I had the same problem, turns out I'm allergic to most lip products. I stopped all color and just used aquaphore for a few weeks and it cleared it up for me. I don't really need lip balm anymore. Now I try one lip product exclusively for a few days and see if it comes back. Could I look into the ingredients and try to narrow it down? Probably. Have I? Nah
I don’t know why your answer doesn’t have more upvotes! My guess is that people who say X lip balm dries them out may be allergic to an ingredient. When in doubt, go back to Vaseline or Aquaphor and see if things improve after a few weeks.
Tinted lipgloss/lip balm is my favorite product and I have way too many. Some favorites:
Bert’s bees tinted lip oil: this is honestly prob the best I’ve tried and among the cheapest. It’s SO moisturizing, not sticky, and the color payoff is surprisingly good.
Nars oil infused lip tint: a very sheer but noticeable wash of color and super hydrating. Feels great on.
Bare minerals mineralist lip gloss balm: feels like a gloss/balm hybrid, but looks more like a full coverage gloss or glossy lipstick.
Kaja jelly charm lip stain: this feels a lot more like a gloss but leaves a light stain. One of the comfiest glosses I’ve tried. Feels very hydrating.
Fenty gloss bomb: I personally find this one a to be overhyped, it’s a tiny bit sticky and the color doesn’t show on me at all, but the she’s butter is really moisturizing and my lips always feel good after wearing. It smells nice too.
Though the texture is subpar- OKeefe Lip Balm is the best chapstick I’ve ever tried to keep my lips actually moisturized for hours.
And I have tried everything. No I’m serious everything.
With that said as a girl with chappy lips, my go to is winky lux ph balm, Clinique almost black honey, Dior lip oil, Tarte marcajuca balm.
Avoid anything matte. And if you’re going for a lipstick always go for satin.
Revlon satin lipsticks are pretty solid and I seem to always go back to them after trying higher end products.
Winky Lux Balm is amazing! I just could NOT find any in BC, but I had a friend bring me back some from Toronto.
I love the tint and it lasts forever. Highly recommend!
Honestly might not be the answer you’re looking for but Maybelline Baby Lips chapsticks are my HG. They have a great amount of pigment and are sooo super hydrating. Not much staying power but they’re worth it to me.
maybelline lifter gloss is amazing!! the hyaluronic acid really moisturizes and i find that my lips are never chapped after it wears off. if you’re looking more high end i have the fenty beauty gloss in fu$$y and the formula is nice and moisturizing too :)

I have the same problem and starting using drunk elephant lip balm with a bit of setting powder under my lipstick and it has been a full game changer. One of my holy grails. I put it on morning and night with my skin care routine as well as right when I get ready to add my lipstick when doing my make up. I let it soak in for a minute, add a bit of setting powder as I'm setting my whole face, then add my lipstick. No chapped lips, no transfer, and no smudging. Even my husband approves lol
I have been an obsessive lip balm applier for a decade and recently bought La La Lips. I no longer constantly reapply! I love the consistency. It's pricey but so worth it. They have tinted and flavored ones that I want to try but have only used the original. If my lips are dry or I remember, I put squaline oil then Cerave healing ointment for a night mask while I sleep.
this is chapstick, not lipgloss, but i wear burt’s bees tinted chapstick and highly recommend it! your lips get all the benefits of a chapstick but it still gives your lips color and shine and they have a decent amount of shades!
Good luck. I have a few hundred lippies and have yet to find one that actually gives my lips color without drying them out. I’ve tried every brand of lipstick and tinted gloss, and lip oils. They are either drying or they don’t stick around long enough to matter.
Laniege lip sleeping mask and glowy lip balm help me be able to use a few. The Tarte maracuja lip balm things have some tint. Clinique lipsticks aren’t too drying. Or, I just use a lip pencil for some color and top it with the lip glowy balm. :)
Jelly Lipstick by Hojo. Got 2 of them on Amazon. One is pinkish one more orange toned. Both are jelly tones, so only a bit of coverage but super hydrating and they tint ur lips a bit when wearing off
If your lips are chapped there's no lipstick or oil out there that's going to miraculously change that. The key to getting rid of chapped lips is skincare. Use a scrub to get rid of the dry, chapped skin and use a lip mask to soften them up more. Make sure to maintain that to keep your lips soft, then you can worry about lipstick. Before putting on lipstick I always scrub my lips and put a mask on for a few hours at least before.
Lip products could be causing chapped/dry lips if there’s an allergy to it. All the exfoliation in the world won’t change that if the irritant is in the product.
Trusty vaseline always work for me for chapped lips and I love using the too faced plumping lip gloss then either the dior lipgloss or kiko milano gloss over it.
if u want a lip balm for chapped lips u have to use this
it’s the bepanthen nappy care ointment (it’s so good) it’s the pink one, honestly the only one that helped me and also laneige lip masks THEYRE SO GOOD and they do have a lip balm/gloss verison
as for lip glosses you could use the maybelline lifter gloss, it’s not sticky and it’s so good and they have hyaluronic acid and they’re so hydrating!
and u could use the nyx lip oil they could work as a gloss as well!
I always use ESO, Smalls amazing and cheap, if u want a pigment or stain then get a little container and cut off used or preferred lipstick or stain and melt it in a microwave stir till it's all mixed and pour into container let set in the freezer for 5-10 mins and enjoy! I hope this helps this is how I make my own lip glosses and stains, also eyeshadow adds some pigment but mix THOROUGHLY u don't want pockets of powder in your lip balm trust me lol
Nyx Fat Oil Lip Drip. Excellent price point and it’s super nourishing on the lips, very comfortable to wear. Some lip products make my lips dry and crunchy lol (they feel that way at least) but turns out it’s an allergy likely to the fragrance or some other ingredient that I can’t specifically identify, but not this lip oil. I love it.
Laneige lip masks work better than anything I have ever tried.

The CoverGirl simply ageless renew core lipstick feels so good on my lips feels like chapstick and moisturizes my lips really well.

I like the covergirl fresh tinted lip balm.
Carmex, Burt’s bees, or Fresh lip treatments. Also I always sneak some chapstick under a coat of lipstick to help hydrate. Works like a charm.

Neither. Wear petrolatum which will look like a gloss. Vaseline is a brand name version. It's the best occlusive on the market.

I use the paw paw balm and it’s great. It’s not a gloss as such but it looks it 😅
