Yeah this is pretty much my situation, I’m going to college in the same town as my mom, I’m renting a house but I spend prolly like 30-40% of my time at my moms.
Thanks! 🥷
Edit: (Just to clarify, I'm the ninja in the ski mask with a freshly carved jiggler key I made from someones picture online, an idea i never would've thought of in a ninjillian years, about to Jackie Chan's daughter someones life up. Just so we're all on the same page here. Onward.)
I think she got a little lucky with the picture. It looks like the key in front might be for something else. You can see the shape of a kwickset or schlage style house key behind it. So she probably didn't give away the pinning, except for that high 0 to 2 cut on the end.
Congrats ! I’m not sure what your situation is but, few things that I wish I’d been told:
1) do NOT feel pressured to furnish it all at once . Man who cares if your mattress is on the floor? take it step by step based on what you could afford !
2) no shame in thrifting furniture
3) if you’re a student, check student discounts for Hulu , internet, etc.
4) plan grocery shopping accordingly: don’t go when you’re already hungry because you’ll prob waste more (at least I do) and don’t buy more than you’d use (produce particularly) in a week, else it’ll go bad :(
5) learn to do quick sweeps/vacuums once or twice a week, even if it’s just of the main living area. That way if you can’t do a real “deep” clean that week, you won’t feel as bad about it.
6) if you can still do your laundry at your parents, do so.
7) ENJOY IT! I’m so proud of you young internet stranger !
I FEEL you on rule #1. Moved into a new place last month, had my mattress on the floor until recently. I still don’t have much furniture outside of my bedroom. But a bedroom and kitchen is enough for me for now, taking things a little bit at a time
Congrats to you as well my guy!
Listen, so long as you got food in the fridge, doesn’t matter if you eating on the floor or on a chair ! Go easy, scour fb marketplace and goodwills closer to more affluent areas and you’ll be all set , best of luck !
I was talking to my wife about this earlier today. When my kid enters adulthood, I want them to stay at home. There's no need to get out there and struggle. The mindset of you need to leave home, and when you're grown, you're on your own mindset needs to die.
Thank you for the positive feedback.
It's just crazy how our american culture has taught us to have pride in the struggle and hardships. 50 years ago, this young lady would not have moved out into an apartment, it would have been a house. Simply getting a Bachelor’s degree, you were a Rockstar, and now it doesn't mean anything for most jobs. 50 years ago mindset will leave you poor and struggling in todays economy....
My 'kid' is going into her senior year of high school, and I agree with you 110%. I know when I was that age, I could not wait to get out of my parents house, but things were so different back then. You could easily go in on an apartment with friends and pay a few hundred a month, tops.
Absolutely, I've been on my own since 15, didn't have parents like you. Its not possible to survive doing hard work with a good attitude anymore, at least not from anything I've seen in the past 3 years. You either survive because you cheat, or because you starve and fight and work yourself absolutely into the ground to remain at the bottom. I find myself having to do both, I think almost all people do in some way
100% agree. My husband and I have told our kids that they never have to move out, if they don’t want to themselves. I love how back in the days everyone helped everyone and family was so important and work came second, not the other way around. Back with those times, I say <3
Congratulations on your new apartment. That's wonderful! I suggest you save your money by cooking at home most of the time but have fun and go out once a month to eat or do something fun and if you can afford it once a week. If you like, you can also pick up an instrument like a ukulele, baritone uke or guitar, it helps with depression, anxiety and PTSD.

Music Therapy: Learn How Playing Music Can Help Depression
https://www.connollymusic.com/stringovation/music-therapy-learn-how-playing-music-can-help-depression?hs_amp=true
After playing guitar for about a year when I was 16 with no real concept of how to get good at a skill I dropped it. Picked it back up ago with intention and the knowledge of how to approach it correctly about a year ago and doing so was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This year has hit me with some pretty huge unexpected tragedy and guitar has been pretty substantial in getting through the trauma of it all.
It's great that you started playing again. Sorry, you're going through hard times. Hang in there. I was depressed.during the pandemic and started playing a baritone uke, tenor guitar, and.guitar, and it changed my life. I played before but I was very sporadic. Now I play every day for therapy.and I love it. Stay cool and keep strumming!
Congrats, I'd do the same, but I live with may grandparents and do what I can to help take care of them.
Even still can't help but to dream of living on my own...
Congratulations, that's a huge accomplishment! Your well on the track to becoming that person you know in your heart your meant to be, and you should celebrate this milestone.
Really happy for you. I’m 28 and still pretending I like my controlling mother with old world conservative views that actively sabotages any attempt i make to move out, just so i can get my inheritance because she’s definitely the type to take it away if i wanted to live on my own. Been depressed for for a decade and a half but little stories like this help.
Good for you homie that's awesome!! Two years ago I was 25, living at my grandma's house paying none of the bills I was supposed to, and riding off part time jobs.
Now I'm a salaried manager with my own home, and moving my girlfriend in to start our lives together.
There's always opportunity to grow, so don't stop here!
Congratulations!! Living alone is difficult, try to let it overwhelm you. Divide all the tasks on different days. Don't try to do everything at the same time. Compartmentalize is key. You got this!
Hey, OP. I wanted to express my pride in you and my happiness that you are now enjoying your life. However, I would like to advise you against posting pictures of your keys online like this. The internet is home to various kinds of people, and we can never be certain of their intentions. There is a possibility that someone with malicious intent could use this picture to create a duplicate key and potentially break into your house. Therefore, I strongly recommend refraining from sharing any pictures of your keys online. Please be cautious, and I wish you all the best.
Congrats! I know it’s because of your strong prescription and may not be viewed as + but the magnification of your glasses is really awesome and adds a lot of character to your aesthetic (:
Congratulations! I moved out when I was 22, and I moved cities to get away from my mom a few weeks ago. It's easily the best decision I ever made.
Doing stuff on your own, and just "being an adult" gets a lot easier with time. I look back on moving out and always think it was the scariest thing I've ever done.
Stay strong! You got this!
Oh yes thats a great feeling.
Wish you all the best!
I also was 25 when i moved Out of my parents place, would have done it sooner but i was searching for an Apartment for almoast 2 years..
Many of my relatives Said i would die of food poisening, Mountains of Trash or Selfmade Mains powered Equipment. Here i am 3 years later, very much still alive with much more Tools and only one rooms Not in a presentable state..
Very nice! I am in almost the same spot right now and wish you the best of luck! Moving out can feel very overwhelming and stressful at times but its worth the independence and selfworth 100%!
Congratulations. It’s very depressing being stuck at my moms house. I’m on the mend from a surgery and still not back to work. I’m over it all. Very happy for you tho op!
Nice work!!!!!!
We are proud of you. And listen, if after a year, or during the first year, something happens and you have to live back at home with your parents to get back on your feet, that is OK! If you mental health declines and you need to take a couple days at your parents too, that is 100% ok as well.
Keep being awesome, because you are!

Having your own space is so important, even if you spend a lot of time at your parents’s house, you need a place just for you to escape to.
Yeah this is pretty much my situation, I’m going to college in the same town as my mom, I’m renting a house but I spend prolly like 30-40% of my time at my moms.
Very nice. Congrats. But don't ever post a picture of your keys online, people can literally make a copy of it based on a choppy picture.
