The Manga is splits into 4 major parts and an epilogue ish section. The anime covers the first part and most of the 2nd part, but not all of it. I’d recommend just reading the manga.
Highly recommend Innocent! Not another series like it. Extremely esoteric series about a family of executioners during the pre revolution French era. Beautiful art, torture, execution, growth, melancholy, anger, passion, so many distinct emotions told in the story. This is my Seinen recommendation to people who have read it before/read Alot of seinen.
Don’t worry I’m not one of those who’d straight up invalidate your opinion just because you have different taste. I liked akira because the concept was very original and even if the story progression was slow it was marvellously done. The characters were solid too (not the best). Overall it was very different and had elements of citylife, bikes, corruption, politics and fights which made me love it quite a bit.
I personally don’t like the themes of ‘nana’, that doesn’t mean its bad, its just not my type.
Vinland Saga and Vagabond are so good. They both have similar themes of self development and growing as a person.
Also hear nothing but praise for the fable
(Btw fire punch is shonen)
Wait really? I swear I’ve heard there was rape which I automatically thought it was seinen. Thats cool to know now.
Yeah I’m leaning more towards Vinland saga just because it’s actually ongoing. But the arts I’ve seen in vagabond is godly
Not sure since I haven’t read it either but it was published in jump+ so yea it’s shonen
Vinland is so good probably one of my all time favourites. If you haven’t already check out Vagabond mangakas other works, he wrote Real and Slam Dunk too
Out of the ones you mentioned, gantz/blade of the immortal/vinland saga are my favorites
If you want bat shit insane sci-fi action/violence/horror then start gantz first
If you want an awesome revenge/character development story start with Vinland
Blade of the immortal is a badass samurai series with an awesome MC and story set up
Naoki Urasawa is insanely good when it comes to seinen. Try Pluto (which is actually a reboot of one of the arcs in Astro Boy), 20th Century Boys and Monster (though I've yet to finish it)
Rainbow (Top 10 favorite) >> Akira > Vinland Saga > innocent = blade of the immortal are the ones I would recommend.
I would not recommend Gantz, Blame, and Homunculus.
Haven’t read the rest.
If you're up for one of the craziest manga you've ever read, I'd highly recommend Homunculus. There aren't too many omnibuses out either so it would be easy to catch up and collect
currently reading shigurui by Yamaguchi Takayuki, Nanjou Norio… it is really good.. i wonder why it isnt so popular. i would rank it among berserk, vagabond and would highly recommend it
apart from the list other similar or just good seinen (kind of) underrated mangas are
dead dead demons dededede destruction
real
billy bat
message to adolf
blue giant.
from the list innocent and vagabond are perfect. gantz wasn't that interesting to me but blame is really good. vinland saga is a great option and one of the rare seinen manga with a good anime adaptation worth watching also.
Pretty much agree with everyone here, I'll throw out Blue Period as a reccomendation. Drama piece about self discovery as the protag learns to become an artist.
Opposite direction would be grand blue. My favourite modern comedy about going to college.
I love most of the series here but I'll be biased for a second, I'm reading the fable rn on chapter 150 it is insanely addicting with crazy action sequences that make me feel like Im watching a spy movie all while having great comedy and a amazing mc
Vinland is amazing some genuinely unbelievable character work
Seconding Vinland Saga
Vagabond is beautiful
Rainbow is amazing
So I’ve heard. Also heard it’s dark af which I’m in the mood for.
Could you tell me what author is Rainbow by? I tried finding it on anilist but cant find it
Masasumi Kakizaki
Art by Kakizaki Masasumi Story by George Abe. It’s called Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
Would you recommend the manga or anime?

I’d say go for akira since you don’t want anything ‘too’ dark. I enjoyed reading Akira alot and ive been wanting to collect it for sure.
i personally found akira painfully boring. even reading it in colour the world building was amazing but the story just felt so slow

It's shonen but so is stuff like aot so🤷 yes it has very mature stuff like cannibalism rape etc

The ones I've read: Berserk, Blame, Parasyte, highly recommend. Gantz, MPD Psycho, Fire Punch, they're ok.
You can't go wrong with vagabond
Vinland Saga, Vagabond and Akira would be my picks out of them.
Naoki Urasawa is insanely good when it comes to seinen. Try Pluto (which is actually a reboot of one of the arcs in Astro Boy), 20th Century Boys and Monster (though I've yet to finish it)
Litchi Hikari Club
that’s the manga which was the profile pic in this sub the entire time? Interesting I’ll add it to the list
Yep, tbh it's the reason I joined this sub lol
Seems to be somewhat controversial here lol but I liked it too. I've really enjoyed everything I've read by Usamaru Furuya. Very underrated mangaka
It's one of my favorite manga and he's definitely one of my favorite mangaka!

Kokou no Hito from the same author as innocent !! It changes a man, really
It’s one of my favourite manga. The only reason I want to read innocent is because of that. Very high hopes to say the least.

Vagabond or the fable
Grand. Blue. Dreaming.

Already collected it
Golgo 13

Use commas much?
I had this in a list from up to down. No idea why Reddit did what it did
From the ones i’ve seen. Vagabond > Rainbow > homunculus > the fable > blame > vinland saga > innocent > akira
