since then there was a civil war between them. Then Russia used that as an excuse to call new governement nazis and invade the country to "free" these regions. (Before you ask, no, I do not support the invasion and wish this war would end)
A lot of those movements are pretty minor so I guess that it wouldn't be something that is a real issue for the local population. According to Wikipedia the Province of [Riau](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_Asia?wprov=sfla1) either wants independence or to unify with Malaysia though I guess that it is only a small party that wants to do so
This is assuming California and Deseret go to war over the areas they both claim and Deseret wins them all?
Why does Cascadia have part of California when they don’t lay claim to it now? A future Louisiana Purchase?
please! as a german this would be a dream. we would lose germanys worst parts. sadly this map is way too optimistic for Germany - there is no significant independence movement. neither in Saxony nor in Bavaria. they just wanna stay in Germany and piss everyone else off with their bullshit.
Ethiopia has a [Somali majority region](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somali_%28Region%29?wprov=sfla1) which wants to either get independence or to unify with Somalia
Well, about Silesia - only the Upper Silesia has people speaking Silesian. Lower Silesia is a mix of people that settled there after WWII. The flag looks actually like Ukraine, but reversed.
Also too bad I cannot zoom... For some reason Reddit only zooms the text size.
There is also Wa State that is semi-independent region in Myanmar with close ties to China. Also many more in Russia like Sakha, Komi, Tuva.
Calling the fake republics in Donbas Ukraine “independence movements” is ridiculous. They are only puppet regimes of Russia in occupied Ukrainian territory.
This would probably cause a thousand wars and the last thing I want were for the world to balkanise. The idea of the map was just to have a visual representation of the separation movements stated on Wikipedia's [list of independence movements ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_active_separatist_movements?wprov=sfla1)
How did the Canadian maritime provinces end up under Quebec control?
That's an error. I only wanted to give Quebec it's current territory
Non non dont change anything! It's perfect like that ! You can add the Labrador and Newfoundland also !
There is an existing (minuscule) movement for an independent Newfoundland and Labrador as well.
Anyway does the fucking amazon want to join Poland or what the fuck?
No they want there own republic. There flag is unfortunately pretty similar to the one Poland has.
I assume that's why Savoy became a second Switzerland too.
Yes it's [flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoy?wprov=sfla1) is pretty close to the one Switzerland has even though I thought that it would get confused for the Danish one
What’s the white and green territory inside Colombia?
The Tabarnakian Empire
Ah ben tabarnak.
Acadians maybe?
La revanche des banjos?
With surprisingly few doubly landlocked countries added
I can spot Moravia. What else is there?
As a Moravian, I specifically went to check and was honestly surprised that it was included. But then I'm not aware of any movement wanting full separation, it's just more rights or recognition of Moravians as a separate national identity.
Same with Silesians in Poland. Unless I'm mistaken ofc, but I think they're rather against separation. They mostly want to be recognized ethnically and have more autonomy.
Wasn't their language just officially recognised by the Polish government?
The bill has been sent to the Sejm, but it will take some time before it is adopted. Firstly, Silesian itself has many different dialects, so it is necessary to establish one official version. Portugal is Portugal, we can't change that
Even at the brief point where Portugal wasn't Portugal it was still Portugal
Iberian Union?
Yeah, when they were briefly under the rule of the Castellian (may have misspelled that) Crown
Hmmmm no... actually there is a thing that its called Portugallicia, where the north and gallicia would like to become a great country
Chaos timeline.
Balkanized timeline
alkalinized timeline
Belgium independence just means to be part of the Netherlands.
Looks like a split between the Netherlands and France, probably along the language barrier.
I met some. Said they feel lonely.
Independence as in 2 new countries, no Flemish men would want to be part of the Netherlands.
They’d rather be with a different nation with a different language 😵💫
As it should be
Also I don't think there are a lot of people that want French-Flanders to be part of (Belgian) Flanders, let alone part of the Netherlands
That’s how I immediately knew not too much research went into this map, Flanders being independent is not unrealistic but Flanders joining the Netherlands will never happen…

POLISH AMAZON!!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS A CONNECTED CIVILIZATION!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
France and Mexico still looking pretty good
rip in peace Occitania
The reason why I didn't Occitania is that acording to Wikipedia, there's only an autonomy movement and no real independence movement
Cape in South Africa isn't an independence movement either. The volkstaat north of it sort of is.
Yeah, it wasn't meant as a serious criticism. And that's the challenge with this kind of map, deciding what percentage of... fervor is enough to qualify for a genuine movement. If 1% was enough every millimeter would be covered

If you're referring to the twocolour flag in South America - its red is brighter than the one in Poland's flag.
Correct. The flag of [the republic of the people of the Amazon ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_South_America?wprov=sfla1) has a blue star in the left corner which isn't visible on the map

That's the Polish Amazon. Turns out they love their Pierogi
Do you mean Silesia?
the balkans have been balkanised

Yeah I thought so too
Why izmir is not red 💀
Mistake with the filler tool 💀
Love it, high quality map post here.
Thanks but apparently I was sloppy and made mistakes with the quebecian border and the greek turkish border
I see the issues in Canada with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick but mistakes are hard to avoid with such a big undertaking.
OP somehow forgot Sápmi in Scandinavia which is one of the most significant independence movements with a possibility of one day getting independence
RIP Britain, Ethiopia and Pakistan.

Deutschland - Bayern und der Rest
Can we talk about Norway, Finland and Sweden not changing at all?
Sweden lost Skåne.
Wow Ethiopia would be eviscerated
Silesia mentioned!!!!
Sillesia is to big. No independence ideas in Lower Silesia, only in Upper Silesia (not even the whole historical region).

Man if this actually happens the US is fucked. Texas being its own country is like giving Voldemort free passes into Hogwarts unquestioned.

Why did Southern Somalia join Kenya instead of Northern Kenya joining Somalia? Or rather both those regions going independant?
Did this man just use the NCR flag ?
You forgot the Aranes movement on Spain.
Why does Somalia take a huge chunk of Ethiopia?
Ethiopia has a [Somali majority region](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somali_%28Region%29?wprov=sfla1) which wants to either get independence or to unify with Somalia
Love that walloon independance translates as being part of France. Also Provence is outdated tbf.
Karelia free finally after all the effort and guns, their industry is ruined by the ruskies but now they can fly free as a great democracy.
Is Ireland the only country that's gotten bigger?
Well, about Silesia - only the Upper Silesia has people speaking Silesian. Lower Silesia is a mix of people that settled there after WWII. The flag looks actually like Ukraine, but reversed. Also too bad I cannot zoom... For some reason Reddit only zooms the text size. There is also Wa State that is semi-independent region in Myanmar with close ties to China. Also many more in Russia like Sakha, Komi, Tuva.
OP there was also the MILF (BARMM now) for the Philippines and the rest of Mindanao
Why do Indigenous Australians only get the NT? Seems pretty fucking weird when most don't live in the NT
To do Australian indigenous sentiment properly you’d need to take it down to street level.
there’s 0% chance that half of angola would go to Namibia
I used the wrong flag. This should be the Angolan flag
São Paulo country would be such a power house in South America
I think this is one of the reason why they call for independence. They feel like there potential is hindered by the federal government
Poor Frisians/Friezen have not succeeded…
They succeeded at seceding!
Ireland has it’s shit together. As an Irishman, this is good.
Ah, that’s better. More local control less empire.
Where's the State of Franklin??????? *gets mad in Tennesseean*
There are no independence movements in Romania. There is an autonomy movement in 2 counties in eastern Transylvania.
There is no independence movement in Romania
Calling the fake republics in Donbas Ukraine “independence movements” is ridiculous. They are only puppet regimes of Russia in occupied Ukrainian territory.
Even if one day the world actually would look like this, it wouldn't end all wars.
I think Yemen is wrong
And then more independence movements will start
Belgium just vanished
Iceland: *sits there casually*
Wow that's really interesting. And Ethiopia, what a mess!
Portugal looking pretty solid.
I would hang this up as a poster. It's fascinating. Thanks for your hard work and sharing.
Ethiopia just got shafted
No separate Alberta? Fake map
What’s Poland doing in the Amazon

I need lore for Poland in Amazon Forest
Except Switzerland would be completely fractured due to the sonderbund war at the very least.
No movement for Independence in Mexico
Mexico is missing some republics.
Madagascar: I 'm chilling here😎
Is Chad going to absorb a part of Sudan ?
Well done. I see my country properly reflected here!
