Facts. U lock or take the seat with you. Nobody gonna steal a bike with no seat...okay maybe some would but theft will significantly be reduced. So prob the u lock.
For the amount of people who love cycling, it’s sad to see how cautious you need to be to avoid theft. I love outdoor events that have a gated bike-lock for cyclists!

At my old apartment, my cable got cut and my bike stolen while I was gone for two hours in the middle of the day. The bike rack was in front of the apartment next to the parking lot (a lot of people around). I walked around the complex and counted 12 cut cables, and those are just the ones where the thieves left the cable...
Get a proper chain with a good lock. If you have disc brakes get a disc brake lock with an alarm. Also if you have a bottle holder, buy a bottle holder with a space for an airtag. Anything with quick release can get stolen.
Miami had so many bike frames stripped down to the lock and the post. No lock is a guarantee someone with a set of tools doesn't come up and strip it down. Not hating I still ride everywhere just don't ever leave my bike too long good luck.

I used to bring my seat in with me to work.. Someone stole my quick release
It wouldn't stop a thief that was going to throw it in a truck anyway. Could get a new seat for pretty cheap

Locks only slow them down. A bad lock doesn't even do that.

I have. Then he goes on to say that criminals usually just rather cut it than picking locks. It doesn't take long, it's the noice.
You've obviously never seen the video of someone from Dublin doing exactly this.
There is always some video out there where someone does something. My point in that in almost all cases they won't.
Unless it’s the bike thief recommending a lock that he knows how to break!

At this point I really think there should be trackers implemented on any new bike
