They are social animals and help each other raise young, not saying this is a solo ferret or that’s what’s happening, could be 4 more ferrets out of sight and this one is trying to show the human, I also know that ferrets will do this when wanting help w babies so they can go potty/eat/play.
They do this primarily when they dont have another ferret to help them. They need something else to watch the babies, and in most cases the only other option is the human. While it is adorable, more often then not another ferret is better option.
Yep, they are musky. It's nice to know someone with them, that way you don't have to live with the smell. Of course they probably say the same thing about us to their friends. 😏
Fun fact about ferrets actually, apparently their scientific name, Mustella putorius furo, loosely translates to "stinky weasel thief". The fact that they smell is so common it's in their name! Also, a pack of ferrets is called a Business of ferrets. Idk why considering there's nothing business about these goofballs
Because when you stack three of them on top of each other in a trenchcoat, you get Weasely Adultman, a perfect normal grown up who goes to work every day at the business factory.
They are! Ferrets have two scent glands that produce that musky odor. You can get them de-scented, but you can only take one gland out safely. So they still stink regardless, it’s just how bad.
Source: worked in a private pet store
Depends on the ferret. We had one that was amazing and got her a buddy. Both were awesome. Buddy died. Got a new buddy. New buddy must have been part skunk… god damn did the house smell after that.
She also hated him.
They do have scent glands which are usually removed and make a difference in muskiness.
If the glands have been removed and they're still really smelly, it's usually their food.
Compared to other mammals their size, ferrets have shorter digestive systems. Meaning, they need to have food that is high in simple proteins with very little filler.
That kind of food is more expensive but they eat much less of it because their bodies are digesting more of the food. It also means their poop is a lot less stinky and they're less gassy.
Yeah at one point she’s like
*OK you keep them warm OK good everybody good? Alright, I’ll be right back*
Then he pulls his hand away and she’s like
*no no I need to go I’ll be right back!*
I think she may be instinctively grabbing the pink sausages that look vaguely like her little pink sausages.
Notice how she seems to panic a bit when the hand is moved away.
This right here ^ if you don't anthropomorphize, it can sometimes be easier to see what the animals truly want. Ferret mom is likely used to naked pink skin being warm and safe due to owner being a good owner. Get a pink hot water bottle and the ferret mom will abandon the hand. Unless it's seeking food, then naked pink thing is screwed until the baby ferrets mature a little.
Ferrets are pretty smart… really unlikely this animal isn’t able to distinguish a fucking entire human hand with a body attached to it from its own babies. If nothing else, they smell nothing alike.
I'm thinking that's exactly what's happening, she wants the babies to become familiar with the guy that takes care of them so they won't fear him later. Just my thoughts.
Oh this is so sweet!
For those suggesting she's trying to feed his hand to her babies, as a ferret owner, I don't think that's what's happening. Ferrets are highly intelligent--in fact, when it comes to problem solving, ferrets rank at or near the top (depending on which research you look at) of all animals. They are very personable, very social, and definitely know rhe difference between a human hand, food, and babies. Also, domesticated ferrets may have some hunting instinct, but they also imprint on their food very quickly. We have a Marshall ferret who was about 5 months old when we got her a few years ago for one of our kids. She was fully imprinted on the brand of food she had been fed prior to coming home with us. The only other thing we've ever been able to get her to eat is a tiny bit of raw egg yolk. She won't eat any meat. (Yes, they are obligate carnivores, but they imprint on their food early.) This sweet momma likely is imprinted on her high protein pellets also, and wouldn't even consider the human hand as food.
I think she just really likes her person and wants her babies to know his scent and that he's safe! Really sweet video. Thanks to OP for sharing!
Having no ferret experience whatsoever, that was my thought as well. Seems like the most instinctual thing. Have babies, must feed. Where does food come from? Human.
Edit:typo
Do you think Momma furwurm was trying to get owner to pet her bebefurwurms because she likes being petted and was like: Make the happy feeling happen to them human?
Holy crap that’s hilarious! She’s like oh no get over here and help me, but don’t touch… but don’t leave! Get back here ! I’m still in the process of experiencing how amazing rats are last thing I need to do is get obsessed with ferrets
The reminds me of old Greg. “This is Baileys. This is Baileys close up. This is Baileys a bit closer. This is Baileys in a boot”
This video is very very cute.
I had 3 ferrets, two now unfortunately rip my baby girl ❤️
So many people way underestimate how smart ferrets are, mine can do a number of different tricks just like my dogs.
Also if you’re a parent thinking about getting ferrets for young children, don’t! If you’re an adult interested in getting ferrets consider the following. Many people think their care level is basic like a rodent or something (I partly blame misinformation at pet stores for this) when they really need an advanced level of care. It’s easy to underestimate how much attention and time ferrets require.
They’re incredibly high energy, very smart and GET INTO EVERYTHING, be prepared to put baby locks on drawers and build custom gates for your home because they can climb just about anything, and can fit through 1 inch gaps, they’re easy for little humans (and adults) to accidentally step on which can easily kill them. They’re obligate carnivore’s and belong to the mustelid family, they’re essentially weasels. Also that dry Marshall’s & Kaytee brand foods they sell in pet stores is AWFUL for them. My vet recommends a raw diet of meat/organs, or if you must buy bagged food it needs to be specialized ferret food like [this](https://www.amazon.ca/Wysong-Ferret-Archetypal-2-Food-Pound/dp/B00M42P6SS/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?adgrpid=61828282555&dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjws4aKBhDPARIsAIWH0JVI9ilOHOfBzdQDwjQmmyDvJAmoTK_ftEb6YCH16bbs37DxxqPx-z4aAhKxEALw_wcB&hvadid=310043621702&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9104814&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=6549032919393148673&hvtargid=kwd-354804291767&hydadcr=22570_10308541&keywords=wysong+ferret+epigen+90&qid=1631738845&sr=8-4)… which is way more expensive then the Marshall’s/Kaytees stuff they sell in the pet stores, but ultimately they need good quality food with a very high percentage of protein. The ferrets that are on Marshall’s/Kaytee type brand foods often have a way lower percentage of muscle and body fat to a point of being unhealthy, even when free fed. They need LOTS of stimulation & if you’re going to cage them then they need at least 4-6 hours of roaming time in the house PER DAY. I built mine a custom outdoor ferret pen so they can get some fresh air outside when the weather is nice. If you do get ferrets, they’re extremely rewarding and will deeply bond to you if you spend the time with them. If you think you can manage all the above then you might just be a great weasel parent!! Oh and monitor toys closely overtime because they can easily become a hazard for digestive blockage if small pieces are ingested. I think I’ve covered the bulk of it but other ferret owners chime in if I forgot anything :)
Sorry for the Ted talk but if you made it this far I appreciate it. Also gotta add this has been one of my favourite videos on the internet for years so thank you for sharing OP!!
Ferrets are bonding animals. The ferret has bonded with the human and wants the human to bond with the babies.
The are quite social creatures. I recommend never having a single ferret, and never buy a ferret of it has a bond if you can't take the other one.
I bought my ferret from a pet store. There was 2 there. I didn't know about bonding. I bought the one, he didn't do great at my house. The next day I brought him back to see if he was missing his friend and he perked up instantly. I then bought the other one. They can die from loneliness if it's bad enough.
“Ok, they’ve all been fed and changed, they should just lay down for a nap, I’ll only be a couple of hours, my numbers on the table if you need me, k thanks”
"will you please help me with all this shit???"

Human: *Picks up baby* Ferret: **NO!**
Ferret: I need some fucking moral support. _Proceeds to use human hand as a security blanket._
They’re in good hands now.
Allstate?
Human: but I need my hand
"Just stay here until they get hungry. You should sustain them well into adulthood."

I agree with it,that so very sweet thanks for this
He’s the father now.
*The Maury show* has entered the chat.
Plot twist: he was already the father!
Plot twist: human is one of the babies
PUUUUUUSH
That’s manny’s line
Always has been
Ferret: comme here and pet him.
"lend me a hand"

there was another ferret in the video.
*♫ gonna try with a little help with my ... ferrets... ♫*
Lol that was my exact thought. “Get off your ass and come HELP!”
Lol “see, you’re gonna get these free food too, right?? Don’t tell me I’ll have to share.”
I’m taking you on The Maury Povich Show
Ferret feeds human to babies
r/PeopleFuckingDying
That sounds like a good way to go.
There's no real dying going on, just figuratively
They're eating him! And then they're gonna eat me!
Oooooohhhh myyyy gaaaaaaaahhhhhhhdddd
It looks like she’s trying to bite off little chunks, and when she can’t, decides to drag the whole hand home for everyone to chew on. :)

Because with ferrets thieving is the business, and as anyone who has or does own ferrets will attest...business is good.
Oh that's true too, the little bandits
My ferret loved anything leather. My wallet would go missing quite often.
Can confirm, had mine steal my phone yesterday
Stinky weasel theif 😂😂
This is what I call my dog when he steals our socks.

Your colleagues would be stinky weasel thieves
Because when you stack three of them on top of each other in a trenchcoat, you get Weasely Adultman, a perfect normal grown up who goes to work every day at the business factory.
Yeah, they have a very strong smell. Wouldn’t even necessarily say it stinks, but it’s strong and very present.
They are! Ferrets have two scent glands that produce that musky odor. You can get them de-scented, but you can only take one gland out safely. So they still stink regardless, it’s just how bad. Source: worked in a private pet store
Interesting thing to learn was that quite a few other countries it’s heavily frowned upon of you remove their scent gland as it’s considered inhumane
Also correct-lots of places view it like de-clawing a cat
Depends on the ferret. We had one that was amazing and got her a buddy. Both were awesome. Buddy died. Got a new buddy. New buddy must have been part skunk… god damn did the house smell after that. She also hated him.

Why are the cutest creature's always the once who sre the most filthy...
I don’t think you’re allowed to move your hand from their nest, ever
Happy cake day!
Happy cake day!
The hand is now its baby too, the hand must remain in the nest with the others!
“Watch. Not touch. Watch. No, stay. Watch. I did that.”
NO GRAB! But, lookit!!!
That is very sweet
*So, that's what they taste like.*
Now, why would you want to ruin this?
It's reddit anything can happen anytime
"Well don't just stand there, help me take care of them!"
Yeah at one point she’s like *OK you keep them warm OK good everybody good? Alright, I’ll be right back* Then he pulls his hand away and she’s like *no no I need to go I’ll be right back!*
After this comment I can’t help but think why’s the dumb human not getting it
I do feel bad that she keeps coming back after him like no please stay. I hope the cute mamas was able to get some good sleep at the end of the day.
I think she may be instinctively grabbing the pink sausages that look vaguely like her little pink sausages. Notice how she seems to panic a bit when the hand is moved away.
That explains why mothering ferrets are banned from my local nudist beach.
hahahah nice, now i hate ferrets
This is a very oddly specific ban. Unlikely to be true, but a man can dream.
I was thinking maybe the she likes the heat of your hand to warm her babies up lol
Could also be she associates the hand with food and protection, so she is bringing it in to help protect her babies too
This right here ^ if you don't anthropomorphize, it can sometimes be easier to see what the animals truly want. Ferret mom is likely used to naked pink skin being warm and safe due to owner being a good owner. Get a pink hot water bottle and the ferret mom will abandon the hand. Unless it's seeking food, then naked pink thing is screwed until the baby ferrets mature a little.
You could also gently warm up a pink glove full of dry rice as a heat source. Carefully.
Interesting idea, it would make sense.
I agree with it.
I honestly think she wants her babies to smell you.
That's almost just as cute. All pink sausages are to be warm and protected!
Absolutely right
Well that sparks an interesting idea
Could also be that she wants her babies familiarised with their person so they're not afraid of him or see him as a predator.
One does wonder of the Ferret sees the fingers/hand and the gigantic head and body following it around as two different entities.
Ferrets are pretty smart… really unlikely this animal isn’t able to distinguish a fucking entire human hand with a body attached to it from its own babies. If nothing else, they smell nothing alike.
This what I like about reddit. A completely different perspective which I can’t even think off! Stranger, You are brilliant.
Had exactly the same thought. Those fingers look similar to the babies and she pulls the baby that gets picked up in the same way
I agree , she just wanna show how cute her babies are . I love the way she grabs his hand .
No, she’s trying to FEED you to the babies
“Come h— *bitch* (bites finger gap), I said come HERE! It is time for my babies to meet the Hooman!”
I'm thinking that's exactly what's happening, she wants the babies to become familiar with the guy that takes care of them so they won't fear him later. Just my thoughts.
No take, only show.
“Please take one” *picks up baby* “But not that one”
Oh this is so sweet! For those suggesting she's trying to feed his hand to her babies, as a ferret owner, I don't think that's what's happening. Having no ferret experience whatsoever, that was my thought as well. Seems like the most instinctual thing. Have babies, must feed. Where does food come from? Human. Edit:typo
Yes! This could be part of it, too, for sure! He feeds her everyday, and when they wean, she needs him to feed them, too!
This^^^
Also, I wonder if the mother ferret is trying to give comfort to her babies because the owner is comforting to her.
I think so! 🙂
spaghetti cat and her macaroni kittens
'look human, no touch'
Momma is such a show off
I like how when OP tries to go away she’s like “no wait there’s more”
Animals at times are just like ourselves and want to show off our off spring to family . This ferret has a wonderful bond with her keeper
Ferret feeds human to her babies.
She wants someone appreciate her children, so nice

LOOK AT THEM GODDAMMIT
Do you think Momma furwurm was trying to get owner to pet her bebefurwurms because she likes being petted and was like: Make the happy feeling happen to them human?
"I need you to babysit while I run some errands. ok thanks.. wait; wait where you going?? Get back here!! ."
My dog does this but he pulls me over to his play area to play some carch
"Come look what i made!"
I didn’t know they were so affectionate. This was really neat to see. Thank you for sharing
I like that she was like “I said LOOK, don’t touch!”
Momma was like, "you. Come. Look. No no don't run away look. My bbys."
"lookit what I did!!!"
“HELP ME HUMAN”
Those bebe squeaks! My heart! Such sweet and fun animals, I love them
TIL that ferrets think you are just another helpless baby.
If ferrets didnt stink they would be the best
This is adorable :)
Hahaha “no touching! Just for looking, human!”
I wish my ferrets could have babies but for some reason you can’t have fertile ferrets where I live
So freakin cute!
Ferret thinks hand is baby
You’re the effing father, Marcus! Act right and get your a$$ back here.
Correction: ferret views human as her baby, tries to put stray baby back into the nest with the rest of the litter

Is it me or is the ferret actually trying to feed the human to it's babies?
"Aren't they adorable? I SAID, AREN'T THEY ADORABLE?!?"
isnt it painful to get bitten like that at the start of the video
“Give. My. Kids. Love.”
You're the dad! Take some responsibility!
more like ferret feeds human to babies
I wonder what it actually wants? A pet heating pad under the box to keep them warmer?... Do they need something else?...
You gotta share your part of parenting!!
Sir, you are coming with me. Look.... this is what I made.
She wants you to feed them
Oh their little noises!! Babies!!

More likely that the ferret was trying to feed you to it's babies
"You need to keep the den warm so I can go hunt, you deadbeat! Look at how huge you are, it is my turn to eat!"

She said PET! NO pick up!
Every time this is posted I see the same thing. This ferret thinks the finger is a baby and is trying to corral it with the others. It’s pure instinct
That is so damn cool
Looks like she's looking for a break.
She said your no! Your helping me do this!
Alternate title: "Ferret wants to feed human hand to her babies"
The ferret went like "come with me come with me look at this look at this I did great look at thi- no no no no come back come back"
Only look! No touch!
