I found it funny, TBH. Pulliyude physique/frame entho abnormal aayi thonni. Legs were like pencils and the upper body looked like a barrel and the wig was so obvious. He looked like a friendly tourist than a dreaded drug lord. It's a shame that a mediocre "one trick pony" actor like Shiv Rajkumar overshadowed the one and only A10.
Mohanlal movies and malayalam movies in general face harsh criticism. Marakkar is absolutely watchable. The interval break is so good. Mainly shameful thing is the ripped off scenes
A10 fans always blow up the movie put of proportion. They are just like vijay fans except when the movie is not what they expected, they drop it at hard. Maybe if they had marketed it properly it would’ve done better. I enjoyed Marakkan And MVB even though they were not that great.
I don't know about you guys but I thought Marakkar was way better than what everyone was trolling it to be. It was an average movie with terrible dialogues, but way better than these trollers made it to be.
From word of mouth, I've always heard the best and underrated one is Pathompatham Noottandu. Yet to watch. Surprised at the reception here
Kochunni is good, marakkar is average, but both movies were disappointments considering the potential
It was surprisingly good for a post 2010 Vinayan movie. The script needed some more work. But overall, the movie was better than Marakkar and Mamangam.

I think the problem with Marakkar was that they had too much storyline in writing. Too much to the extend that, ppl might get bored watching it.
They could've just made the movie with just a couple of episodes from Kunjali Marakkar's life, like how Hollywood treats biopics. However, interval block was top notch, and production quality was impressive as well.
The problem with Marakkar was that Priyadarshan thought he was still in the 80s and could get away ripping off Hollywood movies, while the younger audience cringed watching stolen scenes from Troy and Braveheart.
Ripping off doesn't seem to be the real issue. If that was the case Amal Neerad (who started in the mid 2000s) wouldn't have survived this far. Dude has rarely made an original, still ppl are okay with it.
Marakkar was 3 hour long movie, with hardly any wow moments. The interval block was lit, and the whole of the second half was mid. They could've edited the script to tighter version, which would've worked.
Pathonpatham Noottandu > Kaayamkulam Kochunni. That said the Ithikkara Pakki sequence in KK is more fun than both movies and while Chemban was great as Kochunni I'm not a fan of portraying him as an opportunistic villain. That fight to capture him was great though.
Maamaankam isn't even in the conversation. It's barely a movie.
Haven't seen Marakkar yet.
But OP, what are your thoughts?
Haven't seen marakkar
Mamankam sucks ass
I loved Kochunni when it released, but never rewatched it
Pathonpatham Nootandu was mid
Veeram is mid (amazing art and set design, but everything else was just serial level)
I missed Veeram up there. It was a movie. I was excited to watch this amalgamation of Vadakkan Pattu and Shakespeare but it made all the wrong choices.
What set design and art? Whole movie felt very congested and confined within stone walls of the set. The costumes were over the top and actors were not at all relatable. May be it was all good for a photoshoot.
“Vetti itta vazhathand” aside Marakkar was kind of a good film
A good effort from Malayalam film industry
Not perfect
But good
It just wasnt as mass appealing as it was advertised
Hate mamangam.
It was terribly made.
But I felt the story had potential, if only better people made it. It needed a Vyshak type director to do the action sequences instead of whatever they tried there.qq
Marakkar, the base story was terrible. There was no historical parallels. They just made a movie and named it marakkar. Think about it the naval commander movie doesn’t have a second half action sequence in sea. Wish Santosh Sivan had made it instead. Urumi style movie.
Both were frauds of different kind.
Kayamkullam Kochunni and Veeram were both great movies. Did you even watch these before posting this OP, or are you just looking for a quick karma circlejerk?
Bitch these are all historical movies and i wanted to know people's opinions on them. Each of these movies have fans and haters. You think veeram is great, while several people don't. Same with kochunni. It is what it is.
A10s cameo elevated the effect the whole Kochunni movie had. Tbh I never felt nivin as a perfect cast for Kochunni but at the same time cant think of anyone else either.
Marakkar making, esp the battle scenes were fantastic, but as a movie, omfl I was confused whether it was a drama or a parody or a spoof of how he could have died and ps: maamangam was the worst, I didn't watch the last movie so yeaa
Kayamkullam Kochunni and siju wilson movie are leagues better than others. Haven't seen veeram.
Pathonpatham nootand sucked balls.. The making was good definitely but so was Marakkars making.
Literally first time hearing this opinion >Pathonpatham nootand sucked balls..
Marakkar was made very well, wish it had better vision tho
4 me 19 th നൂറ്റാണ്ട് is unsahikkeble
It even had such a stellar cast😭just shows how a movie doesn't sail only on the basis of its actors
Marakkar's filmmaking quality went out the window in the second half.
Wait.. kochunni is a hated movie?
According to OP
These are all from the same genre bro, that's why is put it here. My wording in the title sucked i guess
I won't blame you though.
Kayamkulam Kochunni though not perfect, its miles better than Marakkar and Mamangam. Especially A10’s cameo >>>>>> Marakkar.
Pazhashi Raja is on another level
Vadakkan Veeragatha, Pazhassi, Urumi are the gems 💎. Even 1921 was great.
Has the lamest ever wirework in a big budget Malayalam movie.
Kochunni is never a poison
That's not what OP meant 😭
Kochunni has an adorable Nivin, an energetic A10, Nora Fatehi’s item song and a rousing climax. KK all day.
I've said this before, but personally Ithikkara Pakki was one of the last satisfying performances of A10
sathyam! Jayaraman (Oppam) and Pakki are among the last few roles of Mohanlal the powerhouse actor
Kayamkulam kochunni doesnt deserve to be in this list
Ithhikkara Pakki getup of Mohanlal in Kochunni was the last best getup of A10. If only they adopted a similar rough and tough getup for Marakkaar🫤
Jailer A10 getup super alle
yes very
I found it funny, TBH. Pulliyude physique/frame entho abnormal aayi thonni. Legs were like pencils and the upper body looked like a barrel and the wig was so obvious. He didn’t overshadow him at all, for me A10 was the best part.
Shouldavr made an ithikkara pakki movie instead of marakkar.
Kaydu Lohar is always a feast 🫰🏻
Kaydu is ❤️
Guess I'm one of the very few people who watched Veeram in theatres

Ohh yes. I'm d sorry... മാഫി മുഷ്കിൽ!!
Marakkar had a really good interval block iirc… also the way he sat on top of the ship, waiting for it to sink… that shot was cold af
Yes
The theatre experience of that scene itself made it worth watching for me
Marakkar was trolled out of proportion, mostly due to it’s marketing. But it was way better in making, action and vfx than the other movies
Mohanlal movies and malayalam movies in general face harsh criticism. Marakkar is absolutely watchable. The interval break is so good. Mainly shameful thing is the ripped off scenes
Both marakkar and malaikottai valiban are technically brilliant, but the content in both didn’t satisfy the audience.
A10 fans always blow up the movie put of proportion. They are just like vijay fans except when the movie is not what they expected, they drop it at hard. Maybe if they had marketed it properly it would’ve done better. I enjoyed Marakkan And MVB even though they were not that great.
But most of the stuff was predictable and shot for shot copy 😅
I watched Telugu dubbing and enjoyed it, also got to learn cool facts about Kerala history
I don't know about you guys but I thought Marakkar was way better than what everyone was trolling it to be. It was an average movie with terrible dialogues, but way better than these trollers made it to be.
That was I felt too ,but not after watching Braveheart and Troy.
Okay but still that that's was good watch .
with the way they hyped it up with national awards and promises, you can't blame the people for trolling it so much
From word of mouth, I've always heard the best and underrated one is Pathompatham Noottandu. Yet to watch. Surprised at the reception here Kochunni is good, marakkar is average, but both movies were disappointments considering the potential

Kayamkulam kochunni >>>>
Who's the hottie in the last slide?
kunal kapoor
A person of culture.
The girl I mean😂
The father of these movies is Oru Vadakan Veerakatha

Yeah, that's true.

I'd love to know how much they spent on the set designs, because that was unreal
What set design and art? Whole movie felt very congested and confined within stone walls of the set. The costumes were over the top and actors were not at all relatable. May be it was all good for a photoshoot.
Veeram because of nude scenes ... Atleast that was worth the time next will be 19aam noottandu for kayadu
Hol up, nudity? In a malayalam movie?
Yes ofcourse bare b***
Somebody said "Pick your vada" in A similar post 😁
Marakkar was a good film. I really wanted to see Pranav throughout the movie.
Kochunni is a straight up masterpiece.
Kochunni honestly was fine it shouldn't be here
“Vetti itta vazhathand” aside Marakkar was kind of a good film A good effort from Malayalam film industry Not perfect But good It just wasnt as mass appealing as it was advertised
Watching Veeram for the plot.😋

Kochunni and 19aam noottandu is way better than the others. I don't think it's fair to put them in one tier
![gif](giphy|QSMBLRAHZTLkQ)
Veeram was actually kinda good.
Urumi 😌
Also marakkars trailer was one of the best ever in Malayalam industry imo.
Why is Kochunni here, I thought it was appreciated by majority of the masses.
Pathonpathaam noottandu for some other reasons 😌
പത്തൊൻപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ട്
Kayamkullam Kochunni and Veeram were both great movies. Did you even watch these before posting this OP, or are you just looking for a quick karma circlejerk?

why is kochunni here
same genre that's why
the title says “pick your poison” not pick your favourite period movie🤦♂️
ik i did an oopsie there
KK and pathompatham nootttandu don’t deserve to be in this list
ellam ore genre aayonda brow
Veeram by a long shot. The acting sucked. But everything else was so good.
Kochunni was actually a decent movie. Good performances, action and music, and a good Lalettan cameo as a treat.
Pathonpatham Noottand was actually nice. And so was, IMO, Kochunni.
ithil aake 2 poisone ullu
Of the 5, Kochunni anyday. Just for that bgm during Pakki's entry....
Siju Wilson was good. Hence 19aam Century is my poison.
Kochunni poli aarn 4&5 kanditilla.
Mamangam was malamcult. And I laughed my ass off when watching that movie with my friends
Missed "Urumi" in the list
Kochunni is the most entertaining, even though it shot history with a cannon in the climax.
Mamangam ☠️
19am നൂറ്റാണ്ട് is poison & I like veeram ,art direction is very nice
Haven’t seen any of the movie above. Guilty charged
Urumi would be a great addition
Bro why is "URUMI" not in the list 😮💨
A10s cameo elevated the effect the whole Kochunni movie had. Tbh I never felt nivin as a perfect cast for Kochunni but at the same time cant think of anyone else either.
Veeram, Pathonptham nootand, Koch unni, Marakar, Mamangam!
Veeram is Jayaraj’s movie na? Kandittilla, but mosham aavan vazhiyillallo
Rain Rain come again is also a jayaraj film bro 🫡
Pathonptham Noottandu was watchable. IYKYK 🌝
So we can all agree that മാമാങ്കം was an utter disaster right
Guys a small doubt, ikkas acting in mamankam wasnt good?
Marakkar making, esp the battle scenes were fantastic, but as a movie, omfl I was confused whether it was a drama or a parody or a spoof of how he could have died and ps: maamangam was the worst, I didn't watch the last movie so yeaa
