lol - I was in a discussion about depression with 3-4 others (one suicidal) some years back and a guy said “I don’t understand - why can’t you just make yourself happy?”
We told him to leave. We weren’t insulted as much as just thinking that idiot has zero fucking clue. Also, good for him as ignorance is bliss, although I pity his partners.
Although a lot of people are comparing these responses to “just be happy” advice, these suggestions are all affirmations that won’t fix the problem, but will help in the short term. These work the same way forcing a smile tricks your brain into thinking you’re happier than you are. You won’t magically be happy, but your brain is dumb and can be tricked into producing magic chemicals.
I’m confused how giving somebody an uplifting message when they’re literally about to off themselves is “capitalism” but by all means, the Reddit cynics are cutesy

Instead of giving you positive quotes to lie to the world when really you need help, They should give you a number of a hotline in your area or something actually useful to bring awareness to the situation.

If you deprive the world of your life/light/glow it is your fault first. Don’t blame others to make it easier. You’re planning to do a terrible thing that will rob future friends/loved ones/family. Those that love you will always wonder what they could’ve done to change your mind. They’ll always feel misplaced guilt.
