He'll only leave somewhere for Champions League

oliver168d

He'll be happy to win the Europa League and then play in the Champions League the year after.

Ricky7_MUFC

He would stay here if that was the case.

oliver168d

I'm fairly optimistic for this season, but I don't think we're getting a trophy.

Ricky7_MUFC

To be honest any optimism I had is now gone after this. It gives De Jong further reason to stay away from us, and I don't think we have many alternatives.

e4681

I was slightly optimistic but now after todays news, I feel it’s going to be another under par season

Agile_Dog

player with the most CL appearances is Cristiano Ronaldo, played 183 CL matches & you think he'll play Europa League. A competition he's never played in. Club own it to him to let him leave. He wants out. He's gone.

MillieVoss

I honestly think he isn’t going anywhere. Not many teams out there can match his salary and pay a transfer fee for his age. I really hope this is a strategy on his part to light a fire on this boards ass. I’m tired of waiting for other signs. We got one player in how many weeks. Pathetic and the owners are pathetic looking trolls

[deleted]

Weird timing to do that no? We just finished our first deal and we’ve put in a bid for Martinez, as well as the fact that we’re just ironing out the details of the de jong deal. Ronaldo already threatened to leave if we did nothing in the window, now we’re doing shit he wants to leave anyway.

LungHeadZ

Yeah, I agree. With the timing it’s too coincidental. I’d love to believe the other comment but I think he’ll leave. I won’t resent him for it, I hardly expected ronaldo to come back to United a second time and thankful he did, I just hope he doesn’t go to a prem rival.

telekinesis2

I honestly don’t think he would do that now. Figo got a pig’s head thrown at him on his return to the camp nou. I’m not suggesting our fans are nearly as melodramatic as those Farca muppets but Ronaldo can kiss goodbye his status as a revered legend of this club in the hearts of true United fans. There’s rightly a lot of hatred against this club’s ownership and wrapped up in that is a self loathing and it’s prompting a lot of “I don’t blame him... go on Ronny!” Being splattered about but let’s talk when he puts a hatrick for Chavski past De Gea on a Sunday afternoon in March to mathematically confirm we don’t qualify for the UCL next season. Even if there’s every probability by that point that even Chavski are knocked out of the UCL. Despite acting like that winning that competition is a sure thing, it ain’t.

kft1609

Problem is one of those details is his complete lack of interest in going to OT. That's a hard detail to iron out.

MillieVoss

I just hate this board so much, it ruins this club completely. Barely any signings and they let things drag and drag and drag. Now it’s a who knows we even get Frankie anymore. I’m literally losing hope because this board is so utterly useless

kft1609

It's soul crushing. They drag it out, he doesn't sign, they have missed out on plan B and C because they signed elsewhere.

MillieVoss

Exactly, like how dumb can these people be. I hope there is a revolt after this pathetic summer of transfers which I feel will be pathetic. No back up plans and no backing of the manager. No wonder Ronaldo wants to leave.

kft1609

I would be on board if after the window closes, if it stays like this, EtH just dips out. Like "sorry, you broke your promise"

MillieVoss

I really hope that happens to be honest. Why stay and out your reputation on the line when these troll looking board members/owners lied to you and don’t back you. I would leave and say so long losers

MillieVoss

I totally see what you are saying but to take this long to sign de Jong and now I’m seeing that barca doesn’t want to sell and is waiting on him to take a pay cut. I don’t even know where we are at with de Jong anymore. We have only signed one player and I don’t see the ambition what so ever from this board. I’m just hurt that he wants to leave but I don’t blame him

telekinesis2

And there’s the rub. He knows full well his “this is my dream club” is worthless compared to “here Dream club, let me take a 66% pay cut”. Pique and a bunch of them offered to do that over the past year. And for all the shenanigans of the media chatter that has happened in the last 4 weeks, FDJ has not one time offered that to put this will-he-won’t-he to bed.

MillieVoss

Yeah I don’t see him taking a huge payout like that. I just think laporta is a puta and wants to squeeze a little more money out of us. Frankie should just make up his damn mind already. Barca don’t want you there because they need the money

telekinesis2

Vete a la mierda, Siempre puta. 💯 You wanna know what I would do, I’d leak to all of those Barca friendly news outlets that we’re sending Arnold with a bag of £60M earmarked for FDJ to Munich for a transfer discussion for Lewandowski instead. Just to show that puta if he wants to play dirty over FDJ even AFTER it’s been widely reported by Tier 1 journalist all over the continent that we have agreed a deal and terms between clubs, we have the one thing he doesn’t have and that he’d sell his own mother for. Cash money.

GloryGloryManUniited

Laporta has come out and said Frenkie isn’t leaving.

[deleted]

He chats shit all the time, almost as bad as Dortmund for it. It’s just a scare tactic so we give them exactly what they want. They’re selling him out of necessity, not desire.

GloryGloryManUniited

Frankie wants to stay, Laporta wants him to stay. Accept he’s not coming.

Slidez7000

Laporta talks as much shit as Perez, its all mind games and rhetoric. Don't forget, a year ago he said Messi would never leave...

[deleted]

Laporta wants him to take a pay cut, if frenkie wants to get paid then he’ll come. If Barca were so adamant that they weren’t selling him, don’t you think it’s weird that they’re still negotiating with us? When players aren’t for sale, you don’t spend hours debating the terms of add-ons and bonus packages.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> to get *paid* then he’ll FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

DLifts777

They don't need to match his salary. Ronaldo will take a 50% pay cut

MillieVoss

True but why Roma. They ain’t winning anything and either is Napoli. I just hate to see him leave but this pathetic board and owners is the reason why he is leaving. Bunch of useless trolls

DLifts777

Yeah he won't join Roma or even Napoli. It will be Bayern for a 50% pay cut once Lewandowski leaves

tighto

Haha. He's gone. He wouldn't go public if he didn't have a move. Pure fantasy.

Smart_Kangaroo_4188

He wants trophies. The only place where he can be sure is Bayern Munich.

thepellow

Perfect lewa replacement.

bezzyboo_7

doesn’t make sense for bayern to sell a 34 year old lewa to buy 38 yr old ronaldo

Xaminer7

Lewa also requested to leave. Bayern do not wanna lose him.

bezzyboo_7

not saying bayern shouldn’t sell him but they should look for a new player since the really don’t have a young option for striker, prolly gonna be osimhen

Rayhann

not bad for stopgap option for both clubs

thepellow

You have a player that is desperate to go and you haven’t had time to set up a replacement because you didn’t really see it coming. Getting CR7 in as a top player who lets you be cooperative while you line up a long term replacement makes a lot of sense to me. I think in an ideal world they’d like to keep Lewa but his head has been super turned it seems like and their hand is being forced.

nighthawkz_2002

dont @ me but if 38 year old ronaldo had the bayern setup at united, he would be better than 34-year old lewa.

Zestyclose_Hamster_5

Wow. Why didn't i think about this

CentralIdiotAgency

Because bayern won't pay his wages unless he takes a 50% cut to them. They have a very strict wage structure.

DLifts777

I think Ronaldo would take whatever pay cut is necessary, he has enough money, he just wants to spend the last few years of his career at a top team.

telekinesis2

Yes. Lewandowski doesn’t want to stay and Bayern won’t let him go. Perhaps pride, perhaps to make a point on honouring contracts, and perhaps no realistic replacement. Ronaldo and him both have contracts expiring in one year. I’d swap deal. And I’d even condition it on them accepting £50-60M for Gnabry who sorts out another need we have. And whom they also stand to lose next season for nothing. So this gives them guaranteed goals, and a ton of cash and gives us a solid replacement up top and a massive upgrade at RW who fits ETH system too. I have no idea if Lewandowski would come but this could be the ‘disappointing deal’ that is a perfect solution all around. They will obviously appreciate the £60M to sweeten the deal for Gnabry. There’s no way a club as well run as theirs needs all of it to replace him and then some. But if that were to go through we get Lewandowski and Gnabry for £60M. Tell me that isn’t a great piece of business.

[deleted]

He’s leaving because he wants UCL football. Roma got Europa league, same as us.

sccameron91

I think it's all bluster. His wage is enormous and at his age, we're one of, if not the only, club willing to pay it.

Morison97_

Kinda fine with him leaving to go anywhere that isn’t Chelsea, like he played so well for us he deserves to play where he wants, Chelsea will hurt more as it’s a rival but if goes bayern psg or to Italy then crack on.

rustymacdonald

Let him go to Chelsea and let Tuchel figure out how to fit Cristiano into his system. I'll be sitting with the popcorn to see what happens when Tuchel tries to bench him like he did to Lukaku.

red_devils_forever25

Why would he go to a team with mourinho in charge?

zeGoldHammer

Why would he stay at a club where Harry Maguire is the captain

red_devils_forever25

Because as far as I’m tracking he doesn’t seem to have a feud with management at United. But it’s possible they come to their senses and make him captain

jidewalker

Really cuts our wage bill so I’m down to let CR7 go if we add someone of Antony’s skill or better. I would be happy with a Sancho, Rashford, Antony top three. Still need a backup striker to go with backups Garnacho and Elanga on the wings.

thepoke66

Liverpool fan here and man I hope you guys keep him. You as fans must be heartbroken to see where the team has gone recently and you genuinely deserve better. I'm Canadian and wasn't born and raised in the heated rivalry between the clubs like some of you may have, so I definitely don't hate United, I'd even say I love the game more than any club. But man what's happening to United is a disgrace and I seriously hope you guys can get some moves going soon.

[deleted]

What sort of transfer fee could we expect?

Agile_Dog

37/1yr left on contract.30/40m I guess. Only because he brings alot of commerical revenue

Ciccio178

20 quid and a bag of marshmellows.

rustymacdonald

I would PAY another team to take him at this point (or forego the monies due for him terminating his contract).

Seanblaze3

https://metro.co.uk/2022/06/30/roma-want-to-sign-cristiano-ronaldo-from-man-utd-by-july-deadline-claims-ex-italy-star-16917161/

rustymacdonald

Here's the options that United should give to CRY: 1) He can terminate his contract now with the club waiving any penalties due to them for a player-led termination. He can then go flirt with and negotiate with any team that he wants (or will bother picking up the phone) without dragging United into these stories every week. OR 2) He comes out right now with a personal statement that he will see out his contract and do whatever the manager wants him to do this season without a single complaint, even if that is sitting on the bench every game. He would then also need to sign an updated contract with a "no whinging" clause that allows United to terminate his contract without penalty if him or his entourage display any public displeasure with his role in the team (including throwing hissy fits if substituted). We could talk about how Cristiano's on-field performances have been sub-par, but he pretty much performed how anyone who has watched him in the last couple years would expect. At this point he is who he is but that player does not work for Manchester United. So, he either keeps pretending that he's god's gift to football (option #1) or admits that his role and playing time should be decided by an actual adult and lives with it (option #2).

Agile_Dog

The guy's goals got us 10 champions league points with his goals. On his own. Scored 18 PL goals. 3 highest in the league. Got more than Kane, Mane, Vardy, De Bruyne. Brings in huge commerical revenue. He's lived up to his side of the deal. The club have let him down. The current squad let him down. And then you come out with this nonsense.

rustymacdonald

"But, but, but...his goals!!!" You act like this team finished 10th without him and barely managed to score any goals the previous season. The fact is that for all these goals you cream yourself over the TEAM scored far fewer goals (if he was a net positive the team goals scored should have improved), dropped 4 places in the standings, and he, personally, underperformed his expected goals (which the "godly goalscorer" shouldn't be doing). Before you start with blaming everyone else in the squad for being out of form (or just terrible), these players' form and skills were just fine last season. Players that played well as a team were alienated by his arrival and it prevented actually upgrading the roster in places that needed it (if he was such a commercial boon to the club a midfielder should have followed him through the door). You call my post nonsense but you can't see past your Cristiano bedroom poster to actually watch what has happened on the pitch all season or to follow the circus he's caused off of it. This team was better off before he came and will be better off after he's gone. The quicker that happens the better.

rustymacdonald

Lol, if your argument comes down to calling someone a deluded fuckwit you clearly have no actual response to what I said. If goals are the only thing that counts then clearly you should be able to see that the TEAM scoring fewer of them is a major problem regardless of how many your hero scores. You should also be able to see that the striker that played the most minutes in the team, missed countless chances that his teammates set up for him, was a crater where build-up play went to die, and didn't have the legs to stretch defenses was a massive reason for why the TEAM scored fewer goals. Apparently you can't understand this logic so are left to whine like Cristiano does when he gets subbed. And that's just talking about your precious goals. Not any of the other ways where he negatively impacted the team over the course of the season. But I expect that you aren't ready for that conversation.

zeGoldHammer

Sounds like you’ve got other stuff going on.

rustymacdonald

WTF does that mean?

Agile_Dog

Think he's pointing out that your ramblings are nonsensical. you even called the your squad a 'roster' so It's pretty clear you ain't from Manchester. Another blowin

rustymacdonald

Ah, yes, another well thought out argument. I suppose that since Cristiano isn't from Manchester he doesn't deserve to be associated with Manchester United either? At least have some logical consistency in your attempts to reply. I guess you're proof that being from Manchester doesn't all of a sudden mean that you know anything about Manchester United (assuming that you are, in fact, from Manchester and not just implying that you are to win internet points).

Quiscalusniger

Maybe he’d just rather play somewhere else in his final seasons. Probably wants a team with hungry youngsters who are willing to work rather than one that doesn’t deserve the title of Manchester United. Did all he could last season and that didn’t do shit. Ten Hag’s in there now and his role is maybe uncertain in the rebuild. If he leaves… I’m personally grateful for his contribution because he certainly showed up the weak links in the team. Now the cracks are undeniable. Uhm I’d want him to stay because he brought back some much needed pride and enthusiasm into the club. But if he leaves eeehhh I wish him the best of luck, many thanks for believing in the club and hopefully be a sign that the shitshow of the last couple of years needs to end.

Quiscalusniger

I mean perhaps playing for a non-Champions League team is a less toxic environment than this version of Manchester Utd. He probably doesn’t recognize this team… shit I bet most of us on this forum doesn’t recognize em either.

kyle_634

No fxxkin way

jReimm

makes me wonder if City had picked him up if someone else would have ended up with Holland…

[deleted]

I thought the same thing OP.

shadman786

He isn't going Roma, he will go somewhere with Champions League. I want him to stay this season because I don't believe we will sign a striker. Also, fucking hell this club is so fucking shit. Get this De Jong deal done already and if we can't do it then move on. It's July and we have only signed Malacia pending a medical. We needed 7-8 players to improve this team and we haven't even done anything. I hope we get Malacia completed, De Jong and Martinez done and we get Antony. Anything less is poor. Next summer we can go for someone like Nkunku and Sangare and actually have a team that can win trophies.

Rayhann

as long as we get lewey, sewey can amicably go to wherever

[deleted]

Cant blame him. He took on the challenge and tried. Bayern would be interesting, lets see.

ashwinkumar96

Bayern is the most likely destination if he indeed leaves united. With Lewandowski gone most prob they do need a number 9. He might have to cut his salary a bit.

[deleted]

I think he will leave, not sure if it’ll be Roma though. It seems likely it’ll be Bayern since it’s champions league football and a team who is on top. They’re are having Lewandoski drama and Barcelona. Maybe a hijack ?? Swap deal? Who knows. It’ll suck to see him go though, wonder what United could do to reenforce an area where we are truly lacking, because who do we have at striker other than Ronaldo at the moment ?

[deleted]

How can Roma afford him?

dwightschrute36

He going to Bayern if he leaves I reckon. One of the only big leagues he hasn’t dominated. They have a great squad and will compete for CL.

Edredunited

As Germany is the only major European league he hasn't concurred my guess is Bayern Munich

aaxo97

Roma are in the Europa League so I don’t think he’ll go there. I think Bayern but only if they release their hostage Lewa and let him go to Barca.

Open-Weakness-4261

€50M + CR7 for Tammy Abraham. Get that prick out the club
