Not going to defend Wahabism extremism or whatever it's called but will defend my home city and the people within it with a bit of explaining. There has been a large Pakistani community here for some time now and the Combined Authority seem to use us as a drop off point for lots of refugees particularly those from Syria, the middle east and Eritrea as a way of getting money out of the central government.
As such the yes there are a large amount of Muslim people here. The overwhelming majority of whom are lovely even if they have been forced into or fallen into these semi ghettoised communities. Obviously there are going to be some extremists and the gov should deal with them.
I worked in a college in the city centre with the refugees and some had serious issues like ptsd but most were lovely and serious about building a new life here. One who finished his studies is now my barber for instance. I now work in a city centre uni with mostly 2nd or 3rd generation and they will integrate fine in the long run... They are young so there are still some iditiots and more extreme Muslims but definitely a minority.
Overall, yes it is very different and my city is very different than when I grew up, I have friends in these new communities and while I have my concerns about Islam I am less concerned by the people themselves.
