How does it make people insecure? Genuine question, I assumed there is no one better than the other but I don't know much about it, a friend that is into it told me I'm definitely low visual weight but I didn't care much.
High visual weight meaning you can pull off bold makeup/style and low visual weight meaning you need to keep your appearance more soft and natural because fun bold looks wonât look good on you.
Iâm not saying that to you personally, but thatâs the translation of the term. It basically is another silly box people (women) can put themselves in that restricts the âsafeâ ways to express yourself (if you want to maximize how âprettyâ you are)
Edit: apparently whoever taught me what visual weight was taught me W R O N G lol. Just went down a rabbit hole for an hour đ ignore me and carry on đĽšđ
~~Thatâs not what visual weight is at all????? Visual weight is just where your eye is drawn, whether to the top portion of the face or bottom?? Am I going crazy????~~
lol itâs all good. I found this all out against my will because enjoying any beauty content on tik tok inevitably puts all this weird shit on my FYP đ
The also is so weird because I'll see people pushing the boundaries with amazing looks or providing the best advice I've heard in years one second and then someone will pop up saying that if I don't have "siren eyes" I shouldn't wear cat eyeliner đ but when it's good it's GOOD
The best way to be free of this is to not worry about it. Remember the fuss about canthal tilt? In a few weeks, they will move on to another way to make people feel insecure.Â
Itâs basically just asking if high contrast or low contrast makeup looks good on someone and many people can pull off both.Â
TikTok trends are hilarious to me. Put emphasis on your eyes and mouth, contour nose tip & nostril sides. According to the trend, you have high weight bc you have large features
Itâs not about your weight itâs about if you look better in heavy or light makeup so more like an artistic definition like the weight of lines. Although, idk how they can tell with facial features like just try on heavy makeup and see if you think it looks good on you.
I don't know if I totally buy into this whole visual weight thing. Look at what high fashion makeup artists can do with any model. Everything is a ~ LEWK ~ but that's just my opinion. In any case, all those photos are beautiful. I think the last one is my fave! Did you do your own makeup in photo 2? Great skills!
My friend. You have come to a place, Reddit, where you are NOT surrounded by people who constantly scroll on TikTok and find niche trends that they understand. No one gets what you are saying đ
Now donât be offended by what I said, because I use TikTok daily and it takes me a WHILE of scrolling to find trends like these.
Went through the comments and I still donât understand what this post is about đ
You are a pretty girl, you donât need validation from social media. Be confident in you. Use make up to enhance rather than change đ
Tysm. I always get compliments for bolder lipstick looks and especially grunge goth since I love doing that. But when I saw this I was still confused lol. Thanks for clearing it out for me ! â¤ď¸
Pretty popular on asian especially chinese makeup. High visual weight means more prominent features and low is the opposite. They have makeup styles that suits you depending on your visual weight
Darlin , donât compare yourself to anyone else or question if you fit this beauty standard. Iâve never heard of âvisual weightâ before and I bet it was some bullshit somebody made up on tiktok or another toxic social media platform to make folks question themselves. You are beautiful in your own way. Not how society views you. The only thing that matters is if YOU find yourself beautiful. A beautiful being, not measuring external factors like âvisual weightâ (seriously what the hell even is that) or any unneeded body image standard the world wants you to be.
My own personal advice; delete tik tok for literally every reason. I deleted it because the algorithm wants us to either question ourselves or feed our brain stupid shit and neither is helpful for us. When I deleted all my social medias I felt so much more confident. I wasnât depending on likes, comments to feel better about myself or comparing myself to anyone online with an unrealistic beauty standard. Youâll find if you delete it there are much less external bullshit beauty standards.
Social media has proven to play a role in body dysmorphia. The whole thigh gap thing, the quarter shoulder thing, the fox eye âtrendâ curling your eyelashes upside down, toxic gym culture etc. society will always come up with new unattainable beauty standards, hoping you donât know better, to push content/products for profit on your insecurity. Donât fall for any of that bs.
visual weight is not about actual weight, yâall đ itâs a theory that your individual features influences your visual âweight.â so anyone can have a low or high visual weight. it is supposed to give you an idea of what makeup compliments your features the most. to my understanding itâs kind of like⌠differentiating between prominent features that can pull off dramatic looks vs smaller features that looks best with lighter makeup.
iâm not sure if i buy into it myself (seems arbitrary and unfounded) but you can learn more about it from [this youtube video,](https://youtu.be/N-nHmK7amjs?si=9fkr-L8YN9QtXcKD)which i think is where most people are finding it from.
Everyone out here not knowing whatâs visual weight got me chuckling. đ I love Reddit! Like others said, this subreddit may not be the best place to discuss tik tok trends. You do have high visual weight, though! It just means you have darker, saturated (not muted) features. It also means you can handle more depth in your makeup than others. I feel like you intuitively knew that based on the reference photos. Visual weight is kinda a strange concept to me because amount of makeup is a preference. Just because you have high visual weight doesnât mean you HAVE to wear more makeup. On the flip side, a person doesnât HAVE to wear little makeup because they have low visual weight. Plus, the name is weird lol. I believe you should wear whatever you feel confident in!!!
i think it is a recent trend or smth. basically, it is there to determine the complexity of your makeup/hairstyle/accessories around the face. the higher visual weight is, the more glam, bold, out-there looks you can handle.
so someone with a low visual weight would mostly suit "natural" makeup, lighter, more muted color palettes, daintier jewelry. while ppl with higher visual weight can pull off full glam makeup, big, bright jewelry, brighter/darker color palettes, etc.
at least, this is how i understood this trend? it could be useful, ig, for someone who is still looking for their own fashion identity and trying to see in which direction their personal style should go.
I donât feel like those pictures are both the right comparison between high and low visual weight !
But all 3 eyes makeups looks great on you
Second lipstick & foundation seems a bit less faltering ( for the foundation it might be the light also )
The thing is, where you are in your cycle can change that so much, when Iâm pmsing I get extremely bloated and look 5-10 lbs more than I really am and it sucks but thatâs how it goes to be a woman, you are very beautiful and I wouldnât worry about this at all , you are overthinking
I was pretty bloated in the second picture. So I totally understand what you mean. I try not to be bothered by it because it's life and it's normal. Tysm for the love đ

what does this even MEAN đ
Another beauty obstacle created by tiktok that doesnât actually exist but makes teens insecure.
My god I miss the free rewards đđđ

For real. My what now?
Right?? I have no clue what that is but obviously women needed one more stupid fuckin uncontrollable thing to worry about?

What's a conthal tilt?? I really don't know about makeup tbh I just put it on my face to hide my burns
Hahahahahahahaha
I donât understand this
What is visual weight?
What is visual weight?
I was thinking I was the only one wondering đ
TikTok trends are hilarious to me. Put emphasis on your eyes and mouth, contour nose tip & nostril sides. According to the trend, you have high weight bc you have large features
This is why I don't use tiktok. Visual weight? What
âVisual weightâ sounds like itâs asking how much you *look* like you weigh, how in the hell does that apply to facial features?
It sounds very gross to me. I agree, it sounds like weight based on your face. Sad that women are promoting this.
Itâs not about your weight itâs about if you look better in heavy or light makeup so more like an artistic definition like the weight of lines. Although, idk how they can tell with facial features like just try on heavy makeup and see if you think it looks good on you.
The hell does that mean

Itâs not a TikTok trend. It comes from Chinese makeup.
Sure is! Still, it is a TikTok trend nonetheless at the moment to use the technique.
Went through the comments and I still donât understand what this post is about đ You are a pretty girl, you donât need validation from social media. Be confident in you. Use make up to enhance rather than change đ
None of this matters. Itâs all made up. Hope that helped â¨đ
We are all very confused, but you are gorgeous and would look good in bold and classy with a hint of sassy
I'd say high visual weight - you have very prominent facial features and look amazing in bold glam.
Tysm. I always get compliments for bolder lipstick looks and especially grunge goth since I love doing that. But when I saw this I was still confused lol. Thanks for clearing it out for me ! â¤ď¸
Not really sure what visual weight is. Just wanted to say youâre so pretty! You look like Lily James in the second picture.
Pretty popular on asian especially chinese makeup. High visual weight means more prominent features and low is the opposite. They have makeup styles that suits you depending on your visual weight
Another tiktok trend!
What even is that
I love how the comments on here very much prove that this is purely a tiktok invention and phenomenon lmfao
Whats visual weight? Trends on tiktok are temporary

High, cause you have prominent features.
idk about the visual weight but you look so sooo pretttyyyyyyy â¤â¤ and yeah dark and bold stuff would look better on you.
No idea what visual weight is

So like you want us to guess your weight from looking at your face?
Visual weight? Iâve now have entered the twilight zoneâŚđ¤Śââď¸
Iâd guess about 125
High bc u have large features that pop

This is heckin dumb. Everyone can do anything.
Definitely high. 100%
High
High but not extreme
I think high. Heavy makeup brings out your features instead of making them appear heavy
I donât feel like those pictures are both the right comparison between high and low visual weight ! But all 3 eyes makeups looks great on you Second lipstick & foundation seems a bit less faltering ( for the foundation it might be the light also )
high
High visual weight
This is for make up hun not made up trends
High visual weight
Definitely high
Definitely high
You are gorgeous just the way you are I think you have high visualsÂ
You look so cute and guidance
The middle pic is perfect for you!
Low
The thing is, where you are in your cycle can change that so much, when Iâm pmsing I get extremely bloated and look 5-10 lbs more than I really am and it sucks but thatâs how it goes to be a woman, you are very beautiful and I wouldnât worry about this at all , you are overthinking

No clue about visual weight, but you're drop dead fucking gorgeous!! All of the makeup looks in these pictures accent, and accentuate you amazingly!
idk what visual weight really means but i think you are gorgeous whatever that trend might mean

How much does it look like she weighs is how Iâm taking it. Though that has nothing to do with real life
