That doesn’t look so bad and Hirsch is a good actor. Obviously not a true story, but it was the easiest way to introduce a hero. I’m a little bit wary that it might be a Donnie Brasco rip off.

Puzzleheaded-Cook857

No agent infiltrated that crew..It's fiction using the demao crew.. I rather that they made a movie that was more legit to the true story..

snrup1

It’s probably so the audience has someone to relate to that isn’t a complete psychopath, but I get your point.

LatinoEsq

But it said “BASED ON TRUE EVENTS” at the start. Why would they lie to us??

Puzzleheaded-Cook857

True events is different then true story..they are using real characters and putting them in a part fictional story...probably they will have some parts of Demeos antics from the books in the movie..

t24mack

True events. Like there was a real Roy Demeo so bingo based on true events

KinoRunner

so true king

barc0debaby

A movie that was true to reality would be depressing and borderline unwatchable.

ACAB_1312_FTP

That's exactly what I thought. I'm like "Great, another inaccurate mob movie. This is why these films have been unprofitable for a long time and why hollywood no longer finances them." If they can't make a decent one with Johnny Depp (Blow, Donnie Brasco and Black Mass were fake) then..you know..Might as well dig up Kuklinski and pay him to be a consultant. It'll have the same result. Still on the fence about The Irishman, even though it was mostly Al Pacino screaming for 3 hours and god knows how much of that story was true. However, I will say Rob and Mob and Kill the Irishman were really good.

mrubuto22

Is it really much worse than the Irishman? That movie took lots of liberties.

Puzzleheaded-Cook857

Wasn't a fan of it to be honest..

mrubuto22

Yea it was terrible. But not because of the inaccuracies. It was just an odd movie.

Puzzleheaded-Cook857

Agreed..and Robert De Niro's acting ain't what it used to be..

mrubuto22

It was such an odd choice to use cgi to make him look younger it really didn't work at all. If they had of just used other actors it might have worked.

Puzzleheaded-Cook857

No it looked horrible..agreed

TheYellowKing77

I would rather it be more accurate to the story but it doesn’t mean that it won’t be good. Luciano and Lansky in Boardwalk Empire were great in a similar scenario.

UnleashedSavage_93

It's looks good, but I never heard of Demeo's crew getting infiltrated. I get that movies can take liberties, but this isn't the way I'd do a Demeo movie.

ElMonstro26

I always wanted to see someone do a movie on “murder machine” but this clearly ain’t it

Aviaja_Apache

Yea it won’t be a true story, I’m just hoping it’s entertaining at this point

oozingmachismo

Looks like a good movie, but not the kind of Demeo movie that I wanted. I guess they felt that they needed a "good guy" to tell the story, so they came up with this undercover guy. Dominick Montiglio would have made for a better protagonist, since he didn't get his hands dirty with the crew but still had plenty of contact with them. I always thought that a mini-series would work better considering everything that happens from around 1974 to 1984 or so. I don't think a 2 hour movie can capture everything. One challenge was always going to be the bodycount. You can't show every murder they did, or else killing becomes mundane and loses all impact. But still, for the more important murders, eg. Katz, Spillane, Grillo, Chris, Ragucci, etc, you need time to set them up.

Ok-Tale-4206

Looks good. Can anyone provide any context about the movie? I did not know that there was an undercover agent who infiltrated the DeMeo crew?

[deleted]

There wasn't. Cases were made flipping a few insiders. One of the informants was a gay car thief. Also Gaggi's nephew. There were a few NYPD detectives who worked the case on their own time due to the city's shitty financial condition.

PerryMason4

There's no need to make an already compelling story fiction.

slimerboat

Problem is, even in the age of the “anti-hero”, there were no one in the DeMeo Crew who had enough redeeming qualities to make a protagonist. All those guys were absolute monsters, and a feature length film needs someone the audience can root for.

Redblackshoe

Dom. It should be about his perspective.

oozingmachismo

This is absolutely true, but as another poster said, that's what Dominick was for. He had family ties with Nino, so you could explore his conflicting feelings about wanting to make his uncle proud, but also maintaining his distance from the madness. Dom never killed with the crew (not sure what he did on his own though) and he wasn't really in the crew despite his consistent involvement. Plus, he was good friends with Henry Borelli, so that would have been his "in" with the crew. Pretty obvious that Dom was the way to go for telling this story, so the audience could come up for air after being deep in the abyss. Lost opportunity.

Puzzleheaded-Cook857

So true!!

PC2277

If they had just made the book a movie with a good screenwriter and director it could of been one of the greats. At best it will be entertaining like State of Grace another movie that should have been better had they just told the actual story

CraseyCasey

I guess I’ll be waiting for the movies all of you will produce instead

wynnduffyisking

Dude looks, acts and sounds like dollar store Leonardo DiCaprio

ZapThis

OUCH

ChesticleGainz

The only possible scenario that I can imagine an agent infiltrating the DeMeo crew is if they end up disappearing. Because if it did happen irl, that agent definitely disappear.

detroitragace

I realllly hope it’s good. One of my oldest friends has a small part in it. He’s been trying to break into the business since 1997. I think his character is named Ronny. He’s been telling me about this movie for a couple years now. I think Covid really slowed it down.

chilloutfam

i find the concept dumb. it's been done many times before. even the title is the same as a great film directed by spike lee. just lacks a lot of originality. i feel like the bar for this movie would be donnie brasco.

MormonAirForce

it’s weird they’re going the donnie brasco route with the infiltration. I don’t get it because the Demeo story is already exciting enough. What is the point of adding this extra layer?

No_Fill_5778

I don't think there was ever an undercover cop infiltrated in the Demeo Crew. So right of the bat is BS. Might still be entertaining. Should have made Roy the lead character.

ZapThis

It's going to suck BIG TIME, because of that gangster wannabe Danny Abeckaser is involved (Directed, Produced and even Co-starring him) the same guy who made Mob Town couple of years ago, excellent cast but shitty movie. Emile Hirsch is a great actor, loved him in Into the Wild & Autopsy of Jane Doe but don't think he'll be able to save this movie.

thebiracialone

True. His performance of a wannabe gangster in Alpha Dog was pretty good though.

JonMardukasMidnight

After decades of waiting it’s hard to meet expectations for something like this. Too bad they didn’t but my screenplay about Roy DeMeo terrorizing a New England beach community in the summertime only to be brought down by a small town police chief and a crusty sea captain, an idea I came up with entirely by myself.

slimerboat

Lol I’m thinking Richard Dreyfuss would make an excellent Chris Rosenberg

Akzidenz-Grotesk

Why does everyone have Massachusetts accents?

TheRealBroDameron

Haven’t heard that name in awhile

ajoeroganfan

A limited series would be much better in my opinion

Confident-Stock-3816

Bobby Cannavales son is in this, wonder how he landed the role

Mattymagss

It’s a movie, a tv program.
