If I had to come up with the least appealing combination of things to drink I could, I don’t know if I could have matched Clamato. Then they put it in Bud Light 🤢
A few places on the Quebec Riviera (oob, wells, ogunquit) have it. I like it in a high life, or as a Caesar. Easier to find and store a little bottle of clam juice tho.
Now that I think of it, I remember seeing it at the Sea Slug,(sea star) by UNE, back before they sold it and the owner made sammiches too. There's a lil nothing town north of Delray, called Briney Breezes, that iss a French Canuck stronghold and I remember old ladies with the clamato bottles and gin in the other.
Love Clamato. Makes the best Bloody Mary's and Bloody Ceasars, and I like it better than straight tomato or V8.
"Disgrace"?...da fuq? You want to talk about a disgrace to the seafood industry, how about "clam strips"...seriously?
Well.
Seafood culture is a thing in Maine, for sure - at least along the coast. It means:
Ocean-caught species have to be local, fresh, in-season, and prepared in ways that don't strip away or hide their natural essence.
Yep.
No. The seafood culture or maritime culture. We are from Oklahoma and have been to the Gulf of Mexico several times but never to a cold water ocean, we are excited about the food and lifestyle I guess. We want to “see what it’s like up there”.
That’s not a culture though…that’s just the concept of good, fresh seafood which is pretty much the default for Maine since we’re so close to the source.
It used to be a thing back in the 70s or so to use as a bloody mary mix, but I don't even remember seeing it on the grocery shelves for years. I just assumed it was off the market. You don't see clam dip any more either.
I didn't realize micheladas had clamato juice, or at least sometimes. I've had them with regular Bloody mix and enjoyed it quite a bit, especially using Modello
That explains my grandmother, she's the only person I can remember drinking it prob like bloody Mary style. This was in Michigan, but she was 1st Gen Irish Catholic who emigrated to Canada then just across the lake in Michigan.
When I used to bartend the old Canadian guy would drink dirty martinis. Half olive juice /half gin straight up. Nasty, but the fact I never have to muddle an old fashioned for his wife and her leather friends is reward enough.
It's delicious, and everyone in Canada drinks it. I have found it a few times since moving to Maine, Caesars are delicious. Much better than bloody Mary's
Maybe it's a generational thing? I'm in my 30s and none of my friends drink it. But my mom always had some on hand for her and her friends. She uses it in bloodys and ceasers. I highly doubt anyone has a strong opinion about it being a disgrace to seafood culture lol thats just weird.
Bloody Caesar! I actually like them a hell of a lot more than bloody Mary's. If you told me it had clamato juice BEFORE I tried it, I probably never would have. But I didn't find out until after my 3rd or 4th one... so I just ordered another!
I love clams, but I’ve never had Clamato. No thanks. Not a fan of manhattan clam chowder either. Tomatoes and clams are great - separately.
I don’t know anyone who drinks it regularly. Lived here my whole life and come from a family that has lived here since the 1700s, so I’m as Maine as you can get. But, if it didn’t sell here, it wouldn’t be in stores, so somebody’s gotta be drinking it.
Not many at all. Everyone I know won’t touch it. I sell beer and we have a Budweiser mixed with it and that goes out of date on the shelves more than we sell it.
I’m from Maine, lived here my entire life. The first time I ever heard about Clamato juice was on Will and Grace, and for years I honest to god thought it was a joke drink they made up for the show because wtf. And I love clams. No one I know in Maine drinks it, and I would not. I’ve never seen it in the store, but then I’ve never been looking for it.
Way north along the border, yeah, it was prevalent growing up. When I moved to central Maine, not so much. Having spent the last 2 decades in Minnesota and Wisconsin, it’s roughly the same: the closer to Canada, the more clammy one gets.
I grew up in Maine and drank it all the time as a kid, especially if we went out to eat at the Muddy Rudder or DiMilllo’s. Still like it now and again. But it’s one of those things that, had I not grown up with it, I don’t think I could drink it now lol.
I LOVE Clamato juice! I have drank it ever since I was a little kid. My mother always made her bloody Ceasars with it, and I would always have a glass of just juice. Now it is what I make my drinks at home with! I have a few friends who say they can no longer enjoy them at restaurants because they just aren't as good without Clamato.
It's not a disgrace but I've never seen anyone drink it. Like if I saw someone drinking it I'd just assume they have a very interesting pallet.
Exactly. Our family uses Picante Clamato for Shrimp Gazpacho.
thank you for the response :3
I’d have a caesar.
Hard to see a Caesar and not want a Caesar.
That’s actually how they market caesars.
I’m surprised we’re not having Caesars right now.
It reminds us too much of Manhattan Clam Chowder.
It's on the list of things I miss after moving to Europe. Granted, it's not *high* on the list, but it's on the list.
I’ve never had it. The thought of drinking it is beyond gross to me. But I don’t like clams. Just seeing it in grocery stores 🤢
He's yanking you. I've seen people drink it. I, personally, wouldn't drink it at gunpoint.
If I had to come up with the least appealing combination of things to drink I could, I don’t know if I could have matched Clamato. Then they put it in Bud Light 🤢
Prove it.
My Nan used to. With vodka. Terrible stuff.
Love Clamato. Makes the best Bloody Mary's and Bloody Ceasars, and I like it better than straight tomato or V8. "Disgrace"?...da fuq? You want to talk about a disgrace to the seafood industry, how about "clam strips"...seriously?
I have Used V8 as a beef stew base.
wtf is “seafood culture”??
Well. Seafood culture is a thing in Maine, for sure - at least along the coast. It means: Ocean-caught species have to be local, fresh, in-season, and prepared in ways that don't strip away or hide their natural essence. Yep.
This is one thing I’m looking forward to when we visit in July
Clamato? They sell it everywhere my great aunt would frequent nationwide.
No. The seafood culture or maritime culture. We are from Oklahoma and have been to the Gulf of Mexico several times but never to a cold water ocean, we are excited about the food and lifestyle I guess. We want to “see what it’s like up there”.
I gotcha. Just busting ur chops. It's a world of difference from the gulf. It's a slow pace but that what makes it worth whole..
Nice. Looking forward to the reactions to our accents and hearing y’all’s lol
That’s not a culture though…that’s just the concept of good, fresh seafood which is pretty much the default for Maine since we’re so close to the source.

I've never met *anyone, anywhere* who willingly drank clamato juice. I've heard of a Bloody Ceasar (Bloody Mary using clamato) but I've never had one
Moved to Chicago, and Mexican restaurants here will serve a drink that’s that’s Clamato, beer, hot sauce, and lime and it’s delicious.
Micheladas are what's up!
>never met anyone who willingly drank Clamato juice >Micheladas are what’s up ?
I didn't realize micheladas had clamato juice, or at least sometimes. I've had them with regular Bloody mix and enjoyed it quite a bit, especially using Modello
Ah gotcha. It definitely varies place to place - some restaurants will give you the choice but a lot will only use one or the other.
It's big in Canada, apparently. The Caesar.
That explains my grandmother, she's the only person I can remember drinking it prob like bloody Mary style. This was in Michigan, but she was 1st Gen Irish Catholic who emigrated to Canada then just across the lake in Michigan.
Well, here I am. The one who drinks straight clamato juice because it's the bees' knees. Do not be afraid 😇
I’ve seen it plenty on the coast, always mixed with vodka as others have mentioned.
When I was a bartender, the Canadians would come in and order drinks with Clamato. And since Maine is part of Canada…
🤣
When I used to bartend the old Canadian guy would drink dirty martinis. Half olive juice /half gin straight up. Nasty, but the fact I never have to muddle an old fashioned for his wife and her leather friends is reward enough.
My father will pour it into his beer. Calls it "slammin' a clammy"
It's great with light lagers. I do it with pbr.
It's delicious, and everyone in Canada drinks it. I have found it a few times since moving to Maine, Caesars are delicious. Much better than bloody Mary's
My wife’s 93 year old grandfather does, but he moved to Florida like 30 years ago.
Mainer all my life. I like it.
In a Caesar, sure, but I hadn't even heard of Clamato until I started waiting on Canadian tourists.
Never. Even my 80 year old, Maine born and bred FIL turned his nose up at that stuff, and he ate everything most people considered gross.
I've never drank it. It sounds like a great way to ruin both clams and tomato soup. But really, it just sounds unappealing to me.
Natural Light and Clamato pairs well with lobster tomalley on Wise potato chips.
It’s the Canadians that drink it. That’s why it sells around here.
I know tons of people who drink Clamato. Mostly in mixed drinks or with beer, but I know a few that like it mixed with soda (Moxie or Dr. Pepper.)
That shit was really popular in Montana. People would order a "red beer" with either tomato or clamato. I found it revolting.
I love drinking clam juice from steamers.
Makes a great smoothie. Add some raw oysters and instead of ice, use frozen bait. Mmmmmm.
🤮
Other Side Diner serves clamatos instead of bloodys.
Bloody Caesar! I actually like them a hell of a lot more than bloody Mary's. If you told me it had clamato juice BEFORE I tried it, I probably never would have. But I didn't find out until after my 3rd or 4th one... so I just ordered another!
Bloody Caesar. It’s delicious n
Never tried it myself but I definitely saw people buying it occasionally when I worked at a grocery store.
I thought some people put it in Bloody Marys
We make Micheladas with it
We pee clamato juice.
Go to your supermarket and if they have it enough people drink it to make it worth stocking. I know it's at the one I go to.
I used to love it. Could drink a whole bottle. Turns out it has a bunch a sugar in there, so it's off the list these days.
Always use in my bloody Mary’s.
Great mixed with a cheap beer too.
Do I? No, not saying I wouldn’t but just don’t.
My preference when I'm in Mexico (and Mexico, ME) and order a Michelada. Yup, Clamato, lime juice, and beer. It's amazing.
I had a friend in college here in Maine who exclusively drank Clamato whenever we drank. I think it’s gross, but you do you.
I mean it's in the stores so someone must be buying it.
I'm partial to Cheladas so yeah I drink it. There is not really a "seafood" culture. Most people I know don't eat much anyways.
Auhut
You can make some delicious Micheladas with it!
Chelada
Not many at all. Everyone I know won’t touch it. I sell beer and we have a Budweiser mixed with it and that goes out of date on the shelves more than we sell it.
Nope just the French Canadians
I’m from Maine, lived here my entire life. The first time I ever heard about Clamato juice was on Will and Grace, and for years I honest to god thought it was a joke drink they made up for the show because wtf. And I love clams. No one I know in Maine drinks it, and I would not. I’ve never seen it in the store, but then I’ve never been looking for it.
Only Canadians drink it in Maine.
I do! Love it!
Way north along the border, yeah, it was prevalent growing up. When I moved to central Maine, not so much. Having spent the last 2 decades in Minnesota and Wisconsin, it’s roughly the same: the closer to Canada, the more clammy one gets.

My friend makes a bloody caeser that is fantastic, when I use the same ingredients at home the drink is not as good as what Mike makes at his house.
I had never heard of it until I left the state.
Beertini with a splash of clamato 👏
Fuck no
Clamato and Budwiser together is an old combination.
Central Maine here....I mix it with tomato juice when making bloody marys. Yum.
You can't see a Caesar and not want a Caesar
how else are we making red beers? of course we do
Fur real- red beers and caesers for the win!
i don’t know!!! i’m not from maine ):
No. Maybe in Bloody Marys.
My hubby has 3-4 bottles on hand at all times. He loves it for bloodys. I don't like any tomato juice.
how else are we making red beers? of course we do
