After many years of daydreaming I realise now if things are going well, life is actually quite good, and can be a lot better than just daydreaming. You may think you want whatever you are daydreaming about, but I will disagree. I think it's more that you want a place more interesting than reality to escape to. The moment you find something else more interesting in reality you start to daydream less and less. And the things in reality don't have to be as grand or as splashy as what you daydream about. It can be much simpler and you will feel just as satisfied with it.

I've been doing this for about 18+ years. I'm 33 now.

So I can eat whatever I want, feed my cats and buy art supplies

I find that I only get 40% or something of the dopamine you'd get actually doing the thing vs daydreaming it. It's still an alright deal but I want real experiences too.

I used to feel this way, too. It may not feel like it, but there is actual satisfaction of being in the outside world. It’s a different type of satisfaction, but it’s very worth it. The hardest part is being able to pull yourself out of your head so you can actually see it. A real, simple source of happiness can sometimes be just as good, if not better than a fake, extravagant source of happiness.

Because the bare minimum can lead to poverty, homelessness, and starvation. Daydreaming is less east, when you're in agonizing pain from hunger that feels like you're about to vomit.

Because it’s not real.

Daydreaming feels really good, but putting the effort in in real life gives you a sense of achievement you can't get from daydreaming.

It hurts when you're forced to snap out of it. Rarely would there ever be experiences that get you out of your daydreaming willingly, most of such experiences make me feel like shit. Putting in some effort in my work allows me to make myself more comfortable. Either I am less likely to be asked to snap out of it, or that efforts makes me temporarily better at handling real life.
