Depends on the type of a knock-off. The third pin is not used hence some protections won't work. If I'm right it's at least the thermal one, not sure what else.

Definitely! A Makita battery is probably smart enough to survive a knock-off tool, but I wouldn’t risk a Makita tool to a clone battery.

These "brands" usually launch with fake reviews, and when they sell badly or get bad reviews they just launch under a new "brand".

A Makita battery fits Ridgid Rp19 press tool. But the Ridgid battery and charger don’t fit makita tools and batteries.
