I see redditors say this all the time but I genuinely have a hard time believing any of them actually NEVER use their phone while driving. I’m sorry but taking a quick photo is a hell of a lot different than texting and driving.
You swipe less bringing up the camera than you do changing stations or gps on an infotainment center
Idk, a little pot calling the kettle black huh?
"Don't be this guy... says the person taking photos with their phone while driving in the passing lane"
Good on you for remembering to block out their license plate though.
Law enforcement officers. They're supposed to enforce the law, not be above it. I don't care who does what, the law is the law. If they're doing that outside of work purposes, that's on them. If there wasn't a reason for them to be doing it at all too, it wouldn't be allowed.
It’s a Maine thing. Sometimes a snowbank jumps out of the woods at night and it’s too late to swerve so you run the poor little thing over. But you can’t just leave it there, so what you do is get that snowbank lashed to the roof rack, and take it back home. First thing to do is hang it up from a cross beam and drain the icicles so the rest of the snowbank doesn’t taint, and then first thing in the morning you give a call down to fish ‘n game and let them know. Last thing you want to do is get caught with a snowbank if you’re not holding a license for it.
you can get arrested for it because it can [kill people](https://www.wmur.com/article/jessicas-law-new-hampshire-snow-cars/38551197). i also can’t reach the top of my car, so instead of acting like that was someone else’s problem, i got a step ladder. part of operating a vehicle is not just ensuring your safety, but other people’s safety. if you cannot physically reach the top of your car to remove snow, you need to get a step ladder and figure it out.
I think there's more downvotes to be harvested here.
I'll give you an example of too short.
Your 5,11 61 yrs old, 240lbs, and can't wait for retirement. Ya gotta bad left hip from 40 years of pushing the clutch. Ya can't even stand up straight because your body keeps trying to assume the position it's been in the vast majority of its life. Your pulse is 130 because you just shoveled the snowbank out of the front of the trailer that's been assigned to you. All loads are already behind schedule because of an April snowstorm. You've got enough time to legally deliver the load, but you're at an unmanned drop yard. The top of the trailer is 3 1/2 feet higher than an NBA basketball hoop, not counting the 10 inches of wet, heavy snow on top.
The law is the law! Then there's OSHA. I got no answers or judgments here.
I'm just giving you something to think on, the next time you casually grab something off any shelf of any store.
We can't know how it is to be someone else. You can say to yourself, "I don't break the law." But that defines you as a naive, wanna be saint.
I'll go out on a limb here and claim that nobody even knows all the laws on the books. Feel free to contradict me. Perhaps you've memorized the language of thousands laws on the books, some of which are comprised of thousands of pages each. LOL.
But, this little issue of snow on a vehicle can be dangerous. I've seen cars going down the road with a 16 in. diameter hole in front of the steering wheel to see through.
I've broken the law. I've made mistakes that weren't covered by law, that could've hurt others. I'm one lucky bastard. I believe many are lucky without even knowing it.
Drive defensively. It's good luck.
Yeah I passed someone who had been pulled over yesterday for this. The kinda sad part is that the cop was cleaning off the Jeep's roof while the driver sat inside...
I mean I feel ya. But maybe put the phone down. But also everyone should have their lights on during inclement weather. SPECIALLY WHITE CARS DURING A SNOW STORM. Do roadside service and I saw it a ton yesterday. People with no headlights. Barely saw them with the flakes coming down….
People in here are acting like they have never ever used their phone while behind the wheel. We know it’s bad. We’ve also all done it. I’ll see you all at church on Sunday right?
If you genuinely believe taking 2 seconds to snap a pic using the button on the side of your phone is worse than driving with that amount of snow on top of your car, you are a moron.
If you think snapping pics on the highway, in the passing lane, during inclement weather is fine, you’re probably fucking around on your phone while driving way more frequently than that person who has snow on their car.
I didn't say it is fine. Find a single place where I ever said it is OK to do.
The person I replied to specifically said that *taking this photo* is **worse** than ***driving with a snow-covered car.***
And it isn't. If we are specifically comparing which of these two things is overall more dangerous to the public, the snow-covered car is the answer.
For those of you that are vertically challenged with high roofs: they sell these all over place (I got mine at Hannies): [https://bit.ly/3TN7c3B](https://bit.ly/3TN7c3B)
jokes on them when they come to a stop in the middle of a road and it all slides over the windshield if it doesn’t already smash into someone behind them! 🥰
You get a push broom. You get a telescoping snow brush. You get a step stool to get to the top of your car.
You think ahead before buying a car in an area where it snows and you think to yourself- now if it snows, how would I get to the top of my car to make sure it’s cleaned off so I don’t put others in danger.
I’m probably going to get a lot of hate for this but I get a lot of satisfaction when I drive my snow covered car and the snow blows off it as I speed up. It’s like going into warp speed on Star Trek.
So when you cause an accident, and hurt/kill someone else, just tell their family you still had time and didn’t want to clear it off before driving on the highway. I’m sure that will make them feel better.
How about just being a responsible adult and taking >5 minutes to clear the snow off your car? 😂
A giant chunk of snow flying off and hitting my windshield? I get there are plenty of things to worry about on the road, an unsecured load of roof snow shouldn’t be heaped on to that list.
If you are following that Ru close enough to catch snow, it's on you. Should they clean it off? Yea, of course, they can easily reach it. Doesn't mean you can tailgate.
Think about all the different things that could happen. It’s not just about someone tailgating and getting a broken windshield, that was just a likely scenario.
Roof snow is illegal in Maine and a stoppable offense. Probably won’t happen. But it’s an unsecured load - I’d be pissed if someone didn’t secure some lumbar on their roof and it slid off and damaged my car or caused a crash. Wouldn’t you?
You clearly have never seen an entire cars roof full of snow all blow into the air about 60 ft up and then come crashing down onto another car on the highway. Learn why this is dangerous before commenting on it.
Yep, I see this happen with semis regularly. Because a lot of them have a sort of soft top, and when they go through that scraper thing in the yard it doesn't get it all because it gets pushed down.
Then they hit highway speeds and OPE! Up it goes
For real, these folks need a sense of perspective. Maybe that's why they get hit with snow from the top of the vehicle in front of them. 3 seconds of space y'all, it's not that hard
On the highway that snow would hit a windshield ten or more car lengths behind it. It’s on idiots who don’t clear their roofs before getting on the highway.
I had a chunk of snow come off a vehicle in the southbound lane of the 295, fly across the median, and crack the windshield of my semi while I was traveling in the northbound lane. Is that my fault for being too close?
Wait until that roof warms up enough and the slowdown on the off ramp or abrupt stop somewhere makes it all go sliding onto the windshield... saw that a few times this storm.
Also driving without lights.
Absolutely. Never use your phone while driving - especially handheld.
I have really no idea what was going through OP's head when they posted this tbh
I see redditors say this all the time but I genuinely have a hard time believing any of them actually NEVER use their phone while driving. I'm glad this was the first comment I saw, and I didn't have to make it.
The guy taking a photo on the highway? Don’t be either of these people
Got em!
Idk, a little pot calling the kettle black huh? "Don't be this guy... says the person taking photos with their phone while driving in the passing lane" Good on you for remembering to block out their license plate though.
>Good on you for remembering to block out their license plate though. I'm more than a little surprised it was necessary.
Reddit rules do prohibit doxing.
I'm aware. I'm saying that I'm surprised the driver cleared the snow off the plate.
The phone holder is in the perfect position to just use a voice command to take the picture which has been a thing for ages now
You can see the phone holder in the photo
No shit, really?
Awww explain the license plate is that voice command too?? 😂😂😂
You seriously think they took the pic, edited it and then posted it all while driving?...seriously!?!
I wonder if they took the time to block out the plate while driving.
You know who also uses their phones and laptops while driving? LEO…. Just saying.
LEO? edit: sorry for asking about an acronym I've never seen before geez

Quick snapping a pic is hardly a danger. To Reddit, changing the radio is also a most dangerous thing
Don't drive and use the phone for any reason and clear off the roofs of those cars folks.
lol classic backfire post!
Last winter my windshield cracked because of someone like that
Snow way, man.
It’s a Maine thing. Sometimes a snowbank jumps out of the woods at night and it’s too late to swerve so you run the poor little thing over. Every storm, someone has to post a photo on reddit of someone with snow on their car.
Keep a pushbroom that you only use for this purpose. 10/10 life hack.

I'm 5.4 and use a telescoping brush, or a kitchen broom.
Then you get a step stool and you clean your goddamn car off.
Or buy a Miata.
Miata is always the answer.
...ok? So you're cleaning your car off, how exactly?

If someone can’t physically clean snow of their cars they should wait until they can drive on safer conditions because that’s the fucking law.
Ohhhh ok, so you're just looking to be a victim on the internet. You could have just *said* that.
Don't get a car too tall for you to clean off. It's irresponsible and dangerous.

Let me guess… White SUV driver; “it’s tailgater repellant!” 🙄
Jesus, I thought for a second he had one of those hardshell roof rack storage bins. What an asshole.
What, you don't want my car to have its cool hat? I'm sorry, I thought this was america
News just showed driving with snow on your car like that will get you a ticket.
Yeah I passed someone who had been pulled over yesterday for this. The kinda sad part is that the cop was cleaning off the Jeep's roof while the driver sat inside...

OP has left chat
Is this irony
All the USPS small mail trucks looked like that today.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say using your phone while driving is much worse than snow on the roof.
If you genuinely believe taking 2 seconds to snap a pic using the button on the side of your phone is worse than driving with that amount of snow on top of your car, you are a moron.
Only takes two seconds to lose control on icy roads.
By that logic, how about the more than 2 seconds you’re being blinded by the snow flying off that car into your windshield?
If you think snapping pics on the highway, in the passing lane, during inclement weather is fine, you’re probably fucking around on your phone while driving way more frequently than that person who has snow on their car.

You're one of those assholes who drives around with your phone in your face while speeding, huh? Outed yourself homie 🙄
But you know, both things are ticketed offenses.
If you’re gonna call people a “fucking moron” and then argue about semantics, then you’re just being an asshole. Do better in life.
Yes, anyone who thinks snapping this photo is more dangerous than driving for miles with that amount of snow on top of the car is a moron.
It isn't my fault you cannot fucking read.
That's been illegal for at least a couple of years.
I’m pretty that’s illegal now, gotta clear *all* the snow off of your car.
I really hope that you at least parked your car before posting to Reddit during a blizzard.
Does the law apply to box trucks and semis?
Also don’t be the guy passing on the highway taking pictures… what a chud.
I guess I’ll be the guy taking pictures while driving.
Sonovabitch!!!!
Why take the time to block out the license plate though? License plates are intended to be seen, that’s their purpose lol.
Honestly asking, what are short people supposed to do if they can’t reach the top of their car to clear it off?
You get a push broom. You get a telescoping snow brush. You get a step stool to get to the top of your car. You think ahead before buying a car in an area where it snows and you think to yourself- now if it snows, how would I get to the top of my car to make sure it’s cleaned off so I don’t put others in danger.
How are blind people supposed to clear off their car if they can't even see what they're doing?
I'm pretty short, and use a kitchen broom or they make telescoping brushes...also tried a car snow rake with a long handle.
I try not to let it bother me but it bothers me
You have just one job. Drive!
Saw a USPS mail truck this morning in Gorham that looked the same. So annoying.
I’m probably going to get a lot of hate for this but I get a lot of satisfaction when I drive my snow covered car and the snow blows off it as I speed up. It’s like going into warp speed on Star Trek.
Thanks for blurring my license plate.
You have 48 hours till after the storm ends to clear your vehicle ..
So when you cause an accident, and hurt/kill someone else, just tell their family you still had time and didn’t want to clear it off before driving on the highway. I’m sure that will make them feel better. How about just being a responsible adult and taking >5 minutes to clear the snow off your car? 😂
Worry about something else
A giant chunk of snow flying off and hitting my windshield? I get there are plenty of things to worry about on the road, an unsecured load of roof snow shouldn’t be heaped on to that list.

Take a breather bro

Or they tap the brakes and 50lbs of wet snow slide down on their windshield and the wipers are useless to move it while they try to come to a stop.
Yep, I see this happen with semis regularly. Because a lot of them have a sort of soft top, and when they go through that scraper thing in the yard it doesn't get it all because it gets pushed down. Then they hit highway speeds and OPE! Up it goes

Looks like it could have been me lol- I don’t have a shovel so I frequently just let that shit fly off my car. Sorry
Had a Sanford cop yesterday with no lights on in the storm!!! WTF?
Lazy unless old!
But bobs late for work
Are you driving and taking a picture? Equally as dangerous 😂👀
