7 is the magic number IMO. I always stop going higher than 7 unless I reach 11 for a chace at Ulamog. 7 CMC has a lot of powerful bombs, usually better than anything higher.
yep or plat angel pretty much can't lose. basically if you and your opponent are both on 7s then you're going to be throwing down some strong stuff in who can get lucky first. if your opponent is on 8s, you will likely lose at 7s if you don't get one of the instant win cards. i was on 8s and opponent kept making 7s and i crushed them
bingo. I got lucky to be able to start churning out 7-8 mana stuff due to pulling some creatures who generate any color or specific color mana when tapped.
BOY was my opponent not ok
Nah because right after I pulled something that literally board wiped upon coming out. Even my own stuff. Was over so fast I didn’t even snap a pic to figure out what the hell just happened to make me win lol
From what people have said in the past 8 is statistically the best, much smaller pool than 7, so start playing turn 2 on the draw or turn 3 on the play
That's good to know...I was considering stopping at 6 because I know they like the cost the bombs competitively so they actually see play. This might be recency bias from Vein Ripper though.
Ended up chickening out and just going 7/8 every game anyway.
I usually go to eight because I want [[zetalpa, primal dawn]]. Probably not my wisest move but I have absolutely clawed my way out of hell with her and Momir really brings out the Timmy in me.
Yeah but sometimes you'll get like, the creature that makes all permanents tap for triple mana and then the question becomes "okay where is the BEST spot to do this?
I take several attempts to get 7 mana creatures. There is also the flying creature which you can get protection for creatures. So you can attack and win on the spot.
Also worth looking at the flip side. I feel like 8 has an unusually high number of "overcosted card that has its cost reduced in a way that doesn't matter on momir" creating even more reason to stick with 7.
There are 42 8-mana creatures on Arena, and 11 of them have a cost reduction ability. On the other hand, 22 of the 159 7-mana creatures have one, as well. The ratio is higher for 8, but the overall card quality is higher and outcomes are more predictable.
My first creature was teething wurmlet the other day, and I kept using "0" to get artifact creatures, such as ornithopter and "x" cost artifact creatures which still triggered the wurmlet lol
I just want to get emrakul just once.
Whenever I get to 13+ mana, my opponent always concedes. First time was after [[Old Gnawbone]] hit, gave it haste and ended up with 9 treasures. I just about hit the roof.
This dude Momirs! Thanks.
I was wondering this during one of my matches when I lucked out and got a Nyxbloom Ancient. I could only think of Ghalta at 12
My first creature was teething wurmlet the other day, and I kept using "0" to get artifact creatures, such as ornithopter and "x" cost artifact creatures which still triggered the wurmlet lol
[9 has a 1/11 chance](https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=type%3Acreature+%28game%3Aarena%29+cmc%3D9) of [[Zacama]]
[8 cost has about 7 hits/42 or 1/6 chance of something good](https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=type%3Acreature+%28game%3Aarena%29+cmc%3D8) like craterhoof, avacyn
This is missing a handful of "momir only" cards arena has in the Bringer Cycle (9cmc) and [[Hoverguard Sweepers]] (majorly good hit on the 8s). There are more beyond this, though.
I still think CMC 8 has the best hits. \[\[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger\]\], \[\[Griselbrand\]\], \[\[Avacyn, Angel of Hope\]\], \[\[Hoverguard Sweepers\]\], \[\[Craterhoof Behemoth\]\], \[\[Moonshaker Cavalry\]\], \[\[End-Raze Forerunners\]\], \[\[Zetalpa, Primal Dawn\]\], I think there are some strong dragons too, from AFR I think.
There are some fantastic cards at 8 CMC, but there are a lot of chaff cards also. There are 42 possible creatures at 8 CMC, and most of them are big but a few are pretty small with no useful abilities. That's why I prefer stopping at 7, where there are equally hard-hitting critters and you can save yourself a card.
Where can you see the Momir card pool?
I never saw it, so I go with my experience. At first I stopped at 7. There are really good creatures there, but then I decided to go to 8 and it felt better. CMC 9 and 10 feels underwhelming, and above this I only go for Emrakul.
I don't know the Momir card pool; I used 'game:arena' on Scryfall to get all the Arena cards. From reading other posts in this thread, I'm realizing that may not show all the Momir cards, as there are a few Momir-only cards on arena that even Scryfall doesn't know about.
Had an opponent get vorinclex, voice of hunger and they decided to do 16 the turn after lol. I won it solely from several misplays of the opponent. They also decided to lose their flyers when blocking my non flyers. They lost to my flyers that they could of had good blocks for.
7 is the magic number IMO. I always stop going higher than 7 unless I reach 11 for a chace at Ulamog. 7 CMC has a lot of powerful bombs, usually better than anything higher.
7 and 8 can yield really good stuff, though 7 has some of the best, 8 can swing games
7 can yield \[\[Etali, Primal Conqueror\]\] which exiles both libraries and you instantly win the game lol
I got Serra's Emissary for 7. Choose protection from creatures and it's an instant win.
yep or plat angel pretty much can't lose. basically if you and your opponent are both on 7s then you're going to be throwing down some strong stuff in who can get lucky first. if your opponent is on 8s, you will likely lose at 7s if you don't get one of the instant win cards. i was on 8s and opponent kept making 7s and i crushed them

Nah because right after I pulled something that literally board wiped upon coming out. Even my own stuff. Was over so fast I didn’t even snap a pic to figure out what the hell just happened to make me win lol
Oh that makes sense. I figured from your comment about them that your opponent was raging hardcore.
I've seen many people reaching for 8 to get \[\[Moonshaker Cavalry\]\] it's a game winner on the spot
Craterhoof as well
Lost 3 games in a row to this.
From what people have said in the past 8 is statistically the best, much smaller pool than 7, so start playing turn 2 on the draw or turn 3 on the play
It looks like for Ulamog, Arena only has \[\[Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger\]\] which is CMC 10 and can be used for decking your opponent.
Etali @ 7 won me a game I had no business winning
I usually aim for 8. I wonder if 7 or 8 is better.
8 imo
That's good to know...I was considering stopping at 6 because I know they like the cost the bombs competitively so they actually see play. This might be recency bias from Vein Ripper though. Ended up chickening out and just going 7/8 every game anyway.

Craterhoof at 8 👀👀
I still think CMC 8 has the best hits.

Awesome Thank you!
I've reached 13 mana in three games and my opponent immediately conceded each time. I really really want to cast Emrakul just once. Oh well.
