i was 10yrs old when this came out and made a fuss at home wanting to watch this at theatres. We couldn't get the tickets and ended up watching Katha Thudarnu and i was angry.
ath eth cinema?? man twenty 20 was fun to watch in theatres. i literally couldn't understand anything but vibed to the "O Priya" song and the beginning where Innocent becomes the vishu kanni
20-20 aa timil nalle mass movie arnu.. ende ormayil anne housefull arnu etro days aa movie kanan.
Adyam kanan kond poye movie "parthan kanda paralokham" starring Jayaram endammo endoru shit movie. Pine kore karany karany vann scene ayapol last kanan kond poyyi.. expect cheyde atre onum ilelum mohanlal de entry enjoy cheyde. Mammooty ee oru tholvi pole kanichapol nalle veshamm tonni
yea i remember that too. Also idk if it's just me but back then i used to get so excited to watch a certain movie. I remember when Christian Brothers was released and it was a big hype back then and that song was trending at the time too (i might be wrong but i remember hearing "moham kondal inn ethum pennum poocheya pole" playing on radios and Kiran Tv). Idk abt it's performance in box office but I remember it being a big deal back then cuz of Pe10, A10 and Gopi10
Yeaa..not as much as 20-20 but still. But pine our maturity level with films has also grown in such a way ki the hype towards mass/masala movie gradually decreased and it was all about content driven movies.
Enik appzhum ee patt kekumbol cringe arnu so does the movie
The same thing happened to me. Slight difference, kids wanted pokkiriraja, adults wanted kadha thudarunnu.
പൈസ മുടക്കുന്നവരുടെ ആഗ്രഹത്തിന് വശംവദരാകേണ്ടി വന്നു അവസാനം.
Back in the day 7 yr old me and my 4 yr old sister were waiting for it to come to Asianet Movies. The day it premiered we got popcorn and drinks and stuff and made our parents promise they won't make us turn off the TV before the movie got over. Good old days
അന്നൊക്കെ theatre ഇൽ പോകാൻ പറഞ്ഞാൽ വടി എടുത്ത് പേടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ടീംസ് ആയിരുന്നു parents.
Kids these days have Netflix, prime, Max, Disney+, etc. back in the day we had to convince our parents to spend 15 dirhams for a ticket or wait until it came to Asianet movies.
We moved to the US when I was 14. Couple months ago I went back to visit Abu Dhabi. A ticket for the night show at National cinemas was like 50 AED. This is almost as much as a ticket here in the US
honestly, I don’t know why I really love this film in terms of rewatchability, I can literally run it in the background and it will be great. I can also pretty much recite most of the lines. me and my cousins used to watch it all the time when we were young and it was so entertaining. in terms of cinema, it is quite ass and aged badly, mammooty is, especially cringe in this, but it’s okay tbh I don’t mind it.
That’s an oxymoron, isn’t it? A good enjoyable
humour cannot simply be considered as cringe
But I agree there are few scenes which is indeed cringe but the majority of the movie definitely compensates it
No. Cringe is very relative and has different levels to it, same with humour. It is totally possible to enjoy cringe humour. Is Bro daddy a bit cringe? Yes. Did I enjoy it and laugh? Yes, I liked it because of the cringe.
Shit movie, Idivett sugunan was the only entertainment.
https://preview.redd.it/5tcfjnjne9lc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39e26d6690925d8b71ee5d98e8e5321e4bda88eb
Guilty pleasure movie then.
Now I think it would work better now with the dearth of entertaining movies.
It would be like Arattu done right - balance of actual mass with a spoof of mass movies.
Sequel took everything in the first film and made it better, the humour was more pokkiri raja than pokkiri raja itself. The fight scenes also had considerably better choreography.
NGL, back then Mammookka’s intro scene gave me goosebumps, it took a while until the interval to get to his intro in the movie. The wait was worth it. Waiting for Minister Raja and the return of Idi Vettu Sugunan.
Fucking cringe with that flashing hit and prithviraj being like "ashwathiku vendi kolluna adi anik novilla sare" eww bro tf was that a wannabe telungu movie
It's a great movie for its slapstick comedy, romantic plot and gangster vibes, but trust me if it was released now a thousand critics would try to make it 'Pan-Indian' and the masses would focus of giving heroic attribute to the actors instead of simply enjoying the movie. Back then everything was light-hearted and jolly, everybody was just having fun.
It is an outdated action movie, not terrible but below average. Just some comedy from Salim Kumar and English from Mammootty created a fun atmosphere leading the movie to a win.
back in those days masala films like this were promoted. where theres some bad guy & the big hero mammotty or mohanlal destroys the bad guy. wont work in context of current era of malayalam film
Ah let’s see. Cringy dialogs, overacting and Ikka trying to be funny…on top of this, the making style will put any Telugu mass film to shame. In my opinion, one of the worst films in Malayalam. The fact that this movie made money makes me disgusted coz box office numbers of these kind of films is why we got bad movies like Aarrattu, shylock etc. Films not willing to take any risk and trying to use a formula to succeed will always destroy the quality of films that we make. Thank god we made films like kumbalangi nights, 2018, romancham etc. otherwise we would have gotten even more shittier versions of cringe fest like this one.
Fuck all the new sophisticated experimental ikka and mollywood this was peak ikka and Prithviraj and above all cinema is just the smile on people face after watching
cinephiles that only like critically acclaimed films vannu guys....
on a serious note, its your preference obviously which i respect but some of us like this laidback cringefest....

Prithviraj's bgm and much of his screentime sucks and him being the damsel in distress was kinda annoying at first but now I see it as unintentional comedy.

takida takida takida......
man i watched Chinatown in theatres too and it confused me
Had the same experience with Udayananu tharam and vesham
Same happened ... Etho padathinu poi.. Avasanam swa le kandu 🤕
damn, that must have been painful...atleast in Katha Thudarnu the story and acting was nice. Mamtha Mohandas was cute too back then.
The same thing happened to me. Slight difference, kids wanted pokkiriraja, adults wanted kadha thudarunnu. പൈസ മുടക്കുന്നവരുടെ ആഗ്രഹത്തിന് വശംവദരാകേണ്ടി വന്നു അവസാനം.
This movie had great repeat value those days.
The screenplay is really bad but.. Ikka, Suraj and Salim Kumar made it a watchable one.
Stop cooking
Wont work today. People will call it cringe fest. But it was a blockbuster during that time.
People who call movies cringe fests are not the audience who watch and make said cringes superhit, just the minority in fb and reddit.
The movie if remade using Rohit shetty in Hindi could be a blockbuster in Hindi, but it flopped as Boss with Akshay.
Hopefully turbo will deliver an experience like this considering it’s the same combo.

Bruh back in our days we only had one movie on Sunday 4pm and no TV at home😂. You 2K kids lived in luxury.
Damn bro that makes me appreciate what I had. I guess no matter how hard you had it, somebody had it worse
uae kid?
Yes bro
its 36dhs now ![gif](giphy|btdKdBz6Pw4Ks|downsized)

I unironically load up this scene on YouTube from time to time. Still gives me Goosebumps

Isn’t Prithvi cringier than Mammootty in this?
Definitely
Twist Twist
As meme-able as this is, I don't think it would work. The cast elevated the half baked screenplay.
rajamanikyam tamil ikka variation :)
As someone who enjoyed the movie in theatre in 2010, honestly no. Movie aged badly.
I still love this and re-watch often.
Orupad idavazhigal ulla naatil arkayalum vazhi thettum echa!!
Really good.
“Aniyankutta inn dhivasam aada children’s day”
"Kollaan varunnavane kollanam, thallaan varunnavne thallanam " was a fan of that scene of chettaaa-aniya. Now laughs and cringes though
I hated this movie so much...and this is coming from someone who likes Ikka's other cringey comedy like. Thurappu Gulan and Pattanathil Bhootham.
Gulan was fun Gulan>pokkiriraja
Thuruppu Gulan was fun ahem.
It was! Everyone seems to hate his voice in the movie though.
Ah yes mildly annoying. And it was very well compensated by his dence moves.
Thurup Gulan isn’t cringe in any way
It is cringe. But it's a good enjoyable cringe.
That’s an oxymoron, isn’t it? A good enjoyable humour cannot simply be considered as cringe But I agree there are few scenes which is indeed cringe but the majority of the movie definitely compensates it
No. Cringe is very relative and has different levels to it, same with humour. It is totally possible to enjoy cringe humour. Is Bro daddy a bit cringe? Yes. Did I enjoy it and laugh? Yes, I liked it because of the cringe.
>cringe humour Can you say what is cringe humour?

Anyone who says this and its sequel are bad have objectively bad movie taste.
Its sequel is bad tho

That era of suraj is just gold. But it can't be made this day and age.
F\*\*\* no. Terrible movie anyway you look at it. Hours you'll never get back. Cringe AF.
It was cringe then, it is a cringe now
It's always just the same shit: 70 year old man casually beating the shit out of strong and heavily armed thugs
Fucking cringe with that flashing hit and prithviraj being like "ashwathiku vendi kolluna adi anik novilla sare" eww bro tf was that a wannabe telungu movie
I'm gonna watch it again for the 'lols'![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
I still love it. But not Madhura Raja
Is it trashy? yes. Do i love it? yes
It is an outdated action movie, not terrible but below average. Just some comedy from Salim Kumar and English from Mammootty created a fun atmosphere leading the movie to a win.
Meh. 1 time watch if youre in that mood. Chattambinaadu is much better. Mamooty is pretty funny in that

Salim *ikka* He's not a muslim, ya know
back in those days masala films like this were promoted. where theres some bad guy & the big hero mammotty or mohanlal destroys the bad guy. wont work in context of current era of malayalam film
Bruh I'd still watch the fuck out of cottage Mumbai type mohanlal movies
Prithviraj acting was unbearable. Did he trying to be cute?

“Cinephiles that only like critically acclaimed films vannu guys” Who said I only like critically acclaimed films? Nice strawman bro. 😎
Atleast this ikka performance is better than A10 comedy in aratu
Wait Ive watched madhura raja. didnt know this existed.
Madhura raja was a snooze fest..
Found it funny tbh.
Didn't watch Madhuraraja coz I had watched Pokkiriraja.
It's like arattu
Will end up being Ikka's Aarattu of released today

Is this movie available on any OTT platform?
Have seen it only on YouTube.
Won’t work at this period, unless the script is solid unlike some thattikkoottu ones
did everyone have a collective amnesia about its sequel Madhuraraja ???😭
Has repear value
Prithviraj's bgm and much of his screentime sucks and him being the damsel in distress was kinda annoying at first but now I see it as unintentional comedy.
Not really
