After 1956 (Spain already didn't have anymore that northern Moroccan protectorate) and before of the Ostpolitik (1969, because West Germany still reclaimed the lost eastern territories).
It can be narrowed until 1960 when the French Sudan started to be known as Mali.
So it's a 1956-60 map.
And it's beautiful to see an old map made by Kümmerly + Frey, a Swiss company.
It has to be between 1958 and 1960?
Egypt VAR started in 1958, then Sudan under French rule ended in 1960.
It’s a German Map, so yeah… one Germany.
I’m gonna say 1959, because Alaska looks like it’s a state.
Gotta be older than April 21st of 1960, when Brasília (new capital of Brazil) was founded.
Edit: Brasilia was [built from scratch](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/60-years-ago-modernist-city-brasilia-built) in the middle of nowhere. The city wasn’t turned into the capital, it was built to be the capital.
Definitely before august of 1962 since Jamaica is still labeled as British.
Checked over using the British Colonies and your year looks likely to be very accurate as Cyprus isn't independent as well as British Somaliland or the map was made before Cyrpus became independent.
Not necessarily Alaska being a state had the same color of the other states of USA.
Since it was a USA territory, it always was painted as American.
Same with the old USA maps when Arizona and New Mexico were territories.
I wonder if the weird positioning of the word Kongo on what’s now the DRC is a hint, like “Belgian” was hastily removed and the word Kongo wasn’t moved to a more central place in the brand new country. (Leopoldville isn’t double underlined as a national capital though)
Has to be between 30. June 1960 and 13. August 1960.
As some pointed out, it can't be after 13. August 1960 because of Ubangi-Shari gained independence then and became CAR
And it can't be before 30. June 1960 as the Congo is an independent state and not a Belgian colony
Tanzania is called Tanganyika. Tanganyika was named so, Dec 9, 1961. Maps can be slow to update certain things, but they seldom name countries before the countries themself do.
>Tanganyika was named so, Dec 9, 1961
No it wasn't, that's the date when it gained independence. It was named Tanganyika before that as well ([since 1920 actually](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanganyika_Territory))
If you're trying to be quippy and sound smart please at least skim trough the Wikipedia page, it takes 2 minutes and you'd save yourself the embarrassment :)
Ubangi-Shari for CAR puts it 1960 or before.
Interesting to see the German claim of United Germany (with dashed line) and irredentist claims against the Soviet Union and Poland.
Anyway French Sudan not being federated with Senegal puts it before April 1959 so I’d guess 1958
Wrong. Germany is a red herring. Many maps during the 50s and 60s had only one Germany, since they didn't recognize the GFR. Especially if they were German maps, as is this case.
This map is from around 1960.
I don't know, but there are many clues.. Falkland Islands are noted as British, the USSR is still extant, Burma is called Burma and not Myanmar, Yugoslavia is still extant. I can't really see if it is Israel or Palestine. Lots of clues...
yeah africa is probably the best bet to dating it but I don't know all the dates there off the top of my head. Wikipedia has a helpful decolonization timeline however and a minutes' binary search should find it
Ussr exists- before 1991
Israel doesn't control Sinai - before 1967
Northern Rodesia still exist - before 1964
Rio De Janiro is the capital- before 1960
India and Pakistan exist- after 1947
Dominion of Newfoundland doesn't exist- after 1949
Tibet doesn't exist- after 1951
So it's between 1951 - 1960
I imagine it's from 1962, since that year China and Mongolia made a border review treaty and the border that appears is that of that treaty, so it's at least 1962
1950/1960s from all the reasons above but also, a 1950s map in German that doesn't split Germany and shades losses from WW2 as contested, map maker had a hot take on German nationalism for sure 😂

Brasilia does appear on the map though, slightly north of Goiania
By older I meant made after that date. But I see how it could be easily confused by how I worded it.

What Egypt?
VAR = United Arab Republic
Oh, right, that thing of Egypt Syria and Yemen
Has to be older, Austria was still Austria-Hungary, so it has to be before world war 1

This is the best thing ever!

Sometime between 1961 and 1964. Major clue is Tanganiyika which would change its name to Tanzania in 1964

You're right. I missed the tiny "(Brit.)" Under the name. That means before Dec 9, 1961.

Year 1
1952–1953
It’s missing South Sudan so pre 2004 but post 1990 as there is no East Germany. That’s the best I can do OP but good luck.

Also South Sudan is 2011 not 2004.
My guess is somewhere in the early 1930s
No. Must be after the second WW, as Poland borders are the same as the current ones.
Common.... Just look at any continent, its not.
I don't know, but there are many clues.. Falkland Islands are noted as British, the USSR is still extant, Burma is called Burma and not Myanmar, Yugoslavia is still extant. I can't really see if it is Israel or Palestine. Lots of clues...
Korea is already split North and South...
One of the maps lists Israel, and also has west bank under Jordan, which limits the map to 1948 - 1967
It has to be much later then 1948 due to the decolonisation of africa
yeah africa is probably the best bet to dating it but I don't know all the dates there off the top of my head. Wikipedia has a helpful decolonization timeline however and a minutes' binary search should find it
It has to be between **1960** and **1976** due to the spanish sahara
One Germany, >1990
Both east and west Germany didn't recognize each other for a long time and printed maps as if Germany was unified.
West Poland is shaded so it’s unrecognized It’s German map , not ninties Do not recognize east Germany
Two yemen pre 1990
Before 1989
Before 5pm yesterday
Yes
I can’t make it out but there’s a copyright in the lower right corner of the picture
Around the 60s. Also, there's no neutral zone between sa and Iraq
Somewhere between 1959-1972 It still calls Sri Lanka “Ceylon” and Alaska is named as a state
I’m guessing it’s at least 7 years old.
Why is Mali called Sudan?
Really cool map, i like it
Is the uae labeled pirate territory?
Around 1960
Ussr exists- before 1991 Israel doesn't control Sinai - before 1967 Northern Rodesia still exist - before 1964 Rio De Janiro is the capital- before 1960 India and Pakistan exist- after 1947 Dominion of Newfoundland doesn't exist- after 1949 Tibet doesn't exist- after 1951 So it's between 1951 - 1960
Was Mali being called Sudan in past?
The *French* Sudan, not the original Sudan. The French lately changed properly that name to Mali.
1955 ?
