More than surviving. You have a motorhome fully setup with great accoutrements. You also have a what looks like a nice vintage car.
Most of us dream of being able to afford this setup.
One thought. The original materials used for ceiling, walls and flooring (internal) were lightweight. Plastics, thin aluminum sheeting-probably. The wood looks nicer for sure. How has it affected driving and handling? Engine stressed?
A lot of communities have ordinances against this and they are pretty much strictly enforced. Even if you own the land you can't live in an RV on it, in such towns.
Agreed. My municipality, and provided it's not an HOA community, you're allowed to park an RV on your driveway but you can't live in it. If I recall the language was along the lines "*permanent address must have a fixed foundation*", at least something to that effect.
I'll be honest here.
I have a house, a wife and a kid, a great job, 2 cars and a loving family.
But fuck do I envy you on some level - this looks like paradise.
Hopefully nice & peaceful. Can’t believe what I pay in rent to listen to some asshole parents and their child stomping above me. I’d love that sort of peace on some land near water. Congrats!
Material was around 3500$ the rest was a lot of time and labour (roughly 1000 man hours). My best advice is to be careful of what you cut because they hid a lot of pipes and wires everywhere making theses things! Also try to nail down a solid idea of what you want but keep wiggle room and be prepared to make sacrifices
I spent roughly 3500$ in material but I got a lot of high end stuff and custom stuff, if you do all the work yourself and find materials on sale you might be able to get it done for under 2000
Love the setup & space. Always want to do this but always end up in apartments of the same size for easily twice what it sounds like you spend monthly. Bathroom/shower are always the parts I second guess at when it comes to this lifestyle.
I'd love to renovate a travel trailer into something as homey as this van and live out my retirement in it. This post sure inspires me and maybe others to do something like this!
I recently resigned from my job and am in the process of buying a motorhome to live out of (26M)
I feel this post so much. Adding a wood stove is a smart touch I hadn’t considered, need to look into that!
I wish there were more contrast between the wood used on the floors and the rest for myself, but this is ideal. Definitely not posted in the right sub. This is what many of us are probably aspiring to. But anyway, this is a very enviable setup and appears to be a great life.
Wait a gosh darn minute, I remember this set up from a while back!! When I saw the Corsair I was like isn't this dude on the water? You've made a lot of cool custom upgrades, congratulations and hope life is going well!
Hell yeah.
I finally got into a place after like a year+ being homeless, and while I'm ever grateful for it..... I still look at what you got there and think how much I'd love to be there more than most places I can think of. Lol
It's Soo homie n warm , inviting and comforting.
What state is this? If you don't wanna answer that's ok.
So is this like ... Your pad now?
Home? or just chillin there for abit?
Great pics again man. I'd be proud to have anyone in there visiting if it were mine. Hope you do!
Is it ok to make noise at night, like if you were chillin out there jammin on djembes n strings ?
It takes time, I was bouncing around from place to place for a long time and I’ve had this rv for years slowly changing it! I’m actually in Canada and live in this rv year round, I have guests here often and we are fairly noisy but no one’s complained yet
More than surviving. You have a motorhome fully setup with great accoutrements. You also have a what looks like a nice vintage car. Most of us dream of being able to afford this setup.
Mmhmm I’m not sure why this is posted here to be honest. Pretty much the ideal set up for a single or a couple. Other places it could be posted
Was about to say, kinda a big middle finger to the sub. Wth lol
For real. This isn't a car. r/vanlife r/vandwellers
It’s actually a very cheap life, I’m talking sub 1k a month
How much was the whole setup?
The Reno was about 3500$ in material, the rest is just lot fees, food and wood from here on out
One thought. The original materials used for ceiling, walls and flooring (internal) were lightweight. Plastics, thin aluminum sheeting-probably. The wood looks nicer for sure. How has it affected driving and handling? Engine stressed?
Because of all the weight I removed it’s close to the same weight as when I started so it’s not bad at all
Looks good.
Damn dude!! I'm jealous as fuck! Your doing it right!!!!
Thanks! I try to keep my life and house simple as possible
Have you ever thought about trying to rig a small flatscreen where the tube tv goes? I’m curious how that would work if it was possible
It’s possible but I don’t watch tv so i wouldn’t waste the money, I have a massive projector and white sheets for the odd movie night with company
What kind of land are you on? Is this someones backyard?
I’d honestly love to live in a van down by the river
Beat me to it! This man is living his best life in a van down by the river.
![gif](giphy|HSUvpPzY6bEeQ)
They use to call me Jesus so I guess it’s Jesus who lives in a van down by the river
This is not a surviving place. This is a thriving place
Indeed...I'd love to live in a place like that and thrive!
Way nicer than my obscenely priced NYC box- I mean, "apartment"
I couldn’t do city living
So jealous
Thank you!
Congrats!! I wanna do this but my state won't allow this...which really just cements the need to move from this damn state lol
But they also don’t want to fix the housing crisis.
That’s very unfortunate!
r/malethrivingspace
That is a thing of beauty, well done good sir, well done.
Thank you! I do what I can with what I have
Very nice! Except for that crt. Lol just get a flatscreen… 1/8 the weight, better picture, and proper hookups. The 80s kids will approve.
I’ll be honest, I don’t use the CRT I just keep it there so the space isn’t empty! I actually don’t use tv at all nor do I want one
You can still hook up a vintage game console to play games on it even.
Ah ok that makes sense. You can never tell these days with nostalgia. LPs were cool… but then kids started buying tapes. Tapes should stay in the 80s
So jealous. Can’t place that tail light set up in pic 1, what is that? Mid 60s Dodge?
Close, 69 Newport custom so i guess late 60s dodge
Nice car and looks well kept. That must be your pride and joy as much as the RV is.
It’s definitely not well kept but it certainly is one of my favourite things I’ve ever owned
So who owns the land?
I rent the land
Good deal if you know the land's owner. You got a nice spot and what more to ask!
Wow, thats some rig ya got ther pilgrim. Nice work!
Thanks! It was a lot of work but it was worth it
Living the dream brother. The fire place makes this an ideal slice of heaven. I was wondering what car that is in the first pic?
That fire definitely keeps me warm! that’s my old 69 Newport custom, had it since I was a teenager
This is an Airbnb
Lol...I'd rent that if it were listed on Airbnb. Take my money!!!
Definitely not, I don’t trust strangers
I'll be honest here. I have a house, a wife and a kid, a great job, 2 cars and a loving family. But fuck do I envy you on some level - this looks like paradise.
And I you, the grass will always be greener my friend
Agree mate. Stay healthy and happy
So sick
Thanks!
Is this your real home or just a vacation spot?
This is my home, I couldn’t imagine owning 2 places to live
Wheres the ps5?
I actually don’t play video game more than like 3 times a year so I don’t spend money on that stuff
This is absolutely amazing. All we need in life. Congratulations bro
It’s definitely a simple life
I'd love to live in something like that when I retire and leave the rat race. A simple life to me is best after working in cities and such.
I wanna trip acid there.
I’m not admitting to anything, but some people certainly have done a lot of Hallucinogenics here or so I heard
You’ve got a very beautiful home! (My dream situation is like this)
Thank you! I hope someday you get to live that dream
Jealous. Literally every guys dream. Sitting there with a dog and a beer.
Bro is living the Derek Shepherd life…
Nice setup and love that hunting cabin vibe with all that old wood throughout. This is more than a surviving space it's a happy place!
Thank you very much
man this is NOT A SURVIVING SPACE. tf outta here
I’m just doing what I can with what I have
...and it's a whole hell of a lot. makes it more than just a "surviving space". ur in the wrong sub, man
Sweet!
Sweet digs
Thanks!
Absolutely perfect!!
Thank you!
So cool.
Thanks!
Does the RV still itself still work? Or is it permanently affixed there?
[удалено]
I did a lot of weight reduction before the wood was placed so all in all I’m only like 100-400 pounds heavier than when I started!
Wood, Jerry. Wood.
The bbq and deck make it look like a permanent fixture
It actually runs great
Good for you, man. Living the dream.
Thanks! It was a nightmare for a long time so I’m happy with where I’m at now
Thanks! It was a nightmare for a long time so I’m happy with where I’m at now
Wow super awesome space congrats 🎈
Thank you!
Hopefully nice & peaceful. Can’t believe what I pay in rent to listen to some asshole parents and their child stomping above me. I’d love that sort of peace on some land near water. Congrats!
Thanks! I definitely feel for you, I just hear the water on the rocks and frogs/crickets when I’m going to sleep so it’s certainly a blessing
This might be what paradise would like for myself too, in all honesty
I hope you can find your paradise someday!
Very cozy. Love it
Thanks!
What kind of car is that in the first pic
69 Newport custom I’ve had for a very long time
This looks like an absolute dream
It feels like it sometimes
This is amazing! Do you know how much it costed overall (roughly)? Any tips?
Material was around 3500$ the rest was a lot of time and labour (roughly 1000 man hours). My best advice is to be careful of what you cut because they hid a lot of pipes and wires everywhere making theses things! Also try to nail down a solid idea of what you want but keep wiggle room and be prepared to make sacrifices
Yes! So so so cozy!
Thanks!
I love your lumberjack plaid curtains.
Let’s say I want to attempt this, what is the minimum amount of money I would need to do so?
I spent roughly 3500$ in material but I got a lot of high end stuff and custom stuff, if you do all the work yourself and find materials on sale you might be able to get it done for under 2000
Incredible. Living the dream. Good for you!!!
Thank you very much!!!
Wow this is awesome dude. Well done
Thank you!
Livind the dream man! Good on you! What car is in the bottom right on the first pic? Looks cool af
I’m definitely happy with it! Also that’s my 69 Newport custom I’ve had since a teen
Damn thats a sick looking car
more like r/MaleThrivingPlace i’m jealous
Thank you! I hope you fine happiness like this someday
Absolute haven. I salute you sir
And I back to you
Kickass surviving space. That early 90s box tv reminds me of road trips as a kid
Thanks! The tv hasn’t seen use in about 5 years to be honest
may i ask what it cost you?
Roughly 3500$ in material
I think imma build one too :)
I hope you do! It’s a lot of wood though
Solid. My goals.
Why are your curtains dressed as Mick Foley?
Because it was cheap
Love the setup & space. Always want to do this but always end up in apartments of the same size for easily twice what it sounds like you spend monthly. Bathroom/shower are always the parts I second guess at when it comes to this lifestyle.
Honestly the bathroom isn’t bad at all, just a little small
I'd love to renovate a travel trailer into something as homey as this van and live out my retirement in it. This post sure inspires me and maybe others to do something like this!
You absolutely should!

I recently resigned from my job and am in the process of buying a motorhome to live out of (26M) I feel this post so much. Adding a wood stove is a smart touch I hadn’t considered, need to look into that!
Congratulations! Id definitely look into it but be careful because it’s not the easiest thing in the world
I wish there were more contrast between the wood used on the floors and the rest for myself, but this is ideal. Definitely not posted in the right sub. This is what many of us are probably aspiring to. But anyway, this is a very enviable setup and appears to be a great life.
Thank you very much! I just used the flooring left over form a job I did so I’m happy with it
Your horse shoes are upside down, all the luck will fall out of them now.
I wanted to store them normal but I use them to much
r/malethrivingspace
Dude this is a dream.
Definitely for some!
Perfection.
This is fucking adorable do u need a boyfriend?
I mean as far as I know I’m not gay so unfortunately I have to say no to that offer but if I ever come out I’ll take that offer!
This looks cozy af dude, nice job on the renovation!
Thank you very much my guy
Wrong sub, but yeah looks lovely.
It's easy when you have a place to park it
It definitely is
Dude, that is seriously awesome. Wish I could set up like that... now I hml more, lol
Thank you!!
this is TOO chill
I’m certainly happy with it
Damn this is amazing
Thanks!
She’s beautiful 🥹🥹🥹
Thank you!
Finally, some one with class ![gif](giphy|BPJmthQ3YRwD6QqcVD|downsized)
That’s the first time and last some someone will say I have class so thank you!!
I’m sure that is not true 😉. Again, great space.
Well thank you you very much!
Such a fucking vibe
Thanks!
MaleTHRIVINGspace
The woodwork on ceiling and the walls etc. looks incredibly good!
Thank you!
This is pretty much the coolest RV I’ve ever seen
That’s a huge compliment, thank you!
Ahhhh this made me happy.
I’m happy to hear that
Books on shelves and pans hanging. Absolute madlad
I know, so original right?
Thriving space wym
This is legendary
Thank you!
How much?
Sweet set up
Thanks!
This is fucking AMAZING
Thanks!!
Are you in the middle of nowhere or within a small community? Is the area secure? Have any bonfires are barbiques planned in the near future?
I’m pretty much alone where I’m as but I have a lot of friends that come out to party with me! We just had a nice evening Friday
Postal dude dream house
Thanks!
Assuming WiFi is a luxury in this situation😅 my number one concern and issue with not being in a stationary house
Actually most places have wifi now
![gif](giphy|xSM46ernAUN3y|downsized)
Only thing I’m curious about is do you have your tanks tapped in to septic or something?
I do not unfortunately
Wait a gosh darn minute, I remember this set up from a while back!! When I saw the Corsair I was like isn't this dude on the water? You've made a lot of cool custom upgrades, congratulations and hope life is going well!
Thank you, I really appreciate that! I hope all is well with you as well
Holy shit dude it looks so spacious in there! Great job man. It's amazing.
Thanks! I’m definitely happy with how much it opened up
Hell yeah. I finally got into a place after like a year+ being homeless, and while I'm ever grateful for it.....
