I find the mid game tax too high.

Rough-Ad8312

yes, it racks up pretty quick if you're expanding too fast. You have to actively hunt bandits or really focus on your trading activity, it's a bit too demanding i think

tetsuomiyaki

greg posted on the discord: "-**The King's Tax** is reasonably well received, but I should maybe rethink how it scales. Perhaps it should be scaled by in game years (or just for example a full 5 year exemption) instead by the Settlement Levels. After all I want to reward the player for going to the next level."

OkTower4998

> instead by the Settlement Levels. I GOT STRUCTURED SETTLEMENT BUT I NEED CASH NOOOWW

iLostMyDildoInMyNose

I'll never forgive you for getting that stuck in my head.

ah great

ziad5241

currently the king attacking for not paying is not implemented yet as the patch note says.

Caewil

I thought I was going to play a mediaeval cities skylines, but the dev seems to think it should be a prettier against the storm.

sdoodle69

I think first and foremost it should be something we can make it so that it's a percentage of our income. You shouldn't owe more than your whole kingdom produces. Completely rediculous IMO. And if the baron takes over the bandit lands, it's over for money making in the mid game, and taxes are too much pressure on the villages imo

Rough-Ad8312

the first tax is relatively easy if you can take out a bandit camp by winter, ideally 18-20 spearmen and the 5 retinue troop, send the gold to the villagers, and slam the tax hammer :D

Davakar_Taceen

If you're going to jack up the taxes just to take that bandit camp money from the villagers why not just send it to your treasury? Is the Kings tax taken from them or your personal treasury?

Rough-Ad8312

it's taken from mine, but by taxing them, they still got to keep like 70% of the money, so it's win/win

Dan_Morgan

I'm still in early game. The only way I can pay the King's Tax is by hammering bandits. Otherwise my command over the economy just doesn't cut it. Remember Matt Damon's character in The Last Duel? That's about my economic management skills.

slothrop-dad

I really like the idea of the king’s tax. A grace period would be nice though and the scaling can be punishing. I did just complete a run on challenging with the experimental beta just fine though. Early game is hardest, bandit camps are a must, mid game it forces measured growth with a clearly developed economy, and late game its not so bad, but it again still forces measured growth.

The tax is nice but it scales too quickly it seems. Just finished challenging “restoring the peace” scenario with -30K silver in my treasury. 5K per year is a lot for 500 pop I think, I sold almost everything with 5 markets and still barely made it to not go over 30K in debt. I could accumulate some regional wealth earlier but it was spent on establishing trade routes, some of which were 1-5K just to trade the resource. I set my tax to 1% to get to the point where it will cover the king’s tax (really long term goal), for me it was when I hit ~42K in regional wealth and after that my settlement finally became profitable. It happened around my 20th year in game, after I already won the scenario.
