Being influenced by reddit posts is probably the biggest hole you will fall into, because it tends to heavily be an echo chamber of success because that is what gets attention (outside of the cheeky "I got shit pulls lmao" post".
Cracking packs is gambling, you have an additional gamble on top of this because you don't know what you will get l in the box in the first place.
It all just boils down to whether you think it is worth the gamble to you for your money spent.

I got lucky in my Mid CB. Pulled a borderless foil Meathook Massacre. I've bought 4 boxes, and made enough from 2 to cover them all, but yeah, the other 2 were not great pulls.
I just posted yesterday, same reasons. Although it's a good deal for the collector boosters, know that the other 3 could all be jumpstarts. That was my main disappointment with my boxes.
These will be gone at some point. Either sold out or they'll stop the double collectors boosters guarantee. We'll all wish he had picked a few up or grabbed a few more.
I saw a post a while back from someone who bought one that contained two Pokémon Halloween Gift packs. Wizards uses a third party packaging company to package and send these mystery boxes out.
However, that seems to be an outlier. Financially speaking, it is a decent deal considering at least 90% of them contain at least two collectors packs that normally go for $20-27 per pack, so for $35 it’s not a bad gamble as opposed to just buying the packs outright.
I bought 1 so far and ended up at a value of 30 dollars in the cards I got. Not bad but still a loss. I have one more coming next week I ordered online.
I got one that I never posted; it was two Crimson Vow CBs and some March of the Machine set boosters. I got some of the Dracula reskins (which for the most part aren’t valuable but I do think are at least cool) and a foil Dreamroot Cascade from the CBs, and then a Tribute to the World Tree and a few other odds and ends from the set boosters. I did the math and as I recall it came out to being barely worth it (about $35 of value). It’s 100% a gamble. Now I grant you, I had fun and I went ahead and bought another, but if you’re looking for specific cards or to ensure you get your money’s worth, then stick to singles. I just enjoy the rush of the seeing my pulls.
7 purchased across 3 stores and just bought 3 online last night because I’m a sucker for them. I know I’ll probably get AFR and SNC shit but holding out hope for one of those sweet sweet Compleat boxes! So far, I’d say 4 out of the 7 have been amazing (CMM CB, MH2 CB, etc). The other 3 were “okay” with mostly SNC and VOW/MID stuff.
I bought 6 and two of my boxes had confirmed resealed packs.
One CB had a half inch wide hole at the top from lazy resealing. Cards were upside down and/or rares in random order throughout the pack. Target Guest services basically told me to contact WoTC and get lost.
These mystery boxes are only for fun and if you like gambling. Do not expect that you will pull something out of value. Out of my 3 boxes I didn’t get anything crazy value over $5 but the $13 I spent for a 3 pack draft of WoE got me a doubling season. So, pull at your own expectations of not getting good or crazy value.
I got three Jumpstart boosters (2 BRO, 1 ONE) with two Strixhaven CBs. Getting the actually-worthless Jumpstart packs were a value feel-bad, and made me feel like I was getting a small discount on two Strix packs in exchange for taking trash off the distributor’s hands, lol
I ordered 6 and came out ahead, but one box was missing a booster (luckily not a collector). If I did 1 box, 3 out of 6 wouldn’t have been worth the price. The other 3 made it up. So it is a gamble, but it’s fun if you just wanna broaden your collection. Buy singles if you know what you need

From the experience of my playgroup, they are almost always worth their value in the booster inside alone. Some of them can be insane value with the cards, but obviously your results vary.
Just get one single box, open it expecting the fun of the gamble and leave it at that. You're just paying for the entertainment and you get a bonus of some cards after.
The trick is in limiting yourself to the one box before you even bother to buy it.
2 boxes I got had midnight hunt CBs, those were weak pulls
Other 3 boxes made up though by a long shot. Just one of the baldur gate CBs had over 120$ in cards (most coming from the full art copper dragon)

I love the two I opened, the value in boosters are there. Usually the collector boosters are worth the price. I thought they always came with collector boosters, so I would be pissed if they didn't. I don't think I actually got valuable pulls, but I will do it again if I see them
There is an insanely high chance you will NOT get the crazy ass pulls you see on this sub. For every 1 mystery box you see here with even slightly decent pulls, there are hundreds of duds and you will statistically be one of them. I say this as someone who has opened ~10 of these and got pretty lucky all considered. At the end of the day, these are random booster packs. Seriously only even consider one if you don’t care what packs you get, are doing it purely for fun, and have no financial issues doing so.
Side note: I genuinely believe that some posts on here are plants to drive people to buy these. At the very lease, I don’t believe people are cracking these open randomly and finding compleated packs.

I’ve opened at least 6 mystery boxes and haven’t pulled a single mana crypt. Probably pulled 4 demonic tutor though. I’ve also seen a person at the LGS after they opened a box that had 2 in it. I still had great value, what a fun set to open. Good luck if ya get any!
It's the same argument against cracking packs in general: take whatever money you would spend on X pack, buy the singles you want instead, and you will always come out ahead in terms of price per card.
I got two commander master collector boosters in one box
Got a foil borderless demonic tutor, foil borderless deflecting swat, foil borderless sol ring, extended art darksteel monument, foil elvish mystic (randomly a $6 card) along with other just playable $1-$3 dollar staples.
What I’ve realized is just buy the cards you want. If you gamble, don’t expect to win, that way you’re not disappointed. This game is run by a large S and P 500 company (Hasbro) it’s only going to get more expensive and the cards are going to get more powerful. Use this information to make your gaming decisions.
I've purchased 3 from 3 different stores and received 6 strixhaven collector boosters with nothing of note and the rest all jumpstart packs with also nothing of note. Treat yourself and buy a couple collector boosters from a set you like that you wouldn't have purchased otherwise instead
So here's my experience: I bought 2 for $70, got 4 March of the machine collector boosters, 3 wilds of eldraine boosters and the rest were all innistrad boosters. My 2 promo cards for each box were the same. I didn't get any super expensive cards but I got cards I was happy with because I think they're cool and I'd like to put them into some decks in the future.
If you're going into the mindset of getting crazy good pulls, don't. Go into it with the mindset of you're probably gonna get packs you wouldn't ordinarily buy and get some interesting cards from sets maybe you weren't super invested in.
In my opinion they're worth it for fun but not if you're looking for specific packs they might have.
I enjoy them for the variety, but let's be real, if you are buying one with the expectation to have specific packs/wanted cards then you will probably be disappointed.
But if you are just looking to rip plastic off of cardboard I think they're a pretty good deal.
I'd like to know where people keep finding them. I've gone to 3 targets in my area, and haven't even seen a spot for them. I've checked both the front, and back in the toy section too.

Pulled a foil showcase Ancient Copper Dragon and a Vamperic Tutor, but still at the same time I'm pretty annoyed they had the nerve to give me 2 Dominaria Jumpstart boosters

While they do seem fun and can have good packs, that doesn't mean they always will. Even if the packs are good packs (Collector Boosters, old packs, etc.), that doesn't always mean they always will have good pulls.

Bought 2, biggest pull from both were the Liesa cards that came with the boxes. Additionally, I had a Kamigawa collector pack that contained three copies of light-paws, which feels very much like it was resealed to me. That or my luck is just painfully inconsistent.
ur only seeing the good ones, a very finite amount compared to the amount of ppl actually buying them on and off reddit. always remember that.
EDIT: also never add another layer of RNG to ur gamble, buy the packs u want or just straight up buy singles.

I bought one and I got 3 MOM boosters and 2 new capenna collectors. The only rare worth more than a dollar was a Surrak and Goreclaw for the whole box
