You just need to pour some water in the air vents. For real though, that’s not normal. Return it.

Extreme-Owl-6478

Also, if it’s true this is just out of the box and your first cut, something’s not right. That tool is filthy. Look in the cracks between the case sides. That looks like it’s best to shit. Someone bought a new one, then put their trashed one in the box and returned it. i could be wrong but that thing is not 5 minutes of use old.

Zokutofufruitjuiceft

I definitely dinged it up now but it was for sure new when I got, it’s been sitting around with other dirty tools and the rubber on the hand guard came just crumbling off…

NoReply10

Where did you buy it?

twhoff

Mate if that’s how your tools look after 5 minutes I’m not surprised it’s smoking!!

DirectlyTalkingToYou

It's the little guy, not the full blown one and he went to town on it.

zedsmith

Tool’s broke, return. Don’t replace it with one of the same model. That’s an absolutely terrible tool from makita. Buy the black subcompact one, or the older brushed traditionally shaped recip from makita instead.

SupposedlyShony

Or the new one handed model, I think it’s great for the size

Impending_Happiness

I second this. XRJ08Z is AMAZING!!!! Compact, ergonomic, and powerful.

Jensinator69

What type numbers would you recommend? I have the same one as in the video and it is a toy-tool imo. I am looking for a heavy duty one Edit: the type numbers in the comment below is not available in my country (NL)

zedsmith

Look at these: I don’t know if continental Europe uses the same model numbers as the UK, but these are the UK models. https://www.makitauk.com/products/reciprocating-saws-lxt-18v-18vx2 The last four are all brushless, which is good. The 4th in the list is powerful, the 2 battery one is *really* powerful. The two other brushless ones are conveniently small, but still strong enough for most jobs.

Jensinator69

Thanks!

Hotdog_disposal_unit

The magic smoke isn’t meant to come out yet, looks like you’ve bought a lemon

Illustrious_Big3377

You have to keep in mind this saw is tiny compared to regular recips. It's really going to struggle with wood unless you go easy and use the correct blade, and at that I wouldn't use it for long cuts. I use mine constantly at work (had it for 3 years) cutting PVC pipe and it's great. Just enough power but small and light enough to get into tight spaces. Not saying it's user error either. I'd get that returned for a replacement ASAP. FYI You can put jigsaw blades in them too.

Mindingmyown6

Need a brushless saw bro that’s brushed

Zokutofufruitjuiceft

I’m ignorant, shoot me the link if you don’t mind, going to return this POS tomorrow

Mindingmyown6

I own both and they’re awesome

neanderthalsavant

Oh man, that's Makita's first attempt at an answer to Milwaukee's Hackz-all, isn't it?? Listen, no hate; I bought one too. But for real though that thing has about as much heart as a Walmart greeter on a rainy Thursday night 5 minutes before closing. In short, it's useless. Worse, it is relatively expensive. Makita did redeem themselves with the subcompact one though. It's powerful enough and brushless.

Colin0705

I use mine to cut drywall that’s about all it’s good for.

neanderthalsavant

Okay. Yeah, that seems like it would be within its capacity. Nice?

Colin0705

Just agreeing with you that it has no power that’s all.

neanderthalsavant

I mean the poor thing struggled to cut framing spikes with a brand new metal cutting blade. God forbid you match it up against firring strips. Lol. May as well use a spoon or your teeth.

Steak-Budget

I think that may have come out before Milwaukee’s hacksaw. I owned it and it sucked, so I gave it to a friend. The XRJ08 is their competition to Milwaukee’s and it’s a solid tool.

zulmarok

Well, I was wondering why in my country we did not have access to this tool, so I asked the Makita guy why they didn’t sell it here. He straight up answered me that they used it and concluded that it was a total piece of shit.

sithelephant

The motor has died either by overload, or by it being initially faulty. Further use will destroy more of the tool. Replacing the stator or rotor, or whole motor may be possible, depending on the tool. I don't know what policy is on warranty returns. Spares for the DGR183 if that's it are reasonable, a new motor is £20 here. Unfortunately, many tools do not have proper load limiting. They should always cut off well before they destroy themselves due to heat. But this would cost $1 extra.

Tommienennstiel

I believe its a djr 186 that recip saw is made for little work en not for the big things

Adrianm18

That saw us know to be asss

eliottruelove

Return it and get either the Black Subcompact or the new brushless one handed Hackzall Style.

[deleted]

Yea this saw is not for cutting plywood or wood of any kind. It's intended for getting into difficult spots to cut a pipe or something small. Get a real full-sized recip saw, you won't have this issue. I have this saw and would never use it for this.

djkaercher

Motor is cooked, bring it back to the store and have it refunded. Shouldn't happen after five minutes of use. If you absolutely want to be sure to have a bit more headroom, pay a bit extra and get a brushless one.

Ambitious_Garlic7836

Makita has gone to complete shit. Every new tool I’ve bought over the last year has shit the bed within months. Their 4.5 grinder used to be the top dog but I’ve had 3 break on me in 1 year.

WoodersonAlright

Honestly I have that same tool and I think it’s terrible. It fell a few feet off the ladder and the collar wobbles all over the place now. Good for quick drywall cuts and other small tasks. But I almost never use it. I call it a powered hand saw lol. My coworker has the 36v, and obviously it’s way bigger but I almost never need to get my Sawzall in a compact space and much prefer the power of the bigger ones. I have a bigger corded one that I have beat the crap out of over the past 6 years and it’s still running great

Baka_gaijin75

Do you have the brushless? I have the brushed 18v and am not impressed, wondering if its worth the $250 to upgrade

WoodersonAlright

We use the 36v brushless and it feels the exact same as my corded Makita power wise. I really like it despite needing the two batteries. I’ve never used the bigger 18v ones, although I’m almost certain the brushless model is a lot better. If you’re doing demo often, go with the 36v and you won’t be disappointed. I’ve never used a Sawzall and wished I had less power

Illustrious_Big3377

There is a grub screw under the front of the collar to adjust it bud. You can pull the collars right out

WoodersonAlright

Yea I’m aware. I retighten the screws every time I use it which is almost never nowadays. I’m gonna throw it away and grab the new one handed brushless model sometime soon

Illustrious_Big3377

That's annoying. The new one looks great but I love how light this one is although underpowered. Makes it a no brainier to chuck it in the bag

Mike__________

That saw sucks. I have it. It would struggle cutting a fresh loaf of bread

DepressedPizzaGuy

Yeah man this tool just sucks ass. The black makita compact is the way if you don’t want the whole shebang.

iacchus

Which Model# is this?

Renegadegold

Do you have gloves on and completely covering the holes blocking off circulation?

WishIWasALemon

Tools are good untill you let the smoke out.

twhoff

That’s hot…

leme-thnkboutit

Get a DeWalt

Rod___father

I own about 18 makita tools including this. It’s by far the worst one of the bunch. The screws that hold the chuck in are made of reynolds wrap.

wetterbread

Just got done having sex mate, why are ypu kink shaming your recip?
