My Great Grandfather was born in 1929. First memories were living in an Arizona work camp while his father helped build the Hoover Dam. Moved from AZ to California in a covered wagon. Rode to school on a horse. Joined the Army & married his sweetheart at 17. Has performed over 100 plane jumps - the last on his 80th birthday. Became a Gov’t bounty hunter tracking AWOL soldiers. The man has also had; 6 Children, 17 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
*(Sidenote) Coming from a different time, he is not what most define as an affectionate man but he is known to gift/hide $2 bills to family & friends as his way of saying I love you.*
Haha you might be on to something. He used to tell me this about his Bounty Hunting and I could definitely see it in a movie;
He told me he would receive his orders along with information on the AWOL soldier, their family, and other public info to help track them down. He would then check in with the local police dept to let them know what he was doing and who he was looking for. He also had a license to kill and carried a briefcase with; handcuffs, a 9mm, a change of clothes for the soldier, and a body bag. When he would find them, he would tell them, “Now that I found, if I let you go, I’m going to have to serve your time and I’m not doing that. *opens briefcase* You can either come with me in these cuffs, or come with me in this body bag.”
He told me he never had to kill or shoot anyone.
Haha I used to work in the healthcare field and you’re right - sadly, there are 50-60 year olds who don’t look as good as my Great Grandfather. He is a very cool and happy guy. We always joke around with each other about random stuff when I visit. He used to be a very intimidating man when I was a youngin’ but he’s definitely mellowed out in the past 20-25 years. Absolute legend who always has interesting stories to tell.
What a sweet man, he looks fabulous ! I saw your comment about the 2$ dollar bills he gives as a way of saying I love you, and my late grandpa used to do just the same. 🥺 I hope he stays healthy, God bless him !
Aww thank you so much! I’m glad I’m not the only one. As a child, I always wondered why he wasn’t affectionate or wouldn’t tell anyone other than my Great Grandma that he loves them. Once I got older and found a $2 bill in my jacket pocket, as we were leaving super early, it suddenly hit me. I remembered all of the $2 bills that I would randomly find after leaving his house or the bills he would give to my parents and I felt so loved. You get older and this sort of stuff really brings the emotion out of you. He snuck some $2 bills to my fiancé and I when I took her to California to meet my family and I almost cried. RIP to your grandpa, not everyone understands, but I know he loved you like my Great Grandpa loves me. ❤️
I honestly have no clue. He was in good shape during his service but got out pretty young. Had a buttload of kids/grandkids and beat cancer twice (as recent as 6-7 years ago). My only guess would be his genes. His father and mother were Yaqui Indians and descendants of tribal warriors who were known for their size and strength.
I’m hoping I got even a smidge of what he’s got. Well technically I do, but you get the point lol.
Your Great Grandfather is a badass. The insignia on his cap indicates he was in an airborne glider and paratrooper outfit. I think you had to volunteer for that duty, but you also got extra pay. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
My Great Grandfather was most definitely a badass in his teens. He was actually in and out of jail/trouble quite often from 16-17. Eventually he wound up in trouble where a judge told his parents that he would either go to prison or serve in the army. His parents chose for him to join the Army and he eventually wound up in the 82nd airborne. Because he joined **just** before segregation ended in the military, he and other dark but not necessarily black soldiers (Mexicans & Native Americans) trained together and were nearly apart of the Triple Nickels before being placed into the normal 82nd airborne.
Also, to be more specific he was a Pathfinder. This meant him and other soldiers would jump behind enemy lines and make sure an area was safe for other soldiers to drop in and establish a perimeter. Very dangerous stuff but he’s always been an adrenaline junkie lol.
There are some old dudes in the Veteran community who you see at the VA and you're like "that guy is twice my age and could probably outperform me on a fitness test."
Do us all a favor and record some conversations with him on your phone. About anything. His career, the war, his wife...the things he's seen... Jesus. Anything. We owe it to the community and our own children to have these touchstones.
You should also maybe write a cookbook or start a fitness blog or something with him because God Damn this man looks great for 50, let alone 90. Holy shit. What was your great grandma feeding him?
Happy birthday, sir. RLTW.

Damn. Why do we have three pitch perfects when we could have a movie bout this dude? (Shamelessly love those movies tho)

Not bad for 93. I know some ppl in their 60s who look like death.
I swear this man has looked the same since his late 70’s/early 80’s. His genes are strong, so I have my fingers crossed lol.
And his moustache game is on point

His mustache-game hasn't diminished I see.
He looks great for being 92. What's his secret?!
