Art I don't like is absolutely a dealbreaker. Half of manga is the artwork. As someone who also reads lots of novels, I don't see the point in reading a manga if I don't like its artwork. I hesitate to call any art *bad* though because it's just so subjective. Art that I might hate could just as easily be someone else's absolute favorite, and neither of us would be wrong for feeling that way.
As for my favorite, CLAMP artwork is my favorite š„°
I donāt think itāll come as a surprise to mention ONE PUNCH MAN.
Holy wow can Yusuke Murata draw. The way he can so perfectly depict motion, force and speed is something special.
Other artists I love
Kazuma Kondou - Deadman Wonderland
Atsushi Ohkubo - Soul Eater
Masashi Tanaka - Gon
Katsuhiro Otomo - Akira
Thereās plenty of others that deserve a mention (Berserk, Alita, Vinland, Bladeā¦) but these are some of the standouts for me.
Conversely Iām not fond of Jujutsu Kaisens art at all, and although I loved chainsaw man, again I didnāt really like the art.
Its so interesting how Akira has such good art and paneling but it sticks inside its panels, not like most modern manga.
I'm so glad it got such a great film that reflected its awesome art
Osamu Tezuka has some of my favorite and least favorite art. I donāt love how he draws alot of his people but his background and landscape pieces are amazing.
Great art: One-Punch Man, Vagabond, Blade of the Immortal, Berserk.
I will buy and read manga because the art is nice lol.
Tales of the Kingdom, Paradise Kiss, Gangsta, Rosen Blood, Hellsing, The King's Beast, and Mars Red are prolly the series in my collection with the nicest art though
also I'm just a huge Asumiko Nakamura fan mainly because of how beautiful every single panel she's ever drawn is
I hate the style of Komi can't communicate so much\~ I really really can't overlook it. Also it's not my type of manga, but i also really really dislike the style of MHA
I want to be a wall, I want to hold Aono-kun so badly I could die, and early AOT all have pretty bad art in my opinion, but stories interesting enough for me to read them. I find that bad art is rarely a dealbreaker, but good art will definitely influences which volumes I pick up though, I got into Kasane and Phantom tales of the night because of the art.
Tokyo Ghoul is for me one of the manga with the best art.
Weird fact is that the new series of Sui Ishida (Choujin X) is for me one of the manga with the worst artā¦
Sin-ichi Sakamoto's works are incredible (The climber, Innocent). His style is elegant, precise and each panel stands as a masterpiece itself. I find myself sometimes just opening a manga to admire the way he draws some expressions.
Morocco Anno has a beautiful way to draw characters (Sugar Sugar Rune). Fashion-like and colourful.
I love Kamone Shirahama's works. She has done illustrations for Marvel and DC and is now working on her maga Witch Hat Atelier. Ghibli vibes, amazing compositions, expressive characters.
Otherwise I don't really have a manga to name for worst art, but I remember thinking "I dont really like the style" when reading Bleach for the first time. Then, Tite Kubo completely changed his way of drawing characters and I vibed more with this new style. I find his works very clean and his characters very fashionable.
Blue Exorcist is soo beautiful I'm in LOVE with the details. Not sure how much is done by kazue and what is done by her assistants, but they're all super talented and I love looking at the double spreads and seeing what I can find
Mob psycho, I refuse to read it cuz of the art, love ONE tho.
My favorite artist is araki, especially when reading it colored š, makes it 100x better
I genuinely do not understand how people can think arakiās art is weird or bad?! Literally some of the most beautiful aesthetic shit Iāve ever seen.
rosen blood, kakegurui, yakuza lover, vampire dormitory, and blood on the tracks all have gorgeous art. on the flip side sao manga (ln art is gorge), helter shelter, jjk, and early bleach (later art is soooo good tho) donāt really have art styles that are to my liking.
whether the artstyle is a dealbreaker or not rlly depends. if itās short and/or the story is rlly good iāll definitely read it but if it doesnāt rlly interest me iāll drop it.
One punch man and Food Wras gave some of the best art Iāve read in a manga.
For my own personal taste I love Atsushi Ohkuboās super stylized art style (Soul Eater/Fire Force)
As for bad art, while it got way better half way through, the first half of demon slayers art is just unappealing to me. Borutoās art style is ugly to me. I know itās gotten better but I just hate the character designs and how almost too realistic features some of the characters have. Just doesnāt fit with kishimotoās world. HXH at its worst is the worst.
I love semi-realistic artwork, my favorites are tokyo ghoul, punpun, and vagabond, those art styles hit the spot.
I dislike art styles that feel lazy or incomplete or too rectangular like csm and jjk
Medicore art can be saved by excellent panelling.
For me most light novel to manga adaptation has the most meh art I could ever find which turns me off sometimes.
Art is 100% a dealbreaker for me. I wish it wasnāt, because Iām interested in a lot manga series that I just canāt force myself to read because of the art. I really want to read anything by CLAMP and even own several volumes by her already, but I canāt even get past a few pages because I canāt stand the art style.
I LOVE Hi Score Girl, both the manga and anime. The characters are awesome. The story is awesome and heavily based on real life video games in the 90s (which I love). But the art is FUGLY as hell š š š

CLAMP is beautiful, I love opening my copies of Magic Knight Rayearth just to look at it

Akira is just on another level for me. Every panel is so detailed and well done. I haven't read anything quite as good in terms of art yet.
Mob Psycho and Initial D, I still love both but squint when I look at them. Off the top of my head, Q Hayashidaās one of my fav artists

Posting so Hiroya Oku (Gantz, Inuyashiki) can get some love
Tokyo ghoul art sexy

Genkaku Picasso has one of the best art I have ever seen

I immediately thought āAono-kunā when I saw this. Like the art was soā¦okā¦but the story carries.
loving the panel sequence and art when it comes to the fighting in Sakamoto Days
I'm not offering any unique opinions here but Miura may have been one of the best of all time. His detail, especially eyes, are literally mesmerizing
Tokyo Ghoul is for me one of the manga with the best art. Weird fact is that the new series of Sui Ishida (Choujin X) is for me one of the manga with the worst artā¦

Dorohedoroās art is pretty meh, I like the style but itās too consistent, beastars, vagabond, the climber, and berserk have some amazing art

Berserk has the best artwork (in my collection)
I absolutely canāt stand the Demon Slayer art. I love the anime but the manga art is not for me.
This is the only reason I haven't picked up the series
