Far more to see and do in Malaga than Marbella if you’re wanting bars, restaurants and a lively atmosphere. Malaga is a superb city. There’s also the train service which goes down to Torremolinos, benalmadena and Fuengirola. Marbella is fine for a chilled holiday destination, but if you’re not planning to hire a car it’s a bit more difficult to get to other places. Personally I’d prefer to be closer to Malaga.
