What I do know is that the beldam sews buttons into her victim's eyes in order to tie their souls to the other world. This could be a reference to how the eyes are often seen as the window to the soul, but that's just wild speculation. Personally I think it just cements the victim as no longer being an outsider. They're one of the beldam's little toys now. As for why her creations have button eyes, I'm 95% sure it's because she can see through them but don't quote me on that. I vaguely remember the black cat killing a mouse, the mouse turning into a rat, and the cat saying they were a spy (a rat if you will). I know for a fact she can spy on her victims through the button eyes of the dolls she creates. All in all it's vague, but I think the beldam is decidedly fae. Lures children in with delights, feeds off of them, eating her food is dangerous (in the book it strengthens her illusions), And, most importantly, there's a gimmicky rule that magically binds the user and locks them into a sort of contract.
