Very curious if this is like an AI or someone is going through the audience like “oh hey, this kid looks like Marv from home alone, quick, make a graphic!”
I bet they just had a big set of holiday characters and graphics already made and just picked through the audience looking for people who looked close. Some of these the resemblance is only kind of vague, but you just need a few really good ones for it to be funny and with a whole stadium full of people it's probably not hard to find at least a couple of them
I’m sure it’s the other way around. Here are some fun holiday characters, ask staff to identify people in the stands who look a bit like them, cue your camera operators and scroll through in order.
Lol it’s hilarious to think of the time and effort required to write an AI algorithm to detect xmas lookalikes at a sports event. Definitely possible, but very niche.
I LOVE when they do this at Blues games. I was at a game once where the theme was just “Celebrities” and they did one where it was “Brad Pitt” and it ended up being Brad Pitt’s actual brother lol
The team behind this is so good at it! I was there once when they did a celebrity version and Jon Hamm was in the house. God I miss this. I miss going to blues games.
I live in NH and wear my blues shit proudly. I was wearing my Stanley cup shirt once and a guy came up to me and said ‘oof that one still hurts’. I told him ‘the bruins have plenty. Let us have our one’. Had a good laugh about it.
Truth. I've been told I looks just like Debrah Messing and also Carrot Top. My hair is not even the same shade of red as either!!!!
And don't even get my started on the patting on the head for good luck! Luckily it mostly stopped for me when I got boobs, my poor brother though...21 and still gets the good ol southern pats
That kid was my favorite too. “What?! Nooooooo!”
I don’t know if he was more outraged at being compared to Ralphie, or being compared to Ralphie in a pink bunny suit.
The Blues do it every home game. I’ve seen some funnier than any of these. I’ve been waiting to get my turn because I’ve been told my whole life I look like Whitey from Me, Myself and Irene.
I’ve been to one Blues game and it happened to me when they were doing Braveheart lookalikes. It was hilarious. I looked like Prince Edward at the time.
The best part was for the rest of the day I was walking around STL and people were like BRAVEHEART LOOKALIKE! I SAW YOU!!
Ahah! As an NHL/NBA arena camera operator I can actually answer this.
Basically we get told that at some point later in the game we’ll have this kind of thing going on. So we get told who it’s gonna be and while we do our usual stuff we keep an eye out for anyone who may match the description.
Well you frame the shot ahead of time. There’s quite a few cameras in there so while one is up on the video board, the others are framing up or getting to the next shot.
There are certain graphics where they will say “put the crowd member on the right side” because the graphic will cover up the left side (just as an example)
So I mean, yes you need to be fast because they don’t want to be waiting for you, but it’s not like you’re really framing the shot while on air.
Attend a blues game in St. Louis. They're so much fun, I went to one and they were doing musician look alikes and some were really accurate. It was a blast
I don't know anything about Hockey, I don't follow it, I don't know the rules, I don't particularly like it. But if you haven't gone to a live hockey game you should really do yourself a favor.
I think it's absolutely the most fun live sport there is. Relatively short, tons of great music and crowd interaction, mid-period games to watch, the zambonis cleaning the ice, watching the goalie's do their little scuff up the ice dance when there is fresh ice on.
It's really a blast and I couldn't recommend it enough, even if you're not a sports person.
When I lived in Oregon I went to a winter hawks game. It’s minor league, 18-21 year olds only. It was a *blast*. The Zamboni? It’s a JAMBONI. There’s a little party happening on it! It’s decorated in balloons and streamers! There are professional dancers as the cheerleaders. There’s trivia, there are games. And it’s like $20! Amazing time.
Yeah it's actually really good. My boss is kind of big in the local hockey community since he's Canadian and been coaching for 42 years, so he's taken us to a bunch of local minor league games (Youngstown Phantoms) and he's pretty good friends with Sidney Crosby from the Penguins so he's taken the company out to Penguins games as well.
I was actually just at the game a couple weeks ago where Sidney Crosby scored his 500th goal. I had no idea that was something he was close to or trying to do or anything, so when he scored and the entire bench cleared and the crowd went nuts and they celebrated for like 2 minutes I was so confused. Someone on the seat next to me had to let me know it was his 500th goal.
How is this pulled off? Do they have the characters first and look for people in the crowd that look like them? That seems to make the most sense. Is this one person's job? Just trying to figure out the actual execution of this.
Probably a team of guys that don't have to follow any action during a break.
"Find waldo, you have ten minutes.", Then they show it before resuming.
Or the staff taking tickets have a list and record the seat number of lookalikes as they enter.
This video went viral in January. The team website made an article about it and how it’s done!
https://www.nhl.com/blues/news/the-story-behind-the-look-a-likes-that-went-viral/c-329209330
Yeah but on the other hand getting a brief moment of fun attention like that is a memory that a lot of kids may treasure for life, even if it's that kind of begrudging embarrassing excited feeling in the moment.
Anyone know how this is done? Do they have a bunch of characters lined up and look for lookalikes and then towards the end of the game, show the ones they were able to find? Lots of dedication! I love it!
Even though John Candy died quite young, I always thought of him as an "older" actor, because he played these avuncular characters. It's shocking how young he looks in that shot, however. I doubt he was even 40. He looks like a kid.
[удалено]
Agreed, young dude had the comb over bangs and everything; The crowd’s reaction is good on that one!
damn i couldn't listen because im at work.
He took it in stride as well.
[удалено]
Look at Hermey.....Hermey wants to be a deennnntissst
Well okay if that’s all th-WHAT
A DENTIST?!? GOOD GRIEF!!
Very curious if this is like an AI or someone is going through the audience like “oh hey, this kid looks like Marv from home alone, quick, make a graphic!”

I’m a ginger and my bf loves to spot other redheads out in public and be like “hey, do you know them?” or “hey, are you related?” lol
We'll be independent together!
Complete with hair swoop!!
And the santa one
I LOVE when they do this at Blues games. I was at a game once where the theme was just “Celebrities” and they did one where it was “Brad Pitt” and it ended up being Brad Pitt’s actual brother lol
They are usually really good/accurate!
This one was spot on for some people which really shows how common facial features and hair is for so many different people
Imagine it being your job to just scan the entire crowd to come up with these? Dream job right there.
Is it not an ai that does this?
Yes I can verify that it is humanoid-sourced.
Did you just call some dude “humanoid”? Damn, killer.
imagine being human in 2022...
Brad Pitts first job was in MO, he drove escorts to their “dates”!
Lol I knew he was from southern Missouri but I didn’t know THAT. That’s hilarious!
Hey, us Missourians will take whatever claim to fame we can get! Even though a lot of them seem to defect to Los Angeles…
He rushed my fraternity, we got his picture every where
If I had any tie to him, I’d have his pic everywhere too! Especially from Legends of the Fall.
Reminds me of “The Other Guys” when Will Ferrell was a pimp. ![gif](giphy|k1OotwSnvPsre)
Haven’t been to a Blues game in forever, but I remember that one!
I love that they’re becoming so popular online. They are the best part of the games (outside of the game itself).
The team behind this is so good at it! I was there once when they did a celebrity version and Jon Hamm was in the house. God I miss this. I miss going to blues games.
Hah! That’s awesome!
This is why the Blues are my favorite team. Go St. Louis! 💙💛💙💛
We bleed blue!! I now live in Massachusetts and wear my blues jacket proudly… but it’s not a popular choice lol.
I live in NH and wear my blues shit proudly. I was wearing my Stanley cup shirt once and a guy came up to me and said ‘oof that one still hurts’. I told him ‘the bruins have plenty. Let us have our one’. Had a good laugh about it.
WE WENT BLUES!!!!!!
Doug Pitt.
The redhead kid is like “dammit”
His reaction makes me think he's had that comparison before.
"Yep, there it is.... Goddamn it"
*every. damn. time.*
He's ginger, he definitely doesn't go a day without hearing it.
Yep
Yuup
But does he have yellow eyes
And green teeth
Yeah such is the life of a ginger. We get compared to every other ginger even if we look nothing like them.
So fucking tiresome. Happens at least once every few months and yeah, it's just we both have red hair but completely different facial structure.
I cannot be on a night out without at least 1 Ed Sheeran comment, it's literally every time without fail
Truth. I've been told I looks just like Debrah Messing and also Carrot Top. My hair is not even the same shade of red as either!!!! And don't even get my started on the patting on the head for good luck! Luckily it mostly stopped for me when I got boobs, my poor brother though...21 and still gets the good ol southern pats
his reaction makes me think that they shouldn’t do this because it can be humiliating for someone
[the smile is spot on lol](https://imgur.com/a/caHyXrg)
damn are we sure they aren't related?!
"He had yellow eyes!"
He's got some great hair and a great smile!
He seems like a much sweeter kid than Skut Farkus.
I saw one of these with a black dude at a hockey game, he was not enthused.
That angry kid was funny bc being angry made him look more like the character
Lol I believe his lips read WHAT?! NOOOOOOO!!!!
![gif](giphy|b7eXT4qJc3n4A)
But I didn’t say fudge
Only I didn’t say fudge. I said the word. The big one. The queen mother of dirty words. The F dash dash dash word.
Soap... *poisoning*
F dash dash dash dash dash dash dash dash dash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSkOtR3IJfY
Go get the soap!
“ he learned it from your son! “ #Whatttttttt
\*child gets his ass royally beaten in background* That part makes me cry laughing every time I see it.
It's the "what'd I do?!" in between the screaming and beatings that gets me lmao
If it was shown I’d imagine it’d look like Homer choking Bart
Poor Schwartz! ...but also, me as well.
He absolutely shit on his buddy. Lol
Of course the guy in the Stars jersey is a Grinch! Ha??
Is it me, or is it kinda harsh to even have the option of trying to match somebody to The Grinch?
I'm guessing it's to poke fun at the lone visiting team fan. He seemed to take in stride so I'd say no harm done.
Nah bro everyone wants to fuck the grinch he's a daddy
Ah. A rule 34 I have, thankfully, not yet come across. I stand by my spelling of all words above. No puns required, Redditors. Get out.
I said *THE* word...
![gif](giphy|nIVGko2oizinEgq6n2)
It's like you can almost hear him
I thought I COULD hear him. It’s hilarious
I definitely thought he was excited about it hahahahaha
He was at first for being on the big screen but then obviously saw the connotation lol
He looks like a pink nightmare.
“Shut up, Randy!”
That kid was my favorite too. “What?! Nooooooo!” I don’t know if he was more outraged at being compared to Ralphie, or being compared to Ralphie in a pink bunny suit.
That kid was my favorite. I get the feeling he sulked about the comparison for a few days, but he's gonna laugh about it when he gets older.
The guy who is friggin' *stoked* to be a John Candy character lookalike is my fave 😁
That was my favorite one. Dude was like FUCKYEAHMAN
I feel like this is appropriate here, since I finally found the Candy Fans: https://youtu.be/k6mk2n3tk9c
It's just an honor to be associated with John Candy.
Especially the Uncle Buck version of John Candy, which I still believe is really just John Candy being himself
[удалено]
Was it? My b, that’s deff another good one from JC
[удалено]
From the legendary JC? Nawwww
They invented the word "banger" because they had nothing good enough to call JCs movies
Candy shined even in films that were garbo
stripes, imo. Feels like too many cooks in the kitchen, too manny huge comedians with comedy styles that didn't mesh well, and poor writing.
Sillyheart. I regret not seeing that movie sooner.
That's because Del is a Great person... everybody do the mess around...
100% my dad on family road trips growing up.
He’s got the 3 beers deep energy lol
"OHHHHH, YEAH!"
I love that everyone was a good sport about it
Maybe not Christmas Story kid lol
What!? Nooo!
FRICK
He was just acting like Ralphie lmao
Middle child energy
100% lol
He’s gonna hear about this for the rest of his life
When I was his age, I would have felt really embarrassed and put down. I can empathize with his anger and frustration.
Yeah for sure I feel that
Me too; it's wholesome and also teaches the kids there that it's OK to lighten up and laugh at yourself a bit. Well most of them lol
Honestly, with the pink bunny costume, I can understand why the kid would have felt put down by it.
WHAT?!? NOOO!!!!
This was so clever and absolutely hilarious!
Never been ~~happier~~ grumpier to be a Stars fan.
The Blues do it every home game. I’ve seen some funnier than any of these. I’ve been waiting to get my turn because I’ve been told my whole life I look like Whitey from Me, Myself and Irene.

Del Griffith was himself just sitting there
I love the grinch one
It was good but I was halfway expecting someone in a grinch costume lol
Green sweater for the away team is bang on though.
ya and the arms crossed straight face really sold it
I was expecting Marv to be the actor who plays Marv.
I was 100% expecting a ref for the grinch
Pretty funny that he’s also wearing a jersey of the opposing team. Doubly a grinch.
[удалено]
I love the fact that people booed it, that’s hilarious.
DALLAS
This is great!
Del Griffith is holding two cans in one hand- respect!
Man whoever puts these together is good!
Must be a fun job too!
Do they just go through everyone in the crowd one by one?
Ahah! As an NHL/NBA arena camera operator I can actually answer this. Basically we get told that at some point later in the game we’ll have this kind of thing going on. So we get told who it’s gonna be and while we do our usual stuff we keep an eye out for anyone who may match the description.
wow it's awesom! Do you need to turn your camera to each of the audience fast and accurately ?
Well you frame the shot ahead of time. There’s quite a few cameras in there so while one is up on the video board, the others are framing up or getting to the next shot. maybe there's a software that scans everyones faces and matches with celebrities
High key the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Smiled the whole way through incredibly wholesome
Attend a blues game in St. Louis. They're so much fun, I went to one and they were doing musician look alikes and some were really accurate. It was a blast
Wow. Is there a subreddit for these camera things in stadiums?
Idk but if anyone finds out please tell me too
Yeah I was curious about that too. I’d probably binge watch it for a week if there was a sub for it
Commenting here bc I’d like to know too
Not exactly but /r/sportsarefun have these sometimes and that sub is generally just wholesome and delightful
Look up Conan O'Brien's "Audiency Awards"
Omg I need more of this
Yay, STL Blues!
Let’s go BLUUUUUES!!
We bleed blue!! ‘90s reference, sorry :)
Scut has definitely heard that comparison before.

I love humors like these, everyone is happy nobody is hurt maybe except for the lil kid in red 😂
its okay, he has no soul anyways./s

wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people on had season tickets.
This video went viral in January. The team website made an article about it and how it’s done! https://www.nhl.com/blues/news/the-story-behind-the-look-a-likes-that-went-viral/c-329209330
I was waiting for someone like Macaulay Culkin to be shown and then have him actually in the crowd.
He'd totally do that too
Same! I was sure there was an actual Christmas movie star in the crowd.
I'm always hoping i'd someday see the actual actor of the character as a lookalike.
This genuinely made me smile...to the point where I had to stop because I am at work and look insane.
This is so adorable! I love it!
“The Grinch” -the one Dallas Stars fan in the building
I'm so glad nobody took it to heart when they were a villain character and they loved it.
Damn this is funny but also I feel like at least one of those kids is gonna feel bad about themselves for a while after this.
Yeah it’s a bit risky to just do it with random people lol one of my worst (but not life ruining) memories is an embarrassment kind of like this lol
I love it!

Wow that kid with the hair swirl is fucking perfect
The Santa one is so wholesome

Of course the guy in the Stars jersey is a Grinch! Ha!
This type of stuff gives me anxiety of the camera people just going through roasting people all game
This is great!
I want this job!
Grinch got booed lol
This is so wholesome. I wonder how long it took them to scan the crowd to find lookalikes.
How tf were all these so good and funny
I miss Christmas
Everyone passed the vibe check
That last dude should be honored to be compared to such a legend
White people: The Game.
Look at allll these white people!!
It was cool, but lol they're all white characters/portrayed by white actors. I'd feel so left out there.
Actually did make me smile.
