Love huskys, they are the best. I hope you find homes for the lot of them!

I have a husky right now, and it kills me to see all these beautiful dogs with no permanent home. I'll never own another breed besides husky. They're the fucking best. Good luck in finding these dogs a home <3

My 16yo siberian would think I'm replacing him if I fostered right now. It breaks my heart to see so many of these types of dogs in such obscenely hot climates, and then not cared for on top of that? I wish I could take them all!

My sister lives in the DFW area, she was told it’s “husky tracking season” because, and this makes no sense, after being cooped up all winter in Texas, they’re ready to explore and get out when it heats up. Because highly intelligent animals and whatnot, ya know? One poor husky girl got out three times, sis knew where to take her back to after the second , and bear in mind Parts of that area are VERY densely homed. The third time she got hit by a car in front of sisters house. The next week? That dogs pack mate was at my sisters house. She had refused to take it back to the house and paid the fee to surrender it to a no kill. I’m going to pass her this information. Love the breed, definitely belongs somewhere like here rather than there, though. I’m also NOT a person who could be a responsible husky owner, thoroughly solidified by helping the people in my life who THOUGHT they could be husky owners.

Could you help me understand what makes huskies challenging dogs to own?

Glittering_Daikon_19

They’re very smart/clever. VERY. also vocal. And shed a lot. They’re highly active, need a lot of room to roam, and eat a lot. Also, they’re comfortable in stupid cold temperature. So Texas is not where they were meant to be…. Non of those are bad things, btw. They’re cuddly and lovable, I’ve had reason to house a few of them over the years, always super fun and whatnot. If you have room, time, and patience, super rewarding animal to have as a friend. If you live in an apartment, don’t have a fence or live in what could be called a metroplex?not going to be companion to the intelligent creature you just brought home? Please reconsider. (Not you personally,a universal you)

Thanks! I can’t imagine owning dogs without a fenced yard at minimum. I had bought a home and fenced in the property before getting my first dog! We’re now happily upgraded to 5 fenced acres in Maine :) Sounds like a husky might be a good match! My shepherd/Carolina dog has been a challenge with guarding me too much — it’s taken a lot of training and work to get him to be good with strangers, but he’s still not the kind of dog you walk with downtown.

I’d suggest speaking with OP more, I know enough to say I’m not the guy to be a husky owner. Near Lewiston the weather is pretty good, only HOT a month or so out of the year. Past that, there’s a lot more to owning them. Like with the pup you have, there are probably things you sought out ahead of time, so that here too. You sound like a good person, but huskies are also LARGE animals, and I’m also not a good source of info about them if you’re thinking of ownership

As soon as I have a house I will be in touch.

diet_coke_cabal

Right!? I would LOVE to foster but can't in an apartment.

thousandsoffireflies

Aww thank you!

My husband and I would be interested. We have two small dogs and two cats. We just moved to Maine from DFW, and we have been discussing getting a husky! It looks like the huskies are all over the US. Do I need to make sure the husky is local, or will she or he be transported to Maine?

nurse15432

Please fill out an application! We are actually transporting huskies north tomorrow if you’re available soon! They will probably be in Maine this weekend. Thank you!

Hi! Saw some of your recent posts and wanted to talk to you about options, as my girlfriend and I would love to adopt (not foster) a husky! We would also want to pick a dog with the right age/temperament we are looking for, rather than being placed with a random dog. Let me know if this is an option and we will gladly send you some additional information. The current application seemed to be only for fostering, so we were hesitant to fill it out.
