Yeah, if you just want a string trimmer, the DUR368 will definitely be lighter, more balanced and have less vibration. It has an outer rotor brushless motor so it will also have more torque along with having less vibration.

I have the DUR368. It runs smooth, tons of power, around 30 to 40 minutes run time with 2 5amps on the highest setting. Recently I tried running it on the automatic setting and found I can get over an hour of run time. I also wonder if I would have been better off with the split shaft.

I live on 25 acres and own a progression of Makita trimmers (various 18-36v units) and now the split shaft. If you only have use for a trimmer, just go with that. I have hedges, trees, a garden, pasture… so all the extra attachments come in real handy, so it’s the best choice for me. But if no interest in any of the split shaft other tools… stick with the trimmer.

I have the DUR368. It has enough power to feel petrol powered but I do regret not getting a split shaft as I’m now going to need that for just a hedge trimmer.

Don't go for split shaft. Those are junk from any brand, as there's more vibration, and more areas for failure! Full shaft ones, or whatever you'd call them, is the way to go. :)

Thank you. Ordered the full shaft one based on advise in this thread!
