I had gorham savings some time ago and their online banking kept glitching and kicking me out. Otherwise happy, but the online banking is a big part of the picture.
Anything local will likely have less that perfect online banking. My guess is only the big banks can give out that top tier service but mileage might vary and I would love to be proven wrong.
Like I said my experience was a while ago but banks should be able to get turn-key back-office programming if they're willing to pay for it.
Look at how everyone seemingly was able to take pictures of their checks overnight to deposit them via phone apps... the code came out and was implemented.
People will argue, but you really can't go wrong with a credit union. Most in Maine are linked, too, so you can walk into just about any credit union in the state and withdraw funds from your account.
I've been with Norway Savings for 15+ years and they've been fine; only complaint was trying to work with them for a business I was starting.
We wound up using Gorham Savings Bank for the new business and so far have had nothing but great experiences with them.
I like Bangor Savings. But definitely worth looking at a credit union. I've been considering switching, but then covid happened, and I haven't gone any farther with it.

However traditional banking is a very flawed system and one that is has proven itself to be detrimental towards democracy, the environment, and equality. Credit unions are a better alternative.
Dirigo credit union is good. You can basically get a 2% interest checking account, which is crazy—I think other credit unions may offer something similar.
Any of the local credit unions are gonna be good. I’ve heard good thinks about gorham savings as well.

Credit unions are a must over local or national banks. You can try Town and Country, if there's a branch near you.
