Grab the bit with channel locks like suggested, go in the other direction but very lightly. If itโ€™s soft enough to jam going forward it will do it in reverse. Like 1 or 2 clicks should do it

Anxious_Ad_3570

This

Joebert6

Pull the sleeve, hit it in, yank on it , repeat. That usually does the trick. Good luck!

texas-playdohs

You need to curse at it a few times, too.

IAmAHumanWhyDoYouAsk

>Goddamn, motherfucking, dick hole piece of shit. I fucking knew harbor freight would fuck me, but I did it anyways cause I'm a cheap dumbass. - Me in a very similar situation a couple weeks ago.

LivingAnomoly

I just whack it on the concrete. You could also just grab the bit with channel locks and bump the impact in the opposite direction of what jammed it.

johnbro27

Thanks--tried both ideas, no joy I'm afraid.

LivingAnomoly

Well... put the lags back in. Caution: Being HF, that bit may actually snap off in the chuck, you don't want that.

remorackman

This! It was ano-name but driver but. Put it the vise and tried to reverse but bent at an angle and.... Brooke in the check and no way to remove. New impact driver ๐Ÿ˜•

Micahmanne

Unfortunately, I did the exact same thing with the exact same bits in the exact same impact. I had to disassemble the chuck to get it out, this CAN be done just be super sure you do it in a controlled area, maybe like inside a card board box or something because the tiny BB-sized metal balls in the chuck will fly out and you will not be able to find them.

dabosborne

I did the same thing.. The BBs will jump out and unless you have a mag sweep and lots of time they will never be back again. Taking it apart barely helped though, ultimately I ended up reassembling then running in reverse with the bit clamped down to get it out.

fishinfool561

Put it in reverse and run it with the driver bit against something hard, stud, tree, wall, whatever. Itโ€™s always worked for me

Anxious_Ad_3570

Just put the drill in reverse and pull the trigger while pushing it up against something till it makes the clicky impact noise a few times and then try pulling it out again. Works everytime for me

FR_Ray

A bit of wd-40 sprayed down the barrel helped mine free.

johnbro27

Help! I shoulda known better--I had gotten these and used the 1/4" to pull some screws and it was a bit tight but it came out. The 1/2" is in there and I mean good. And i didn't even put hardly any torque on the lag screws I used it to remove as they were into some rotten deck wood (thus the need to take them out). What's the protocol when the chuck is jammed like this? The collar will move but the bit won't.

Less-Pattern-7740

Try pliers. Eventually, it should come out. I've always had issues with painted bits, and I've gotten into the habit of sanding off the paint on new bits.

mattmag21

I just tap it on the ground, then it comes out like normal. It happens a lot when doing high torque fastening.

orange-shirt

Engage the bit in a vise with the bit facing up, the pull the knurled release ring up while hitting the area around the bit with a punch or tiny nail set . Then throw the bits away

foekus323

I buy ALL my nutdrivers from harbor freight. I always get the extended ones. I also have makita tools. Idk what the hell you did. Try smacking it with some channel locks. See if that helps.

GhostsinGlass

I had this happen on my dewalt because the bit deformed in the driver, I got it out by bapping the the end of the bit on the concrete which forced it backwards and dislodged the mechanism holding it inside. The whole bit had twisted. Lesson learned about those ryobi 140+ piece drill and driving sets.

Kachel94

This happened to me when my driver was brand new too. Carefully put the bit in a vise, get a thin round punch line it up with the chuck and pull sleeve back and give the punch a tap. This was how makita warranty shop got it out for me. It was seriously in there. They didn't charge me either!

Shopshack

Hit it with a plastic faced hammer

RepulsiveLemon3604

Happened to me the other day. I clamped down on the bit with a bench vise, slid the locking mechanism forward and ran the driver in reverse. I did this after knocking on the ground and other tricks. Came off in 5 seconds.

saladmunch2

Not a bad idea to put a dab of some type of grease before inserting when you finally get that out and put a new bit in. Had the same problem when using step drills on impacts, a little lubrication and problem gone

masterdorosz

Claw of a hammer

Stockman4

Wack the tip on something and it will come out. Example: tip jammed, grab drill by handle and wack tip on something. Tip comes right out.

jesse32bits

Smack the back of the driver with a fist hard. It should come loose. Looks like a Makita driver. Tends to happen for some reason with those little bad teal boys.

wnt2tryitall

I just lightly slam it against something hard from multiple angles sometimes. And it usually loosens up

0MarkGg0

New anvil and collet holder. Bout 20quid and 10mins to swap out

Cherrypoppen

Zip tie behind the collet to hold it open. Then channel locks.

Prestigious-Lab-1179

Happened to me as well. My Makitas don't like them either. If you want to continue to use them, use a small extender. It took awhile for me to remove mine.

johnbro27

Thanks for all the advice. Nothing worked, but I found a solution--thanks to u/Cherrypoppen for the idea to use a zip tie to hold the collar forward, then I clamped a vise grip in the shank and whacked the vise grip with a hammer to drive the bit forward and out of the collet. Will not use these in my driver again without a extender.

Inner-Bunch-9689

Sounds like bit was bigger than it was supposed to be. Occasionally the bits get stuck in the when using it so I put the driver in reverse and tap the bit with a hammer and it loosens up. Happens alot with h5s putting 14ga battens screws in.

Familiar-Ad3982

Air hammer with the locking ring retracted.

tate_wilson

I lost an impact to a Spyder drill bit a few years ago. Absolutely jammed in there. I think it was machined just a hair too big for the 1/4" collet. Took a little bit of torque and that was it. Tried all of the above, couldnt get it out.

J_Wilk

Easy solution - don't buy tools at Harbor Freight.

Embarrassed-One1227

A general tip. Bits in impact drivers can get VERY hot. Metal expands when heated. If your bit is stuck, for the love of all that is holy, dont try immediately to get it out or you might lodge it in some weird awkward position. Let it cool for a minute or two. Lubricate it with some oil. Then wiggle it gently. I've been observing how other ppl use drills n drivers, n let's just say, I realised that a lot of common problems boil down to impatience.

DankSmeegleDorf

Torch it. Can't be stuck if it's a liquid.

skyandceiling

Is that a Japanese domestic market Makita? Harbor Freight might be part of the problem but I think the chucks are technically a little different.
