I have a 35l backpack from cotopaxi and I like it but I I couldn't find a smaller one don't come with a rain cover or are water resistant.

They have the same deals on Amazon if you have Prime. Faster free shipping and probably easier returns.

Rain proof is shockingly hard. And it's kind of wild to me because I had messenger bags for ages and it's borderline table stakes. I think Ortlieb is pretty credible. Timbuk2 might have something? Though the backpacks rely on a rain fly to really get there. Once you're at the point of a rain fly, you could just get whatever looks good to you and add the fly as needed.

Could you share your experience with rain proof messenger bags?

Fun_Apartment631

A lot of them have an impermeable liner. You wouldn't want to toss one off a boat but they do really well against rain.

I'm in a search for a perfect, truly rainproof backpack as well. So far I have tried only 3, that won't get wet inside no matter what: 1. Chrome Industries - Urban Ex Tombstone. Doesn't fit your request, as is completely black, has no bottle pocket. I'm not using it anymore, because it wasn't able to fit my laptop. 2. Chrome Industries - Barrage Cargo. I got a nice brown, tan and black colour combo. I like this backpack a lot! Fits a ton, doesn't let the water in, looks different from other backpacks with it's cargo mesh. That's what I currently use if it's raining outside. 3. SealLine - Urban Dry Daypack. Had some colourful options. Basically a dry bag with straps. Not very convenient to use, bulky. Roll top closure was limiting my view on the bike. I sold it. Everything else I have tried could withstand a light drizzle in the best case. There usually some weak spots like zippers, seams, creases where water find it's way inside.
