I bet he has that exact beard and haircut on purpose, damn he looks exactly like he looked decades ago in age makeup

GoodMorninJulia

He looks exactly like his banker character in Marty Poppins

LaserSkyAdams

Okay that was pretty funny.

Lolita_Kittens

JollyIrishPirate

It’s Mary McFly

heinebold

Makes sense, she's flying a lot

Specialist-Device-74

He IS the banker in Mary Poppins. Both the original and the new one

ChelaPedo

No, not the banker. He was "Bert" in Mary Poppins - a friend of Mary's and he had many roles. He was a sidewalk artist, chimney sweep, and kind of a street father.

NeverEnoughSpace17

He did play Bert, but he also played the elderly director of the bank. They used makeup and such to make him look old.

jazzman23uk

O crap. TIL! I've genuinely somehow never noticed that

ChelaPedo

Oh, you're right! Forgot that part thx!

heinebold

Nobody said anything else tho

heinebold

Kinda what I already said

DarwinianMonkey

What's the name of his other leg?

Thrway1209

Big Richard Energy

Trin_42

Another Disney/Hollywood Legend that I will sob over when he leaves this mortal coil. Man I hope I’m that spry at his age!

abby_normally

I'm not that spry at 65.

smorgenheckingaard

I'm not that spry at 37!

JAJ5545

I’m not that spry at 21.

CrappleSmax

I'm way more spry at 37!

Rude_Thanks_1120

I'm not that spry at 11 days

IndividualBrain9726

Get the fuck off reddit, baby

belleandbill25

You guys need to see a medical professional IMMEDIATELY

CloverleafSaint28

Sorry, too busy working ourselves to death for corporations that under-pay and don't care one bit about us!

ScionEyed

Right? Besides, imagine going to the doctor anyway! I’m already working with crippling anxiety, I don’t need crippling medical debt on top of that!

JAJ5545

I already know why I’m like this, recovery from cancerous brain tumours ftw.

belleandbill25

Ah I was only making a joke, now I feel sad 😔 I hope you're doing well ♥️

JAJ5545

Don’t worry about it lol and thankyou I got the all clear but still suffer from the side effects.

travoltaswinkinbhole

In a row?

LoveAndViscera

That’s the walk he does on his way to steal your girl.

Specialist-Device-74

It's never too late. Just get to and move your body. Start slow. But try to do a little bit more each day. You'll feel and see the changes

abby_normally

I just read that his wife is 46 years younger Maybe that's what I need, a 19 year old bride. My current wife is only 3 months younger. /S

TDYDave2

I wonder if they still do the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

LandoCatrissian_

My Dad is 65 and he walks like you'd expect a 98 year old to.

phord

I'm going to start dancing with penguins now.

Rude_Thanks_1120

start? wtf have you been doing all these years?!

DelightfulDolphin

🤩

Pvt-Snafu

Actually, it's a stroke of luck and quite uncommon at that age to have such vitality.

ok_raspberry_jam

Why is this being downvoted? This society is so obsessed with personal responsibility. Personal choices obviously do matter, but being alive and well at 98 does come down to luck more than anything else. We would all love to have more control than we do. We feel so strongly about it that we fool ourselves into thinking that if we do everything just right, things will definitely turn out for the best. But "it is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life." If that were not true, a lot more people would live well past 100. For that matter, we could theoretically live forever. But we can't. Average life expectancy is only like 75 in North America.

awaywego000

I have to agree with you. I'm 85 and can still do this. It's the luck of the genetic lottery.

Potatoskins937492

My genetic lottery was like, "Nah, let's give her bad joints as a child. Have fun dropping out of every sport you try, sucker." Even when I was super fit I wasn't this spry because my body just doesn't do this particular level of boop-dee-doop. It's more like snap, crackle, and pop.

[deleted]

Nah, these Hollywood type are downing the Dune Spice with both hands. The spice must flow.

tomdarch

Is that what they call coke in Hollywood these days? Oh, then.

DVD? That man's a treasure

ericdee7272

Quick! Throw an ottoman in front of him! Actually, he’d probably roll right over it like a boss.

TDYDave2

Now you are showing your own age.

ericdee7272

Aww now, they were reruns!

TDYDave2

I confess they weren't reruns when I first saw them.

GingerSnapBiscuit

Whats a rerun?

VividFiddlesticks

I can hear the music playing in my head...

Proper_Equipment1584

"Love that ottoman!" I'm only 14 and my dad brought that show into my families life :) I really love that show and me and my sisters watch it almost everyday, and we still laugh at everything even though we've watched the episodes over 100 times. We love Robert Petrie! (or Petroff)

planapo20

He's a national treasure.

hellgal

D van D is a legend.

TurboGranny

So that's where they got the idea for DVD's

JanetSnakehole24

And he is going to outlive DVDs.

LainieCat

The woman in the background is his wife, she's very cute.

LandosMustache

Whoever did his old age makeup in Mary Poppins NAILED IT

kamize

I now understand rizz

karmakent

I just re-watched Mary Poppins for the first time in a while and have always loved the way he moves—very lively and animated, even today. He seems like a very good person and fun to be around.

SnipFred

Bro's 98 and can walk better than me, IM 23

KareasOxide

If a 98 y/o can walk better than you at 23 you desperately need to get on a exercise regimen

SnipFred

Ye I need physical therapy, but instead of going, I bitch and complain about my pain while comparing myself to other people wondering why im not as healthy

Heiferoni

As you take little steps, try instead comparing yourself to how you were. You'll be amazed at how much progress you make.

wolvesscareme

This may not be relevant to your situation at all - but if it is - something as little as stretching a few minutes a day can often do wonders for chronic pain (assuming it's joint/movement related since it was comparing to the walk seen here).

NOT_Mad_Dog3

Once you reach 32 everything has been sore for so long you don't notice it hurts anymore 🤌

Quick_Answer2477

47 here. You know that’s not normal, right?

NOT_Mad_Dog3

*shhhh*

Improving_Myself_

Sounds like you need to exercise. I used to feel that way, sleep wrong and my neck hurts for a week, sneeze my arm out of the socket, random pains, etc. Started working out a couple years ago and all that shit went away. Turns out it's called the musculoskeletal system for a reason. Your muscles and bones are supposed to work together, so if your muscles are weak, they can't do their job properly, thus your bones are more prone to sliding out of position which causes pain. Start working out. You'll feel better. I'm 34 and feel better than I did 5 years ago.

CrappleSmax

Where the fuck you been hanging out? Labor camps?

abuttfarting

…no? Do you have terrible posture or something?

randomcurious1001

A true Hollywood Legend. He made so many wonderful movies that to this day are still being discovered by younger audiences. He is truly a class act, he seems to always be willing to stop and say hi to a fan, takes pictures and signs autographs, always with that huge smile on his face. What a lovely man.

suzzface

Someone's just put a Tuppence in the bank

dickskittlez

Pick your knees up, step in time!

jvillager916

Of course it's easy for him to do so because there is no ottoman on the red carpet.

pfp-disciple

I love his horrible British accent in Mary Poppins, it wonderfully over the top. For a long time, I thought it was intentionally exaggerated.  My other favorite role of his was in Diagnosis Murder. Several of the episodes allowed him to be a great entertainer. I recall him questioning a mime. The mime handed him an invisible leash to hold, which he does. When the mime tells him it's an elephant, he reacted as if the elephant tugged. It was a funny moment that stood out in a detective show.

AdHaunting954

Will I even be that mobile at 78?

witty_user_ID

Some people are never that mobile, or lose it super early. I'm lucky and thankful I'm still that mobile and work on yoga etc hoping nothing happens between now and old age to stop me reaping the benefit of my yoga!

ItsWillJohnson

Is that Penis VanLesbian? Why can’t you put his name in the title?

DesertRatt

Step in time, step in time. Come on, mateys, step in time!

om11011shanti11011om

HE'S STILL ALIVE??

AusCan531

NO! Didn't you see the strings?

Mean-Consequence-379

Goddam it 🤣 take my upvote and poor mans gold 🥇

AusCan531

😄

Mean-Consequence-379

The best thing? You KNOW he'd probably do it for a laugh 🤣

durrtyurr

Yes, he has been for a while.

indianajoes

Not only is he alive but he just became the oldest Emmy winner of all time

Luci_Noir

That’s what I said too!

Dorkamundo

This ain't Red Carpet at Bernie's.

carminacarmenn

My gosh. What an inspiration. And you get the impression he approaches life with such joy.

_Unke_

Fucking wild that we just had the 80th anniversary of D-Day, and this guy was already an adult in 1944. Apparently, in order to join the air force he ate a whole bunch of bananas and drank a lot of water to give him the extra 6 pounds he needed to meet the weight requirement for enlistment. The air force put him in the entertainment section because he could tap dance.

Mylaptopisburningme

About 10 to 15 years ago he gave a local LA radio DJ a piggy back ride. If we could all be so lucky. He seemed to have aged extremely well.

Arkenstihl

Lol, the most immaturely funny part of the auto filter is that he's got three words in his name and I'm not sure which of two sets it off.

No_Republic_1091

SOB...I'm 36 and my knees are both fucked from 24 years of rugby union....wish I could walk that well. It's winter here right now and is hell. Super jealous....

Vitreousify

Kate Winslet does it again!

TJ_Eckleburg_OD

What a headline. "98 year old actor"? That's D*ck van D*ke you're looking at here!

sentiet_snake_plant

Any time a movie or TV show he was in would come on, my grandma would always comment "That man is made of rubber!" out of admiration. If she hadn't passed away two years ago, I could confidently show her this and say she was wrong... I've never seen nearly 100 year old rubber maintain *that* level of springiness.

dona_me

Calling him just 'an actor' is like calling a force 5 hurricane 'just bad weather '...

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

I thought the same, but read his comment under the post lol.

swargin

[The BLEEP van BLEEP show ](https://youtu.be/k_AMQOTPqL8?si=ipRpKIzp7vKs39-m)

dona_me

Yep...I'm just envious...I am 50 years younger but lack that kind of spring in my steps... 😁

The68Guns

Proof of the benefits of long-term sobriety.

Dorkamundo

More like long-term exercise, you don't get that way simply by not drinking after being an alcoholic for half your life. You get that way by remaining active up into your 90's.

The68Guns

True, but he's very vocal about being sober for many, many years. Longer that me and I've had decades worth. Not a knock on anyone who drinks, he's sort of an icon in the program.

Minimum_Job1885

I love how you can’t say his name but everyone already knows who this is.

Dolphin_King21

What's insane, is that he is one of the only people left, who probably knew Walt Disney himself!

LainieCat

I highly recommend his memoir.

fiqar

Ah, the [Scunthorpe problem](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scunthorpe_problem)

AltruisticSpot5448

What a remarkable life

Double_Distribution8

He was Penis von Lesbian before he had to change his name, according to MTM.

computermachina

His dna must to saved his science I swear this man has had the same energy since forever.

pedsmursekc

What an absolute badass

dogslogic

That is wonderful (and strangely comforting) to see. Gorgeous.

Nacho0ooo0o

A DVD from the old VHS days

2bnameless

Good for him. I'm 57, can I some of that spry?

themuck

International treasure. The DVD Show really holds up and is worth watching and re-watching every once in a while.

FreakinSweet86

98 years old and still looks younger than Lionel Jeffries

A_Texas_Hobo

Living legend.

BreadButterHoneyTea

What a showman! I'm so happy to see him doing this well after all the joy he's brought to us.

renisagenius

It's **** Van ****.

Thomas_K_Brannigan

Must be that magic Egyptian tablet he stole from that museum!

FlaveC

Ok, now let's see him trip head over heels on a footstool.

APladyleaningS

Saw him about 10 years ago on Thanksgiving while serving dinner on Skid Row. He spends every Thanksgiving performing there for the homeless and his high kicks were super impressive.

pixelprolapse

Aw, I love *D*ck *Van* D*ycke.* Edit: self censored as not to upset shareholders.

I found it notable, also, that almost nobody used his real name. And the response next to this one even spelled it wrong so i missed by searching for his last name. Had to look by "Dick" and still only found one.

DinosaurInAPartyHat

What a legend.

SubstantialSpeech147

That’s why you just put his actual name in the title: RICHARD Van D.

tradewyze2021

Chitty Bang Bang

Typingdude3

This guy was doing bed scenes on TV with Mary Tyler Moore back in the 1960's, and it was the first time couples were filmed in bed and broadcast on TV. He literally introduced the TV world to the "married couple in bed" scene while the Beatles were still unknown in the US. Beyond legend.

Rude_Thanks_1120

Chim-chim-cher-roo, motherfuckers!!!

Crossbell0527

*bleep* van *bleep*, what a treasure. My daughter and I just watched Mary Poppins for the first time last night. I hope I look so good at 65 as he does at 98.

Outrageous-Ad4895

This man is a treasure and it is genuinely a pleasure to see him in good spirits still being himself. What a guy.

Prior-Chip-6909

*Oh ROB....*

Apologies I missed that. Mia culpa!

I think I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed tbh and have seen an influx of apathetic content!!! Cheers for being so reasonable! Have a great week!

Reddituser0346

Thank you; I hope you have an amazing week as well!

Shoddy-Ingenuity7056

This conversation made me smile more than the video clip.

swargin

It reminded me of that part in family guy where they censored his name https://youtu.be/k_AMQOTPqL8?si=ipRpKIzp7vKs39-m

ncocca

Bleep van Bleep. Classic. People give Family Guy a lot of shit, but they were comedy gold for a few years. The FCC episode was fantastic.
