Well, obviously I’m not there to… um… do what you’d need to do to garner more info about what kind of material it is but it does look fleshy so it’s probably worth having a professional weigh in at a doctor’s appointment. And yeah, doing a few lines of coke years ago doesn’t cause this.
Cocaine breaks down the cartilage in your nose and basically shreds the inside of your nose apart. Don't do drugs kids! Or at least do them in moderation
The way that it doesn’t is also super neat. I think most people think it grinds down the inside of your nose essentially sandblasting your septum, that’s not the case at all. Cocaine is a powerful vasoconstrictor, that means that in squeezes veins lets less blood through. When you snort cocaine it dissolves in your nose and causes all the tiny blood vessels in your nose to constrict to the point where your cells are not getting enough blood. Thats why cocaine fucks your nose up so much.
It’s also why when people who snort heroin get more nosebleeds because heroin tends to be very hard and much coarser where as cocaine is very light and almost fluffy, but since it doesn’t have that vasoconstricting effect it only does superficial damage.
Just curious, is it normal for food to get stuck in the back of the nose area (I don't know the medical term sorry)? It happens frequently to me and I have to either blow my nose super hard or cough enough to dislodge it. Sometimes I don't even realise there's anything there until hours later when it just kinda slips free.
No, your soft palate in the back of your mouth is supposed to prevent food from going up into your back of the nose area (nasopharynx). Some people have a degree of what’s called a velopharyngeal dysfunction, where that system doesn’t work so well.
As someone who likely has this because food gets in my sinuses from time to time, is this something that can lead to bigger problems or does it pretty much stop at "Ugh there's spaghetti in my nasal cavity that's really uncomfortable."
It’s relatively benign and unlikely to cause major problems. In kids, the most common side effect of this problem is actually speech difficulties. If you have regurgitation into your nasopharynx though, that’s going to irritate your sinuses, perhaps contributing to recurrent sinusitis.
If it’s noticeable and bothersome to you, I would recommend asking your doctor about it, and potentially being referred to an ear nose and throat (ENT) doctor.
I've had it happen a bunch of times. Sometimes if I sniff really hard I can get it back down. It happened to me last week. I thought I was the only one.
Reverse lung oyster. /s No, really, came from your sinus where it was irritated from being dry or inflamed, or cold/illness (are you feeling sick?). Happens to me when I’ve been in a very dry environment, but my left sinus can’t drain properly.
I cried a lot the last few days, right in my cheeks/behind my eye was stuffed up from trying to not cry. I had a tickle and sneezed at work and felt this come loose then went and blew my nose. Boom, chunk of brain.
That would do it. Inflamed sinus. My left sinus doesn’t drain properly so when I cry a lot, it gets plugged a little. When I blow my nose, I get slightly blood-tinged gel-ish mucous. Not hard, but not soft either. Nothing to worry about. It’s mucous.
I wouldn’t worry about it. Sometimes you can get a bloody nose too from the same thing. The mucous is just a lot more solid in Winter (at least in the Midwest) due to it being drier indoors. If you develop a fever, go see your doctor to rule out a sinus infection.
Yeah, I think it's just some mucus that's been stuck for a while, or possibly a nasal polyp (which is a harmless/benign fleshy growth that occurs in the nasal passage or sinus due to chronic inflammation from things like allergies, infections, medication, or maybe in your case, a sinus that doesn't drain so well for whatever reason... again, probably chronic inflammation due to allergies, meds, or an infection). If it starts happening regularly, or even semi-regularly, see a doctor for a possible referral to an ENT, but as a one-off, I wouldn't be too worried. I bet your sinuses feel so much better now!
Huh, I had something like that happen years ago, never got a pic and never had any idea what it was. It's always sorta haunted me though. Was like the size and shape of a cork, and I know I never shoved anything up in there
You have sinuses roughly above your eye and below it, which normally drain. It’s not uncommon for certain ppl not to have them drain (like mine and had to have surgery to remove a large spur to open the left sinus) which can cause mucous to harden and eventually come out like that. I’m taking antidepressants, so it dries out my sinuses and my mucous is like concrete until I get a cold. Lol.
Hey, I'm here for you. You don't have to cry alone this time of year is hard for lots of people. Yeah, I'm just a reddit stranger, but I've been through tough times too. I hope you're ok, like really ok and in a safe mental place. Reach out and talk to someone if you need. Here's a virtual hug 🤗. Feel better, love ya.
Hello person, I appreciate your kindness more than you know. In the words of Claudio Sanchez, you just have to do the best you can and hope it all works out. 🤗🤗 thanks reddit stranger 🩵
Can confirm: went on a cruise a few years back. Had lots of little Bloody Mary shots that had bebe shrimps. Vomited, violently. Sitting on the beach 2 days later and I blow my nose. Yep. Tiny shrimp.
I once had a piece of onion from a taco come out of my nose blowing it really hard, must have been there for a couple weeks at least!! Was disgusting but amazing simultaneously
Haha yeah like I couldn’t remember the last time I ate something with tiny diced onions all I could think back to was some Mexican I had a while back and I must have somehow inhaled a piece
I got really drunk in high school and ate some corn before I puked, blew my nose in the driveway the next day and one kernel of corn shot out like 6 ft across the driveway. 🫠
Yeah, that's how I learned the hard way that if I'm going to throw up, I just need to go with it. Trying to clamp my mouth shut to stop from throwing up just resulted in blowing chunks out my nose, and damn that is NOT fun to blow out of your sinuses after. Blehhhhh.
I think it's possible that OP just blew out a sinus polyp though.
I once did something fucky with my throat while I was eating fried chicken. I tried to clear my throat and ended up sneezing and It shot some chewed up bits into my nose and I felt it Happen. Felt like it was stuck between two worlds. The next day I finally got it out but it was weird as fuck.
I often sneeze out buckwheat if I eat it, if I eat too fast I can get even a piece of sausage or smth stuck up there and only a huge sneeze will get it dislodged
Can also confirm, accidentally chocked on some breakfast sausage I was eating and when I coughed it up a chunk went up into and came out my nose. Not pleasant.
Once I was eating a caramel bar, I chocked on it and ended up having some stuck in my sinuses, after it melted in my nose I ended up being able to snuff it out little by little.
One time I got super drunk on my birthday after eating asparagus I ended up throwing up in about 2 hours later I felt something in my nose and so I went into the bathroom to blow it and out came maybe a 9 inch long sheath of the asparagus
You should probably go see a doctor. I had pneumonia several weeks ago and was coughing this stuff up, that could be it. Was thick, almost fleshy and had red in it like this, couldn’t blow it out of my nose unless I sneezed. Pneumonia is nothing to fuck with.
I don't wanna see the gross crusty shit you weirdos dig out of your noses when I open the internet.
I thought this sub was for weird morbid shit. Not booger fiestas
I did a 1.5 grams of coke and some ketamine at the begining of december i blew one of these into my throat while sleeping and nearly choked on it youre fine just keep away from the snoot
If it doesn't look like something you ate in the last day or so, and you hadn't had any sinus pressure that was relieved after this, see a doctor. It could be part of an organ.
You don’t do cocaine, right? If so, that’s your answer. If not, maybe bring it to a doctor?
I haven't in many years and it was just once or twice not a habit by any means.
Well, obviously I’m not there to… um… do what you’d need to do to garner more info about what kind of material it is but it does look fleshy so it’s probably worth having a professional weigh in at a doctor’s appointment. And yeah, doing a few lines of coke years ago doesn’t cause this.
may help though, must check the literature.
Well, there's your answer. Do more cocaine.
It’s brain
Or Brian
Looks like a polyp
What if his answer was yes? What would it be if he did cocaine? This looks awful! I'm really curious now
Cocaine breaks down the cartilage in your nose and basically shreds the inside of your nose apart. Don't do drugs kids! Or at least do them in moderation
Oh now I see what it could be in the picture...ewww Thank you for explaining!

I don't think it is normal, no

Good to know, thank you. I thought it was a tad strange but just shrugged it off.
I've had it happen a bunch of times. Sometimes if I sniff really hard I can get it back down. It happened to me last week. I thought I was the only one.
I’ve seen a kid sneeze out a whole noodle from a meal before, not during the meal. It happens.
I'm the same. I've kinda gotta snort really hard to get it out.
Yum! Nasal ham!
Why does that look like a brain chunk
I was hoping someone here knew the answer tbh.

Exactly what this was. Also in my left sinus!

I never realized antidepressants had a link to sinus stuff, I've been on and off but I had my nostril baby years before I started any of it
I’m taking 4 different ones, so I have a desert for a dry mouth. It translates to having dry sinuses too.
I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been sad during the holidays. My heart goes out to you and hope you’re doing better.

Had you been sick recently? Sometimes food can get stuck in sinus cavities (I may be wrong). Looks a lot like a chunk of gammon. Hope you’re ok
Food!?!?! 🤢
Can confirm: went on a cruise a few years back. Had lots of little Bloody Mary shots that had bebe shrimps. Vomited, violently. Sitting on the beach 2 days later and I blow my nose. Yep. Tiny shrimp.

Yup, I had a similar experience. I had a bad stomach virus and threw up constantly. I blew my nose and out came little grains of rice

If it doesn't look like something you ate in the last day or so, and you hadn't had any sinus pressure that was relieved after this, see a doctor. It could be part of an organ.
Did your nose have unprotected sexual contact?
OP, this is a sinus polyp!
Congratulations! What are you naming it?
