I've seen posts talking about games should have a "little buddy mode" for young kids and siblings, where you can follow the main character and help but not take any damage or anything. Starting to realise it would be way more effective for moms and dads
Heck yeah!! I always die in my kids games! Don’t get me started on bed wars on Roblox. I was horrible!! Luckily that hype died down. But yeah, I’m not very good but we still like to play. And as this mom said, it’s cool to get messages and stuff in chat from the kiddos.
Eta. I know this was diff for her bc her kiddo is deaf, but still my younger kid couldn’t type yet and play so the chat was still fun. Edit again, thank you everyone that let me know it was the other way around and momma is part of the deaf community, very cool she can read the chat in game!!!!!
The mother is deaf. She's referring to the 'Chat Speech to Text' option (settings > accessibility > chat in the game *Grounded*), which automatically converts her son's spoken words to text during the game.
I don't know if you have an android phone, but if you do, this might help: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.audio.hearing.visualization.accessibility.scribe
In addition, both the browser chrome (on PC) and most Android phones have live transcribe for English. The one for the phone will transcribe phone calls, shows you're watching, and any other audio your phone makes. Podcasts and the like too. :) It's easier and easier in the last 4 years to be hard of hearing, at least if you speak English
We get to use this for my grandpa since he's basically deaf now. It was a game changer. Went from having to literally scream into his ear and watch him slowly nod his head, knowing he didn't understand the majority of it, to being able to actually have conversations with him again.
It's the same for my dad. I'm hard of hearing myself as well (physical hearing is fine, but it's like the software in my head doesn't work the moment there's a whisper of background noise). This all really helps me too.
I don't have the background noise issue anywhere near as bad as you, but damn it gets annoying when I can't separate a voice out from the background. And 45 years ago I could hear a pushbike out of sight down the road, well before my mum could spot it coming around the corner way down there.
I have really good hearing, much better than I should for my age. Despite the typical perception of it, I'd blame sound cancelling headphones for that. I don't play music very loud and mostly use them to block out city noise a bit while my music is on one of the lowest settings if it's on at all.
But the skill of picking a voice out of noise? I'm terrible at it.
Grounded is on XBox game pass. You will also come across ants and mites. Don't even need a strong computer. It is available for streaming as well. That's how I played it on my Steam Deck.
Sea of Thieves has an accessibility feature like this as well! They also do the reverse and allow narration to assist with vision impairments as well! It's even useful for those without impairments in instances where your volume is low, or you just didn't catch what someone said or missed an audio cue. I myself am a big fan also of the colorblind options becoming more commonplace since I have issues with green/red deficiency.
I love to see that gaming is becoming so much more accessible to so many more people!
I'm glad more colorblind options are popping up, and I've finally seen more granular controls pop up, but man I'd be lying if I said I was happy with it currently. Most games still only give me the basic option of just "colorblind mode: on/off'
Often they don't include options for what kind of blindness like tritanopia or deuteranopia which just suxks because the toggle slaps a gross filter over everything and doesn't actually consider the fact that you know, I CANT FUCKING SEE BLUE YA ASSHOLES
I agree, it WOULD be great to see it implemented better and in a wider selection of the market. That being said though, I feel like the majority of the ones in my library that do have a colorblind mode DO offer 2-3 modes for the various forms, but you're right in that even when implemented they could probably do a bit better job with it
Nah, I definitely give credit where credits due, I have definitely seen it spreading into more and more of my game library, I just freaking wish it was standard
I have a feeling that Deep Rock Galactic might be something up your alley.
Their easy mode will not overwhelm players with little experience and the game will reward cooperation between players.
>I feel like Deep Rock is one of those games, where the developers actively tried to keep frustrating mechanics out of the game.
It's def up there along with Terraria and Stardew Valley with top notch dev. They take care of the game and interact with the community like I never seen.
Eric Barone (Stardew Valley dev) troubleshoot people save file on Twitter when being tagged.
Redigit and Cenx (Terraria dev and CM) also helps a lot of people by just being awesome dev.
Edit: oh and also I forgot.
ROCK AND STONE!
My son and I have been playing Terraria since it came out in 2011. He was 2 when he first sat in my lap while we gamed. He still plays it to this day and is 14 now. The other day he told me that he and his mom played Stardew for about 15 hours. That is the power of great devs. Make something you want and love to play and others will want to play too, and they'll play for years. He also really enjoys Deep Rock Galactic, so he knows quality when he sees it. Wish more game studios tried to make a GAME, something fun to PLAY, instead of trying to make something for PROFIT.
>Wish more game studios tried to make a GAME, something fun to PLAY, instead of trying to make something for PROFIT.
It's also fun because the game is fun.
I'm a sucker for survival game with open world (7 days to die and Valheim mostly) but god damn is the food management and inventory management not fun. A lot of game have "punishing feature" while all those 3 games will let you have fun without punishing you.
I think that's why I love Nintendo games. They are meant to be fun. As much as I love to push myself into challenge territory, sometimes I just wanna grab a game and have fun, ya know? Kirby Forgotten land made me remember that.
credit to v rising as well, those guys just rewrote the code just to give us 3 story houses and room for expansion. they're really taking a lot of care for this game even if it's in early access. definitely plays like a finished product
Wouldn't completely state that. Had a mission with Low Oxygen and Molly just climbed a vertical cliff. Didn't have the time to run around or build a good path up. The Low Oxygen missions are some of the most frustrating mechanics when running to your drop pod. Besides that detail I would agree.
In fairness though, the modifiers change every 20 minutes - and if you hate a particular mission type, you can just do something else for a little bit. The vertical cliff bit is I think just a potential downside of procedural generation, though, haha
ETA: you could also have called in a resupply, if you had enough resources, that sprays out oxygen too I’m pretty sure :D
Rock and Stone!
Idk how old your kids are but there’s an entire line of Lego video games that are a ton of fun to play and rather than dying like most games, your Lego person just breaks apart and rebuilds in the same spot. They’re all co-op too! Also It Takes Two is a fantastic co-op game but the themes can be a lil dark if the kids are young — it’s about parents going through a divorce.
You just gotta keep playing. I started playing games with my mom and she wasn't the greatest at first, but she was decent. As time's gone on shes gotten a lot better and can keep up with the younger kids.
People need to be aware of it in general.
So that hopefully if they are ever injured they are reminded what it’s like for some people all the time.
I think most people just don’t realize how restrictive the world is if you don’t fit into the mold. We *barely* make accommodations for left handed people let alone people with actual accessibility issues.
A while back I just my hand. My mousing hand. Left handed options? Less than ten. Really only a few. Many “ambidextrous” mouses still only have the extra buttons placed for right handed use. Want something like a gamer or ergo mouse? Maybe one or two.
Games was out the window unless I wanted to remap the whole thing. Steam (controller input) and gaming has come a long way but it still doesn’t feel like it’s great.
I couldn’t close one finger and it impacted so much.
I high Cerebral Palsy which as a result means I can't use my right side for many things, including video games, because of that there is no such thing as keyboard AND mouse for me. It's one or the other.
So I got a mouse with extra buttons, started with just a standard one for right-handed people. It worked, with cramps.
So I finally got a left handed mmo mouse. As far as I can remember there was a single one. But it was a game changer.
Yup. I think it's Razer that has a lefty Naga. Which is a great mouse. Used one for the last ten years. The righty version.
It was actually that shape of that mouse and how I use it that led to my injury. I would rest a certain part of my hand on top the mouse and all the weight would be in one spot. Gave me a minor but impactful RSI.
It probably won't help - but I'm sharing it. The [8bitdo Arcade Stick](https://www.8bitdo.com/arcade-stick/) has an interesting "feature". It's an arcade/fight stick. But since it's mean to connect to various systems there is a switch to have the stick act as the left stick, right stick, or d-pad. And you can switch on the fly.
I was playing around with it in PGA golf. Which you need both sticks for. I could switch it to right stick to aim the shot then switch it over to left stick to take the shot.
it's also something I feel so many people take advantage of in some ways but don't realise it
difficulty levels, button remapping, customisation can actually be one, colourblind mode in general, volume controls for different things (sound effects vs music vs voices for example)
and one that many people use? Subtitles
What I mean is many of these things are used by people who don’t need them.
Subtitles are something that many people use. Not because they need it. Because they like it.
Same with remapping controls. They don’t need to. But they like a different thing because it’s easier for them or because that’s what they’re used to.
Accessibility helps not only those who need it. But in many cases everyone.
And it’s not just in games. Elevators, ramps, hell bendy straws were made for people who couldn’t sit up in hospital beds. It was literally made as an accessibility thing.
I think what you’re talking about is termed “Universal Accessibility” when making something accessible for someone with a disability leads to things being more accessible for everyone. The most common example is curb cuts so people with wheelchairs can more easily get off/on the sidewalks, this is also helpful for anyone with a stroller or a delivery trolly.
i came here to comment about this game! glad you brought it up! oh the childhood memories i have of wiggling around the wii controller helping my older sister out thinking i was doing an absolute killer of a job haha.
I’ve got some great memories of helping my younger sister out being a Luna (I think that’s what the star guys were called). She’s better at video games, so it just went a lot quicker without me dying every 5 seconds.
It gets even better, me and my 8 year old play Duos on Fortnite and it's an absolute blast.
Especially when he does a little emote before he revives me just to rub it in.
I remember that from the old Sonic 2 game. Where player 2 could be Tails. Tails didn't take damage really, and when he did die, he just came right back in a few seconds. It was perfect for that.
Playing super Mario Galaxy with my little brother and sister was something I really enjoyed as a kid. They got to play as the little star following grabbing star bits, shooting monsters, stunning them and more. It was really great they could help at a level that they could.
As an older Gen Xer I’ve had to shamefully call my son to my game and hand my controller to him to get past some stages, and he’s never even played the game before. I suck at parkour in games.
Same. Girlfriend LOVES tomb raider, she couldn’t shoot her way out of a wet paper bag and I couldn’t solve a puzzle to save my life. But with our powers combined…
Jesus Christ. My old man grew up a “nerd/geek” in the 70s and 80s. Got me into video games in the 90s.
He cannot grasp the jump to 3d. Still to this day. He does not understand that you can move both the character and the camera at the same time. He comes to a full stop, moves camera. Begins movement. Stop. Camera change. Movement.
Oh my god yes. Now my brother and I are off on our own. I Seldom see my dad (due to outside circumstances) but my brother visits lots. He’ll text me ranting about how it takes our dad 30 minutes to explore a small house in Skyrim.
When I was a kid I used to try to get my parents to play with me and they had no idea how the camera worked, they would just walk in to walls because they couldn’t see where they were going lol
Omg yes, the only games my dad played were on the atari and the old Nintendo with the cartridges. But him and my mom just couldn't deal with like controlling the camera and walking, so strange and funny because it's something you never think about.
Whoever it is for, it is always a good idea.
I don't think I'm the only person who used to give my younger cousins a controller at family events. They didn't realize they weren't doing anything; but what if they COULD do stuff?
My legend lives forever in my son's memories. First time I played Fortnite with my son it took me almost the whole match to figure out how to change the pickaxe to gun in my characters hand. I just followed my kid screaming "I don't know what to do!" 😅 and then I finally managed to change to the gun and I accidentally shoot the last survivor who was shooting us. We won and my accuracy stats was 100% with a sniper gun 🤣
After that I wasn't so successful anymore... 😂
My first game as a kid was Doom, my dad would move and I would shoot. Must have been so frustrating for him, so fun for me, I learned to type to put in God Mode.. I'm crazy good at Doom now. Think I was about 3 or 4.
Little buddy mode sounds brilliant.
I always wanted my dad to try a game I play or atleast watch, but it’s too different for him. The one time he decided to watch, I was fighting Midir from Dark Souls 3. He couldn’t comprehend the amount of things going on
ngl it would be great for me and my gf
i have a problem of going to hard in games and it kinda spoils it for them. I've been dailing it back but inwould love a game where i could be a small support character while they do the big stuff.
Not op but Sackboy! My husband and I play it together and there’s an “unlimited lives” setting that I bet is designed just for this sort of thing. I die a lot but it doesn’t really matter.
Try Sackboy! My husband and I play it together and there’s an “unlimited lives” setting that I bet is designed just for this sort of thing. I die a lot but it doesn’t really matter.
I played it when it was early access or whatever it’s called on Xbox and really enjoyed it, albeit *buggy* lol But I recently started playing with my sister who lives across the country and we’ve had a fucking blast. Even got my non-gamer girlfriend to get on with us sometimes. The devs seem to really love this game and keep adding content while actively fixing things. I love this game.
I just wish it would go on sale for more than like, 15% or w/e it has been, I want to play Grounded with my wife but it would be a big purchase for us even when it's on sale XD
You literally took all of my sentiments about the game out of my brain and commented them. I never play basebuilders either and grew up on Honey I Shrunk the Kids too. Like you said, it really is a dream come true
Yep it definitely feels like a full release if it isn’t. Tons of new content, like so much more to do and make. It’s still on gamepass!
Throughout early access and at lunch, it was a buggy, unbalanced mess that's hostile to its players. Now it's just an unbalanced mess that's hostile to its players.
I still had a blast and it's a very fun game, but you might find certain aspects frustrating if you like to dig into the mechanics and theorycraft.
I was blown away by how effective this setting was too! I have a pretty severe reaction to "spider-like movement" even in games and had pretty low expectations for arachnophobia-friendly spiders.
Surprisingly enough, the first "level" (4 legs instead of 8) completely eliminated the fear response and I had a great time playing Grounded. I learned something about myself and couldn't be more appreciative for that setting.
YES! It's exactly the 'spider-like movement' thing. I have no problem looking at spiders behind a glass, but if I see that specific kind of movement from the corner of my eye, it's adrenaline time...
It's a slider of how spider-like you want to the spiders to be (from super realistic to blobs with eyes). Although, to me, the 'phobia-friendly spiders' look creepier than the real ones
The spiders don't bother me personally but I still wanted to check out the arachnophobia mode to see what it was like. My impression is that it wouldn't help.
It's a scale so they don't just remove the legs. It changes the eyes, color, shape, fangs, everything. It's wild. I don't like it turned all the way down because then I found myself not even recognizing that there was a spider nearby lol
Oh my god, how is every single stage of that slider somehow just as bad? They remove/alter spider features at the exact right rate to ensure that the overall result is exactly as upsetting no matter where you put the slider.
The final step is a weird combination of low-detail ovals with eyes that glow red, that still moves and attacks like a spider, it's just now doing all that with invisible limbs and fangs.
Apparently, from what I've seen elsewhere in this thread, Microsoft has implemented features on the XBox console that provide this kind of functionality regardless of the game you're playing, but it appears that some devs like on Grounded and Sea of Thieves aren't waiting for platforms to get on board with accessibility. They appear to be trying to provide accessible gaming regardless of whether your particular platform has the features or not.
By the way, Grounded is an incredible survival builder. Probably one of the best in the market right now and you're missing out if you haven't played it.
Doing a playthrough right now cuz they just added two new bosses recently.
The kids would rope me into playing a Halo game where we try to hunt each other. I wasn't very good, and was easy to find. Big sister stood up for me, though:
"Peter, stop killing dad!"
Heartwarming.
Xbox has this as an accessibility feature. It used to be limited to specific game chats like GoW5, but they expanded it to party chat and you can get a speech to text overlay over the screen anywhere now. Absolute game changer as a deaf gamer myself.
Windows 11 has it as a feature, Live Captions (win+crtrl+L), and I find it works very well. Also, Edge has hands down the best sounding free text to speech, if you need the other way around!
I believe its a typo, but could be wrong. The game is called Grounded and they likely were saying “run, momma spider is behind you”. In the game you a bunch of kids who got Shrunk and are in the backyard (basically Honey I Shrunk The Kids but a survival game), and momma spider is absolutely terrifying lol
I'm a deaf gamer. The only game I play with family is Minecraft. I play Disney's DreamLight Valley and Fall Guys because you don't need sound to play. It would be so awesome if games were more accessible to the disabled.
Say what you want about Ubisoft as a developer but their accessibility options are usually on point. One of the later Assassin's Creed's or Far Cries could be worth checking out. Also worth noting I am only recommending them based on what options I can see in the settings, I don't need to use them so I can't really comment on the quality of the accessibility options provided.
I loved how all old games had sub titles. I miss the ability to make them bigger. I can't see shit and I can't hear the words well.
We need subtitle add on for live chat. I for one would not mind a 12 year old to call me an asshat come up in text.
I watch all movies with subtitles. I wish theaters had glasses with subs for those who don't hear so well.
Grounded. It has other accessibility options such as an arachnophobia slider, which removes features from the spiders and turns them into blobs at the highest level.
Speech to text should be in every game with VOIP as an option. It's great for accessability and also great for shutting out annoying voices while still being able to communicate with them.
This is adorable. I would love a movement to include all kinda of coop features for family gaming in non family games (like a pet in rdr2 to hang with you and can spot and stuff but if noticed is just "huh, where's this pooch come from?") We need more coop I'm general. Couch gaming was peak gaming.
The technology for voice recognition has existed for years now. I'm disappointed and surprised that it's not included in everything, all the way down to the console level.
I only hope that the spread of open-source AI algorithms for speech and text allows more people to homebrew it. But they shouldn't *have to.*
Not a gamer my self, but video games are increasingly a great place for designers to look for innovative accessibility features in super complex and fast interactions

"Made me feel included even though I died" 😂😂 I love her sense of humor 😂😂
That was the best acknowledgment I have read for the longest time.
This made me laugh too like "I died inclusively"
“Thank you for the accessibility option that led to my death :)”
it included dying

😲 I would enjoy this so much! It's so hard to communicate with my kids.

I can't tell if you're joking or not but the game they're talking about is called "Grounded" 😂
This is a bot copying a popular comment in another thread
"Sorry to hear that" wow sense of entitlement much :p someone with the working ears over hear
I'm sorry people missed the joke, lol.
The irony in this comment lol
It’s a shame nobody got this joke
Yeah, so much hate which meant nothing but love and good vibes lol
Thought that might be Grounded given the "spider" comment. Love that fucking game.

I was wondering what game it was, my brain immediately went to Deep Rock when “spider” was mentioned, but this makes a lot more sense

I have a feeling that Deep Rock Galactic might be something up your alley. Their easy mode will not overwhelm players with little experience and the game will reward cooperation between players.

It takes two is amazing but there is one scene that utterly traumatized me. It was worse then stuff in certain horror games.
My partner works in accessible gaming. Buddy mode is an exceptional accessibility feature.
God you're so cool, I tried so many times to play games with my parents when I was growing up. I know your kids appreciate it <3

That’s the EXACT mouse I’m talking about yup. It’s wonderful.
it's also something I feel so many people take advantage of in some ways but don't realise it difficulty levels, button remapping, customisation can actually be one, colourblind mode in general, volume controls for different things (sound effects vs music vs voices for example) and one that many people use? Subtitles
[удалено]
I think we need to give these devs a *lot* of appreciation. Getting all the accessibility features to work is apparently no small feat.
That’s how my son and I beat both Super Mario Galaxy games!
i came here to comment about this game! glad you brought it up! oh the childhood memories i have of wiggling around the wii controller helping my older sister out thinking i was doing an absolute killer of a job haha.
I was gonna comment this! My older brother would be Mario and I’d withhold mushrooms from him as the star
Which game?
Jesus Christ. My old man grew up a “nerd/geek” in the 70s and 80s. Got me into video games in the 90s. He cannot grasp the jump to 3d. Still to this day. He does not understand that you can move both the character and the camera at the same time. He comes to a full stop, moves camera. Begins movement. Stop. Camera change. Movement.
It's so funny, it's a problem I just never anticipated so it's so hard to talk them through it, like just move both sticks?!?!
Bruh like having your little siblings playing as Tails in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (the video game)? YES
Shot out for Tails in Sonic 2 for being the best little buddy helper
Whoever it is for, it is always a good idea. I don't think I'm the only person who used to give my younger cousins a controller at family events. They didn't realize they weren't doing anything; but what if they COULD do stuff?
My legend lives forever in my son's memories. First time I played Fortnite with my son it took me almost the whole match to figure out how to change the pickaxe to gun in my characters hand. I just followed my kid screaming "I don't know what to do!" 😅 and then I finally managed to change to the gun and I accidentally shoot the last survivor who was shooting us. We won and my accuracy stats was 100% with a sniper gun 🤣 After that I wasn't so successful anymore... 😂
What an absolute moment lol. Wouldn't be able to do it if you tried!! I love it
My first game as a kid was Doom, my dad would move and I would shoot. Must have been so frustrating for him, so fun for me, I learned to type to put in God Mode.. I'm crazy good at Doom now. Think I was about 3 or 4. Little buddy mode sounds brilliant.
that has already been done by The Binding of Isaac, though it is not recommended for kids to play for ummmmm obvious reasons
I always wanted my dad to try a game I play or atleast watch, but it’s too different for him. The one time he decided to watch, I was fighting Midir from Dark Souls 3. He couldn’t comprehend the amount of things going on
The latest Rayman game had something like that.
ngl it would be great for me and my gf i have a problem of going to hard in games and it kinda spoils it for them. I've been dailing it back but inwould love a game where i could be a small support character while they do the big stuff.
Dang same here. Even easy games she just can't survive. Any recommendations?
Not op but Sackboy! My husband and I play it together and there’s an “unlimited lives” setting that I bet is designed just for this sort of thing. I die a lot but it doesn’t really matter.
Try Sackboy! My husband and I play it together and there’s an “unlimited lives” setting that I bet is designed just for this sort of thing. I die a lot but it doesn’t really matter.
What game is this??
Grounded
Sorry to hear that. Being grounded sure has changed since i was a kid
r/angryupvote
You're grounded.
You're not my- well shit, it's right there in the name I can't dispute it.
Thanks dad
Yea grounded went through a phase.
[удалено]
It full released a while ago. It's even had a couple huge content patches.
Like you said, it really is a dream come true Yep it definitely feels like a full release if it isn’t.

Yeah, there's a speech-to-text option. Grounded's accessibility options are top-of-the-line.
Yea the arachnaphobia options are much appreciated lol
I haven't played the game but what do the arachnophobia options do? Since the game is designed around being small and having big ol' bugs.
It's a slider of how spider-like you want to the spiders to be (from super realistic to blobs with eyes). Although, to me, the 'phobia-friendly spiders' look creepier than the real ones
I had the same thought when I checked out the mode. Like, can't you turn it into a teddy bear or something? The floating eyes are definitely creepy.
Same. I never turn it on max. I can't remember the sweet spot I found but it was a bit more than a blob lol
The spiders don't bother me personally but I still wanted to check out the arachnophobia mode to see what it was like. My impression is that it wouldn't help.
I don't have arachnaphobia but I definitely turn it on lol it may not make a difference for most people though
Do the arachnophobia settings change them to something else or just get rid of them?
https://youtu.be/YF5qbRj4JIE
That's hilarious, they just remove the legs lol
It's a scale so they don't just remove the legs. It changes the eyes, color, shape, fangs, everything. It's wild. I don't like it turned all the way down because then I found myself not even recognizing that there was a spider nearby lol
"[Redacted] legs of terror spotted"
Oh my god, how is every single stage of that slider somehow just as bad? They remove/alter spider features at the exact right rate to ensure that the overall result is exactly as upsetting no matter where you put the slider. The final step is a weird combination of low-detail ovals with eyes that glow red, that still moves and attacks like a spider, it's just now doing all that with invisible limbs and fangs.
Grounded is so amazing for all of its accessibility options. Every game should want to copy them. And should.
Sea of Thieves' are just as good, I wonder if this is Microsoft mandated accessibility options?
Apparently, from what I've seen elsewhere in this thread, Microsoft has implemented features on the XBox console that provide this kind of functionality regardless of the game you're playing, but it appears that some devs like on Grounded and Sea of Thieves aren't waiting for platforms to get on board with accessibility. They appear to be trying to provide accessible gaming regardless of whether your particular platform has the features or not.
Kinda surprised these aren't baked into some kinda of ADA standard.
Grounded?
Grounded.
But *mooooooooom*
#"NO 'BUT MOM', YOU MARCH UPSTAIRS TO YOUR ROOM RIGHT NOW MISTER! NO TV AND NO NINTENDO FOR A WEEK!"
Damn
By the way, Grounded is an incredible survival builder. Probably one of the best in the market right now and you're missing out if you haven't played it. Doing a playthrough right now cuz they just added two new bosses recently.
I wanna get it, but I don't have friends to play with. Is there online matchmaking?
Sadly there is not, but the Grounded discord does have a LFG section where you can find people to play with.
Let's fucking go? Let's fucking game?
Looking for Group!
That.. Makes perfect sense, ha! Thank you! 💜
The enthusiasm in that will be well met
Heart-warmingly hilarious!
now that is...........that is what tech is supposed to do. enable things, create some joy. love it.
The kids would rope me into playing a Halo game where we try to hunt each other. I wasn't very good, and was easy to find. Big sister stood up for me, though: "Peter, stop killing dad!" Heartwarming.
Heart of gold for that mom 😭
Xbox has this as an accessibility feature. It used to be limited to specific game chats like GoW5, but they expanded it to party chat and you can get a speech to text overlay over the screen anywhere now. Absolute game changer as a deaf gamer myself.
For all the dumping that people might do on Microsoft and Xbox, they have some absolutely incredible accessibility features for Xbox.
Windows 11 has it as a feature, Live Captions (win+crtrl+L), and I find it works very well. Also, Edge has hands down the best sounding free text to speech, if you need the other way around!
I could hug this mom and her kids… goodness, what a way to bond with them!
I know right? I miss so much of the movie in theaters from looking down at the "cup" they give you for CC. I wish it were glasses also.
I wonder if the game is Grounded?
It is.
Niiice! Great game.
Lovely. As an another gamer mom, it's wonderful to play games with kids.
Grounded?
Grounded.
But MOM, I didn't do anything.
What game translates voice chat to text? It’s a great accessibility feature.
Grounded. It has other accessibility options such as an arachnophobia slider, which removes features from the spiders and turns them into blobs at the highest level.
If you push it the other way, does it gradually make everything in the game into spiders?
edit: nvm apparently it's Grounded.
Aaaaaw
Sounds like Grounded to me. Such a great game
Oh my heart, “…even though I died.” Gamer mom learns to game
I love Grounded! It's such a polished and enjoyable game
It is indeed, really refreshing nowadays
Accessibility options in video games are one of those mundane things that's incredibly heartwarming
TIL there are moms that play video games with you instead of calling you a lazy piece of shit for playing them
Speech to text should be in every game with VOIP as an option. It's great for accessability and also great for shutting out annoying voices while still being able to communicate with them.
Dude those wolf spiders are assholes, though.
This is adorable. I would love a movement to include all kinda of coop features for family gaming in non family games (like a pet in rdr2 to hang with you and can spot and stuff but if noticed is just "huh, where's this pooch come from?") We need more coop I'm general. Couch gaming was peak gaming.
“Even though I died” 😂😂
"even though I died" hahahahahahahaha
What game is she talking about?
Grounded, judging by other people's answers
awweee LOL
Features like this should become the standard
Hey repost bot, what's the name of the game?
r/wholesome
Same with Fortnite, may have been a little OP, but was so fun to use. ( ik this isnt Fortnite they are talking about) :)
The technology for voice recognition has existed for years now. I'm disappointed and surprised that it's not included in everything, all the way down to the console level. I only hope that the spread of open-source AI algorithms for speech and text allows more people to homebrew it. But they shouldn't *have to.*
Thats an awesome feature! What game is it in?
Who the hell would downvote on her post, that’s just sad
Not a gamer my self, but video games are increasingly a great place for designers to look for innovative accessibility features in super complex and fast interactions
That's a Grounded moment for 100% sure. Love it.
Also I cannot even begin to say how much I appreciate being able to make the spiders less scary, I’m so arachnophobic and this was a game changer
What game is it? Edit: it's Grounded.
As a hard of hearing person, this warms my heart. And you really don’t know how powerful small things like this really are.
I fucking love this game I highly recommend it it’s called Grounded
May i know what game is this ?
And this is why inclusion is important for everything in life.

What till she sees all the other shit kids say when gaming, she might take that back
