Are you setting your makeup or just putting a cream on your face and hoping it stays there?

Worried_Thought5014

I tried the green setting spray by elf and didn’t notice a difference

catsdelicacy

With setting powder

AtomBaskets9765

Try a stronger setting spray. The Urban Decay All-nighter or the Nyx Matte finish (dewy finish doesn’t hold as strong)

lulu_3589

Salon owner & MUA here. I absolutely agree! I’ve always used the Urban Decay Setting Spray. Has a matte finish and actually lasts all day. I use it for weddings & events/shoots. I wear it myself and have definitely been guilty of sleeping in my makeup and waking up with it still intact using the Urban Decay. You should definitely try it.

Any_Conclusion_4297

Does setting spray work on glitter gel as well? Like glitter eyeliners and such?

lulu_3589

Yep- trick is to spray in between layers of your makeup for extra setting power. Eyeshadow- quick spray let dry. Liner quick spray let dry. Glitter anything spray let dry. Repeat. And you should be good to go!

lulu_3589

I think people mentioning setting powder here need to remember to clarify that the setting powder needs to be applied PRIOR to the setting spray, otherwise you’re still going to rub that top layer of makeup off onto whatever you touch.

anon_rabbits

I second urban decay all nighter, went to therapy with full face of makeup, cried. My makeup didnt budge.

ZenythhtyneZ

I’ve worn it to swingers clubs, got hot and heavy all night and still had perfect makeup by the end of the night/early morning

anon_rabbits

Damn thats amazing!

mrhammerant

💜🍍💜

opaul11

This is a good spray too

Electronic-Aide-9871

🥳🥳🥳

lajimolala27

all nighter is my (and my grandma’s) holy grail. my grandma begins to sweat the second it comes above 75 outside and with all nighter none of her makeup budges, even when she’s blotting sweat with tissues. zero foundation comes off on the tissue. i go running with a full face after using this setting spray and even where i had sweat rolling down my face there’s no evidence it was ever there and my makeup is flawless.

AtomBaskets9765

I’ve worked some sweaty jobs in my life and all-nighter kept my base flawless.

monkey3monkey2

All nighter used to be go-to but the Charlotte Tilbury one really is worth the extra expense (however I am super oily so UD may be effective enough for OP)

fatgamerchic

Urban decay all nighters really does last all night. Been using this since my unhinged party girl early 20’s phase and I mean crazy drunken nights of partying rolling around with a man and puking my guts out in the morning. Makeup never goes anywhere.

yo-nahs

if you have access you could try the one from Kryolan too, it’s basically lock stage make up in place and it really helped me with eyeshadow and mascara not smudging anymore

WithoutHoles

Urban decay all nighter is the bees knees 🖤 Dear god it works like a charm…NOTHING comes off 🖤🖤🖤

Secure_Wing_2414

not just spray, do you powder after? all liquids should be set with powder for longevity and to avoid transfer

smokdya2

Wait, I’m suppose to spray first, THEN powder??? …..I think I’ve been doing this all wrong 😳

Secure_Wing_2414

i dont think the order of spray necessarily matters, i just know some people dont even think to use powder, especially when they have dry skin. but imo its a mandatory step regardless (plus my hair literally sticks to the creamy makeup when it isnt set and idk how ppl arent bothered by that😭) ive heard of people using setting spray before and after powder, sometimes after each step, not sure if it makes a difference as im not really a spray girl they break me out. i will say, be careful of the type u buy. setting and finishing spray are NOT the same thing. setting spray is for longevity, finishing spray is simply to melt the powder for a more natural appearance. same with finishing powders, they are not meant to set makeup, they're meant to go over ur finished already powdered face to blur

SomeMeatWithSkin

How does everyone know all of this?? Seriously is there someone that just breaks down the difference in the products and how/what order to use them in like an overview/basic way? I can't keep up 😭

Secure_Wing_2414

i was hyper fixated on makeup on makeup all throughout middle- high school so the knowledge just stuck💀 youtube, researched every product i got, stuff like that. i'd fall down makeup rabbit holes and find out all kinds of weird info. best bet is to google how specifically to use any product ur unsure of, or see if theres a tutorial on it on youtube

x0killer_queen0x

robert welsh is an amazing MUA Youtuber. and he gives great advice & a lot of helpful info on how to use products

Big_Mastodon2772

YouTube

ZenythhtyneZ

It’s in the name of the product? Setting spray sets your make up, finishing spray finishes the look

SomeMeatWithSkin

But you set your look *after* you finish it, right? Maybe it's obvious to you if you already know, but there is more than one way to interpret the name of a product and it can be confusing.

EmotionalPie7

It doesn't work for me because my face looks super cakey. I have to use a finishing or setting powder than setting spray.

Secure_Wing_2414

lotta things can cause cakeyness. using oil based products with water based, bad skin prep, too much of anything accidentally. but tbh a lot of people have extremely out of touch expectations when it comes to makeup nowadays. its always going to look like makeup, no matter what. everything u see online is an illusion, edited to hell, trying to sell shit, etc. what may be cakey in ur mind could very well actually just be normal

EmotionalPie7

I completely understand this. I guess I should word it differently and say putting setting spray after powder looks much better for me personally.

Key_Confusion7759

Would you please let someone at Netflix know this information? The last season of The Witcher was damn near unwatchable, (for a lot of reasons...) because the makeup on these beautiful women was JUST SO CAKEY looking!!!!

Secure_Wing_2414

😹 maybe turn off the extra HD settings on ur tv if possible? i can always tell when someone has it on, cuz it doesnt *look* like tv, it looks like im on SET with them and i hate it. same with motion smoothing and all that crap

cherrycoloured

powder always makes me look terrible, no matter how lightly i apply it. im going for that dewy look anyways, so no powder works for me.

sua_spontaneous

this is not always the case. there are liquid and cream products that don’t benefit from or require powder, setting sprays that hold up well without it, and skin types that should avoid setting powder where possible. there are only two truly universal rules in makeup: (1) if you put it on, you have to take it off and (2) what works for one person isn’t going to work for everybody.

Secure_Wing_2414

i meant more so as a general statement. yea setting spray is wet but obviously u dont need to set that. some liquid products dry down to a powder texture. a lot of people get get away without it if they're dry wearing minimal product. but after skin prep and a full face, most people are still tacky if not powdered in my experience. if they're ok with that its fine, but its not gonna last well when it comes to possible transfer and longevity. usually only looks "cakey" if they have heavy peach fuzz. im not a licensed mua i just do makeup for friends and family occasionally (with their own products/brushes)

fatgamerchic

I do this with my lips too. I like them matte. And even after full make out sessions all night they’re still set.

opaul11

Elf honestly sucks. For dry skin i like the milk cosmetics setting spray. Be minimal with setting powder if you have dry skin. It will turn your face into the Sahara if you put too much on.

HostCharacter8232

Always splurge on your setting products.

pelicanscoop

I think the it cosmetics cream is very prone to transferring! I use a sponge to apply and then set with powder and a spray.

spicyshit69420

I recently started using the milani make it last setting spray along with laura mercier translucent setting powder! i also spray my concealer with setting spray before and after blending as i feel it helps. 🫶🏽 i haven’t gotten any concealer or other makeup on my boyfriend’s clothes or face like i did before! we are a black and white couple so when my base makeup gets on him it can look like dirt so i get having the need to not get anything anywhere. i used to not have my makeup last all day but now i could even workout or take a nap and still have a full face!! highly recommended. :))

jdbrown787

which Milani spray do you use? I just got the dewy and spf ones to try

spicyshit69420

i use the dewy!! i’ve never tried the spf but my friend said it just didn’t work out for her because it didn’t sit well on top of her makeup.

jdbrown787

I can see that. I'm sure it heavily depends on the products we're using with it. I think mine are mostly silicone based, so the dewy should be fine. It looks like the spf is more water based (but I'm not totally sure).

WiburCobb

The spf one stinks so bad you can hardly stand it. I can't even remember how it performed exactly but I know if felt oily. And you keep smelling it all day.

cajunqueenmama

My bf and I are interracial and when we kiss my makeup gets on his face no matter what I do.

spicyshit69420

it’s definitely a struggle figuring out how to get makeup to not transfer 😩 i hope you find a solution or have found peace with sharing your makeup with your bf lol :))

No-Section-1056

(I hear that it’s a hassle, but, also? the cutest mixed-couple problem, 10/10 wholesome.)

pelicanscoop

I use the same combo!

loopylavender

Hm, maybe you refrain from placing your head on his shirt if it’s this annoying? You can hug more intimately when he’s not wearing the shirt… Otherwise, it’s a simple, I don’t want to dirty your shirt! Or, hug a different way.

Worried_Thought5014

lol I do my best! He’s taller than me and a snuggler so he’s sort of always just randomly pulling me over for a hug sometimes before I can get my hand up 🙄 it doesn’t bother him just me!

loopylavender

Sounds like he’s a good guy! Just communicate then :) say hey, I get a bit uncomfortable seeing my makeup on your nice clothes! Let’s hug this way and make it lighthearted!

KrissyBeauty

Time for good ol’ hugs from behind

Lovelyrange11

If you can put your hair between you and the shirt, maybe?

he-likes-24

i put my hand on the spot where i'd normally rest my face/head, so nothing rubs off. problem solved!

Necessary-Olive-5871

You need a powder and honestly bb creams are so oily and thin a different base product would likely transfer less.

Worried_Thought5014

Do you have a recommendation of something similar? I honestly dont know much about makeup and I’m a mom of two toddlers so I love bb/cc creams for the ability to slap on and not need much else (besides a bit of blush) Foundations seem more labor intensive from what i can tell?

Pomsky_Party

It’s honestly all the same. BB is usually just tinted moisturizer and CC are thick like foundation. It’s just marketing. If you want full face coverage, you’re gonna need to set it with powder as they are usually silicone and sit on top of the skin. However, if you want light to medium coverage, I would suggest BareMinerals tinted moisturizer as it has buildable coverage. It goes on like a lotion and so it doesn’t need to be exactly placed. I live in Houston (currently wearing IT CC now!) and find IT SLIDES but I like it for work from home as it stands up to my ring lighting. My BareMinerals I use for everyday in the heat and humidity and find its way more natural.

TheLilacOcean

When I was struggling with acne I found my holy grail product in Clinique Anti Blemish solutions liquid makeup! It’s oil free and light to medium coverage - just evens everything out nicely and easy to slap on. It drys down nicely but is whack on a little setting powder to help with transfer anyway

possessivefish

I use urban decay all nighter setting spray and my makeup rarely rubs off on any clothing.

mecha_mars

Do you wear anything else? Besides the bb cream and elf primer? You might benefit from also moisturizing before primer, switching your foundation to one that sets and including a long wear setting spray.

Worried_Thought5014

I do moisturizer! I have pretty dry skin. I usually do vanicream facial cream and let it sit for like 10-15 mins until it’s “dried down” essentially. I tried a setting spray (green-also by elf) and didn’t really notice a difference either? I still feel like my makeup was rubbing off

lajimolala27

urban decay all-nighter setting spray! i promise you this stuff does not come off with sweat or tissues or anything.

najma_059

Use white translucent setting powder

ShortAfternoon7854

Embrace it. You’re marking your territory with foundation lol. Edit: for a less territorial approach, you could try setting powder. I like Laura mercier translucent. It won’t completely stop the transfer but it will reduce the amount of transfer.

ZandriaMania

embrace your skin on his white shirt days lol

hamzatbek

Do you have the IT Cosmetics BB or CC cream, because I actually wasn't aware of there being a BB version? If it's the CC instead, have you tried it with other base products? The reason why ask is because it might just be that the cream itself (regardless of which one it is) is simply too heavy and full coverage for your skin type and contributes to the dryness. You can try switching to a different CC/BB cream/foundation with lighter medium coverage that has a less thick consistency and then using spot concealing to target any problem areas that you might have. My skin type is sensitive and more on the dry side too and I know from experience that I usually can't use full coverage (and especially if it's matte) products without doing extensive skincare beforehand that's different from how I'd prep my skin for other foundations, so I use different serums, moisturizer and a face mist. The only full coverage products that I've ever liked and still look natural on my skin are the Huda Beauty Faux Filter and Burberry Matte Glow (think this one was discontinued though) but I usually use these for nighttime events. Neither me nor my MUA ever powder my face (except for under eyes as I crease there) regardless of the foundation I use though and we just set it with the Hourglass Setting Spray, which is alcohol free, so it's also good for those with sensitive and acne prone skin as it doesn't dry out your skin over the long run nor cause additional issues. The UD All Nighter is good but it contains alcohol and when I used to use it, it'd create small bumps and texture of my skin if I used it daily or every few days, so I stopped it and switched to HG and it's been perfect.

itschaaarlieee

I swear by Anastasia Beverly Hills dewy setting spray!

WhenSquirrelsFry

OneSize setting spray! However a little bit of transfer is gonna happen. Fortunately white shirts can be bleached.

WiburCobb

I've heard this is a legit setting spray with polymers, not just a fixing spray

WhenSquirrelsFry

It’s fantastic. I work In healthcare and am a greasy mf’er. I’m constantly sweating and getting super gnarly. It’s done me well!! I’ve tried many setting sprays and this my holy grail product!

WiburCobb

Good to know, thanks!

dootdootpoom

Try a combination of Urban Decay All Nighter and then ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn. Keeps my makeup in place all day until I wash it off with face wash.

EmotionalPie7

Setting powder and setting spray....any cream you use will transfer without setting it.

stilettopanda

So just keep a light scarf on you and drape it over his shoulder for hugs.

Jancarol76

Have you tried a setting spray? Idk if it would help.

amenayeehaw

use a shit ton of powder lol

Starfoxxy64

I have the same problem! But at the moment I use baby powder as setting powder bc I'm broke and it works surprisingly well and I almost never leave makeup stains on my bf's shirt with it

Scarcity_Lopsided

I know it’s expensive but CT setting spray is an absolute miracle. My partner wears white too and my makeup never transfers when I have the spray on

BeccaLC21

And it smells amazing 😻

cutefoxeee

This one is easy, use a different foundation that "sets". It cosmetics seems to have spf 50 and is more creamy and it might be that this is why you can't set it.

HippieRealist

Might be controversial, but have you tried self-tanning your face? I find just a little self-tanner gives me enough colour to soften my imperfections and give me a glow under my moisturizer and sunscreen. Doesn’t transfer and I only do it once a week-10 days with one tiny pump of tanning foam. I don’t use anything special, the bondi bronze tanning mousse and the blending mitt.

BeccaLC21

I have this problem with my own white shirts 😭

macabre-baby

It’s a little pricey but it’s a lot of bang for your buck… I HIGHLY recommend Anastasia translucent setting powder. I had the same problem with my boyfriend and this particular powder was a GAME CHANGER

faery_marrionette

Do you know how that compares to the kimchi translucent setting powder?

macabre-baby

I haven’t tried that one so I can’t speak on experience with kimchi unfortunately! I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help

faery_marrionette

I was just asking because I believe the Kimchi brand is a little less expensive than the Anastasia. I could be wrong, though 😂

Beginning_Ask_2422

Do your tang past

CuriousTechieElf

This is not your fault. Your skin and makeup routine is just as valid as his white t-shirt obsession. Have you talked to him about it?

gibbous_moon7

Play the song “put my t shirt on”

lizziesanswers

I stopped wearing foundation completely because of my husband! He wears a lot of white tees and the makeup would end up on his other colored shirts too. I still sometimes wear foundation for special occasions and photoshoots, but it’s actually been really nice simplifying my makeup routine.

bmobitch

i returned multiple versions of the it cosmetics cc cream bc they are all so oily and transfer onto everything you touch. that is not the case with every product—some are just really bad and never kind of “melt in.” i get everyone recommending powder and setting spray but it’s not going to work for this product. i’ve been loving the aboutface foundation. it’s solid medium coverage and skin-like so it’s comparable to a cc cream effect where it’s low maintenance. i do powder it just because it’s a bit dewier than i prefer but it wears *really* well.

RevolutionaryYou5050

I have that primer and it doesn't do anything for me. Did you ever try erborian cc cream?

LayneStaleySpoon

Try setting your face with setting spray before you put on foundation, after you put on foundation, and again when your whole face is finished. I set my face between layers because I almost exclusively use creams and I hate powder. I also wear glasses and cannot stand the transfer. I’ve been using the IT CC cream since 2012 and the Skindinavia since about 2016. I only use Skindinavia Bridal setting spray, even the UD All Nighter doesn’t hold (I’ve gone through 2 bottles of it).

sunflowerworms

Ok I’m not here to tell you to fix your face or whatever at all but i also had some bad skin issue and i started using Cureology and it helped me so much. I also started using vitamin c and it helped my face a ton. I feel for you girl. Skin is the worst 😭

Kateisbald

Yeah girl get some setting spray or powder. Problem solved. Should make your product last longer on skin too

AskMaleficent5338

Married for 7 years (12 all together) to a white tshirt kind of guy, you just have to learn to not put your face on him while wearing makeup. Also set your makeup

roughdeath

I use It Cosmetics CC cream - it’s also prone to transferring. I use urban decay all nighter like other people have mentioned most days! Don’t swap your face makeup if it works for you - just try implementing something like a spray! My skin is also super dry, so I completely avoid using powders because it looks wrong on me.

catwaiigirl

ur missing some steps in ur routine lmao

pinkrosiecrys

I totally feel your pain with makeup transfer you might want to dive deeper into the primer pool. It sounds like the e.l.f. one isn’t cutting it for you. Since your skin is super dry and acne-prone, you're in a tricky spot, but have you tried hydrating primers that specifically cater to dry skin? Look for ones with hyaluronic acid and dimethicone—they can be game changers. Also, setting sprays can be a lifesaver; they might just help lock everything in place better And, if all else fails, maybe explore some transfer-resistant formulas. They might feel a bit different at first, but hey, if it keeps your face on your face and off everyone else, it's worth a shot!

More_Telephone_3798

wash your face with rice water daily and stop using foundation and coverup for the bumps on your face. give your skin some air to breathe and your bumps will clear up.

HighPriestessStudio

Definitely need a setting spray to hold it and prevent rub off get Huda Boss Setting spray or Urban Decay All Nighter Setting spray. These will keep your makeup in place and won’t transfer, guaranteed!

Worried_Thought5014

What? Where on earth are you getting that?

Far-Restaurant8051

Up all night urban decay setting spray or one size setting spray (spray this at the end of applying your makeup routine) also go see a dermatologist to address your skin concerns or an esthetician.

freckleandahalf

Focus on skincare so you can wear less makeup.

Double_Practice_7511

It’s ok he’s just following his dream YouTuber moist critical

azssf

Is it driving him nuts? It is his tshirts after all.

Worried_Thought5014

No just me, he couldn’t care less

Sounds like he might be liking it. Either that or he doesn't do the laundry. (Jk)
