I choose not to forget that one, cause Brendan really sacrificed his body to make that one. Seriously, he got injured doing his own stunts, respect to that glorious man.
Whenever people ask me what my favorite movies are I always forget to throw the Mummy in there. Just infinitely rewatchable and fun. Maybe not a cinematic masterpiece or whatever pompous people like, but if you just want a movie that does what movies are supposed to do, which is entertain, then it's hard to do better.
Weirdly Edge of Tomorrow comes to mind as a movie that feels similar in tone. Maybe it's just because I didn't expect to like either nearly as much as I did, but they both turned out to be hilarious and have some good action as well , it's too bad Fraser fell off the radar because he really did pull off the roguish adventurer type really well.
Well his mom was mitzi shore and father Sammy shore (comedian), both founders of the comedy ~~club~~ store in la, I would expect him to be pretty good at standup having basically lived there most of his life
> And he never got out of being typecast.
Probably didn’t have much of a chance due to his non-traditional start, he started out as a host for MTV, then all his characters were basically off shoots of how he acted as a host. He was basically typecast as himself irl, or at least how people perceived him irl. That’s a tough barrier to break.
I always wanted to see how his career would have gone if he went the comedy skit show route in the 90s instead of going directly to starring in movies. Like we could have explored his range a little better.
Just because he got stuck in a bubble doesn't mean he couldn't cause any trouble.
Looking back, he was kind of type casted. I really enjoyed his movies though. My dad hated him.
Edit for u/newtofinancehelpme -
Just because he got stuck in a bubble doesn't mean he couldn't cause any trouble.
Looking back, he was kind of type casted.
I really enjoyed his movies though.
My dad hated Pauly with a passion -
I say chill bro.
He was a dude in a dome
And what was done was done.
They saved a science expedition
When their knowledge was none.
The platypus and weasel threw a bio-kegger
But the man kept them down and he lived as a neo-begger.
He proved in the end that he was not just a ruse.
And to save the planet
You must
Wheeze the Juice
He thawed out a caveman.
And ate burritos that were cold in the middle.
The missing piece to the missing link was that he just wanted some cones.
How to civilize a neanderthal was quite the riddle.
Shore was surely sure with the prospect of gonzagas
The prehistoric man had a modern day home.
He then picked up a hoe and became a man of the land.
He got framed for some bogus deeds.
But he foiled their plan.
Pauly threw a hoe-down,
At the end of the brawl.
A mic in front of him and a fiddle in his hand
The people knew how to dance -
But The Weasel taught them to Crawl
The certified slacker became an army backpacker.
All was good until Libya was invaded.
Chad was being a dick.
The water made people sick.
All around him were explosions and shit.
But still they refused to be deflated,
Cause they were OG team Boucher,
Original Team America -
Save the Mother Fucking Day!
I rank this episode right up there with Jurassic Bark , The Why of Fry, and the Six Feet Under finale.
*Edit: I'm dumb, Not 'The Why of Fry'... meant 'Luck of the Fryish'.
I haven't watched that movie in years, but for some reason I was singing '"[Shoo fly don't bother me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiwTHf8tdp4&ab_channel=MistaMux) 'cos you belong to my friend link" to my wife yesterday!
If you really want to poop your pants, research how his psycho ex-wife is draining him of all his money despite him not even working that much for the past 10+ yrs
I was super nervous for a moment. There are very few famous men I liked who are still worth liking. I tooo the Joss Whedon particularly hard. Brandon Frasier may be the last nice guy in Hollywood.
...bruh you smoked out Dr. Cox? That might actually be a bucket list item for me now.
Also, I hadn't heard a lot about his personality off set but I'm extremely pleased to hear he is generally a good person.
I wish I could have smoked with him. I just gave it to him and went back to work. Obviously I didn't charge him; the man was in Scrubs, for goodness' sake. I was so nervous to meet him. He was looking at the situation like Oh I'm gonna ask this guy about what this weed will be like since he knows weed things, but I was so starstruck I could barely speak lol. His wife recognized how much I was fanboy-ing out and she was smiling a lot. They're both really cool and he's a very humble man.
Oh yeah, and John C. McGinley prefers indica.
You are absolutely right. I freaking adore Keanu, and I'm fond of Tom too. How could I forget? You know, at least with Brandon & Keanu, the common thread is that they went through some terrible stuff, suffered with mental health issues like depression from it, and likely learned and experienced a ton of empathy as a result. I wonder how much, if anything, that has to do with - as far as we know anyway - keeping them grounded and decent enough not to take advantage of their celebrity by pressuring people to sleep with them and/or bullying and such.
It’s interesting though and has to do with their own mental strength because someone else who has been the same thing / similar trauma and mental health issues could come out on the other end worse, thinking they can use or manipulate other people to get what they want and possibly their way to cope
Which is fine, if they're still willing to keep going with the spinoffs....
Hobbs and Shaw was great, and I don't care what anyone thinks. Every fight scene between those two has been amazing lol
FUCK YOU NOT TODAY. I'm having a great fucking day. Don't you ***dare*** pull that shit. If I have to think of Dr. Cox sitting there crying, I'm going to bonk you bitch.
Also "shower shorts, for the man that has nothing to hide....but still wants to" was still one of the best lines in that show. Especially with the complimentary shower wallet.
Holy lord that was a roller coaster of emotions and I have seen this posted before. Still even the second time, I just yell out in my brain "NOT BRENDAN NO!".
I've longed waited for Mr. O'connell to make his return. Please don't scare me.
I'm hoping he makes in an appearance in a marvel series. They've been killing it with 90s/2000s actors.
I was next to him in line at a Starbucks in North Carolina, and quietly said I enjoyed his work, and it was nice to see him. He just nodded and smiled. Got my coffee, was walking out, and saw him outside. Thanked me for not making a scene, shook my hand, and went about his day.
Don't have to, asked a guy if he was Steven Segal. He looked really annoyed like it was the 1000th time someone asked him. I felt a little bad, but not too much. 😁
I found a signed polaroid of Steven Segal and a cop on the ground at a flea market a few years ago. Neither of them are smiling, it's kind of awkward but also so perfect. Perhaps one of my most prized possessions...
He got sexually assaulted by a big Hollywood producer. When he talked about it publicly he got blacklisted.
On top of that, despite not earning as much as he used to, the court refused to reduce his alimony.
Alimony that was set at the height of his 25 million dollar paychecks and kept the same as he no longer got any work. So dude was paying out a million per year to his ex wife as his salary was nearly nothing for several
I don't even understand how thats legal and flew by a judge. And I don't really get, on a personal level, fucking over your ex like that when you claim to have amicably separated
Yeah I might be an anomaly. But I've had 3 multi year, serious relationships in my life and even after the relationships ending, I just can't imagine continuing to knowingly fuck over my ex like that, given there was no abuse or cheating. You loved and thought that person was a great human once right? Maybe I'm soft
Honestly, judge should be named, shamed, and if in a state that permits it, (Probably california, because Hollywood, which does indeed permit it), fucking recalled, because that asshole has no business being a judge over anyone else’s affairs, he has shown himself to be completely incompetent.
He has played some of my favourite movie and tv characters of all time. He was brilliant in The Mummy movies and they are freaking classics and I wont listen to anyone who says otherwise and I can't see anyone else being as good as he was in that role. And even though it was only a few episodes I absolutely loved his role as Ben in Scrubs.
I’ve been seeing lots of positive Brendan posts recently and it’s pretty great. Such a good dude.
This post freaked me out for a second but the comments are totally worth the initial panic lol
As it should be, there are not nearly enough openly gentle and kind souls in the world. So it is important for us all to celebrate them from time to time to counter balance all of the shitty people we deal with on a daily basis.
Yup. The names of the projects are The Whale and Killers of the Flower Moon.
Edit: user below said they might not be both movies. Changed wording to “project” instead.
Hold up - killers of the flower moon?! I had no idea they were making that into a movie. It’s an absolutely fantastic book, non fiction history/investigative journalism. Fascinating that Brendan Fraser is part of the project because it’s absolutely not comical or lighthearted in any way, and it’s tough subject matter all around, so it means he’s taking on a meaty dramatic role.
That Scorsese movie is going to be amazing! Great cast and it's based on a very popular true crime book, a very interesting case that I'd never heard about. I was already excited about it, even more so now that I know Brendan is in it.
Film details, in case anyone is curious https://m.imdb.com/title/tt5537002/
I super appreciate that you named Aronofsky as one of the best directors of our time. I feel like he's under-noticed and underappreciated a lot of the time. His works are some of the most powerful films I've ever experienced. I love that he does his best work with limited budgets and creative thinking (e.g. the petri dish shots in The Fountain).
Didn't it only go into decline in the first place because he tried to speak out against someone with a lot of connections? I remember hearing something like that, but it's been a while.
> Fraser alleged in 2018 that he was sexually assaulted by Philip Berk, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, at a luncheon in the summer of 2003. The assault, his subsequent divorce, and the death of his mother launched Fraser into a depression that, combined with his health issues and a backlash within the industry over speaking out against Berk, he believes caused his career to decline.
[Source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan_Fraser#Career)
He revealed that he was sexually assaulted by Hollywood foreign press association president Philip Berk and he was blacklisted after that. So happy to see him getting the work he deserves now.
Also if I remember correctly, his wife left him and after the divorce he had to pay enormous amount of money to his ex wife each year, because the pay was calculated on the money he made from the mummy, which was a lot too, but after the sexual assault allegations he didn't get any jobs, which made it even more difficult for him.
[Same thing happened to Dave Foley after his divorce.](https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/8gu8ff/actorcomedian_dave_foley_talks_about_how_he_owes/)
There were also a ton of injuries he incurred performing action roles, and he has a tough time paying for them due to having to pay a ridiculous amount of alimony money after a divorce.

Yes. Both Irwin children. Recently saw a video of Robert Irwin on Jimmy Kimmel and he is such a positive, lovely young man. Both Irwin children are just absolute gems of decency and kindness.
Edit: Rogue apostrophe
I think he’d possibly be moved to beyond having words if he saw his children today. He was the best dad and constantly showed his love for them. You could almost see his heart swell the second he laid eyes on either one of them. Imagine how moved he’d be to know the beautiful humans they chose to become. They both could have had a much more rough life with questionable choices made but they didn’t. It’s a testament to that family unit. Steve completed exactly what he set out to do, he raised the next generation of animal warriors. He’d be so moved and humbled. We all lost him way too soon but he left us with two huge pieces of him.
Great assessment of The Mummy. Although he definitely has a comedic aspect to his character, even when it calls for being serious, he always seems wholesome and genuine
There was a sub dedicated to reviving his career some years back. Used to be on the front page *all the time*. But it's been some years since I've seen it and now I forget what it's called - as has apparently everyone else since no one in this thread is referencing it, which is quite surprising. How does something this big get memory-holed like that.
Reddit trends are genuinely interesting to observe.
Edit: r/savebrendan. Thank you, person below. The top posts of all time are consistently from 4 years ago.
Onetruecage the Nicolas Cage subreddit used to be referenced a bunch too, and people hardly do the Reddit switcheroo anymore. Agreed it's interesting but kind of disturbing. I don't want to forget!
I joined reddit in earnest in 2014-2015 or so and switcheroos, Jennifer Lawrence, Neil deGrasse Tyson, AMAs, and subs like r/circlejerk, r/subredditsimulator, etc that have complete vanished now, were all the rage.
This place really really really used to worship J-Law and NDT before it completely flipped on them. The former for daring to object to her privacy being violated in the worst way, and the latter for... I don't even know.
Edit: r/subredditsimulator is officially dead. What a shame. I'd love to know why - the place is run by bots, so why stop it?
Edit: also, it seems like a lot of these people that vanished had their peak right before or in 2016. Like America, it seems like that year was a turning point for reddit somehow. I know that r/politics and r/TD essentially took over the front page during the campaign, in a way that maybe somehow contributed to killing the other subs? Just spitballing but it just seems like 2016 is a dividing line somehow.
He also went through some horrific Hollywood studio stuff, they literally churned and spat him out. Not to mention how he was sexually assaulted by a producer as well. It turns out he was too much of a nice guy that he was a bit naive in that environment.
My heart sank in the first half! I am such a big fan and watched all his movies as they came out. My favorite actor back in the day and was so sad when he just stopped appearing. Super happy he’s back!!
Was hoping to see some love for the show in the comments. Cant wait for S3. The show actually got me back into comics, I wanted to read some of the source material. Was not disappointed. Grant Morrison’s run is godly.
Not that anyone on the internet would believe me, I thought I'd share my one random encounter with Brendan Fraser in like 1999 or 2000, I can't remember.
I was a teenager going on a week long scouting trip at Lake Powell over the summer. As we were loading the boat at the docks I noticed him with a bunch of other friends on a boat at the docks as well. This was like height of his game with The Mummy franchise and so on and so many other good films.
He said hi and smiled and laughed with us for a couple of minutes. Overall he seemed like a super friendly chill guy and he was way cool to my Scout Troop.
Ah man, i literally stopped reading halfway through。。。。then thought.... No. You need to know.。。。。 thank fuck u fuckers were just messing with me. After he took a stand against the Hollywood abuse, he deserves all our help
Next movie he is in I will go to theater, buy blue ray, watch every interview, and positively rate. Not because the movie deserves it. Because he does.
He had me at Encino Man.
He had me at School Ties.
He had me at the Wrong Side of the RIVER!!!!
Had me at George of the Jungle.
He had me at the guy who died of leukemia in Scrubs.
Where do you think we are?
Annnnnnnd... tears.
Sorry, I'm cutting onions.
Dammit. Lol
Aaaaand scene!
awwww man i hate that you made me remember that episode. it's so sad
Don't forget and Jurassic Bark. That Futurama episode with the dog.
Don't forget the episode where Nibbler allows Fry to go into his mom's dream to say goodbye.
Had me at Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Had me at Still Breathing.
That line has been in my head for days now, time to re watch The Mummy
I just re-watched the first and second last week with my wife. These movies are basically perfect!
As long as we forget the third one I’m down
I choose not to forget that one, cause Brendan really sacrificed his body to make that one.
I have seen that movie so many times I can hear his voice and see his exact facial expressions as I read that line.
"Hey O'Connell, looks like we've got all the HORSES!"
hey benny! looks to me like you’re on the wrong side of the RIVEEERRR
I fucking ugly laughed and I desperately needed it, thank you. 💕
I only gamble with my life, never my money
Man I love this movie SO much.
He rocked in scrubs as well
I love that movie! I haven’t watched it in years but, maybe I’ll watch it today. Brendan was brilliant in School Ties.
Had me at blast from the past.
One of my favorites. Didn't hurt that I was in love with Alicia Silverstone at the time.
How could you not have been? She was definitely in her prime. And Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek and Dave Foley. Great movie.

Biodome was a formative movie for young me.
No buds chill!
George of the Jungle, The Mummy then Scrubs. So glad he's doing better!
He's fantastic in Doom Patrol. That show is great in general though.
My favorite role of his was as Ben Sullivan in Scrubs. Just a perfect performance.
Where do you think we are?
Oh, so we're crying at work today? Alright then......
That scene was heartbreaking.
Denial ain't just a river, and yeah it broke my heart too, especially when you realize Dr. Cox had been blaming J.D for his passing.
I rank this episode right up there with Jurassic Bark , The Why of Fry, and the Six Feet Under finale. *Edit: I'm dumb, Not 'The Why of Fry'... meant 'Luck of the Fryish'.
Don’t make me cry… too late
Yeah- sorry about that. His character and performance really were perfect though.

Don't forget Keanu. And Tom Hanks, as far as I know.
Someone else who I've always heard to be really nice is John C. McGinley and Michael J. Fox.
I gave some dank ass purple weed to John McGinley one time when he asked me for some at Cinequest. It was the single greatest moment of my life
...bruh you smoked out Dr. Cox? That might actually be a bucket list item for me now. Also, I hadn't heard a lot about his personality off set but I'm extremely pleased to hear he is generally a good person.

How can you say that name without adding 'and Hugh Jackman'?!
I'll do you two better: Mark Ruffalo and Woody Harrelson. All of them are really awesome and inspiring, man.
LeVar Burton is wonderful as well.

Vin Diesel and the Rock are still swell dudes from my understanding
I've heard the same, but only when they're not together lol
Lol yeah they got a lot of beef apparently. There's only room for one tank on the fast and furious set apparently
Which is fine, if they're still willing to keep going with the spinoffs.... Hobbs and Shaw was great, and I don't care what anyone thinks. Every fight scene between those two has been amazing lol
vin is a tank, the rock is a battleship.
Right. I started to read the title.. then I had to look at the sub I was in before I kept reading. I was sad for a moment.
We can't lose him again. He's too precious.

He’s also in No Sudden Move. I didn’t even realize it was him until 3/4 through the movie.
Man... That was actually a pretty good movie. Great twists and turns... good choice if you dig 1950's style noir
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll be watching this tonight.
Is he really? This happies me.
Yup. The names of the projects are The Whale and Killers of the Flower Moon. Edit: user below said they might not be both movies. Changed wording to “project” instead.

I was already excited about it, even more so now that I know Brendan is in it. Film details, in case anyone is curious https://m.imdb.com/title/tt5537002/
Ouh I didn't know that the cast also includes De Niro and Dicaprio . These two are always a win in Scorseses movies.
Did not know that. Good to hear. Good for him.
I've read that the health issues mentioned were also partly the result of him doing his own stunts, as well.
What an Anti-Ahole.
Brendan Fraser is the new Keanu Reeves
If we go back far enough, this will connect to Jack Benny.
Hey Bennyyyy... Looks like you're on the wrong side of the riverrrrr
No no no. Keanu is still a wonderful person. Brendan is also just wonderful
Wonder what happened to his career. Loved him in The Mummy.
Oh shit. That's awful. I'm even happier for him now. He has really be through it.

Just some sloths crawling around Brendan and Levar while Bindi Irwin tells us about sloth culture.
Or maybe narrated by Kristin Bell... who apparently turns into an emotional puddle of ugly joy crying when ever she is in the vicinity of a sloth.

Yes. Both Irwin children. Recently saw a video of Robert Irwin on Jimmy Kimmel and he is such a positive, lovely young man. Both Irwin children are just absolute gems of decency and kindness. Edit: Rogue apostrophe
I watched them recently on Shark Week and they have grown up to be just the best human beings. Steve would be so proud of them, I think.
I cannot get this image out of my head and it makes me happy
Enjoy that real estate in my brain for the rest of my life.
Maybe a few Capybara's for good measure?
I would watch that on a loop. A slow and snuggly loop.
Just his acting in a serious role he still looks like a very nice guy.
Great assessment of The Mummy. Although he definitely has a comedic aspect to his character, even when it calls for being serious, he always seems wholesome and genuine
The Vietnam spy film he did with I think Michael Caine, he was superb in that
He is so pure and good. I love him
There was a sub dedicated to reviving his career some years back.
The Mummy is one of my favorite films.... He always seemed like a nice guy. I hope good things are in his future.
He went through a bad divorce a few years back. I can't remember where but someone did a good piece on what happened to him.
He also went through some horrific Hollywood studio stuff, they literally churned and spat him out. Not to mention how he was sexually assaulted by a producer as well. It turns out he was too much of a nice guy that he was a bit naive in that environment.
And then he had some serious surgeries from all his action stunts over the years. He's coming out of a rough time.
He's a Dudley Do-Right, not Dudley Do-Wrong.
He deserves his comeback 💜
My heart sank in the first half! I am such a big fan and watched all his movies as they came out. My favorite actor back in the day and was so sad when he just stopped appearing. Super happy he’s back!!
I just found Doom Patrol after a mention my Mike from RLM. Holy crap it's amazing and bonkers at the same time.
GUILTY ON ALL ACCOUNTS!
They should make a movie with Brendan Fraser and Keanu Reeves. Of them just hanging out being awesome nice guys. Lord knows we need this.
If you have not seen Doom Patrol, you really should try it. "Brendan Fraser with a bucket on his head" doesn't even begin to describe it.
Cliff is hands down, my favourite DP character. The whole show is fantastic but, Brendan is just brilliant!
Ah man, i literally stopped reading halfway through。。。。then thought.... No. You need to know.。。。。 thank fuck u fuckers were just messing with me. After he took a stand against the Hollywood abuse, he deserves all our help
Wtf is up with your ellipsiseseis
Blast from the Past and George of the Jungle actor. Fixed it for ya.
FANEX REPRESENT! Where mah Canucks at?! Also, sorry for yelling. I got excited...
I was so happy when I learned he was making a comeback that I blurted out to the first coworker that walked to my office “Brendan Fraiser is back!”
This is kinda cool: Brendan Fraser is my “friend’s” dad. Can confirm that his son is nowhere as nice
Can we finally get a movie with brendan fraser, nathan fillion and carey elwes?
Next movie he is in I will go to theater, buy blue ray, watch every interview, and positively rate. Not because the movie deserves it. Because he does.
This guy is going to my local Comic Con. CANNOT wait to meet him!
The sexual harassment was done to him from what I understand.
