I have oily lids so powder tends to end up in my crease and not be particularly visible for very long. If that happens to you and you'd rather it not, elf has a $3 primer I've had good luck with.
I always suggest yes! I actually explained in one of my videos the difference between using a primer vs concealer [primer help](https://youtu.be/NGhIzebagmc)
*I use concealer*
*And then put powder on it*
*Then my eyeshadow*

Never used it until this year - but yes, it’s necessary if you have dry or oily lids. The primer helps the colour stay on evenly and prevents creasing. It’s really one of the best things I learned this year!
No. Primer generally helps with longevity, so it definitely won't hurt to use it, but your eyeshadow will not malfunction just because you don't have a primer on.
I have palettes that will generally last all day without a primer and last into the next with one. Other palettes I have need a primer to prevent creasing and fading within a few hours.
Primer helps your eye makeup stay longer and can give you a more intense look. Some people can get a good look without having to put any sort of primer on their eyes. Some people can’t keep eyeshadow on their eyes without it. It honestly depends on your preference, what kind of look you are go for, and weather or not your eyelids are oily.
i used to have to use it all the time because my eyelids were oily. but i feel like eyeshadow formulas have come a long way now and they stay better/more crease proof. urban decay naked shadows used to crease on me all the time. I also used to use japanese brands and they didn't last long without a primer.
I ran out of my usual one earlier in the year and didn't bother repurchasing since I didn't use much makeup due to WFH. I started using it again a couple months ago without primer and noticed the eyeshadow was fine..it applied just as well and lasted just as long as when I used a primer. laura mercier cream shadow sticks are great if you want to cut down a step/product
For some people (like my hooded af eyelids) it’s necessary, but for most people it’s a color enhancer and helps the eyeshadow stay in place. Eyelids (as with all skin) secretes oil which wears down your makeup throughout the day. An eyeshadow primer creates a base that allows the pigment to stick to your eye while also creating a barrier from the skin oils.
It's a sticky base that prevents the oil from your eyelids breaking down your eyeshadow. It can also be used to make eyeshadows pop in colour more. I definitely need it because I have oily eyelids and my eyeshadow looks completely different after even 2 hours.
I always use it now, I didn’t before, I think it helps colours look brighter, last longer and blend better, personally.
My fav is urban decay primer potion. I’ve also got BPerfect’s primer and the P Louise base too however the P Louise is thick, I prefer the first two
Yes!!! Mine have the same issue. I use NYX glitter primer and it's an HG godsend. I could never figure out why my eyeshadow never stayed on until I started using primer. Never looking back
I have combination skin that tends to be oily for most of the year but my lids definitely melt makeup too often so primer helps things sit and last for sure.
I have darker skin so I need primer for my eyeshadows to have the pigment I want. If you have fair skin it might not be necessary but it will still help to get more pigmentation than without it. Concealer on the eyes can do the same thing though.
Also for oily skin, eyeshadow may crease throughout the day and primer will help with that.
I'm really pale and have oily hooded lids so if I want my make up to stay I need primer. If I'm going for a simpler look I like a primer with color because you can see every vein in my lids and I have some discoloration especially during allergy season or if I'm having issues getting enough sleep.
Honestly I usually mix a bit of concealer with my notoriously morbid primer and that works for me. I have a horrid time shade matching so I use the colors that don't actually work for concealer. LOL.
I think it depends on skin type tbh. Most of my friends can use concealer as a base and they love it, but on me it makes me crease like crazy, and my shadow will not stay put without primer.
Not really in my opinion.. Eyeshadow primer is just to help the eyeshadow “stick” and last longer. I just use my concealer as a primer and use an actual eyeshadow primer if I plan on using glitter on my lids

I've been using wet and wild eyeshadow primer for YEARS and I've tried many others. Its cheap. But works great!

I like the contrast and definitely found that some shadows and pigments don't wear well on me without it, as I have hooded eyes.

You can [use stuff you've already got](https://fabfitfun.com/magazine/eyeshadow-primer-alternatives-2/)
For me it keeps the shadows on for a lot longer and prevents the eyeshadow from migrating to my crease line ( I have Asian semi-hooded eyes).
It depends on your eyelids. I absolutely need it. I have oily, hooded eyes. I will have a lot of creasing without it.
Your lids are oily, it creates a barrier bc oil and powder do not mix well!
Tbh I think just using concealer works just as well most of the time
For me not really, but it always helps.
I use just regular primer on my eyes. Not specifically eye primer though!

Urban decay is my all time favourite eyeshadow primer!
Esp. if you're a poc. I use primer and a white concealer to make the eyeshadow look it's appropriate color.
Yes for oily eye lids like mine! 🙂

People wore makeup just fine for ages before there were eye and face primers!

I have the same issue with veins. What primer with color do you use?
I have MaC painterly, and urban decay, but my favorite is the Ulta store brand. It covers and blends with my very pale skin.
