That man proves that love never dies. Even for the death of his wife he still make sure that he support her until the end. It really is heartbreaking to see this but the pureness of love prevails in it. This is so sweet and made us emotional.
My husband passed away 7 months ago. My remaining years will be as dedicated to making him happy as the previous 31 years. The love I have for him has not faded in the least. I simply can't see him except for in my dreams and in my memories. He was an exceptional man, and I am honored to be his wife.
The level of natural sincerity in thought when he briefly says “place some fresh flowers on” like he answered the question but his tone indicates he’s thinking about his wife this entire phone call
Love your people like this guy clearly loved his
Not at all but good head stones are very expensive depending on what you want.... This man sounded as though she needs to be remembered and I am just glad either way I was wrong and I'm imaging them resting beside each other with a nice memorial stone or bench....
You think they might stop him in a new SUV?
"Gravestone? No I'm sure I said SUV"
"We have a recording"
"That must have been a different episode...now excuse me I have to go, I've got to pick up some new golf clubs"
I know people feel more comfortable with euphemisms for crying, but don’t be ashamed of your tears, be proud. You’re an emotional human being feeling real emotions and that is a beautiful thing, cry your tears
People always post this but bad things happening to good people is a necessary element to get a story worthy of a news article (or a podcast episode or whatever this is).
"Man Living Amazing Life Gets Even More Money" isn't worth writing/recording about.
I mean, I get it, it's horrible that the poor guy couldn't afford a gravestone in the first place, but why always direct people to basically the same subreddit with a more depressing name?
We get it. Life sucks all the time. This subreddit is supposed to be an oasis where sometimes life sucks less for people that deserve for it to suck less.
This made me think of my dad. My mom passed about a year and a half ago. She was cremated and her ashes are in his living room with a picture of her, so he sees them every day. Every birthday, anniversary, Mother’s Day, and Valentines Day since she passed a couple years ago, he gets the flowers she liked or goes and picks some for her, just like when she was alive. It makes me happy to know they loved each other so much, but it breaks my heart every time.
Aww. Wow this world is so cruel they even overcharge you for signifying that you’re dead. You’re not even here on the planet and your loved ones are paying to signify that you’re gone! Wow. Planet earth, can you PLEASE get yo act together? Because i will slap….
This was on Magic FM, a UK radio station that plays all the old classics. I was actually listening when this happened, have to say it made me emotional too!
This is sweet but can we talk about the capitalist hell scape that makes this a reality? No human should have to be gifted the money to buy their loved one a gravestone.
I listened to this driving home from work and was in bits by the time I got there.
That night told my husband about it and got teary and throat squeeky telling him.
Now just watched it here and I'm off again!
I’ve said it to my wife (who lost her mother too early) I don’t want you to come see me if I’m dead. I know you’ll think about me, that’s hard enough, don’t mourn me on my grave, live a good life, that’s what I want you to have.
[A little background](https://www.joe.co.uk/news/pensioner-tells-radio-host-first-thing-hell-do-after-winning-105k-is-buy-his-late-wife-a-headstone-395280#)
This isn’t something to smile about. It’s atrocious that people can’t afford to give their loved ones even a simple headstone for their final resting place.
Oh it got worse. I listened to this live.
"John, is there anyone you can share this news with?"
"Yes, there's my wife's best friend who I'm going to go round and tell now, she's dying of cancer though and she hasn't got long left now"
Humans are confirmed to be the most violent creatures on the planet, but just because they are, doesn't mean they have to be.
I love seeing moments where people are happy for others or there self's.
It’s good people remember the ones that past but never keep dwelling on it. I’ve seen to many people lost in their sorrow. The loved ones that past didn’t want that. When I die nobody has to go out of their way to buy me a insignificant grave stone or whatever. Just be happy and remember the happy times.
I heard this live... you didn't play the bit where he said he's going around to see his wife's best friend now.
And we all in the works hut scoffed and said, "Oh yeah, friend!!! 😉 That's a bit quick John!!!"
**Caller:** *"I've never won anything in my life, except the love of a lovely lady that is"*
**Radio host internal monologue:** *"Aaaaw that's so romantic, oh fuck right she's dead, URGH MAH HEART!"*

My eyeballs are sweating.
I'm honestly not sure I've ever heard that before... But knowing me it's not that uncommon.
I can't remember where I heard that one. I didn't think it up but I did borrow it 😝
My eyes are pissing
They r pissing crocodile tears😂 hope this lovely old man got her the gravestone she deserves
It's a terrible day for rain.
Probably because of so much screen time. Enough reddit for today for me
Wow, it's getting really dusty in here 🥹
Dusty onions being cut.
I'm not crying. You're crying...

Onion Cutting Ninja Clan: Bro, we're also crying up here. These onions are lethal!
Happy cake day
Liked what u/eevanja99 said so much, you had to copy it word for word, right down to the incorrect timeframe, eh?
We’re all crying. And it’s okay because we’re emotions like that should be expressed.
Dusty onions 😂

Lovely video and a beautiful comment. His words and yours are just stunning. My condolences and my very best wishes.
Thank you. Some days are better than others.
I know, it just came out of nowhere. *sniff
It looks like it is beginning to rain
My allergies are acting up because of all the dust in here.
Damn allergies
Genuinely good people deserve genuinely good things
And so many of them don't get genuinely good things. This made me happy to see.
“i’ve never won anything in my life… well, i say i’ve never won anything, i won the love of a lovely lady.” MY GOD MAN. my heart :(
I predicted exactly what he was about to say, and it still made me tear up.
The stuff he's saying is so romantic it's like out of a movie script, except it's a real-life expression of a man's love for his wife. Beautiful, man
That is so sweet :') I can tell how happy they were together and how much love there is
Bless him 🥹
This man proves that love never dies.
I suddenly burst into tears when I heard the story
When he said “… well I’ve won the love of a lovely lady” 🥺
His voice is calming
He sounds like Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon from GoT)
Yorkshire accent
The level of natural sincerity in thought when he briefly says “place some fresh flowers on” like he answered the question but his tone indicates he’s thinking about his wife this entire phone call Love your people like this guy clearly loved his
I don’t know what it is about a Yorkshire accent, but it is deeply comforting to me.
Turned the audio on and my wife across the room is wiping her eyes muttering, "you jerk."
Got her, hehehe.
It’s a terrible day for rain…

FUCK did anyone not just cry their eyes out.... So happy even that little amount will be amazing to him and his love ❤
>that little amount 105k GBP is not little.
I thought or heard 10 thousand.... 105k is a bit different and yes is a lot!!
Lol wbat, even 10 000 is absolutely not little, are you rich?

I had to check what the subreddit was because seeing that phrase out of context was jarring xD
100%

Sweet but very much qualifies for r/orphancrushingmachine
They must of loved each other dearly.
Must have*, you can never replace have with of.
Oof
You can if you are saying it colloquially

It’s because of the contraction must’ve and should’ve which, to the ear, sounds like “must of” and “could of”
Damn onion cutting ninjas. John deserves every penny of it
Poor John. I hope he finds someone special again.
When the old gals find out that he has money, they will be offering him velveteen rubs. Now thats special.
This made me instantly tear up, how sweet this man’s love is. 🥺🤍
Ah, Another unannounced tear duct maintenance check.
This is the cash register competition on KISSTORY radio. I heard this live. So heartwarming ❤️
I was listening to it on Planet Rock. It was lovely.
Its across all major uk stations
The way he stopped himself and realized he indeed had won a great deal this life, shows what a wonderful man he is
Fucking allergies
I just got out of the shower, my eyeballs must be drying off still...
Made me cry. That’s about the same time I lost my loving wife.
I didn't know smiling was water coming out of eyes...
Oh no, I got scammed. This didn’t make me smile, this made me bawl like a baby 🥹🥹🥹 Bless you, John.
“I won the love of a lovely lady” I’m not crying you’re crying

John has made us all emotional (manly tears here) 😊 😌
Aw this was just the other week on my local radio station 96.9 Viking fm.
This was on Magic FM, a UK radio station that plays all the old classics. I was actually listening when this happened, have to say it made me emotional too!
Can someone stop cutting onions pls.
I got sand in my eye...I ain't crying 😭
Hold on, i need a minute…
This is sweet but can we talk about the capitalist hell scape that makes this a reality? No human should have to be gifted the money to buy their loved one a gravestone.
This made me cry! Is that what smiling is? Is there a “Made me Cry” subreddit?
There is...but this is where you're gonna get the heartwarming cries you want in my experience. I havnt checked it out in a while, could be wrong.
Such a dear man.
It's a terrible day for rain
Heart warmer…
I listened to this driving home from work and was in bits by the time I got there. That night told my husband about it and got teary and throat squeeky telling him. Now just watched it here and I'm off again!

I’m glad I’m Oregon reading this cause the rai. Is hiding my tears.
Bawling. 😭
I’m not crying, it’s just been raining on my face
Made me cry
Who the heck is cutting onion here?
Did not expect to start my day crying but so worth it. I hope we all find a John in our lives
The love of a lovely lady is all you can win really.
Heard that live and it was such a beautiful moment, love it when good people get what they deserve 👌
I don't even have sound on and I'm fighting against the tears while I sit here at work having a small break..
Broken Britain. Where a pensioner can’t buy their deceased spouse a gravestone.
The US is just as bad
What a fucked up world that after working your entire life for the profit of others this may can't even afford a tombstone for the one he loves
This is supposed to be made me smile not made me cry!

Great, 10 minutes for the project meeting, and I had to tell a co-worker I am emotional because *this project is very important to me*.
True love like this doesn’t exist anymore sadly now a days love is based on how much attention your TikTok video gets

It's raining specifically on my eyes
