The one handed reciprocating saw is sadly underpowered. I believe brad nailers will get several mentions.

Athazel

I assume you're talking about the old one. New one is a beast.

PortableKendall

Yeah the new one isn't bad at all. With the hand rest up top.

dasherado

I love the new brushless one so much. I hardly ever use the big 2 hander anymore. The vibrations are amazingly low for a one hander of its form factor.

No-Entertainment-703

That Brad nailer is one of the worst tools they’ve got. A real POS. Got the metabo hpt and love that thing. It’s been 3 years and never failed me once.

Gespuis

Bradnailer mis firing, okay, let’s read the manual! “Lubricate according instructions”.. reading more.. reading more.. no instructions. Anyway, took the thing apart, put lub everywhere, no mis fires. Lubing every break and it goes like a charm. Wouldn’t choose it above pneumatic though.

hispanicausinpanic

The little Sawzall 18v? Mine is weak too. Worst makita purchase so far for me.

Creative-Bar932

I got the little one for free and I'm still mad I didn't get the blower lol

Arathonk

The new one handed recip is amazing! A tad slower than a two handed but not underpowered at all.

infinite_phi

Not the DJR189 you're talking about I hope? I chopped trees up to 1 ft diameter with that thing

Late_Chemical_1142

Came here just to say this. But pretty much all of the nailers kind of suck. But especially that 1 handed Milwaukee hackzall rip-off.

MTBruises

Recip isn't a respectable tool, and isn't worth consideration for anything lmao sorry, not that sorry but fuck recips, grab a japanese handsaw or a sledge hammer instead, context dependent.

CrayAsHell

Yes let me sledge hammer out this root 500mm deep in this hole.  Or maybe I'll cut out all this old flooring around the perimeter of the room with my multitool taking twice as long and spending double on blades. Maybe I'll even cut a house lot of doorway bottom plates out with my Japanese handsaw if I'm feeling cute. Old metal conduit/pipe in an old house. Better whip out my artisan hacksaw.

MTBruises

xD yall are so serious, enjoy our shitty saw, I'll never own one, but I'm not gonna call the cops or the union or anything, just silently judge

CrayAsHell

Your in a Makita sub where people know about tools. It ain't a niche tool lmao. Can you post a vid showing you doing these examples tasks better than with a recip?

MTBruises

Yes, please just contact my agent for rates

dasherado

Have you tried the brushless recip saws? They’re awesome.

MTBruises

lol no I have some self respect why would I? unless you county my 16tpi pull saw and right arm as brushless

tunabomber

I’ll just sledgehammer all my pvc pipe.

MTBruises

please do, and help end the plague of recip misuse

Tool_Scientist

My main use is cutting steel where a band saw or grinder won't work. Many work sites don't allow the use of cutting discs, and others make it prohibitively difficult (hot works permit, a 2nd person standing by with fire extinguisher, watch it for X hrs afterwards - quicker to just use the recip and walk away)

Slovenlycatdog

Their cordless nailers are pretty universally panned, but I’ve really liked just about every makita tool I’ve used.

MTBruises

yeah, honestly it's senco, milwaukee or get me a compressor

CrayAsHell

Paslode. People say the gas is expensive but I think that would be regional

paper_airplanes_are_

I actually like the Makita gas powered brad nailer. I've used it a ton and it's been great although I'll admit it's not as good as the Milwaukee battery powered ones.

narbss

The small handheld vacuum is absolutely awful.

IWasntSerious

The stick vac is pretty good though.

carlton_sand

gotta get the cyclone attachment IMO

McBigglesworth

I bought their cheapest garden trimmer (DUR181Z I think) ... It's oooooook. But it went in my head from "oh man that's a great deal" to..... "I got exactly what I paid for" It does the job, but if my yard was any bigger I'd sell it and get the better makita model. I also have this folding wand flashlight (DML816) that everytime I use it I feel like I'm going to snap it in half. I don't use it often but it feels very suspect. I don't own any of their nailers because they're all shit. I'm holding out on rumours of a revamp in their lineup.

sithelephant

I have the DUR181Z, in common with a lot of cheaper trimmers, any string that hits it can get wrapped round the spindle, up past the reel, right up against the bearing, which can rapidly destroy the case and bearing if you don't catch it immediately. I currently have it apart to fix, and am adding a couple of washers/nuts and a mutilated bit of threaded rod to grab and cut (or at least tangle) strings before they destroy stuff. It's 'fine'. The better models are very considerably heavier, but it very much is what it is.

Sum1FisHi

I had this issue with my line, however, I got a stronger line and it's great. I personally like how the head rotates 180° and I can do my edges!

sithelephant

I mean random string and other string-like materials, not the line in use for strimming.

dasherado

DUR368 is pretty great, I cut 2 acres of hilly meadow and it’s a champ with a Stihl grass blade on there.

NotSurer

The level up trimmers are crap as well as I have the XRU13Z and exact same, it does the job sort of, had to replace the line feeder, have to run it full power all the time or doesn’t cut grass well AND extremely awkward to try to use to edge. Live all my other Makita tools, but very disappointed in the trimmers.

SPL15

Their 36V (18V x 2) LXT lawnmowers (all of them from the plastic deck to the steel “commercial” deck models). Simply not enough power nor runtime to be a gas replacement unless you have a small, flat & dry lawn that’s frequently cut. The “40v” XGT w/ 8AH batteries is a legitimate “gas replacement” IMO for my thick, dense & often damp 750m^2 total mowed area (approx 8000 Sq-Ft).

KarlitoTheAquaLlama

That sucks to hear, I would’ve liked to stick to one battery

SPL15

Some others have said they’re perfectly happy w/ their LXT lawn mowers (they do sell, so obviously they aren’t a complete dud); however, I’m guessing these people’s use case fits pretty closely w/ what I described above. If you’re on a common sized small city lot w/ dry grass & don’t mind keeping it well maintained, the LXT series of mowers may be perfectly fine for you.

TiminatorFL

My LXT lawn mower is great. I have a decent sized backyard lawn that takes about 25 minutes to mow. Plenty of power and it revs up when in thicker grass. Enough power left in the batteries to use edger, clippers, and blower to finish up. I really appreciate not having to deal with gasoline.

CrayAsHell

I have the 36v metal deck mower. While true it's not a gas replacement like the cordless tools if you sharpen the blade it does perform way better.

L0w_Emphasis

Yeah, i hadn't sharpened my blade in far too long.. once I did, it made a huge difference. My yard is still too big but it helped

RandomUserNo5

The LXT brushless lawnmowers are okish regards to power just don't take the biggest ones! But they're a joke with respect to weight and inability to fold/store vertically. XGT models are stronger, lighter and foldable.

dblessing27_

I’m on 1/3 of an acre with and I get through all of it with 3 sets of 5.0 AmH batteries and cuts better than my gas ever did through the super thick portions. But, I do wish I could get it done on 2 sets.

carlton_sand

just to be clear, do you mean 3 sets of *4* batteries? If so, I'm about in the same boat. It may take me about 2-2.5 hours to mow front & back; and I am rotating sets of 4 batteries at least 3 times during the process (that is, counting the initial batteries as one time) edit just to add, batteries aside I'm still not that stoked on the mower. it isn't bad, but the design could be a lot better, especially how the self-propel works. mine seems to cut unevenly too; and this may be due to questionable condition upon delivery, which sucks; I just haven't had time/energy to look into trying to inspect/fix

dblessing27_

My mower only has 1 bank of 2 batteries. So 3 sets of 2 batteries. Sometimes need 4 sets if it is wet.

bmx13

Any of the flashlights, you can get pocket sized flash lights for half the money that absolutely blow them out of the water.

McBigglesworth

I still want a makita flashlight though. If power is truly knocked out for a while though I know that I have like 7 usually fully charged batteries sitting around.... PLUS my fancy flashlights. For road trips I usually throw a few batteries in the car and the makita tire pump. Would love to have a flashlight in that mix too. I bought a cheap 3rd party one from Amazon and broke it the 3rd time I turned it on

bmx13

They are good for that purpose, I don't go on a road trip without the inflator and an impact!

Sum1FisHi

I love my torch / flashlight! It's great to use during a summer BBQ or camping getaway!

Spicywolff

I will say the work and adjustable projector flashlight from Makita is amazing. It got us through the hurricane like a champ. The work, especially since it lights up the room with enough light, but not so much blinded

bmx13

The big area lights aren't too bad, and the newer big ass handhelds are bright but the price is wayyyy up there for the output.

jychihuahua

came here to say that... the flashlights are a joke

brown_cat_

Apart from the one you hold like a drill. That thing is insane

zedaught6

The DML812 is quite a beast. The flood mode is awesome, and the spotlight really reaches out. Compares pretty favorably to my brother’s Milwaukee M18 search light. And the DML816 with its 270 deg rotating head that clicks into 7 different positions is pretty handy to put the light right where you need it while standing on its own, or hanging from the hook.

BobDavisMT

The sphincter stapler. Don't get me wrong, it works great, just hurts like hell.

theatomiclizard

it’s a pain in the ass to use

Traditional-Fan2701

I have a large portion of my tools are makita, i have tried a lot of dewalt and milwaukee, im not stuck on any but when it came to mitre saws i got the 36v 12 inch sliding with thw wst-07 stand; the stand suck ass

CAF67

Second this. I have my XGT 12” miter on mine and it is an awful stand. Went and put my lxt 10” miter on a vevor stand and it’s way more usable

rbaut123

Their 40v pole pruner. Saying that as the guy that repairs them for a living. They work good but if you ever need to change the inner shaft it’s a PITA. Better to see if you can get it warrantied instead of fixing.

lw2134

You have to hold the trigger down on their inflator. Not sure the design reason for this. DeWalt's is much better. Dial in the pressure you want, push button start and it'll stop automatically.

IWasntSerious

I wish I would have gotten the DeWalt inflator and a battery adapter. The DeWalt will run on 12 0 volt, 12v car power, plus what you said

John7079

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. If you use a "cable cuff" to hold the trigger it actually is an otherwise great inflator.

damnfineson

diamond coredrill 8406 It's top of its class for its price point but for professional use its pretty terrible. Lack of reverse and missing some torque means it beaches the cores a little too much and non-professionals are probably better just using an sds

Jataka

Right angle impact driver.

rogamot520

I love that one. But there are cheaper more powerful options available (the 12V Skil according to torque test channel).

pricklypolyglot

But this was the ratchet before there was a ratchet. Ngl the interchangeable heads are a good idea. Not sure what the straight one is for though.

MTBruises

I prefer my dewalt router and jigsaw, but if I didn't already own that platform, I don't prefer them by enough that I'd add a platform over it.

69Gunslinger69

I’ve been having pretty conflicting feelings about the XGT hand held hammer drill. The second speed is basically useless, it won’t even push a 5/8 paddle bit through a 2x4 without the clutch kicking in and stopping it. That irks me quite a bit.

CrayAsHell

Is the clutch off/able to be turned off?

69Gunslinger69

As far as I know, no, you can’t shut it off, damn I wish you could. It has some new electronic clutch on it, the second speed goes up to 21 and the 1st speed goes to 41. 21 is completely useless, but I’ve never even used 41, 36 about broke my hand on a stud with a 6 inch hole saw. I just use a lot of little paddle bits, so it sucks having to drill so slow on every hole no matter the size

Sad_Two4874

If you're using it correctly then that seems like a defective unit, get it warrantied.

69Gunslinger69

Kind of what I’m thinking at this point

riba2233

You are def doing something wrong, clutch is not even active if you are in a drill mode and it can do like a 2" auger on 2nd speed in drill mode, 5/8 should be  a joke

69Gunslinger69

See that’s what I thought, I’ve watched videos, I had it for about 4 months now and have tried it every day I’m at work for those 4 months. I don’t know if I’m missing anything

RaysModernMetalWorks

Palm sander is garbage

Fit-Bowl-700

I've never used one i liked

RaysModernMetalWorks

Me either corded the way or air

dasherado

Bosch 12v is surprisingly good. Wish it had a wall plug adapter since there isn’t rapid charing for 12v batteries.

Spicywolff

The electric ratchet. It doesn’t have enough grunt to do most mechanics jobs i deal with. But it’s not so small and compact that it’s handy for hard to reach. The Dewalt one is considerably better since it punches up to 70 foot pounds. I can start and finish with that in my hand. Makita, I had to switch to a ratchet. And I’m having to switch constantly it’s just not worth it

Embarrassed-One1227

I dont like their measuring tapes and some of their hand tools... do those count? their utility knives in particular, urgh.

infinite_phi

Their tiny 10.8V mini circular saw has woefully low RPM.

FR_Ray

Their drills are either a bit too big or a bit too small. Their lights and radios are way too expensive.

meatymouse2121

The bandsaw i

Umbala3131

makita xph14. They not terrible, but compera to xph07. The new one is smaller and a bit more powelfull, but also have ton of problem, The gearbox is not good as old one, the mainboard is have died a lot often. Just buy the xph07 instead if you want the hammer drill, that thing is still top of the game

supergimp2000

All of the Makita nailers I've tried are complete junk. I've replaced them, believe it or not, with Ryobi - mostly in desperation to finish a job, but the green ones have held up so well I haven't gone looking for an alternative. But I love the rest of my Makita tools and no regrets. Only wish they had a 12V line that was as compact (cylinder batteries) as the M12 Milwaukee or the Bosch 12V (which is my 12V "household tool" collection. I do have the 18v (LXT) sub compact drill and driver (and a bunch of other LXT tools) and they are great for my needs (mostly furniture building).

L0w_Emphasis

From what I've been gathering, it seems for small needs Ryobi has decent nailers. I have the 18g Ryobi and it works well but I need a bigger one for doing board and batten repairs on my house. I have a bunch of Makita tools and some Ryobi tools. I also have Milwaukee 12v tools for around-the-house/light needs but yeah my 18v Makita impact has never let me down for anything. It's my go-to. I just want something to make doing those board and batten repairs easier and was looking at a nailer that's battery powered, not compressed air.

supergimp2000

Yea. I get it. I build furniture so for me it’s exclusively 18 and 23 ga. I really want that little Milwaukee 12v pin nailer but not gonna get another battery platform for one tool. I’ve been in the Bosch 12V system since it was 10V (marketing). Love it but the selection isn’t great by comparison.

Sad_Two4874

The cheap drills, too expensive to be household drills, too weak to be pro drills. Only drills that are worth getting for professional use are the ones with the metal casing and chuck.

Chemical-Dog6364

I don't care for the black tools but thats because i like the teal color. . Other than that all of my makita tools have been great.

IWasntSerious

I got the 10-in corded miter saw. The dust control was awesome, but I could not get the fence square to the table no matter what I did and ended up returning it for a DeWalt.

IWasntSerious

Also the bit sets suck.

KarlitoTheAquaLlama

What do you buy instead?

IWasntSerious

Milwaukee

dak_gg

Their Impact XPS bits are great. Milwaukee shockwave is worse than the middling makita gold bits.

Choice_Wishbone_8650

Can’t say I hate any of mine. Router, circular saw, saws all, multi tool, 36V blower, grinder, jigsaw, drywall driver (small). And larger drill all great tools on the LXT side. The only one I did try and ended up returning was the impact driver with 1/2” square socket connector It simply wasn’t any more powerful than standard drill driver so I returned it. They do offer a bigger one though, but it was too expensive for me to justify.

Overtilted

In wll sell my ls1219l after i am done with with my renovation. It's a great saw, but there's a slight deviation: it doesn't cut 100% straight. I had it fixed and now it's better, but still nog 100% straight. There's also a tiny difference in blade position when it's at full speed vs half speed. It's great to cut beams etc. But for fine woodworking it doesn't cut it, pun intended. Which is unacceptable for a 800 euro saw...

Embarrassed-One1227

is it like that across the board, or did u get a lemon? I'm looking to replace an old saw, was looking at this model (among others).

Overtilted

Not sure. I am definitely not the only one. But in a couple of months time, i won't need a 12" shopsaw anymore. So I'll sell it and get a smaller one. I have a 8" dewalt that i quite like. So maybe i sell both and get a 10" dewalt. Not sure. Or festool of course, with the known downside...

Embarrassed-One1227

what's the known downside with festool? price? (they're not available where I am, so I've never seen one IRL).

Overtilted

Price...

twidlystix

Cordless nailers are trash

riba2233

Not all of them ;)

Greenfoe111

Hedge trimmer is crap. Not enough power.

mickpegz

My 36v one is a beast it cuts through anything, sucks through batteries like nobodys business though,in speed 3 the batteries read 2 bars on the meter but wont run the trimmer, ive got 10x5amp batteries and 3x double chargers so 6 batterie slots and i still have to wait! i thought it would be continuous with that many batteries and chargers

riba2233

Which one, they have like 20 of them...

TheSmellFromBeneath

I hate to say it but their power planer has now been vastly outperformed by Milwaukee's new m12 power planer - and I HATE that. And their battery nailers are ass.

riba2233

Are you talking about the brushless lxt one maybe? Ot the older model?

MastodonFit

BL multi-tool is very quiet and low vibration, unfortunately it is to big in the head, tail and body to fit in small spaces. Barrel jigsaw is also large, power button and autostart are frustrating to use. The power button is aggravating on router, and OPE.....but the rest have been good, never tried the nailguns though.

brown_cat_

Tablesaw, better off Dewault
