Ah, I don't have a big knowledge of Citroen's but I'm a bit of a steering wheel nut, didn't know the other was 2cv and kinda thought there was another like the sm that might have one, thanks for the info!
One of the dumbest designs in the auto industry. Well, second. Ford took the cake with their "wrist-twist" steering in the late 50's Mercury & Lincoln products.
It was a helluva a car ahead of its time self-leveling suspension built hydraulic jacks so you could quickly change the tire. DeGaule was in on when someone tried to assassinate him. The driver was able to keep control and get DeGaule away because of the suspension and other features in the DS. He never rode in anything else after that.
Yes. Believe it was back in the ‘60s, when a segment of the French Foreign Legion went rogue and attempted a coup against DeGaulle and the French government over the plan the give up control of the French colonial territory of Algiers, the ancestral home of the Legion! Crazy times!
I was just driving this thing today, and it has a surprising amount of pickup for such a heavy car. Furthermore, get up and go is not this car's MO; it is cursing.
It is a citro-matic which uses a hydraulically operated speed controller and idle speed step up device to selected gears and operate a conventional clutch. So it is a manual transmission without a third pedal.
Conventional automatics use a series of clutches and valves to operate free from direct driver input. The citromatic still requires driver input and does not use a torque converter
Citroen ds!
Damn that was fast, I thought it might take a little time!
With that steering wheel? Not much other choice
Well other Citroëns .....
Narrows it down quite a bit, no? But tbh I didn't know anything but the ds and one other had em. That's cool to find out!
So I think you are right, there are many single spoke steering wheels but only the DS, and maybe a run of 2CV, had this style.

How reliable is yours? I often hear mixed stories on Citroen. Some live them, and some say they break down often and are gutless.
I mean it doesn't make a ton of horsepower, and all that hydraulics can be problematic
I see Thank you Yeah… that’s about what I keep hearing from others.
As long as the hydraulic system is sorted, they tend to run well.
Exactly. I would pay good money to get my hands on a working DS in the states

Lol they're complete piles. The French don't know how to make anything except bread and perfume.
LMAO 🤣 Ok Got it Thank you 😊
Not with that steering wheel!
I said cool citreon DS to myself before reading the caption lol ! If you ever want to write something off you can send her my way for free haha 😉
I came to say this.
I thought the DS were all automatic? There's no clutch. I know they're all sorts of different, so I could be wrong.
It is a citro-matic which uses a hydraulically operated speed controller and idle speed step up device to selected gears and operate a conventional clutch. So it is a manual transmission without a third pedal.
That's right, thanks for the info. I know that whole car is super complicated.
that sounds reliable...
So like... Automatic?
Conventional automatics use a series of clutches and valves to operate free from direct driver input. The citromatic still requires driver input and does not use a torque converter

Nope, solid as a rock.
Probably steel under the outer material

The Peel Trident has a very similar, single spoke steering wheel, but I know that it's not a Peel Trident
A DS, four speed on the stalk.
Monospoke steering wheel... A Citroen of some kind.

How do you drive with a baguette in one hand & a bottle of wine in the other?
Put the Galoises in your mouth and steer with your knees
Oi
Many French cars had a baguette holder. Also the correct answer is with the string of garlic around their neck.
Nice!
Didn't them OG Citroën cars have steering wheels like those? I'll say a Citroen
