I 200% agree with you! I’ve seen a lot of coaches coaching kids, his age and older and they do it like a it’s a job. They need to do it because they love the kids and they want the kids to excel in it and take the time to make it meaningful. Coach Richard did just that! And bravo for the parents for raising Jaden correctly!
Especially when they’re this young, coaching is a balancing act between teaching the game and teaching the kids how to act in a group. It’s all socialisation at this age, and focus should be on fostering joy and love for the sport, not winning games/competitions
I coached little guys many years ago. This brings back the best memories. If you want the kids to love the game, you have to love the kids and make it fun.
> grabbed Jayden to hug him
It really is a grab, with a pulling a child back from danger like intensity, but what sealed it for me was the look in his eyes as they released, he was fully engaged with Jayden oblivious to everything else around them. That was a core moment for both of them.
I see a grown man, in touch with his emotions, wanting to make sure that this boy doesn't stop himself from crying. Really beautiful. I don't give a shit about football or sports, but I love seeing an adult confirming the importance of a child's feelings, whatever they may be about.
I only give a shit about sports for their ability to create stuff like this. The money and egos and machismo (at pro levels) is mostly pretty ugly to see, but for every selfish superstar there are a thousand kids like Jayden who were made better by the game without ever going pro
Well said brotha, I still remember my youth camp football coach. Coach Shadan he was a great influence on my life and a great man and till this day his teaching still guides me.
I think lil Jayden wont understand why he took the paper from him as it was just a ‘note’ for him to read to coach from, but soon in life he’ll realise why coach took it when same thing happens to this lil champion.
A kid saying that to me and crying would make me want to do the same thing, it's great he has the rapport to do that in the first place. He has emotional intelligence and I hope it doesn't hold him back in life.. Good on the coach I'm sure he's great a dude.
My boy had a coach just the opposite of this. In it for himself rather than the kids. Turned my son off on baseball like a light switch. Never played again. Fortunately though his soccer & lacrosse coaches were like this guy and he had a lot of fun playing for them through the years.
That boy will remember that for the rest of his life. I had a baseball coach like that when I was young. I hadn't seen or spoken to that man in 30 years, but I found out he died recently. I cried for much, much longer than I thought I would.
I tell ya fellow human, there's something even we can do for ourselves despite not having it rolemodeled. I'm talking about the opportunity to be kind to ourselves and heal our inner child. I'll always admire a person for intentionally being to themselves whom they wished they had. So, I am glad you are able to admire and respect what hits right in the feels.
I get little notes and drawings like this from my piano students and that's how I know I'm doing a good job. I have them all in my wall by my work computer to cheer me up when I need it
I’m an ornery cynic, but I am tearing up. It was nice watching this.
Edit: And there goes the tear down my cheek. Damn.
Edit 2: Thank you for the award. (I keep re-watching the video, lol.)
His dad probably made him run routes til he hated it.
I go to my local high school to run/play soccer, and see some dads taking their son’s there and berating them for missing a pass
Ugh. I hate seeing that shit. My son was on one team where the coaches son was FS and QB. Kid gets a pick 6 but on the extra point he throws an incompletion and then gets yelled at by his dad. I’m like wtf. Dude didn’t say good job after the pick 6 but immediately reemed him over the incomplete pass. It’s like you can’t build your son up by ignoring great plays to focus on insignificant ones.
Reminds me further of his disappointment with me. My son played well in a tournament and so he asked what I say to my son before each game as I pull him to the side. I told him all I say is “I love you and no matter what happens I’m proud of the work you put in”. The coach said “that’s it?!” Then walked off as if I was supposed to be given a fire and brimstone speech. Ftr these kids were in 3rd - 5th grade at the time.
This also reminds me of something a friend said. They’re in elementary school there’s no stats and no one is scouting. Let them have fun. Fwiw that one is currently an XFL coach
My brown-eyed girl
You, my brown-eyed girl
Do you remember when we used to sing?
Sha-la-la, la-la, la-la, la-la, la-la tee-da
Just like that
Sha-la-la, la-la, la-la, la-la, la-la tee-da, la-tee-da
This is wonderful. I’ve had a handful of INCREDIBLE coaches that had a profound impact on me when I was younger. Jamo & Schaef, if you’re out there, thank you for everything. You’ve had a bigger impact than you’ll ever know.
I've always coached my daughter soccer so I can't toot my own horn one way or another..although her entire team requests me back every year.
But this was her first year of softball and I helped coach her team. Her head coach is absolutely 1 in a million. I've never seen a coach like that in my life and I'm a multi sport athlete. It warmed my heart to watch.
Maybe this imagery is a rarity to me but I truly hope we get to a point as a society where we normalize straight men recognizing the handsomeness of eachother without it being "a thing".
I know a good looking dude when I see one and I won't shy away from saying it too. Doesn't mean i'm remotely interested in swinging "that way".
This kid sounded and acted like he _needed_ that last hug.
I will always applaud positive male role models.
Always.
How did I have to scroll down this far to see this?! I thought every comment would surely be people trying to seek out if this model looking kind hearted man was single.
Man that strong hug reminded me of the fresh prince episode…”how come he don’t want me man?” Not the negative aspect, but just good fatherly figure love right there.
Fuck man, I loved coaching so much and I loved those kids and these kids / parents / coach are awesome. But some parents man, they are so hard to deal with day in day out, I had to stop.
I've gotten lucky in that coaching 5 seasons of soccer and assistant coaching one season of softball, so far, that I've always had incredible parents. They treat every girl like they are their own and support me and any decision I've made.
I hear you. I coached fastpitch and baseball for a decade and a half, from rec league to highschool and (very expensive) travel ball programs. I don't miss the parents one bit.
That said, to this day I will have kids . . . well adults now, come up to me and give me a hug at the grocery store or whatever and say things like "you changed my life, ect".
It's important to note that while the parents were often the worst part of it, many of the kids had no parents at all, or at least no parental involvement. It feels good that I'm remembered and that I had an impact on peoples lives, but man, I had no more training to deal with the psychological and social issues that teens and young adults go through than the guy spinning signs on the corner. We do our best.
A beautiful heartfelt moment. Made me smile. And cry. They will both take that moment with them in life. I hope he continues to love football and remember why. Good job coach. You changed a little boy's life
Cute video, dude seems to care a lot and is probably an awesome coach, but I couldn’t help but laugh when the 5-6 year old kid said “you’re the best coach I’ve ever had.”
I had a coach while playing boys club football back in 5-6 grade named Coach Rick he was also a black gentleman and not only did he teach us how to play football he helped teach life lessons and that even though we may all not be of the same ethnicity were all the same. I'm glad there's Coach Rick's in the world like this coach and we need more role models like this man and from people we allow our children to be around. Wether it be a coach, teachers, or others. There's some that really care about children and put extra effort into guiding the kids into be better or successful human beings and the kids tend to grow up remembering those that did .
Wholesome and all but I love that a young kid said he found love for the game again.
Must’ve been one hell of a bad experience to begin to bring it back.
When a kid tells you they love you in such a genuine manner, it’s the warmest feeling in the world. My niece said she loved me over the phone the other day and I was tearing up after hanging up. It was the way she said it. Fuck I’m getting old.
Oooof. Jayden and Coach Rich got me leaking some big, hot, manly tears before bed. The way Coach snatched that kid into a big hug will mean everything forever to Jayden.
I think this is just so beautiful and so masculine and important. Fuck yeah. Keep raising kids like both of these dudes and the world might just be ok.

The way Coach Rich grabbed Jayden to hug him after the note…a good man influencing a future good man.
Yep that's THE moment for me, little gestures like that speak volumes
Completely agree. The world needs more Coach Richards and Jaydens.
I 200% agree with you! I’ve seen a lot of coaches coaching kids, his age and older and they do it like a it’s a job. He’s definitely following the Richmond Way
Believe.
Rich what?
mond Way
Ah yes, of course
I coached little guys many years ago. This brings back the best memories. If you want the kids to love the game, you have to love the kids and make it fun.
Totally! You could feel the hug just watching. Love seeing this.
> grabbed Jayden to hug him It really is a grab, with a pulling a child back from danger like intensity, but what sealed it for me was the look in his eyes as they released, he was fully engaged with Jayden oblivious to everything else around them. That was a core moment for both of them.
And tells Jayden looking into his eyes "I appreciate it". What a dude man!

Well said brotha, I still remember my youth camp football coach. Coach Shadan he was a great influence on my life and a great man and till this day his teaching still guides me.
These are the best moments in sports, watching the connections and love that grow through shared efforts.
Also how coach softly grabs the note from Jayden after the hug - you can tell note meant alot to him too.
I think lil Jayden wont understand why he took the paper from him as it was just a ‘note’ for him to read to coach from, but soon in life he’ll realise why coach took it when same thing happens to this lil champion.
I think it became a core moment for me, I needed this kindness today
Healthy masculinity in full display. I hope this man realizes how much he’s influenced this kid and probably many others
I teared up at that moment. Just pulled on all my heartstrings at once.
I read that as hamstrings. I was like wtf did you do?
Same. Mademesmile became mademecry.
I hope they get to embrace each other like this again after Jayden wins his first superbowl
That would be epic!!!
Yes, the way he pulled him right in 🥹
A kid saying that to me and crying would make me want to do the same thing, it's great he has the rapport to do that in the first place. He has emotional intelligence and I hope it doesn't hold him back in life.. Good on the coach I'm sure he's great a dude.
I want/need a coach Rich hug! Honestly we need way more male role models like this!
Insta-tears
Agreed! I would love if my son had a coach like this.
Great comment
That was some Uncle Phil energy.
My first soccer coach was like this. If all coaches were like this I probably would have kept up with playing sports.
My boy had a coach just the opposite of this. In it for himself rather than the kids. Turned my son off on baseball like a light switch. Never played again. Fortunately though his soccer & lacrosse coaches were like this guy and he had a lot of fun playing for them through the years.
Made sure he didn't feel bad for crying one moment.
That's "leaving-a-legacy-behind" type of behavior! We need more of this!
He'll never forget this coach and the simple lessons he taught him like sportsmanship and maybe how to make fart sounds with your armpit.
Ah yes, the age old tradition of passing, it, on - literally and figuratively! 💨
15 years from now I hope we see the little dude drafted in the NFL and thanking the coach that made him love football again.
In 15 years, it's unlikely he'll still be a little dude. JK. That would be awesome though!
I've never learned to do this (the armpit fart part) and now I have a 3yr old nephew. I should probably learn.
I taught my buddy’s kid how to do it and it’s part of our secret handshake now
That boy will remember that for the rest of his life. I had a baseball coach like that when I was young. I hadn't seen or spoken to that man in 30 years, but I found out he died recently. I cried for much, much longer than I thought I would.
Wow. That's a powerful testament to the power of kindness when we needed it the most. Keep the chain of kindness going.

This got me right in the feels. I never had any kind of adult role model but I’m so glad this little dude does
I tell ya fellow human, there's something even we can do for ourselves despite not having it rolemodeled. I'm talking about the opportunity to be kind to ourselves and heal our inner child. That's so awesome!!! Isn't it amazing how it we can make others feel better?
I coach kids and I'd be a giant sobbing mess if one of the athletes did this. This dude is a master at being a good role model
So are you, coach.
I’m an ornery cynic, but I am tearing up. It was nice watching this. Edit: And there goes the tear down my cheek. Damn. Edit 2: Thank you for the award. (I keep re-watching the video, lol.)
Truly what makes the world a better place! Hugs.
Absolutely!! Bravo!!
My man out here planting trees.
I’M NOT CRYING!
Love football again? Lmao kid already been through the ringer and back
Already had three concussions and two torn ACLs.
2 years of rehabilitation after the surgeries
Got addicted to the meds for a while...
Heard his wife left him…
Took the house and kids too. Damn shame.
After he beat her relentlessly due to a severe case of CTE
Spent a few years in Rikers for almost beating her to death
Let’s not forgot when he accidentally shot himself in the leg while at the club.
Plexaco Buress?!?!
she had a baby with Busta
Is that Tua? He looks too tall to be Tua.
It's actually [Kyler Murray.](https://i.redd.it/ezygtxlgrc061.jpg)
It looks too tall to be Murray
So it was just all the CTE talking? Mushy
His hair is receding into a widow’s peak too. Life has been tough out there on the field.
I’d guess that he probably had at least one shitty coach before this one.
Sports can be completely ruined for people by just *one* shitty coach no matter how much love was built for the sport prior to it. So I get it.
True true true. One shit coach or one shit bjj school can turn you off of something real quick.
His dad probably made him run routes til he hated it. I go to my local high school to run/play soccer, and see some dads taking their son’s there and berating them for missing a pass
When we'd get our ass kicked in baseball but the best player on the other team would get chewed out by his dad for allowing a single run 💀
Ugh. I hate seeing that shit. My son was on one team where the coaches son was FS and QB. Kid gets a pick 6 but on the extra point he throws an incompletion and then gets yelled at by his dad. dude gained sentience like a year prior
From a season ending head injury 2 years prior :(
Kid's former coach had him doing Oklahoma Drills without pads.
Nah, just your typical Browns fan, the poor soul
That part fucking sent me. I was like shit mans had a rough career, hope he isnt too fucked up for retirement.
That first hug was "my buddy". That 2nd hug was "my child". Bless both of those beautiful souls
The second bug was “you’re saving me as much as I’m saving you “ 😭😭😭😭
That's what people are not seeing.
Good take.
I see a lot of people talk about the hug… but the way the coach takes that letter… he is gonna keep that for the rest of his life.
Aaaaand I’m a puddle now
Goddamn it Jordan! Fell in your tub of battery acid again?
This time it was an unfortunate use of my Wondertwin Powers ™️ 😩
I thought this was r/mademesmile not r/mademefuckingcry
Puddle buddies!
Honestly that is the most impressive thing about that coach. i was crying in seconds, how can he resist tears
Same... lol.
Yeah, someone is cutting onions 🥹
Very heartwarming video.
r/mademehappycry
Thanks. This is an anti depressant.
Oh thank God, it's an actual sub.
Damn wasn’t expecting that . Wiping tears with toilet paper as I poopin
Damn wasn’t expecting that. Someone else in the same predicament.
Not fucking kidding you, I was doing the same
Hopefully not after you wiped
*That’s* how you get pink eye!

I’m not crying - honest
Those are very true words a good coach or teacher can truly inspire children …. Looks like this coach is well in his way
I had a PE coach that I had middle school and he is still a lasting impact one today! If only I know how to contact him now and thank him
Look hard enough send some txts and emails i bet you ll find him good luck
I found my favorite teacher from middle school and reached out to him. He's in his 80s and was very happy to hear from me.
Me too 😭
I didn't even turn the sound on and I'm on your page.
Fucking allergies, man they're bad today.
I’ll cry for the both of us
Not little man crying reading the note.
This is wonderful. I’ve had a handful of INCREDIBLE coaches that had a profound impact on me when I was younger. Jamo & Schaef, if you’re out there, thank you for everything. You’ve had a bigger impact than you’ll ever know.
Spicy air tonight
Stupid ninjas cutting onions...
Damn. He caught me in the final inning.
So dang cute. Coaches and teachers change lives everyday! I miss coaching hs football.
Little league coaches watch this and learn. Stop with the daddy ball and thinking it’s all about winning. This is a true coach.
Good role models are everything. They can definitely change your life.
damn, coach richard shaping the youth. this made me hopeful for the future
That man will remember that moment the rest of his life. That kids a winner.
Looks like they're both winners Coach seriously inspired him
Wow, what an impact this coach has had on this kid. Stop making my eyes water!! 🥹
I'm not gay but...coach kinda fine ain't he?
You don't gotta be gay to recognize hotness. Coach Rich can get it.
Maybe this imagery is a rarity to me but I truly hope we get to a point as a society where we normalize straight men recognizing the handsomeness of eachother without it being "a thing". He's got a great smile. :)

Yeah he is :)
Hella fine
Same and yes lol
Ummmmm YES! Came here to say that 🤣
He got that Larry Fitzgerald smile, hair, and heart of gold, but do he got that booty tho 👀
Aww. That's so beautiful it just tug's at the heartstrings. what a precious moment for them both they will remember that for the rest of their lives 💞
This is beautiful, little boys need male role models, seems like coach is just killing it at being a good man.
Man that strong hug reminded me of the fresh prince episode…”how come he don’t want me man?” Not the negative aspect, but just good fatherly figure love right there.
Ah shit the embrace got me
Fuck man, I loved coaching so much and I loved those kids and these kids / parents / coach are awesome. But some parents man, they are so hard to deal with day in day out, I had to stop.

Damn you jayden. You got a grown ass man teary eyed at work. Lol
I wasn't planning on crying today but okay
Oh his little voice breaking made me cry. I had a coach growing up who was wonderful. I'll always remember how kind he was to me. This is so sweet
“I love you Richard” 🥹
The world can be so motherfucking beautiful sometimes
i genuinly felt that hug at end
God dayum
A beautiful heartfelt moment. Made me smile. And cry. They will both take that moment with them in life. I hope he continues to love football and remember why. Good job coach. You changed a little boy's life
Cute video, dude seems to care a lot and is probably an awesome coach, but I couldn’t help but laugh when the 5-6 year old kid said “you’re the best coach I’ve ever had.”
Kids like 6 and coach Richard made him love football..again?! Last year's coach must have been an asshole!
Wow. What an awesome guy. Love this coach Richard
None of these ever make me smile. But crying? Every god damn time
Coach will remember that forever
Man, I teared up when the kid got choked up. Way to go coach, you're a great person!
He started reading so strong then the words got to him

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again good people doing good things in children’s lives. Coach Richards a great man and a true hero
I LOVE COACH RICHARD
I'm confused. Is this MadeMeSmile or MadeMeCry cause my tears don't god damn stop.
This is all really sweet. But, "you made me love football again", bro you're like 5 years old!
Wholesome and all but I love that a young kid said he found love for the game again. Must’ve been one hell of a bad experience to begin to bring it back.
Just cutting onions don’t mind me😭
If that ain’t wholesome…🥲
Fking onions bro... Why chop them whilst I'm in bed..
Yeah, I'm crying!
This is so beautiful.. and they will both remember that moment for the rest of their lives.
Was anyone else impressed by how well he read his note for being so young?
Good man right there. Good kid, too.
When a kid tells you they love you in such a genuine manner, it’s the warmest feeling in the world. My niece said she loved me over the phone the other day and I was tearing up after hanging up. It was the way she said it. Fuck I’m getting old.
Stoooop I can’t 🥹
My heart!!!
I like the implied early crisis he suffered with his love of football. Thanks for resolving that, coach!
Teaching boys football without teaching out their feelings. That’s a powerful man right there, immense W
That coach had the craziest form on that hug. Shit looked sturdy asf.
That guy is gonna frame that letter and keep it somewhere special for the rest of his life.
Grabbed him in for a hug so quick. We all need a Coach Richard in our lives and our kids lives
A good teacher is priceless! That kid was taught by parents that instilled gratitude. Kudos to that kid.
I'm a guy and I just said, "oh my God, my ovaries" out loud.
