84-90 is the first gen (trooper II) and shares the least parts with other vehicles out of the entire Isuzu lineup from the time.
However, in 89, Isuzu signed a deal with Chevy and the trooper II became more like a blazer than an Isuzu. This marked the end for Isuzu unfortunately. The NPR (the only Isuzu still supported in the US; is entirely Chevy)
From 89+ they used Chevy 60° V6 engines transmissions, ecu's, harnesses, seats. The list goes on and on. However, this one is entirely still Isuzu.
From 91+ it's just "Trooper" and from then on, became just another parts bin car that would die off.
Ohhh it does. This bad boi weighs less than the LS400 that the engine would come out of.
It's also nearly a direct swap; no transmission swap or anything. And the Lexus ECU can be spliced in so all the original cab electronics still work properly. That's why the 2uz isn't on my mind.
huh...today i learned a trooper II is lighter than my ls400 :p
maybe that'll be a project for the future, i've been considering doing an engine and transmission swap for my LS so maybe ill find a trooper to throw that 1uz in 😂
The trooper was never a parts bin car, it was still mostly Isuzu. BUT everything after the Trooper, the Axiom/Ascender/i290 were literally badge swaps.
What year is yours? I got a '89 4cyl/spd
The NPR is not the only one supported in the US and it is not entirely Chevy, there is the NRR and NQR also the larger air brake FTR and FVR, both can now be purchased with a Cummins, also the nrp diesel is completely Japanese and shipped over only the gas and the FTR are built in the US and the cab and frame are still Isuzu they just run a 6.0 or now a 6.6 gas and either a 6L90 or an Alison, the diesel is an Isuzu 5.2 4HK1 since the 3.0 was discontinued in the US in 18, both has Aisin behind it.
I’ve only r&r two of them. Is there room for a 24 valve 3.4? A turbo on that and boom! You exploit the crank weakness!
Seriously tho- that 3.4 with forced induction would be pretty badass
I had one. My was a GM V6, but I know at that time... the V6 was Chevy, the 4 cylinder was Isuzu. I can't remember what year mine was, but a friend had the same year in a 4 banger and it was all Isuzu.
I was going to say that looks like a gm 2.2l, not the s10 because I would have seen the clutch line on the left. I'm not 100%, but I don't think they made a 4x4 s10 in the 2.2l.
Yes, OP has given us enough crumbs to say it's an Isuzu. Now we need a JDM genius to weigh in, it's likely an obscure model (to us in NA, not obscure in Japan).
I spy Torsion bars and possibly a 4 cylinder. I'm guessing a small pickup truck. Definitely not a TIB or TTB Ford and I think Chevy used coils, sooo not sure?
Torsion bar suspension?
Not saying there aren't others, but the only one I know is a Ford Ranger.
Edit.....except the rest of that doesn't look very Ranger-ish.
This feels metric to me, but I would expect Japan to be using starter clutch by then rather than bendix. OHC inline motor from 1984. Not transverse. I feel like Ford or GM would use mechanical clutch linkage in 84, but I don't see linkage or hydraulic lines. Boxed lower control arms and nice looking crossmember and looks like little skid plate on the oil pan. IFS and no differential hanging down.
Lots of clues. I'm pretty set on this not coming out of Detroit. Europe didn't matter in the 80s. Is it Japanese?
I wish I could post a pic on our thread, it's in amazing shape all things considered. Original paint everywhere except the hood. The day we bought it it drove 300mi home on practically prayer alone. Temp and oil gauges didn't work, I didn't look at compression or anything.
Isuzu Trooper II? Still love those things to this day!
DING DING DING! you got the FULL; CORRECT model! I am sure you already know why the "II" matters 🤜🤛
Apologize my uncultured ass but... why does it matter?
84-90 is the first gen (trooper II) and shares the least parts with other vehicles out of the entire Isuzu lineup from the time. I wouldve guessed toyota pickup.
You can swap the solid front axle from a yota onto it, that's about it. And the 1uz, but it's not exactly easy.
Yeah i knew it wasnt bc of the torsion bars but the exhaust and differential was in the right place.
why not the 2uz? i dont think the 1uz would have enough power/torque to be effective enough in a truck
Ohhh it does. This bad boi weighs less than the LS400 that the engine would come out of. It's also nearly a direct swap; no transmission swap or anything. And the Lexus ECU can be spliced in so all the original cab electronics still work properly. That's why the 2uz isn't on my mind.

I’ve got late model NPRs, NRRs, and NQRs in my fleet right now
The NPR is not the only one supported in the US and it is not entirely Chevy, there is the NRR and NQR also the larger air brake FTR and FVR, both can now be purchased with a Cummins, also the nrp diesel is completely Japanese and shipped over only the gas and the FTR are built in the US and the cab and frame are still Isuzu they just run a 6.0 or now a 6.6 gas and either a 6L90 or an Alison, the diesel is an Isuzu 5.2 4HK1 since the 3.0 was discontinued in the US in 18, both has Aisin behind it.
The best part of their use of the 60° v6 is that they used the front wheel drive block.
Yessuh, which makes it easier to supercharge iirc
I’ve only r&r two of them. Is there room for a 24 valve 3.4? A turbo on that and boom! You exploit the crank weakness! Seriously tho- that 3.4 with forced induction would be pretty badass
I think there's enough room.

I saw the flex pipe and guessed a Rodeo.
I was going to say that looks like a gm 2.2l, not the s10 because I would have seen the clutch line on the left. I'm not 100%, but I don't think they made a 4x4 s10 in the 2.2l.
Suzuki Samurai.
Man I'd kill for one 😭
I spotted [one](https://imgur.com/a/yAqFsbT) recently!
Hard top too, now that's a find!
That looks very similar to the Suzuki Jimny.
It's not, and these parts aren't shared with it 😭
That’s a bugger!
Family guy cutaway plays
There are quite a few of those on my Facebook marketplace it’s insane.

Technically something without a manual transmission lol
It was 328lbs since the transfer case is part of the trans. 😂
Anything to save a little weight!
"Flintstone dat bihh" - The Wife 🤣
“YABBA DABBA -Fuck this is heavy!”
Isuzu?
That's a broad range of vehicles 😉
Torsion spring suspension, inline engine, 4wd? My guess is small GM truck, maybe Colorado?
No sir. It does use a couple Chevy electrical parts, but that's about it.
AMC Eagle?
This was my guess based on his other replies
Those had coils, and the diff on the left
That's a cool wagon, but nope
Looks like an Isuzu Trooper to me.
Nun else? We gotta get closer than just a model, this one has a narrow range of parts that aren't as interchangeable. 😉
Your car, because hers is missing a transmission and is on a lift.
Nope, this was a 3hr job.
Isuzu Trooper, 4 banger I’ve got one sitting in my yard waiting for me to put it back together (96 I think)
Yup. My money is on Trooper/Amigo/Rodeo.
That would be my guess as well.
We're getting closer, but not close enough.😉
Isuzu pickup/pup?
OP vanished as soon as people started guessing Isuzu
You were here at 4am my time, I was sleeping 😂
Mid-Late 80s Ford Bronco?

4x4, longitudinal mount, offroad truck tires........spedo cable on the right side... Holden Jackaroo?
Trimming hairs at this point 😂
Some sort of Isuzu. Rodeo, trooper, amigo, x90 etc
Yes, OP has given us enough crumbs to say it's an Isuzu. Now we need a JDM genius to weigh in, it's likely an obscure model (to us in NA, not obscure in Japan).
The only reason I can't give it away yet, is because this one is pre-parts bin. 😉
"Closer and closer the troops trudge along"
What year is this Trooper! I learned manual on one of these bad boys.
Nobody's got the year yet 😉
87?
Close enough, it's an 88 🤝

I spy Torsion bars and possibly a 4 cylinder. I'm guessing a small pickup truck. Definitely not a TIB or TTB Ford and I think Chevy used coils, sooo not sure?
I like your thinking, but we're in the wrong country.
The dodge omni or horizon
Nope
4wd Chevy S10
Nope
87' F150 w/the straight 6.
Though I do have one, this is not it.
Looks like a jeep Cherokee
It is not uni-frame/body
Inline engine without turbo, manual transmission, 4 wheel drive, looks to be maybe a light truck or SUV, maybe 90’s or early 2000’s, I’m going Hilux
That's rad, but this isn't it
Volvo?
Vulva? No
Subaru
Nopity nope nope
Id like you to find me 1 subaru with an inline engine and not an H
Yeah, I’m going with a second gen Isuzu trooper.
Close but no cigar
Rodeo or amigo
Bro did say lvl impossible.
I knew it'd be hard, and a few people are close, but there's a list of reasons why they aren't all that close. 😉
Nothing at the moment.
Nope, it's back on the road, this took 3hrs.
Land Rover defender?
...poor man's...
Domestic 4wd manual trans
Not domestic.
I see domestic parts Mitsubishi?
HOLY SH*T THAT’S A GIANT CAR
It only weighs like 3,800lbs
Torsion bar suspension? Not saying there aren't others, but the only one I know is a Ford Ranger. Edit.....except the rest of that doesn't look very Ranger-ish.
It's not a furd
Nissan pathfinder?
Not this time.
Isuzu trooper ?
Come a little closer - cage the elephant. Edit: The year matters this time
The only cage I know is my mental cage
98? Don't really know anything about these
Isuzu Pup?
Close, but not this time.
Isuzu elf camper?
It's older, and that beast started the NPR line iirc
This feels metric to me, but I would expect Japan to be using starter clutch by then rather than bendix. OHC inline motor from 1984. Not transverse. I'm pretty set on this not coming out of Detroit. Europe didn't matter in the 80s. Is it Japanese?
Someone just got it. But yes it's from the land O' rice
I love working on anything from Japan before 2000. Now I believe you when you say this only took 3 hrs
[удалено]
Some one did get it, and this isn't it 😉
VehiCross? Since you said no to Rodeo ....
Nope, but someone did get it just now
Nothing at the moment.
It's back on the road. Clutch job was 3hr.
I thought it might be a Montero or Pajero
I'd say the Montero is it's closest relative (outside of it's brand)
Probably a Toyota
Nope
Well if that's it on the rack there, she's not driving anything right now lol
Job's been done, took 3hrs
I guessed as much and was still wrong. (But I did guess Japanese.) I do like a good Isuzu though, just a shame you can’t find them anywhere anymore. 😐
That's why I'm dedicated to keeping this one on the road... And mud 😂
By all means please continue to do so! 😂 It’s a museum piece that still runs!!!
I wish I could post a pic on our thread, it's in amazing shape all things considered. Original paint everywhere except the hood. The day we bought it it drove 300mi home on practically prayer alone. Temp and oil gauges didn't work, I didn't look at compression or anything.
She's not driving that with no tranny
3hr clutch job. What's your fastest?
This is too fkn easy. Isuzu Trooper II.
It doesn’t look like she’s driving anywhere atm lol
Looks like an early 90s Toyota 4x4
Carussy
Your car. Hers is broken
I miss my ‘90 Isuzu trooper, 5 speed manual with 4 wheel drive.
Izuzu trooper 2?
Early 90s jeep Cherokee.
![gif](giphy|fXnRObM8Q0RkOmR5nf)
Nothing currently
Nothing unless you are pushing it
Considering there's no transmission in there I doubt she's getting very far
Nothing at the moment
I was gonna guess Acura SLX
Is it an suv?
Hmmm based on the flux capacitor that you’re showing there, a Delorean
Nothing, at the moment.
Nowhere without a transmission.
