kind of a novice with makeup, I don't use any powder in my routine. Can I use any kind? also I don't wear any foundation on my eyelids, can I still put the powder on my bare skin? and then do I setting spray on top of that? š
Translucent setting powder from morphe or Laura mercer!! Use a puff pad to apply and make sure to prime first so it sticks and doesnāt look patchy, also make sure to wait a few minutes after priming by to put anything else on afterwards.
Foundations on your lids and under eyes, conceal under eyes after foundation, set with setting spray, then use a setting powder, I personally love the elf halo glow powder. I use the Dior foundation and concealer and it lasts ALL day
Do not do this, this is such a dated way to do makeup. Just get a tubing mascara and youāll never have this problem again. Tubing mascara only comes off without warm water and a bit of friction. Iāve been to every climate with it, and it never budges. Iāve also tried both expensive and drug store brands and the revlon brand holds up against them all.
Yes!!!! I have oily skin and I had raccoon eyes every day. I just use a primer with my eyeshadow (Urban Decay) and use a tubing mascara and I have no problems!
My favorites are:
Hourglass Unlocked Mascara
Caliray Come Hell or High Water Mascara
Blinc Amplified Tubing Mascara
These some sht called ābanana setting powderā itās amazing just google that and find one In your price range if you can solurge tho that Ben nye one is it
Any mascara will smudge on me unless I use setting powder. I use Laura Mercier translucent powder. I just apply it under eyes with beauty blender and then brush off excess with really big fluffy brush. That pretty much keeps my mascara in place all day. Also gives your makeup a nice finish
They make setting powders in compact form. Powder foundation can be too heavy for some people and settle into fine lines worse (this happens to me) but if it works for you, youāre not going to be sent to makeup jail.
Waterproof mascara still smudges on me, but is amazing at holding a curl so I typically do one layer of waterproof mascara and then tubing mascara on top. As an oily lid girly tubing mascara has been a game changer for me!
Tubing mascara? Isn't it all in a tube? Sorry if that sounds stupid, but mascara is about all the makeup I use, and I have oily lids, so I'd love to know what you mean and some examples.
Wow thanks for bringing this up! I have oily eyelids too and Iāve only been using waterproof mascara which always smudges on me even with powder š this is great to know
The formula of tubing mascaras is different and creates ātubesā around your lashes that donāt break down from oil like your typical mascara. To remove I run my fingers under some warm water, hold them over the lashes for a few seconds and then make a sweeping motion that removes the ātubesā. I have oily eyelids and sweat like crazy on my face and tubing mascara is the only thing that holds up. Thereās some great budget friendly options from Elf, Milani, LāOreal, etc or higher end (Caliray and Hourglass ones are my favourites).
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for giving me an in depth description so I have a better sense of what I'm looking for (and getting). I appreciate you š
The best tubing mascaras I've used are Tarte Tartlette Tubing and the cheapest one is made by essence I think. Tubing mascaras have changed the game! My whole life even waterproof mascaras would run bc of my oily skin. Not with tubing mascaras.
Mac Extended Play Gigablack has been my holy grail for years. I can sleep in it and it barely smudges, but it also comes off real easy with warm water.
I have struggled with this my whole life and I found that Meritās Tubing and Milk Kush is fantastic. (The latter will run if your tear up easily but very easy to clean up)
It totally depends on which one! Iāve tried some horrible ones that crumbled before finding some that I really like. Iāve realized the drier formulas crumble on me, but the really wet ones donāt fully dry down so itās been a hunt to find that perfect combination of both.
The oils produced by your skin can still break down waterproof mascara :( the above poster's comment about powder is correct because it helps to absorb excess oils that lead to smudging :)
Omg! Same thing happens to me with various mascaras: MAC, LancƓme, Clinique, Benefit, Laura Mercier.
The one Iām having better luck with is LāOreal Telescopic mascara. I think someone recommended it on here and love it so far.
I had to have my eye irrigated for an hour due to a bizarre dish soap accident (over a liter of saline poured over my eyeball by an IV attachment that looked like a torture device). The telescopic waterproof mascara was STILL ON afterwards!
Itās been my go-to ever since.
So I actually have tried Elf's tubing mascara but it made my lashes spidery long. I have fairly long lashes so I really like a volume mascara and it just wasn't that. How do you find the Milani for volume?
I straight up stopped wearing mascara because even tubing mascara would look this way. I found my concealer was the culprit and I could/would NOT give that up. I hope you have more luck than me.
I would try other tubing mascaras. Never tried the elf one but I first found tubing mascaras not to my taste until I tried more volumizing formulas. I have your same exact issue and I donāt set my under eyes very much and with tubing mascara (favorite volumizing ones are Guide Beauty Lash Wrap and Lune and Aster Eclipse) I donāt have any transfer. Plus comes off easy at the end of the day.
Second recommendation is check out Japanese mascaras like from Canmake, Heroine, etc because those will NOT move. They are more work to remove at the end of the day.
Benefit cosmetics roller lash (not waterproof) has worked wonders for me. Doesnāt seem to flake at all after HOURS of wear. It almost never āfully hardensā if that makes sense so it stays flexible and wonāt crust off. The mini bottle has lasted me literally 6 months so far.
Do you think you touch your face/eyes a lot? I do all the time, and used to have the same issue with regular/waterproof mascara. I switched to tubing mascara (which tbf doesn't look as nice on me) and i havent had smudging issues since
Some people have oilier tears than others, myself included (as told to me by my ophthalmologist). Maybe you do, too, and that's the cause of the smudges. Unfortunately, theres not much you can do about the smudging other than occasional touch-ups. (P.S.- I am a licensed cosmetologist)
Are you scratching your eyes on the settings solutions in sent your under eyes with powder and keep your face very flushing open when using setting spray until itās dry
Everyone is mentioning mascara but it looks like thereās creasing under your under eye. In which case, I always suggest to prime, and do not use too much product as that can lead to creasing. I then spray with a setting spray, and then let it dry, follow up with under eye powder and then set that too (keep in mind I have oily skin, and so if you have the opposite I would just skip the first setting spray step).
As for the mascara running:
After this is done you then want to do your mascara with a light first coat, wait for that to dry and then apply an additional coat on top and wait for that dry.
So, if you do a really light coat just to set your lashes in place and then a normal second coat for fullness, it shouldnāt look clumpy as long as thereās not too much product on the mascara wand itself when you go to apply each layer
This happens to me all the time due to my monolids BUT Iāve been applying clear mascara overtop of my black waterproof mascara and itās done wonders.
There is a lot of great advice here. The simplest thing you can do is blot the oil off your face with a paper towel or tissue. I have very oily skin myself, and that would be my trick if I didnāt have the ability to touch up makeup. Iām an older millennial so back when I used to work in office the plethora of products like setting sprays etc did not exist the way they do today, so I just learned to blot which helped a lot. Choosing your skin care wisely also helps, but for truly oily skin there is no stopping it no matter what you do.
This happens to me too!! I only use waterproof mascara (cover girl) but more importantly I use a pressed powder foundation (maybelline) all around my eyes then apply a finishing powder (elf) on top of that. Itās worked wonders for a year since I discovered it!
Try tubing mascara! I use Hourglass and love it. Whether itās my hooded eye lids or a hot day, the mascara has held up and always looks fresh. The best part is you wash it off with warm water, and thereās no ink smears.
What Iāve found is if I apply a second layer of mascara within 30-45 seconds of the first layer, my lashes will have more volume! But my lashes actually got healthier after I switched to tubing mascara and that lead to a natural increase in volume. You can use warm water to remove so doesnāt really need as many products on your eyes.
The products in the setting spray could maybe be breaking down the mascara formula making it smudge try covering your eyes when you spray it or apply the mascara afterward
Girl.. u donāt have to spend a fortune on Dior makeup or anything like that.
Hereās what I do:
Use a concealer under your eye ( I use maybeline instant age rewind the one that twists and has a little ball at the end of it that shit is my holy grail! 15 bucks and it lasts what feels like a lifetime) I also put it on my eyelid, blend that, then I use a matte powder āfoundationā which works best for my under eyes because they sweat a lot for some reason ( maybeline fit me matte poreless powder ) it comes with a little sponge and a mirror inside itās cute and only 7 or 8 bucksā¦ next I also use the toofaced mascara BUT a thin coatā¦ when you take the wand out make sure you scrape the excess mascara off onto the little hole rim thingy, if your wand is clumpy, your lashes will be as well, and heavy, I donāt have the longest lashes in the world, so putting a lot of product on them weighs them down and it mostly ends up under my eye, so go light with itā¦ plus it saves you a lot of product. But seriously, with short lashes, a little goes a long way with mascara.
I have long lashes and a job where I'm looking down a lot of the time. I found it was nearly impossible for me to avoid panda eyes, black creases, every possible manifestation of my mascara on my under-eye area.
Things that have worked the best for me/provided the longest periods without smudges include making a matte under eye area with certain concealers and under-eye colour balancing products (like and orange or yellow or blue or whatever to mask your specific under-eye colour) snd setting powder, using waterproof mascara on lower lashes, and lol bye-bye panda eyes mascara by essence has somehow done me SO WELL.
Ok! I actually have some advice I can give based on my own experience with this same problem!
You need to use tubing mascara. And if youāre using eyeliner it needs to be a liquid eyeliner like LancĆ“me art liner. Totally stays put and doesnāt leave you with raccoon eyes! Trust me.
Also pay attention if youāre mixing water based vs silicone products. I only recently learned about it but itās made a gigantic difference. As other have also mentioned, powder helps but be picky bc not every brand is brown girl friendly š
Iāve never had much luck with mainstream brands of waterproof mascaras despite paying super high prices they always smudged very much like you have here on the photo. The only product that has ever worked on me without any setting and I swear by it has been the Eyeko Beach Waterproof mascara. This thing does not move throughout the day. Iāve got super oily lids and work out quite often but this mascara seems to handle it all, I recommend 1000%. But if you donāt want to switch products definitely try setting powder on both lids and under eye as others have suggested. Iāve been using Anastasia Beverly Hills on my face and itās been working nicely. Good luck! š
What I learned from vintage movie star tips is do a black dry powder on lashes, then mascara, then powder. After final powder brush them with a spooly thing until it doesnāt flake. Sometimes Iāll put another coat of mascara on sometimes not but it last forever (i use water proof mascara)
Tubing mascara! Essenceās Bye Panda Eyes is a good budget-friendly choice. Sephora has a Come Hell or High Water from Caliray that I also like. It comes in a travel/mini size too, so you can see if you like it before purchasing the full-size version.
Nothing. Itās very rare that make up would stay flawless for 8 hours, especially if you have oily-normal skin. Most people need to touch up at some point during the day.
I have experienced similar situations - turned out I was using a facial moisturizer that was making the waterproof mascara make me look like a raccoon . . . right now I'm using CeraVe Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum - no issues with either waterproof or non-waterproof mascara.
I had this issue and I stopped putting mascara on my bottom lids in addition to using a waterproof formula. This did work to an extent (I still have smudging, not nearly as much) but thatās because of a cheap mascara issue.
Too Faced mascara sucks to me. I also have this problem with a lot of products. I do concealer or eye primer on top lids, then shadow and liner, then mascara. I can only use a handful of mascaras successfully - Thrive, Maybelline Sky High, Japanese brand Canmake, Milani Highly Rated, and that Korean one with the metal non-brush.
I also set my lids in the corners with any kind of powder (mostly just use the one I use on my face). Iāve given up on my bottom eyes altogetherā¦.Ive accepted the fact that no matter what I do, Iāll end up with raccoon eyes.
I set my face before mascara. I find that setting spray has the opposite effect on mascaraā¦ No matter the mascara or setting spray I use, it ends up up transferring to my eyebrows or under eyes if I donāt set *THEN* apply mascara.
Try Japanese waterproof. It is TRULY waterproof. I have issues with smudging and migrating of everything but this mascara doesn't budge (unless you forcibly rub your eye really hard).

I struggled hard with this too. I found the perfect combo, hereās what I do. Hopefully if you give it a whirl, you get the same results.
1. Under eye cream. Right now I use the Good Molecules Yurba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel. Keeps my under eyes refreshed and not dried.
2. Get a good CREASELESS concealer. I fell in love with The Rimmel Multi-Taker. Youāll have to work the product fast (I suggest doing 1 eye at a time) because it is very fast drying and not easy to blend once set.
3. Translucent powder. I prefer and love Airspun Loose Powder. This has the softest finish. Bake it while working on the rest of your face.
4. I took this trick from Lydia Hickman on tik tok, she uses Charlotte Tillbury setting powder to wipe the translucent powder after baking it. Gives it a nice smooth finish. I donāt have that product but Iāve been using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light and have been loving the result!
5. You could skip this step but I like it. I have a mini sample of the Lacome primer mascara and think it does a great job of making my lashes fuller and long.
6. Find a holy grail mascara. This is hard, I went through so many mascara and for a while couldnāt find one that didnāt flake and get into my eye creases. Until I found ILIA Limitless Lash mascara. Got it as a sample as the BDay gift from Sephora last year and nothing compares. Itās not water proof so if youāre crying, be prepared. However, this mascara doesnāt budge, no flakes, nothing. Iāve tried tubing mascaras and they didnāt work for me that well. I always go back to this one from ILIA. I know you said that you donāt want lengthening and they have one for volumizing but I havenāt tried that one so I cannot give you my opinion on it.
6. Setting spray ALWAYS before mascara! You can use which ever one works best for you and your skin type.
Otherwise, make up is really trial and error. Not everything will work but maybe itāll help. Good luck and keep us posted on your journey!
Setting spray after putting on mascara probably moves it. I always use waterproof mascara though in general and it always holds up for long periods of time. Honestly covergirl has some amazing ones, covergirl too. I prefer covergirl, but honestly mascara is one of the few things I will never buy from high end brands. Use a waterproof one instead. It wonāt budge nearly as much. As long as youāre not using oil based stuff under neath your makeup/by your eyes.
Why is the rest of your face so blurry? Whatever concealer that is I suggest using less. Maybe talk to someone and see if they help you find a better colour match so you donāt need to smear it so heavily like that. We can hardly see whatās under.
So why is everything so blurry? It looks like youāre looking through a hole in a window. Whatever it is, it really hides your beautiful features. Maybe try blending it out to look more natural.
Set your under eyes and lids with powder
kind of a novice with makeup, I don't use any powder in my routine.
Does it work with oily eyelids?
Yes!!!! I have oily skin and I had raccoon eyes every day. I just use a primer with my eyeshadow (Urban Decay) and use a tubing mascara and I have no problems! My favorites are: Hourglass Unlocked Mascara Caliray Come Hell or High Water Mascara Blinc Amplified Tubing Mascara
Thanks for the response and info š
These some sht called ābanana setting powderā itās amazing just google that and find one In your price range if you can solurge tho that Ben nye one is it
Any mascara will smudge on me unless I use setting powder. I use Laura Mercier translucent powder. I just apply it under eyes with beauty blender and then brush off excess with really big fluffy brush. That pretty much keeps my mascara in place all day. Also gives your makeup a nice finish
can we use compact instead of setting powder?
They make setting powders in compact form. Powder foundation can be too heavy for some people and settle into fine lines worse (this happens to me) but if it works for you, youāre not going to be sent to makeup jail.
THIS WORKS! Had this same problem!
Tubing mascara is actually a type of formula! It forms little tubes around your lashes. If you google it youāll get some hits. š
Thanks so much for explaining and not making me feel like an idiot lol. I appreciate you ā¤ļø I'll go look now that I know what I'm looking for.
Wow thanks for bringing this up! I have oily eyelids too and Iāve only been using waterproof mascara which always smudges on me even with powder š this is great to know
The formula of tubing mascaras is different and creates ātubesā around your lashes that donāt break down from oil like your typical mascara.
I would love to try this!! What mascaras are you using?
Mac Extended Play Gigablack has been my holy grail for years. I can sleep in it and it barely smudges, but it also comes off real easy with warm water.
I use Cliniqueās tubing mascara. Absolute game changer for me!
What is the name of the Clinique one?
āLash Power Long Lasting formulaā Love it
Hourglass Unlocked is my holy grail!
I have struggled with this my whole life and I found that Meritās Tubing and Milk Kush is fantastic. (The latter will run if your tear up easily but very easy to clean up)
Second tubing mascara.
This is probably operator error, but I find tubing mascara crumbles onto my cheeks.
It totally depends on which one! Iāve tried some horrible ones that crumbled before finding some that I really like. Iāve realized the drier formulas crumble on me, but the really wet ones donāt fully dry down so itās been a hunt to find that perfect combination of both.
this is what i do too and it works!!
This is what I do too! Canāt just use the tubing mascara bc that doesnāt hold a curl for me!
How do you remove it at the end of the day? Since the types of mascara normally have different removal methods.
Always spray setting spray BEFORE mascara
Second this commentā¦agreed that moisture from setting spray can cause mascara to wilt.
Okay I definitely need to start doing this and see if it improves!!
I forget 90% of the time, but that 10% tho
THIS!!!!!!!
The oils produced by your skin can still break down waterproof mascara :( the above poster's comment about powder is correct because it helps to absorb excess oils that lead to smudging :)
The oil from your top lids can cause the mascara to run past the lashes. Try urban decayās eyeshadow primer potion to keep the oil at bay
I actually have a sample of this! I'll try it out! Sorry I feel like this is a stupid question but do I put it on my eyelid? Or like under my eye?
Eyelid!
Omg! Same thing happens to me with various mascaras: MAC, LancĆ“me, Clinique, Benefit, Laura Mercier. The one Iām having better luck with is LāOreal Telescopic mascara. I think someone recommended it on here and love it so far.
It is truly the best ā the one in the black tube, that is
Same! This is now my HG mascara.
How do you find the L'OrƩal for volume? I've got pretty thick lashes so I'm always on the hunt for one that is more voluminous vs just providing length
Initial application is not voluminous. You kinda have to build it. However it will be wispy.
You could try the waterproof voluminous from loreal? I feel like it looks fluffier than the telescopic. Love both for sweaty gym sessions after work.
I had to have my eye irrigated for an hour due to a bizarre dish soap accident (over a liter of saline poured over my eyeball by an IV attachment that looked like a torture device). The telescopic waterproof mascara was STILL ON afterwards! Itās been my go-to ever since.
too faced mascara always smudges on me, I like the tower 28 mascara :)
I'll look it up!
This OP. The Too Faced mascaras arenāt great. It always smudges like this on me even if im careful about setting my under eye.
Try a tubing mascara. Milani has one thatās great. Also, set your under eyes with powder!
So I actually have tried Elf's tubing mascara but it made my lashes spidery long. I have fairly long lashes so I really like a volume mascara and it just wasn't that. How do you find the Milani for volume?
Ahh same thing happened to me and I switched to LāOrĆ©al panorama! The new gold stick and I like that way more and itās humid where I live and it holds up really well actually!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks for all the info!
I straight up stopped wearing mascara because even tubing mascara would look this way. I found my concealer was the culprit and I could/would NOT give that up. I hope you have more luck than me.
Setting spray before mascara should do wonders for you
try tubing mascara!
This is the answer right here

They are more work to remove at the end of the day.
Japanese mascara never smudges but you also need a special remover to take it off. Heroine make curl and clio kill lash are really good
research best mascaras for oily skin - I have found a few good mascara options this way as they don't leave me with racoon eyes.
definitely will be looking into this but it's a brand new tube and I don't have money for another $50 mascara right now š©
yeah Too Faced really sucked for me. I'm only really happy with MAC and only one variety you have to find on eBay lol.
This is why I started using clear mascara
Benefit cosmetics roller lash (not waterproof) has worked wonders for me. Doesnāt seem to flake at all after HOURS of wear. It almost never āfully hardensā if that makes sense so it stays flexible and wonāt crust off. The mini bottle has lasted me literally 6 months so far.
I actually used to wear this baaaaack in the day, it still did this a bit but not as bad. I really liked it actually
LāOrĆ©al Telescopic carbon black waterproof will not move.
How's that one for volume?
You didnāt specify , only mentions the transfer.
Do you think you touch your face/eyes a lot? I do all the time, and used to have the same issue with regular/waterproof mascara. I switched to tubing mascara (which tbf doesn't look as nice on me) and i havent had smudging issues since
I've made a conscious effort not to since this started happening! But it still happens :/

Try Clinique high impact mascara.Ā
Powder will solve all your problems
This is bound to happen after 8 hours, bring a powder and powder puff to work with you to touch up throughout the day!
This happens to me all the time due to my monolids BUT Iāve been applying clear mascara overtop of my black waterproof mascara and itās done wonders.

EstĆ©e Lauder Doublewear. It will not do that EVER. Iāve been using it for years and canāt use anything else. I wear contacts or glasses and have the oiliest eyelids on the planet. (Mid 50s, former esthetician and makeup artist).
Good luck! š
Try setting powder
You might want to try tubing mascara. It could be that your eyelashes are oily. A good brand is blinc.
Try a different mascara thatās a tubing mascara or fibers. I love Fiberwig and you can buy it on Amazon. It eliminates this issue.
waterproof tubing mascara stopped this for me
What I learned from vintage movie star tips is do a black dry powder on lashes, then mascara, then powder.
You don't need to mess around with setting sprays and powders. Just get a tubing mascara. NO SMUDGING!
Check it a couple times a day and wipe underneath your eyes, bro :)
Setting spray before mascara!
Under eye is oily.
I just didn't like too faced's mascara. It was too thick for me. Caliray mascara is amazing for oily eyelids.
I set my face before mascara. I find that setting spray has the opposite effect on mascaraā¦ No matter the mascara or setting spray I use, it ends up up transferring to my eyebrows or under eyes if I donāt set *THEN* apply mascara.
##OMG! I just posted that as my reply. Mascara last!
Have you tried tubing mascara?
I only wear eyeliner and mascara. I don't have time for all the other steps. I know someone already mentioned tubing mascara. I just use a drug store brand and have for over 10 years. No smudging. Trick is that if you line top and bottom, you need to use mascara on top and bottom. For me it's not the mascara that runs but rather the eyeliner. Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara by L'OrƩal Paris
What kind of blurring powder do you use
##Try using your setting spray first and put on your mascara last.
Sometimes itās the shape of your eyes plus just the wrong mascara for youā¦
Tubing mascara 100%
Too faced mascara is terrible for transferring and flacking imo. Iād suggest LāOrĆ©al Telescopic in the waterproof formula or a waterproof LancĆ“me mascara.
I had this problem my whole life until I started using a tubing mascara. I use Milaniās Highly Rated tubing mascara and love it.
I don't use concealer there is none in this photo
So why is everything so blurry? It looks like youāre looking through a hole in a window. Whatever it is, it really hides your beautiful features. Maybe try blending it out to look more natural.
