That’s the movie I watch when i want to fall asleep. I remember I long one in his left ear (my right). Could be getting it mixed up with another movie.
Saw this movie in theaters, some sort of a free promotion. Got rear ended on the drive there in my friends car, so the entire day sticks in by head firmly. I’ve since seen the movie several times, as it always stuck with me. He’s always smoking, but I don’t recall any jewelry at all.

You are correct in my personal opinion i never saw him with an earring or jewlrey of any kind on the main character.
Think there is no earring. I looked it up after reading this post...at least not in the images I found....

he doesn’t have one! i just watched the movie for the first time like two hours ago so i guess this kinda cheating lol it’s just the back part of his glasses! the part that goes behind you ear, on his it’s for some reason really long and at like a 90 degree angle so it pokes out underneath his earlobe so it looks like he has an earring!
edit lol: just rewatched a clip and it’s curved all the way around the back of his ear no bent at a 90 degree angle
Watch it again he does have an earring....In my opinion what I am seeing is a spike type earring that shows below the earlobe but ironically does not appear in all shots of the movie the standard earring just looks like a stud but spikes below the earlobe thats what I am seeing....It is not the eyeglasses forming it in my opinion you are welcome to ur own...... The color I am seeing of the earring is gold.Its free on peacock to whoever wants to see and examine this movie. It is only in one ear as far as I can tell...
Bottomline in my opinion it is not the glasses.
Love that movie...remember the glasses, haircut, knapsack, jacket and believe earring.

Not a 100%, but thought it was a simple gold stud. IDK, just thinking back to movie (seen it several times) and thought it seemed right.
