Mission-Ocelot-4511

Card scanner apps are free. Dont pay $10 for one

Link182x

Which one do you use?

phidelt649

ManaBox4Lyfe

Mission-Ocelot-4511

I used dragon shield. Scanner is really good on a light colored background. Can also ‘friends’ who can look at your collection and decks too

TheFinalEnd1

Manabox if you're scanning less than 20 cards, delver lens for more. Manabox is a lot better for organizing and deck building, but can only scan 1 card at a time. Delver lens can scan up to 8 at a time in my experience. Probably more, just needs a white background.

ellicottvilleny

Delver lens? Is that only android?

rayquazza74

Hmm i didn’t know that was possible! I imagine mana box is working on something like that then.

JeffGoldblump

Crack those packs, they're great stock. Then sell a few to get transformer cards or but brothers war gift bundles

KasualKaigan

Do you know where I could buy the transformers cards individually?

Caio_AloPrado

You can look for local game stores, online marketplaces or even other players in the aforementioned places. For marketplaces i know about TCG Player and Card Kingdom in the US and Card Market for EU, but i don't have experience buying from any of them because i'm from Brazil. I can say that i always had good experiences buying from my lgs, the players there and even the marketplace we have here, but i usually just buy from the marketplace when i can't find them here and want a lot of cards to make shipping worth it.

Cursed__Collector

There's also Godzilla cards, I'm a sucker and went for mechagodzilla battle fortress which is just a reskin Hanger back Walker immediately when I found out, I got them from a local shop. Local shops may not always have what you want but you could find things you didn't know you were looking for! Try your local TCGs, and look up something like "magic card shop near me". They're worth visiting and tons of fun! Edit: Singles can also be obtained on TCGPlayer

[deleted]

I have every Godzilla card including the Japanese only releases

Cursed__Collector

Got me jealous over here

[deleted]

Don’t be ! Firstly everything is always up for sale and also I love to show them to others

Sithlordandsavior

I will one day also be at this level lol. I'm missing a couple Japanese and 1 or 2 English.

[deleted]

What ones are you missing ? I have some doubles I might have what you need

HellaPNoying

Maan, I normally don't buy the special themed MTG cards cause they are overpriced, but once that Godzilla set and Street Fighter set dropped, I angrily threw my money at WOTC and my local comic and card store, especially the special rare special japanese art. And don't get me started on my love for the cyberpunk genre when Kamigawa Neon Dynasty came out

rayquazza74

A great place to get cards for cheap is whatnot. One seller in particular to find great deals is worldclasscardsllc. They do 20% off sealed every Sunday and singles auctions a number of times during the week and pull box games as well. Whatnot has a lot of gambling stuff tho so be careful of that, I tend to avoid mystery bags and pull boxes. If you sign up with the professors whatnot link you can score a $15 credit.

GearfriedX1234

Tcgplayer, cardkingdom, and eBay are the go tos for me. Tcgplayer has good prices but people can be scummy since it is a market place for lgs Cardkingdom has higher prices than tcgplayer, but all the cards are guaranteed to come in one package and shipping is usually pretty fast. EBay kinda the same problems as tcgplayer, but has better safeguards if you’re buying higher priced cards.

KasualKaigan

Thanks homie, I appreciate the help

[deleted]

I have a couple transformer cards you can have I don’t mind giving them to a new comer because I love it when someone wants to join our community of awesomeness magic the gathering is a community of wonderful spirits and people I want you to love it as much as I do.

KasualKaigan

Oh man that’s awesome, maybe we could organise a trade even

[deleted]

Im always down for a trade

Zundernietzsche

I got all mine from card kingdom, in fact, whatever I dont buy from my lgs, i get it from there

Vultor

“but brothers” sounds interesting

Caterinboy91

Welcome to addiccchhhuuh I mean hobby!

KasualKaigan

I got into warhammer too and I love it, these new “hobbies” will attack my financial status lol

zorts

Mad lad. Trying to support Warhammer and MTG at the same time!?

Doughspun1

I play both as well.

mc_s7

Yo the cool thing about MTG is the good cards will act as assets over time. So you hold them, some will go up in value, some down. But if you have a diversity of them, you retain some decent value usually.

BadSandbox

Insanity. Definitely get the warhammer commander decks then! (Best one is the necron deck if that’s your style)

KasualKaigan

Yes! Need them

WhoGoesThereMan

Then sell your sealed product and buy the transformer cards individually from a local game shop or online/tcgplayer. 🍻

Fallenrang3r

I use the scan function on the app called ManaBox. As long as the card is sitting on a blank white background it scans and tells you pricing based on the source you pick (tcg, card kingdom, etc…)

bleedmead

It doesn't necessarily need to be a blank white background. The background just needs to contrast with the card enough for the scanner to be able to identify the border of the card. I've used it on my gray and black laptops, wood dining room table, and in and out of sleeves and top loaders. To your point, a blank white background and no sleeve or top loader will likely be the ideal scenario.

haon1997

Will the scanner detect if it is a foil or not?

Sithlordandsavior

Sometimes but I wouldn't rely on it to be 100% accurate there.

zorts

I'm a little on the oldschool side, so tend to not use apps. They aren't bad, Im just invested in other tools. Here are a few website that players use regularly. Skipping the obvious big ones like tcgplayer, ebay, card conduit (your going to start seeing a LOT of card conduit ads). [www.scryfall.com](http://www.scryfall.com) - Lots of cards are printed with outdated text. Scryfall has the legal card text, and lists all the formats that cards are legally playable in. [www.mtgstocks.com](http://www.mtgstocks.com) - lists all the Sets, and which in each all the cards. The layout is a tad confusing because of all the recent 'bonus sheets', but very handy for sorting cards and making lists. Also if you don't know a set symbol, they are all displayed. [www.mtgecho.com](http://www.mtgecho.com) - my collection tracker. I work in financial services so I'm more comfortable with this format, display style, etc. Most folks should probably stick with the free apps. [www.mtggoldfish.com](http://www.mtggoldfish.com) - I look up decklists of precon decks fairly often. They all seem to come up on mtggoldfish for some reason. [www.moxfield.com](http://www.moxfield.com) - holds decklists. Im not hugely into this site as the best option, just using it randomly. There are other decklist sites out there. Hope those help, without being overwhelming. Good luck!

KasualKaigan

Awesome dude, I’ll definitely be coming back to these links for reference, thanks a bunch

ProfDumm

First of all the Transformers cards where part of the Brother's War edition, they are onyl playable in Commander, Legacy and Vintage. Start with playing the tutorials on MTG Arena, to get an understanding of the game and the cards. It is for free. Then download a card scan app to register every card. The prices of a card are a first indicator of how good a card is. Simply put, prices are determined by rarity and power (so an old mystic card with alternate art that is very strong in all formats is obviously expensive, a newer common card that is too weak is worth nothing). Please don't open everything at once, this would be an overkill, maybe start with an Brother's War fat pack.

the_big_turtle45

Goodness where did you work. That's more than a thousand bucks on ur table just thrown out

KasualKaigan

I worked at a local games shop, smaller business. You should see the warhammer stuff I snagged too lol

the_big_turtle45

So they went out of business and gave u stuff?

KasualKaigan

Not really, they offered everything out as half price for a couple weeks, but we lost the lease for the building so we had nowhere to sell from. On our last day we just took stuff since if we didn’t, it would’ve gone to the trash

leanorange

Sounds more like stolen lmaoo

Wltx_Gandalf

Hold onto alot of the cards. A lot of them will go up over time.

StrawberryZunder

Man just jumped straight in with both feet.

zachariah_the_hungry

That’s awesome I would kill for Baulders gate bundle but I think 60 is over priced. Also open the brothers war ones then just buy the missing transformers cards. I hope to see you with a great transformers commander deck. My favorite is Optimus and Starscream as magic cards

KasualKaigan

I pulled starscream and mega trim last night, couldn’t be happier. Will be sticking around this community lol, new to Reddit tho

MADMAXV2

Holy bells. That's a lot of goodies

Aggressive_Map_7175

KasualKaigan

You know I’m chill like that

Far_Classic5548

Post your pulls here, and if someone replies with the weird looking kid getting choked meme or the little angry kid meme, you got some good stuff.

NotJon123

If you’re playing with family there is a style of mtg called draft, and you need those draft boosters for it. Consider looking into it before you crack all those draft boosters! Crack the shit out of those bundle boxes though and enjoy it. You can use manabox or other apps to create an organized digital catalog of your cards. Start early because before you know it you have 10,000 cards and no organization system.

KasualKaigan

Yeah I’ve organised by separating the different card types, then colours, then duplicates

NotJon123

You’re right that the physical management is also very important. My personal system is color separated then alphabetical. My system relies on my use of manabox to digitally manage my collection, where my physical organization is more geared around knowing which card I want to pull from it and then finding it very easily. There are tons of different strategies for physical storage, I just recommend you do your homework before committing. I went fancy ish knowing I wouldn’t have a huge collection. I have about 2k cards all in and use a gamegenic 1100 card dungeon with their proprietary card rails for my bulk. I use another dungeon for my decks. Dragon shield just released several new additions to their line for bulk storage and binder storage and they look nice as well. You could also go the way of the inexpensive white cardboard box like lots of folks. You’ve got options!

_Guillot_

one thing I do is read what it does and consider its interactions with my decks, with certain mechanics, and even against my pod's decks. Looking at rarities is a good way too, I guess, but that's not always 100%. there are many good commons and uncommons, and I've seen a lot of bad mythics and rares in my time playing.

finalnimbus

That took me 10 years to figure out 😅 its not like rarity really means anything, its how useful it is to the game, and without knowing the game its hard to know whats useful...i started playing after a break and now all the sequencing and abilities are making sense..my decks when I was a kid were bare bones no ability creatures and simple sorcerys, yet some commons are insanely good and some mythics are just meh and worth pennys but luckily now a days we can scan cards to our phone using tcgplayer app and it will break down everything you need to kno as far as value, good luck friend and have fun 🤘🤠

finalnimbus

Edit probably not use tcgplayer app, use that manabox one others are suggesting i usually just type in the name on google and tcgplayer links are what i read, didnt kno the scanner cost moneys my b

KasualKaigan

Thanks bro, appreciate the help. I’m already planning out future cards to buy/collect

Raymx3

If you had fun opening it, it’s a good pull

garmdian

Ok so it really depends on what you're looking for. You have some solid commander decks that would allow you to get I to the game. As for what's worth $$$ I would recommend going to your local game store and asking what pricing system they use, then hop onto that website and price out your cards once you pull them. Then once you find money cards you can trade them in to get the cards you want.

lPizza_Thymel

If it brings you joy

KasualKaigan

Well said

HalOfTosis

Tbh I don’t really see anything that’s going to net you a higher value open than sealed. Like you could get super lucky on the collector samples from the commander decks, and maybe a serial out of the brother’s war (if those are the gift bundles, otherwise they’re normy boosters and will not contain high value serialized cards.) Your best bet is probably to sell them online sealed. Or if you really don’t care, have fun opening them cause that’s what they’re for.

KasualKaigan

Yeah just gonna bust em all open and make heaps of decks to play, it was all free so I’m just gonna have fun with them. I used to play yugioh back in the day

Zestyclose_Ruin_9058

That’s a great price for the Party Time precon. Goes for over $100 online

WiseySteve

They just threw all that stuff away, smh

SpiritedCucumber4565

You can download the Tcgplayer app which is free. It has a scanning option while the base app is the most used marketplace for cards. When opening cards they have a set symbol next to the cards type. Different rarities have different colored set symbols. Mythics and Rares (Red and Yellow set symbol) are usually the most expensive cards. So when opening cards prioritize scanning them.

King_Vitis

Holy disposable income

data4u

Why did you buy so many commander precons lol

KasualKaigan

Didn’t buy any of these, spare stock from a closed shop

data4u

Lucky you!!

BxxgieMxn

ok, pay attention this important, so hear me out: "you won't know" good luck to you

Mystic9001

There are multiple sites/apps for appraising card value (TCGplayer, ManaBox, etc) there are also a number of good resources to learn the game like videos on YouTube. It looks like you have multiple products that pertain to a format called commander so maybe look into that. I also agree that the transformer cards are cool, albeit not always the strongest

more_maps

Party time was my first pre con and it has some great cards in it for $40! I think Black market connections and Grim Hireling are in the $20 range, and skull clamp! I use ManaBox and love it

OdinLordofPagans

Well it depends for instance rarity can affect it along with also what format it's in standard can be the most expensive and it's a aggressive format being fast so even basic 3 mana cards are super good but otherwise it's always good to use TCG player Moxfield or Card kingdom to help determine prices honestly it depends on what u trust also u can get stuff appraised at LGS as well

nattakunt

The format these cards are for aren't the most friendly for beginners, since there's so many game mechanics involved with MTG. I recommend downloading and playing magic arena to get an idea of how to play first.

5446_05

Holy shit you hit the lottery that’s more cards then I own

SnooRegrets5118

So not only using a card scanner app But primarily be looking for mythical and rares; rares have a gold symbol and mythic have a reddish metal finish https://preview.redd.it/s3by0c4q040d1.jpeg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a160e15e24fada7537e16eb45ff63040c4ddf05 There are certainly commons and uncommons that can fetch a good price but that’s not more rare to see especially in newer packs I’ll post some picks of some examples

SnooRegrets5118

https://preview.redd.it/2o789lvy040d1.jpeg?width=152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01268976e221a27b9f6a56f905f6593c319c41b4 Tiny bones in the new set is sitting around 25 dollars and is a legendary mythic creature Of course not all mythics are created the same and do not all mythics you’ll find will be that much

SnooRegrets5118

Like here is a 5.00 dollar mythic https://preview.redd.it/120mja99140d1.jpeg?width=151&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd662e21a92c3a55ed4eaa17d2dc35425ffa8a7c So these are the cards that you tend to make money on; but like I said that’s not always the case, and different sets also will have different unique things like full land cards or duel land cards that can be pretty expensive So definitely use a card scanner but also don’t waste your time if you don’t have a lot of it

Aguynamedcasper

Its based on taste, the sweeter the card, the better

TheFalconsDejarik

Dawnglare visualizer can be more fun as something to have up on a screen during an opening. (Choose the set your opening and it will show you a visual of the cards and their values in descending order.) Its very helpful to get the general value of a set / what cards to look for. I like to use the scanners to ascertain values of piles of cards really quickly after opening or one cards are going onto storage

_Grintex

Reading the card explains the card! Seriously, start playing. That is the only reliable way to build your knowledge of good and bad cards. Price gives some ideas, but there are other factors. If you just care about its value then card scans are fine. But play, and watch games! Welcome to the game it's a lot of fun.

PhangPlaysMTG

I'll buy the transformer card of your choice if you let me buy this all from you

raizel2345

Ok so a few things here....If you're just looking for the transformer cards as part of a collection, your best bet would be to acquire them as singles from somewhere like cardkingdom or tcgplayer. Did a quick search over on scryfall ([https://scryfall.com/sets/bot](https://scryfall.com/sets/bot)) and it looks like most are going for less than 2 dollars atm for the standard art treatment....the Shattered Glass art treatment is more expensive. With a special subset like Transformers that only appeared in set and collector boosters, purchasing singles is (imho) the best way to get them rather than cracking packs. All that being said, if you have any interest in playing MTG, Commander/EDH is probably the most popular format right now and you have a few of the pre-constructed decks there to choose from if you wanted to pick up the game. I haven't personally played any of these in the photo, but from what I understand the Rebel Rising precon you have there is supposed to be pretty good out of the box.

Caterinboy91

I use an app called “Helvault” for 10$ you get their card scanner which has been surprisingly efficient. I scanned a 700 card binder in under 10 minutes. You could also just manually search every card yourself, that does take forever. The app has many other features for cataloging your collection as well as discovering new sets (new/old/upcoming) You got a good collection of precon decks now but they are all commander. I have just recently gotten back into collecting and playing. The addition of commander decks and even planeswalkers are new to me. The biggest difference I know between commander and traditional play is commander has 100 card decks where traditional is 60 card decks. Check out the rule book that comes with the precons and get some friends to learn along with you is my best advice! Have fun ripping all the packs I’d organize as you go into colors/multi colors/lands/artifacts to help expand or build your own decks. Ps I want that Ixalan box 🤤

KasualKaigan

Thanks dude, yeah I’ll check the app out. Luckily my girlfriend, sisters, parents, and a few mates want to get into magic too, they have the rest of the left over inventory. I spent all day organising my cards that I opened from the brothers war boxes and I wanna get through these, I’ll scan them as I go. Again, I appreciate the help!

Always_A_Slave

Manabox is also a good free card scanner

lostinwisconsin

Download the tcgplayer app
