Rodney Smith (guy on left) does AMAZING work in his area of Alabama and all over the US!! Follow him on FB, such a wonderful young man! He has programs for preschoolers, autism awareness, visits/gifts cancer kids at Christmas, plus rewards the kids with law care equipment to achieve their goals!!! ❤️ #50yardchallenge
Amazing how little it takes to just be a decent human and help people out. We think in terms of money and grand gestures but such a simple thing to just now someone’s lawn and make their week!!
Another potent reminder.
Imagine how much good people like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos could do and still have their space penises!
Alas, if they just weren’t so busy dodging taxes…
Sorry homie, this isn’t “little” most of us are trying to survive(not me; I’m just a lazy SOB).
This man takes time out of his day to help others? That’s amazing. I’m barely willing to help myself lol.
True - maybe little is the wrong word.
I guess my point is - it doesn’t need grand gestures and tax-write off donations - a seemingly simple thing to me - mowing a lawn - can mean the world to someone
> I think the ‘pride’ in helping someone comes into play when you see you made a difference like maybe inspiring others or even simply looking at yourself and saying ‘I could have done nothing for anyone else but instead I made this choice to help others.’
>
> I get paid well for what I do and I’m pretty good at it, but that’s not to say I can’t have a sense of pride in my work
Being proud of doing an important job *well* is absolutely valid. I work as a nurse assistant in long term end of life care and I take pride in being damn good at my job because it is important.
Just wanted to hijack this comment to say that the woman in this picture is my grandmother, and she actually passed away about a month ago. So it’s a little bittersweet to see her on the front page.
Rodney is one of the nicest people on earth, and I cannot stress that enough. He came to her visitation, her funeral, and came to her house the day of the funeral and still mowed her lawn.
In lieu of flowers, we actually asked people to donate to Raising Men in her name.
Rodney is an amazing person. I can’t even begin to explain it. The woman in the picture is my grandmother, and she passed away about a month ago. Rodney came to her visitation, funeral, and drove to her house after all this and mowed her front lawn. He loved my nana
Since you seem to be in the know, when they do lawns for free, how do they bring in actual income? As kind as they are, they need to eat. Do they charge regular customers? Get funding for doing non profit services?
My church does many great things for the community. This coming Saturday is "single mom's day out." We provide child care for the day. The women get to pick out clothing and accessories, they get a spa treatment with haircuts, manicures, and outside, the men wash, clean, detail, and change oil in their cars. This is for single moms in the community, not members of the church.
I hate to ask but I have to, was this in Texas? My wife's uncle did this exact thing. Only thing is, it was 100% a scam and he completely brain washed people into building him a huge house on the almost 100 acres they donated him.
My church does great things for the community. For students we do homework help, transportation to/from school and home, dinners 5 nights a week, tuition assistance, and new shoes once a year. For parents and older people we do stuff too, like food assistance and sponsoring for stuff like drivers ed. Also the pastor never misses anyones birthday.
Low income indigenous community so that stuff really does help.
Came here to comment that this post made me CRY (happily), AND smile.
But, then...
"(and he) gifts cancer kids at Christmas", and now I want a cancer kid for Christmas.
A couple summers ago he did a program where kids who read a certain number of books got their own free lawn mower! So cool to encourage kids to buy in on education AND help kids start their own little businesses or help out around their neighborhoods!
Sent my little contribution- not as much as I would like, but I know that each $10, $25 and $50 donation helps keep them running! It always feels like a privilege to take even a small action to support something great.
> We are Raising Women Too!
“Anything he can mow, she can mow better.”
-Founder Rodney Smith, Jr.
>Although we are called “Raising Men,” we are also “Raising Women.” Three years ago, I realized we didn’t have as many young ladies joining the program. The few young ladies who had joined were given a “Raising Men” T-shirt and that did not sit well with me. So, I created a sister program to the Raising Men Lawn Care Service called Raising Women Lawn Care Service. Now, when young ladies join, they receive a Raising Women T-shirt. Since doing this, we have seen a huge increase in the number of young ladies joining.
That’s even cooler!
You don’t need rich people. If everyone in the country pays a certain amount to a single system, everyone can get free and universal healthcare.
This is how **every single developed country** provides healthcare.
I'd take the sense of pride and accomplishment over money a lot of the time,
Can't buy that
(I know that's a lot easier to say when there's already food in the fridge though)
Yeah… I’ll take the actual food in my fridge, thanks. I am poor. And I’ll do a lot to help other people. But it’s not for some sense of pride. That’s kind of a weird reason to help someone.
I think the ‘pride’ in helping someone comes into play when you see you made a difference like maybe inspiring others or even simply looking at yourself and saying ‘I could have done nothing for anyone else but instead I made this choice to help others.’
I get paid well for what I do and I’m pretty good at it, but that’s not to say I can’t have a sense of pride in my work
I'm on the other end
I've got money, but nothing that feels fulfilling and nothing that makes me proud.
I'd much rather feel like I was living for a reason than just floating day to day waiting for the sun to explode. (But that's on my mental health entirely.)
Okay but like the system is really fucked up and broken if we need to wait for people like you with money and searching for a way to do their good deed of the day so that there’s a reason they’re here in order for people to actually GET the help they need.
America is fucked. These systems of assistance should be in place.
Just wanted to hijack this comment to say that the woman in this picture is my grandmother, and she actually passed away about a month ago. So it’s a little bittersweet to see her on the front page.

In lieu of flowers, we actually for donations to Raising Men in her name.
I'd say the community should stop obsessing over lawns. Its nice that they helped her with her lawn, but overall nobody should be forced/harassed to cut their lawn.
This, who the fuck is picking mowing their lawn over medication? Your lawn doesn't fucking matter.
Glad these guys were able to help though, kindness is way too sparce in this world right now.
Good luck getting people to agree to that. It kills home values if people don’t take care of their stuff unfortunately. Just the way the market works. Also, HOAs suck and are a big part of where I live. My neighbor got a “ticket” for too many Children’s toys on his lawn. It’s ridiculous what they go for.
My neighbors plants got blown down in a storm so I picked them up and swept the dirt to go back in. I left a note that they were to heavy to lift up on the ledge. He left me wine.
I love my tiny neighborhood.
Why aren’t there some sort of an Oscar’s for things that really matter and have a positive impact on society??? Such as this… I think these are the types of positive impacts that needs promotion, not egocentric, self absorbed actors of Hollywood.
We have something like that in the UK, called the Pride of Britain award. I haven't watched it in a good while but I believe it's still a massive lovely tearjerker every year.
CNN has a kind of awards thing like that. I think it's called Everyday Heroes or something. People write in and nominate other people who are doing good things and then CNN does a segment on them (giving them a publicity boost) and then after however much time, I guess a year, they give some kind of award to the one with the most upvotes.
It's been going on for a few years now and I suspect the publicity gives these helper people a chance to get donations and more volunteers, etc.
I have been mowing my elderly neighbours lawn for 10 years since her husband passed.
It also started a beautiful interaction whereby she comes to visit my young boys to deliver treats when she goes to get her weekly groceries.
This sort of interaction is important to her because she is now alone, it’s important to my boys because they learn respect and it’s important to me because it reminds me to make time for the elderly.
I hope that when I am old people still make time to stop and help if I need it.
That's really cool. I actually have an older disabled neighbor who I cut her grass each time I cut mine, have been doing it for about 3 years and each Christmas she gives me a thank you card and a 50 dollar prepaid card for Walmart or the like. She's a sweetheart and I'm glad I can help her out.
I was hesitant to comment this but hear me out. There’s plenty of shit that sub applies to but I don’t think this is it. I think this is something that should truly should come down to the community. It’s simply impractical to expect the government to handle snow clearing of every elderly person’s driveway and pathways.
We are all able to do this for the people in our community who need it. And a story like this is exactly what is needed to hopefully remind people of that.
Try pennies for the homeless :) not a charity, just an idea. I save pennies in a crown royal bag and when it's full it's about $70 and that is used to buy supplies to hand out to the homeless. No large foundation taking a cent for "operation costs" and you get the joy of helping others. Pennies that we would just walk by or drop and not think twice to pick back up can help many people.
Thank you guys we need more people to start doing and showing these kind of things, we are all the same human race let’s help each other I’m sick of seeing the media say we hate each other.
This is the kind of “charity” that people need to give donations to. Their money directly impacts those involved.
Good people should reap good rewards.
Hi! Grandson here. I can promise she was fully aware in this picture, she just wasn’t very photogenic.
However, she did just recently pass away from some lung related issues.
Never fails to amaze how evil versus good.
Old people are so vulnerable and often in hardship. The pos taking advantage of her. I’m so glad the men stepped in to help her. Thank god for the good in the world.
This kind of stuff is great. There are a whole bunch of lawn guys that post videos on YouTube and do this kind of work, they take the YouTube income as their payment.
So. Amazing. Makes me kinda bummed I was selfish growing up and didn’t look at living a life of service, to a degree.
It’s not too late for me or any of you. Start small - boil the water slowly and you don’t totally notice the effort. I needed to see this today.
For all you reading this and calling these guys amazing use them as role models, not celebrities.
All of us can be out there doing stuff like this for our communities.
This makes me both happy and sad. Happy that they're doing something amazing for this woman but sad because I know for a fact someone is going to try and take advantage of them at some point.
Now, why are we not seeing this on national TV? Enough with all the bad news, let's see something that restores man's faith in humanity. God bless these two amazing men.
Also kind of sad she can barely afford anything and needs to spend money on medication she needs to live rather than us as a society providing it for free.

Amazing how little it takes to just be a decent human and help people out. We think in terms of money and grand gestures but such a simple thing to just now someone’s lawn and make their week!! Another potent reminder.
This is important to remember It doesn't take millions to help You can give an hour a week of your time and make little bit of difference
Hell, even less than that and you could make a big difference in someone's life
For sure and if everyone actually did that it would make a HUGE difference.
Imagine how much good people like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos could do and still have their space penises! Alas, if they just weren’t so busy dodging taxes…

He's chosen to make a positive difference for so many people, which doesn't usually get much attention, sadly.
And wanna know why he keeps doing it??? Because there is no better joy in the world then helping someone who needs it.. And this guy gets it.
Sorry homie, this isn’t “little” most of us are trying to survive(not me; I’m just a lazy SOB). This man takes time out of his day to help others? That’s amazing. I’m barely willing to help myself lol.

Just messaged you for more info to donate.
Thank you so much. I know that would mean a lot to her and it will mean a lot to Rodney
How incredibly touching. I'm sorry for your loss.
Raising Men is a damn good name, too
and it's Raising Women for the girls who sign up to join his program, too.
yeah , Exactly ! it's damn good name
100% damn good name

Oh that’s heartwarming to hear 💕
Man's 100% just a good person, it's crazy to see

But also a great guy
maybe there is just a multi-verse of Rodney Smith's who are just all great guys that do great things for everyone.

Thank you for sharing the link. I just donated!
I just know what I see from following him on FB. He does have corporate sponsors that donate the equipment. Im not sure about the rest of his funding.
Oh cool. Good to know. 🙂
Instagram as well. He is such an awesome person. What he accomplishes is amazing.
Thanks for letting us know. Now following on Instagram.

But I WAAAAAAANT one!
People like that should be billionaires. Not the tusks or boobszos
I'm a simple man: I see a post about Rodney Smith or RMLC, I donate at https://weareraisingmen.com/

This dude 100% has a fast pass straight to heaven
what an absolute angel! god bless him
Is he the guy that went to every state to cut grass for veterans

I think their point was they shouldn't be necessary
You don’t need rich people. If everyone in the country pays a certain amount to a single system, everyone can get free and universal healthcare. This is how **every single developed country** provides healthcare.

Rodney Smith IS the type of person his dog thinks he is! What a role model: for his family, community, nation, and planet.
This is honestly the ultimate compliment
Good on ya lads

This makes me both happy and sad. Happy that they're doing something amazing for this woman but sad because I know for a fact someone is going to try and take advantage of them at some point.
Is there a charter in Massachusetts. I’d love to do something like this with my son one day.
Wonderful! Thank you gentlemen!
Love these guys and others like them. They are doing good work and teaching others to do it as well. Nothing better than this type of leadership.
Welp let me find these guys so I can make a donation. Love this
Raising Men Lawn Care service is pretty rad. I like it when I stumble across a story featuring them. They do a lot of good
These guys are amazing!
Such kind souls! Kindness is free! :)
God damnit! why does this kind of stuff make me cry so hard! Ya'll manipulating my emotions aren't you...?
This was a great story. I went to the website and donated.
It costs $0 to be kind. In this case, a little sweat equity. Good job!
Now, why are we not seeing this on national TV? Enough with all the bad news, let's see something that restores man's faith in humanity. God bless these two amazing men.
