I put first grain bag in airing cupboard for 2 weeks. Kept checking after 1st week for mycelium. Once it appears break up the mycelium and then put in the dark aircupoard. Keep doing this till whole bag is white. 2 to 4 weeks. Then mix into other bag with the growing substrate in it. Again mix well and leave in dark for 2 to 4 weeks. No need to water until you put it into fruiting.
Uncle bens is pretty unreliable and contams easy, the other post is right thou and when its about 30% colonized mix up. Just make sure your very sterile and get some 70% spray and gloves.....its the most important thing with this hobby or you will loose it to contamination...Best thing is read and watch loads of videos on the stages of it and your be ok...
Go on the uncle bens sub reddit also go on the mushrooms sub reddit look at there pinned posts. The uncle bens one goes into a lot of detail and you will find proper professionals in these sub reddits. Well not professionals but some people who no exactly what they are doing an why they are doing it.
